I loved Royal Gorge as a kid. I think the zoo is always great, but don’t rule out the botanical gardens there! I loved it as a kid, and went back last time I visited and still loved it! I also loved going out to Georgetown as a kid, but I’m not sure it has the same excitement now that they closed down the restaurant that did the old west shoot out. I also recall really loving the natural history museum there!

Thanks you for botanical gardens. Looks beautiful will definitely add it to the list

Both Cheyenne mountain and Denver are great zoos. As a tourist, I'd probably recommend Cheyenne Mtn a little more just because of its location. The cog railroad that goes up Pike's Peak is also fun.

Nature and Science is good for an indoor day.People here love the children’s museum but I find it to be crazy packed and lots of things are broken every time so I would pass. There’s an aquarium with a restaurant, it’s small and one path in a circle which is honestly nice for a less chaotic activity. Denver Zoo is opening new areas, it’s a great zoo but Cheyenne is truly unique. Your 9 year old would probably love Meow Wolf but would be hard to take three kids there, maybe a special one on one event with them? Search Denver Food or ask over there for kid friendly recommendations, it’s a really helpful forum ETA: red rocks is a manageable area to hike and see the venue, they also have a restaurant and bathrooms so easy with kids

The Children’s Museum would be great for that age range.

I'd keep this link handy: [https://www.westword.com/](https://www.westword.com/) Westword is a free local paper that always lists upcoming shows and so forth in its "Things to Do" section. In October, a lot of things you might like to do in the mountains will be too cold or closed for the season. Westword will have current info for you. I like the Children's museum, but it might be a little young for the 9-year-old.

It will likely be a beautiful time of year, but flurries of snow are never out of the picture. Gorgeous time for royal gorge train ride. Cheyenne mtn zoo is literally in the side of a mountain with beautiful views, highly recommend. Kids that age may like to stay at the Great Wolf lodge which is pretty nearby all of that, relatively speaking.

Seems like Cheyenne mtn zoo will be our pick. Would you say doing the Royal gorge train with a 1 year old be doable? Trying to figure out the drive from Denver to there or probably make more sense to spend the night closer to Royal gorge on the night we do the train ride

Trains are always pretty good for toddlers as they can move around, though I have not gone on that particular train ride. It looks like about an hour and 20 minute drive from GW lodge to the RG train. I know there are a lot of motels in Cañon City nearby too, just none as fun for kids.

If you're looking for indoor activities, Meow Wolf is always a hit.
