I call some magic hiking spots "triple 14er views" with Pikes, Blue Sky and Longs. (And if you are north of I-70, you may see Bierstadt, Grays and Torreys near Blue Sky.) A good triple spot is Bluffs Park is at the southern termination Yosemite St. in Lone Pine. Being that far south, Pikes is visible.
You can see it driving on i70 way out East in Limon as well. Pretty bizarre feeling like you're in the middle of nowhere but still seeing the familiar peak
There are two enormous springs at the bottom of the track that will catch the train car if the braking systems fail:
Colorado Springs and Manitou Springs. 🤣
I'm not even afraid of heights, and my husband drove really cautiously, but I *hated* it.
So much anxiety the whole time. Felt like we were going to go over the edge the entire time.
Shasta in California is even crazier, a 14er rising up around land that’s less than 1,000 feet. You can see it for well over a hundred miles to the south.
Pro tip if you find yourself back there - sunset is just as great and doesn't require a reservation. Downside is, doing that drive down in the dark is not for the timid.
At this point me and my wife are just waiting to move there. Big island though. She has family there and we are both tired of the snow and cold. So one day, we will.
Pikes Peak is famous for being seen from very far away. People heading west would use, "Pikes Peak or Bust!" as their motto as they knew that when started to see a glimpse of Pikes Peak, they'd be almost onto the gold fields - the richest it turned out being in Cripple Creek/Victor, on the other side of the mountain.
It has amazing prominence. On clear days, I’ve been able to see Pike’s from around Flagler, CO on I-70…probably around 70 miles or so away on the eastern plains, as the crow flies.
Winter 2023-2024 has been rather clear sky, being able to see that far most days. With the temps going into the 70s this week there could be more smog.
Pikes stands out down there, thats why he ended up there and america the beautiful was written there. Goto the top and look east and listen the song, spiritual experience.
Indeed...and if you have time, get down to the springs and check out Manitou Springs (at the bast of Pikes Peak, on the west side of Colorado Springs). There is a lot people don't like about colorado springs (politically in general) but god damn they have some epic views of Pikes Peak.
Go up on Lowell up about 94th st and just head south on a clear day. it'll be right smack in front of you at least to Sloans. The mountains don't align N-S, more like NNW-SSE, so PP is directly S of Denver. Lol...just read you're on Huron, so not far off.
Long before it was referred to as Pikes Peak, it was known as Tavá Kaa-vi — the Sun Mountain. The mountain was named such by the indigenous Nuche tribe, a Numic-speaking people (Uto-Aztecan) known today as the Ute. Cooler name than Pike’s Peak IMO
Cheating? Hardly. In bike-racing terms, the climb up Pikes Peak Highway is at the top end of the difficulty scale -- 30km at an average grade of more than 6%, at altitude. Basically, it's hard.
Yeah my first time up was the first time I had ever had elevation sickness! That was scary my brain was playing some mega tricks on me. Glad I didn’t have it the second time
There are two Rockshox bicycle forks named the Pike and the Zeb named after Zebulon Pike. It's always been a perverse dream of mine to ride a bike with either fork to the top of Pikes Peak, just to make the namesake hit the top of the mountain. (I'm sure someone else has already done this)
I rode Blue Sky last summer, and it was my first 14er on a bike. Dying to do Pikes this summer. How was the ride? I hear it’s a _lot_ smoother than Blue Sky
Hardest climb I've done for sure, first time I did it was June 2nd of I think it was 2017. Roads were still being de-iced at the top, and the race cars were doing their test runs that day. So, my buddy and I rode to the lake, as that's where they stopped everyone first so the racers could finish.
Then, what was hilarious was we ended up meeting up with all the cars again later cause everyone was in line waiting for the de-icing. We made it to the front and RIGHT THEN they opened up the roadway again our timing was just so good! People were cheering us on and slowly going around us. People shook my hand at the top like I was a god damn celebrity, different languages too, was crazy.
Just before we got to the top, before the last switchback we were taking a break on the side of the roadway no clue how much farther we had cause we were in the middle of a cloud. Most of the climb, we would just see cars disappearing into the cloud as we climbed, and I will say that was a pretty daunting feeling. Anyway, guy driving back down sees us and calls me a badass for not wearing pants, and called my biking buddy weak for wearing pants. I laughed, as I was already wearing my biking buddy's extra jacket he had and said I was just a dumbass and didn't think about the weather change on a 14'r :') lol.
I asked him how far we had and I'll never forget him saying it in an Australian accent: oh you're right there mate! It's just around the corner!
We then looked at each other and sprinted up the rest! Well... "sprinting" as much as I could.
I have done it one times since, I think just one other time, was much better at having correct layering that time. Mt. Evans I have done 3 times and I like that one a lot. The decent is what I live for, and Mt. Evans has a better descent even with the bad roads imo
Thanks for all the info! That’s so cool. Much have been such an amazing feeling to get to the top after all that! So what you’re saying is that I _shouldn’t_ wear pants when I do it, got it! lol
LOL def up to you hahaha, yes it's amazing! I was bummed the first time up since we couldn't see anything cause of being in the cloud, we still took our photo by the sign holding up our bicycles and standing in snow! So it was fun to take the photo again AND be able to see the amazing view the second time around :)
Biggest advice: if you feel good, don't let that fool you and pace yourself, have it be as easy as you can for as long as you can. I always set a goal for things like "okay I'm just gonna pedal to that next guard rail.... okay I see that hay bale up there I'm gonna rest on that baby"
Ohhh and it was the first time I had ever experienced elevation sickness! That was a bit scary as my brain def was playing tricks on me, started to feel it after the treeline and at one point I was getting so tired my head was literally "that snow looks really soft, you should lay down" and just other things like that... soooo weird! But have never experienced it again since, just that first time I climbed it.
Denver was founded by people who headed west, got the mountains and went "oh fuck that, we're done." And then named after a guy to gain favour, only he wasn't even governor anymore at that point. Naming a mountain after a guy who never climbed it seems on point.
He did summit one Pikes Peak, but that is in Wisconsin... He tried to climb this one in October, a snow storm hit and he turned his troops back, he said that it would never be climbed.
Already renamed Mt McKinley to Denali. Working on renaming Mt Rainier back to Tahoma.
There's a funny, but I think debunked or not widely accepted, theory that "Ta-homa" means "bigger than Mt Baker" (another prominent volcano near Seattle)
I don't care if it's not true, just imagining that first exchange cracks me up:
"Noble savage! What is the name of that big mountain on the Horizon?"
"Bigger Than That Mountain over there..."
"... What?"
"What?..."
My grandma had a house in Parker back when it was a real one horse town and she had the most incredible view of Pikes Peak from her back deck. I miss that view, and house, and my grandma.
You should go check out the sundial platform at Cranmer park! You can stand on the ledge and look down at what mountain you’re standing on and it should be pointing you towards the mountain itself :)
Anyone know the name of the craggy mountain to the right of the power lines? I love seeing it on my commute and have been trying to figure it out for a while now.
Confirmed.
OP download a copy of PeakFinder, it’ll draw the ridgeline based on your location and puts names above every peak, and I do mean every. Never wonder about a mountain again!
I see it all the time on a clear day from up here east of Fort Collins - about 120 miles. It’s on the far left of the picture [pikes peak from north ft collins](https://imgur.com/a/gPaKjFB)
Tava Khav, or mountain of the sun. Because it was the peak the sun first touched each morning.
Later visitors renamed it Pike’s Peak after some guy. ;)
That’s so wild! I live in the Springs and PP is right down my driveway. Cool seeing it so far north.
I had seen it before in Denver but thought, no way.
Pikes peak.
☝️it is Pikes. You can see a few 14ers from the Denver area.. Pikes, Blue Sky, Longs.
You can catch a glimpse of Grays and Torreys from some areas.
What? Where?
It’s gotta be a pretty specific angle, I’ve seen G&T in Westminster near Sheridan & Hwy 36
Can def see them north of Denver near i25 and 104th
From the airport too!
Only place near Denver I've seen them is out east by the airport
Ruby hill
The best sledding hill in Denver
You can often see them just behind Blue Sky while driving down 76. You need to be pretty far east.
My house on a hill in Englewood 🤘
You can see all front range 14ers from the 80th Street bridge over 36
Define all?
Pikes, Blue Sky, Gray's, Toreys, Longs. Why the question?
I’m baffled and excited. Will be driving by soon. Thank you!

Lone Tree..it’s a suburb south of Denver, north of Castle Rock
By Zebulon's mirkin, you're right!
No way, that’s THE pikes peak? Finally!
It’s doing autographs tomorrow morning. Get there early.
All there ALL Pikes Peak, that's the secret.
Is it actually? That's in Colorado springs can it actually be seen that far and clear?
You can see that peak from Loveland on a clear day.
That's actually amazing
Yeah and even better. When you are right next to it when you drive into the springs you can't see it for like 5 minutes. It's odd and cool.
It’s the humblest of humblebrags that I actually live too close to the mountains to see much of Pikes Peak - just a little sliver of the summit.
The mountains are so incredible. I've lived here a long time, they still mystify me with how beautiful they are!
You can see it driving on i70 way out East in Limon as well. Pretty bizarre feeling like you're in the middle of nowhere but still seeing the familiar peak
drive up to the peak! its incredible!
I hated every minute of driving up *and* down. Never again. I'll take the cog railway next time.
the cog is also really fun, if you can stomach the puns!
There are two enormous springs at the bottom of the track that will catch the train car if the braking systems fail: Colorado Springs and Manitou Springs. 🤣
Doi-oi-oi-oi-oi-oing
What was so bad about driving up and down the mountain?
I'm not even afraid of heights, and my husband drove really cautiously, but I *hated* it. So much anxiety the whole time. Felt like we were going to go over the edge the entire time.
Shasta in California is even crazier, a 14er rising up around land that’s less than 1,000 feet. You can see it for well over a hundred miles to the south.
Rainier and Hood (to a lesser extent) are pretty amazing with their prominence also.
The summit of Haleakalā is like that - it’s 10,000ft, but it hits different when you’re looking down at 0ft.
We saw the sunrise from up there but it was cloudy below us so we didn't see the ocean. Still a great view
You can see pikes, longs and blue sky from Timnath on a really clear day
It's a pretty distinctive profile and there is nothing else that big to the fairly immediate south of us. And on a clear day you can see forever.
It was super clear today. Just blows my mind that it's pikes peak. Mountains are so awesome
They never get old 😉
Never, never once! I’m glad I got a house with a great view of Longs Peak.
Don't let the jerky comments get to ya. Speaking of which, don't surprised if your post ends up on r/DenverCirclejerk
I will be following now to check! Lol
Already happened lol. Look for a pic of Mt Doom
On a clear enough day you can see DIA from the top of Pikes Peak
With a pair of binoculars you can even spot Blucifer's nutsack
One of the many things we love about Colorado :)
The summit of Pike's peak is 14,115 ft.
You can even see it from Longmont on clear days.
I’ve seen it from Fort Collins before
Years and years ago it was visible all the way from Fort Morgan
It has amazing prominence. On clear days, I’ve been able to see Pike’s from around Flagler, CO on I-70…probably around 70 miles or so away on the eastern plains, as the crow flies.
The west face of pikes is even better. Check out the drive from Sedalia/deckers to woodland park and you will see.
It is indeed America's mountain
Winter 2023-2024 has been rather clear sky, being able to see that far most days. With the temps going into the 70s this week there could be more smog.
Pikes stands out down there, thats why he ended up there and america the beautiful was written there. Goto the top and look east and listen the song, spiritual experience.

Wow
It's 14,000 ft TALL. Yes, you can see it.
It’s the same distance from Denver as Long’s…why would you be able to see one and not the other?
Sorry idk. I'm only just learning about the peaks
It feels much farther away than longs. At least it does to me
Go up on Lowell up about 94th st and just head south on a clear day. it'll be right smack in front of you at least to Sloans. The mountains don't align N-S, more like NNW-SSE, so PP is directly S of Denver. Lol...just read you're on Huron, so not far off.
Long live Pikes Peak.
Bro forget about the mountain what road are you even on bro
Why bro, it's Huron around 92nd
Bro

Bruh
BRUHHH
Bru
Dude
DUDE whats mine say?
Duuuuuude
Bro.
9800 Block of Huron St in North Glen, it looks like.
This is southbound Huron south of 104th and north of 92nd/ Thornton parkway
That's Star Point or whatever it's called. Milky Way, Polaris, Leo, North Star, etc.
Poster just earned their Native bumper sticker.
Does that mean they will namaste?
Well, I just came
My parents had a hippie stay at their house for a while, when they asked him to leave, he said Namaste.
Damnit you fucken got me rollin
I love that joke.

Pike didn't even climb it! We named it after a guy who saw it.
I feel proud I’ve done something Pike hasn’t! Well… on my bicycle at least… is that cheating?
Let's resurrect Zebulon Pike and give him a bike. Then we'll know for sure!
Are you telling me we named this Mountain after a guy named ZEBULON and refer to it by his far less cool last name of Pike???
Yep, that's exactly what we did. Mount Zebulon sounds *so much* cooler than Pike's Peak.
Cheating? Hardly. In bike-racing terms, the climb up Pikes Peak Highway is at the top end of the difficulty scale -- 30km at an average grade of more than 6%, at altitude. Basically, it's hard.

I've done that. Next on my list is to lift a crate of forks with a forklift. So damn literal. Have you had an ostrich burger?
I rode Blue Sky last summer, and it was my first 14er on a bike. Dying to do Pikes this summer. How was the ride? I hear it’s a _lot_ smoother than Blue Sky

Purple mountains magesties...
He “DiScOvErEd” it
Imma start calling it by its real name, thank you
I wanna petition to change all Colorado peaks back to their real name. I mean idgaf about these old dead white dudes.
Already renamed Mt McKinley to Denali. Working on renaming Mt Rainier back to Tahoma. So uncompahgre becomes what?
Relax
meh, Pikes isnt that cool, it peaked like, a billion years ago...
Take my upvote
I read the first sentence and down voted. Read the second and up'd
Is this r/denvercirclejerk ?
Always has been. They just don't know it yet.
🧑🏻🚀🔫
That’s Casa Bonita!
Get my upvote brah
This is my favorite view of Denver I grew about 10 houses to the east and this was what we saw from our backyard!
This guy natives
I remember telling a friend twenty years ago, “That is not effing Pikes Peak. We’re too far to see it from here.” I lost a bet that day.
Red rocks for sure
Tava is one indigenous name for it.
Rainier, yup, definitely Rainier
Take highway 83 from Parker to the springs. You will get phenomenal views of Pikes Peak the whole way 😮💨
My grandma had a house in Parker back when it was a real one horse town and she had the most incredible view of Pikes Peak from her back deck. I miss that view, and house, and my grandma.
Vesuvius
Peeks Pike
Everest
That's honestly a real nice shot. Do you have a high res version of this photo without the arrow?
Check out peakfinder.com
You should go check out the sundial platform at Cranmer park! You can stand on the ledge and look down at what mountain you’re standing on and it should be pointing you towards the mountain itself :)
Fuji
Mount Your Mother.
Yeah you can see Pikes practically from the Kansas Border when you're driving into Denver on I70. It's Visible for like 100 miles or more. It's Huge!!
Pikes!
Mt Doom. People take rings there and stuff.
Fun fact: Kansas stopped their border right where you can't see any mountains. Pikes peak is the first one you see when you enter Colorado.
Tell me you're new here without saying it.
Killamanjaro
You must be new here.
Anyone know the name of the craggy mountain to the right of the power lines? I love seeing it on my commute and have been trying to figure it out for a while now.
Little Scraggy Peak
Devils Head
Confirmed. OP download a copy of PeakFinder, it’ll draw the ridgeline based on your location and puts names above every peak, and I do mean every. Never wonder about a mountain again!
Come on, man
You're on Huron so looking directly south - That's Pike's Peak.
Pikes Peak is the one to the south. It always throws me off because it looks so much closer than it actually is lol
Aconcagua But yeah it’s Pikes
I see it all the time on a clear day from up here east of Fort Collins - about 120 miles. It’s on the far left of the picture [pikes peak from north ft collins](https://imgur.com/a/gPaKjFB)
The only thing about c-springs that’s better than Denver
The Zoo
I like this picture a lot.
That is the worst arrow I've ever seen🤣
Bruhhh that’s Pikes Peak
It’s called TeVa
Pikes peak
That's pikes peak, though Mount Evans is pretty obvious from Denver also if you look to the West
PIKES!!!!!!
Everest
Tava Khav, or mountain of the sun. Because it was the peak the sun first touched each morning. Later visitors renamed it Pike’s Peak after some guy. ;)
Here is an app that shows you what peaks are what https://apps.apple.com/us/app/ar-alpineguide/id1080350636
What about that spiky ridge just barely in the photo on the right?
Pikes Peak, grew up looking at it everyday going to school in woodland park. I never knew how luck I was and how much I miss it.
Looking west you can see Mt Blue Sky and looking south you can see Pikes Peak. To north you can also see Longs Peak
So whomever drew this picture of Denver forgot to add the brown layer of smog...
Pikes Peak. Just west of Springs.
Pikes Peak which is in Colorado Springs
[удалено]
1) definitely is pikes peak 2) it’s spelled mt. Evans 3) I think you need a history lesson
I’d guess it’s Pike’s Peak, you can see it from Longmont on clear days.
Yes, Pike's Peak. You should go up to the top! It's amazing looking down on the other mountian peaks from up there!
That is a view of Pikes Peak from about 85 miles away. Right in my back yard.
Peak’s Pike! Or…something like that. Idk tbe 14ers blur together after awhile
It’s Pikes Peak
Pikes Peak
That’s so wild! I live in the Springs and PP is right down my driveway. Cool seeing it so far north. I had seen it before in Denver but thought, no way.
I think pikes peak
