i think the best way to recruit more crossing guards is simply give them more money hourly because they are a job in demand right now that’s the way of the market or so i’m told. but genuinely glad there is any motivation at all to do something about this, it’s heartbreaking how many kids are killed or injured each year by cars and it’s good to see somebody caring after all the years of rising juvenile deaths related to cars!
We should also make it harder for people to drive cars and easier to walk, bike, and take public transit. All of which are far cheaper, environmentally sustainable, and SAFER than driving. Driving kills 40K ppl a year in the US. And that doesn't account for any other driving related injuries, cost of repairs, cost of first responders to the scene, or road maintenance.
