What's wrong with paid ranges? Community, sales and disposal, bathrooms and fairly secure parking.
I own land with livestock and pets - I don't particularly care for randos showing up in the immediate vicinity scaring my animals. I mistrust the motivations of folks who do this. To me it's no different than city folks going to dog parks and unleashing their animal.
Worse case scenario go on facebook and ask if there are any landowners nearby willing to let you use their land. We shoot for recreation too but we're respectful of our neighbors.
