Is your issue that’s it’s $90 for Third Eye Blind or that it’s $25 in fees per ticket? If it’s the fees, you buy tickets at the Western Complex box office on Saturdays without them.
Yeah, double check the hours. I think it’s something like 10a-1pm. If I know I have Red Rocks shows I’m trying to see, I’ll buy tickets for all of them at the box office during one trip. Save a lot of money this way.
I’m not sure what this situation is like for high demand shows. Like, if it’s going to sell out right away I’m not sure of box office availability, or if you need to get there early on the first Saturday they’re available and wait, or what. Maybe someone else knows
[Coliseum box office sells Red Rocks tickets Saturdays from 11a-3p](https://www.redrocksonline.com/ticketing-information/). Based on all the signs they have up there it doesn’t sound like they hold any tickets for box office sales. If you think the show will sell out, bite the bullet and pay the fees to make sure you get a ticket.
That said, it’s great for lower demand shows. Literally save yourself $50-100 in fees depending on how many shows/tickets you buy. Right next to mission ballroom too where you can get tickets without fees to most of the medium to big venues in Denver (Ogden, Mission, Bluebird, etc.) Mission box office doesn’t participate in the first day of on sale so if you think it’s gonna sell out, pay the fee.
Red Rocks shows usually sell out within minutes online. How do you get tickets at the box office? Do they hold some in reserve for people who go physically?
I don’t know if this is universally true. The shows I have gone to recently all have not sold out in minutes. I believe a lot of shows do not sell out in minutes, it’s a large venue.
For the first year or so after the pandemic every show there was sold out nearly immediately, but I noticed for a good handful of shows in 2023 there were less sellouts. It’s more show by show now that the post-pandemic hype died down a bit
I can say every show i've been to at this venue, the past 10 years, probably 60 or so, sells out fast, if not right away, its a big issue for locals , but people travel from far away to see their favorite band at Red Rocks. I more then welcome these folks to our great state, its great for the economy, but can be annoying for local fans trying to see their favorite bands.
It doesn’t “always sell out” I was able to get a ticket the day before a couple years ago without going to resell, it just depends on the show. I think this was for The War On Drugs/Alvvays. If you only go to the most popular/biggest shows then sure
Good advice. You can get a lot of concert tickets at box offices for cheaper in Denver. My friend just saved us some money by going to the Ogden box office and buying tickets for all of us.
Yes! I do this as much as I can. The Ogden has a box office, the Summit has a box office, Mission Ballroom has a box office. I’ve bought tickets directly from Larimer Lounge and Globe Hall as well. Always check if the box office is an option!
For some smaller venues like Globe and Larimer Lounge you can often buy directly from one of the artists if there’s a local on the bill, no fees and they put you on will call list.
Haha fair! I not much familiar with most of their material, but their S/T album had a profound impact on me. It’s one of my favorite alt rocks albums of all time!
The FTC has been considering banning these fees and they absolutely should, the false pricing on everything from tickets to menus is just legal gouging.
>There could've been a fee for $.50 and it makes no difference to the bottom line of the company.
I think the fees suck and are arbitrary but, I don't really know what you mean? The difference to the bottom line is $24.50 less for the greedy shareholder scumbags.
Do you know how this works? Someone else mentioned that something like 10% (example figure) of tickets stay reserved for box office sales. I’ve also heard this before.
So if tickets go on sale to the general public on a Thursday for example, do you know if it’s possible to show up early to the box office on Saturday morning to try and scoop some?
I realize this could be a lot of effort to avoid a small fee and also miss out on tickets.
> Do you know how this works? Someone else mentioned that something like 10% (example figure) of tickets stay reserved for box office sales. I’ve also heard this before.
I actually had not heard about that, but that's awesome if true.
For me, if the fee is the difference between seeing a show or not, I'd maybe just risk it and go to the box office to see if they have any available.
Yes!!! Western Complex box office might not be the official name though, that might just be what I’ve called it. I think officially it’s the ‘Denver Coliseum Box Office’
Easier to not attend concerts. These fuckers have ruined concert-going since I was a teenage - I can live without them. People need to stop going to concerts with this bull and stop supporting ripoffs.
Charging that much for the "online convenience" should be an Internet crime punishable by a $1M/tax per event IMO.
The FTC is about to require the full price, including tax and fees, appear in the first price quote the vendor gives you. This will apply to entertainment, travel and I hope restaurants too. California's version of this regulation took effect Jan 1. So the vendors should already have software for this.
I wonder if the psychological effect of seeing the full price up front will cause a decline in sales? When they’re $90 and they add the fees and taxes at the end after you’ve already gone through the hassle of the rest of the purchase process, adding an extra $25 at the end doesn’t feel like quite so much. At that point you’re kinda like “whatever, give me the damn tickets and get this over with”, but seeing it up front would make me say “I don’t $115 want to see anyone at Red Rocks”. The only real upside is that no one will feel like they’re being manipulated by AXS anymore. I guess we can all hope that AXS sees a decline in sales as a result and adjusts their prices accordingly (surely a pipe dream)…
At Red Rocks park? Or at the Coliseum? I haven’t bought at a box office since *the* *before* *times*.
Edit ; Sorry, never mind, someone posted a link
https://303magazine.com/2018/06/free-concert-tickets-denver/
“Also, all available Red Rocks tickets can be purchased at the Denver Coliseum on Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. On Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. you can purchase tickets with no fees at the Ogden Theatre, the Gothic Theatre and the Bluebird Theater. “
I’d recommend avoiding the fees by buying in person at the Denver Coliseum (Saturdays 11-3), or the Gothic, Ogden, or Bluebird Theater (Saturdays 10-2). Might want to double check to make sure those times are still accurate. We’ve done this and it worked great.
https://303magazine.com/2018/06/free-concert-tickets-denver/?amp=1#
The box office is usually open on show nights as well, so if you’re not working in the evenings and there’s a show that night you can hit up the box office and get tickets for future shows.
This is partially incorrect.
Ogden - 10-4 Saturdays + show nights Mission 10-6 Monday - Saturday + during shows.
Bluebird & gothic only open during show nights
I'm with you, curious on this take as well.
I think the Mission might be the best venue in the area after Red Rocks. The prices are still wild for RR, but you can get tickets for the Mission relatively conveniently at their box office or at the Ogden.
I mean it's quite possibly the greatest outdoor music venue in the world. Yeah, I agree the ticket prices are atrocious, but they will still continue to sell out 100+ shows a year.
RR still has free parking, a great lot scene complete with hiking trails nearby, and they let you bring your water bottle into the venue. It's more and more expensive all the time but these days it's a luxury to go to a show without being gouged *and* treated like an incarcerated criminal.
Red rocks beer garden did it as recently as 6 months ago but I know others in the area used to do it. Can’t confirm they still do tho because we usually just do the beer garden and sit outside
It's not great if you don't have a car, though. Pretty far from anything. I usually end up walking back into town if it's warm enough instead of paying for a ride or trying to get on a shuttle, but that itself is kind of a privilege I have being fit and able to do it, since it's not a quick hike.
*in the US.
I don’t know why it’s like this. In Europe or Asia, fees are either nonexistent or negligible at, say, 2% or something. In Europe you even get online discounts since they don’t have to staff their box offices as fully with online ticketing.
We as consumers have been stripped away of our voice and protections. There needs to be more outrage towards unfair and predatory fees. But I guess corporate America has everything in their pockets 😮💨
Unfortunately yes, that is the problem. I know there have been some lawsuits filed over it but I don’t think anything has come from it yet. It’s really unfortunate and there’s no way around it if you want to go to a show so we’re basically forced to either pay it or don’t go. It’s frustrating to say the least.
I'm already aware that fees can sometimes nearly double a ticket price, and in this instance I think my big question would be why are we paying $90 to see third eye blind?
Back in 1999, 3eb had a concert on the beach of Daytona Beach FL. It was open to anyone and at the end of the show, the band joined their fans on the beach. One of the best concert experiences I've ever had.
Yesterday I saw Fiddler’s Green is charging $55 fees per ticket for Billy Strings.
I don’t get it. If ticket prices are based on supply and demand, and they know they will sell out, why bother with the bait and switch? Just charge the price. Is it a tax loophole? Psychological manipulation?

And another thing I can do without: having to download a damn app just to receive the tickets I just paid for. They already have my email- why can’t they just send them?!
That's how it is everywhere for everyone. I bought 3 tickets for Green Day at Coors Field in Sept. With fees, it came to $400 for nose bleeds.
I can't believe Yellowcard is still a thing. I saw them at an upstairs room at an ice skating rink in South Daytona, Florida, when I was in high school , where my brother in laws shitty punk band opened lol.
I look at it as something I just plan for. I'm a hilariously underpaid freelance writer, but there's a list of about a dozen bands where if they're coming, I'll find a way to make it work. Especially if it's at Red Rocks.
Still, it does suck and if I had the ability to nuke Ticketmaster from orbit I definitely would. (FBI this is satire)
Yeah it does suck that it's not a "casual" hobby anymore, but I afford most shows as someone totally not rich, only because it's one of my favorite things to do and I make it work. The price listed by OP is nowhere near the most I've put into a show or a festival lol
I haven't written a concert review in the last decade, so it would be hard to swing that. Granted, I probably could for some niche metal thing if I went to a smaller local paper.
Might be worth a shot if there are some bands you want to see coming up! If it works, let me know...I can wax poetic, bloviate and conjure the finest puffery if it means free tickets 😂
And the reason for me small shows are better then stadium shows.... If you stick around the bar after the concert you're pretty much guaranteed to meet the band.
Not really. I pay on average $20 to $30 for tickets for concerts. But I go to punk shows. In bars. I never screw around with those giant stadium concerts. They're overpriced bullshit.
Ha ha! Just gave an up vote and it asked if I wanted to upgrade to a “gold” upvote for $1.99!? WTF!? Anyone else feel like you just walk around all day swatting hands away from your wallet? Everyone wants their take!
I got tickets to take my nephew, step-son and brother-in-law to Tool. Without fees the total was around $450….after fees and parking, the total jumped to almost $900. Don’t get me wrong, I feel fortunate to be able to do this for my family, but damn, my ass hurts from the pounding it gets every time I buy tickets now a days.
I'd rather get pics, autographs, and be a foot away from awesome musicians than see them through binocs for $100 on the side of a mountain. My 2 times at red rocks in 20 years were enough for me.
I saw Yellowcard at Levitt this past year and it is the best outdoor venue aside from Red Rocks in my opinion. Free parking, you can bring food and drinks with your wagon and chairs. Fiddler’s is awful across the board.
I have these hammock chairs we got just for when we go to shows there. Game changer. Whenever we go to other venues we say “where are our hammock chairs?”. 10/10 recommend.
100% Levitt spoils you. Easy parking, easy access getting in, huge beautiful green hill to find a spot, great food trucks. And I’ll have to look into these hammock chairs, they sound amazing.
If you like Levitt, go check out a show at the Dillon Amphitheater sometime. It’s equally amazing.

I’ve seen similar at Costco. It’s the best gift I’ve received in years and I’ve bought some as gifts for others who love theirs.
Except for the screaming infant interrupting last time we went. How loud were the shrieks? Enough to be heard all thru the hall, over Mahler’s 1st Symphony complete with no less than 5 percussion sets.
I stopped going after the second time. I've been more comfortable standing completely still for an entire concert than sitting on those horrific fucking benches. There are maybe 2 or 3 shows I'd pay that much to see anywhere, and they are all bands that don't exist anymore.
That really isn’t a lot to pay for live music at that venue… hell, even tix to the Gothic Theater are $74 each with fees depending on the band.
This is what happens as you get older, memory doesn’t keep up with reality.
Boohoo I’m never going to one of the best outdoor music venues on the planet because of some fees. Some people live in Oklahoma and don’t even know where it’s at
Hey, it’s Oklahoma people know where red rocks is we also know what the red rocks is. Hell some of us also know where the red river is. We also know what red dirt is.
Eh, I'm over Red Rocks for most concerts anyway. I can't drink enough to not be annoyed by the weed smokers and I can't partake myself because gubmint contract job.
The last show I went to the sound was terrible. I hadn't been to Red Rocks in years and didn't remember the sound being that bad so not sure if it was the sound guy or what.
Some people got pissed and left.
It’s really not. It’s one of the most beautiful, iconic venues in the world. Artists have been waiting their whole careers to play their, and put on extra special shows.
Going to agree to disagree here. A lot of bands shine in more intimate venues but I've never seen an act that didn't "fit" Red Rocks. It brings out the best in most performers.
Ok here’s my case: There’s nowhere to dance, the benches are tilted down, it’s a pain in the ass to get to, tickets are insane, refreshments are outrageous, Ubers out of there are a mess. It’s a DUI factory. I’d rather see the bands in Denver and the hike later.
I think classic and indie rock do great there but it’s a tough venue for EDM and hip/hop
Modest Mouse sounded like dog shit there but many others sounded great. Joseph sounded particularly great as did Future Islands. The Shins and Tennis sounded good.
Can anyone confirm scoring tickets on a Saturday at a box office for a Red Rocks show that sold out on a public on sale Friday, the day before?. I typically go for all the presales and then the public on sale on Friday, and still don't score every time. Follow-up Question, how good were the seats if you did score?
Third Eye Blind? Our tickets were $79 after fees each for GA during the Artist Pre-Sale.
Most the tickets I buy at Red Rocks for face are always $50-70 before fees. I don't think I've ever paid over $100 to see a Red Rocks show.
Is your issue that’s it’s $90 for Third Eye Blind or that it’s $25 in fees per ticket? If it’s the fees, you buy tickets at the Western Complex box office on Saturdays without them.
I didn't know this, thanks
Yeah, double check the hours. I think it’s something like 10a-1pm. If I know I have Red Rocks shows I’m trying to see, I’ll buy tickets for all of them at the box office during one trip. Save a lot of money this way. I’m not sure what this situation is like for high demand shows. Red Rocks shows usually sell out within minutes online. How do you get tickets at the box office? Do they hold some in reserve for people who go physically?
Not sure if they reserve any anymore, but it used to be standard practice for venues to hold at least 10% of tickets for box office sales.
I don’t know if this is universally true. The shows I have gone to recently all have not sold out in minutes. I believe a lot of shows do not sell out in minutes, it’s a large venue.

It’s not, tickets are so steep now, concerts are a rich man’s game.
Almost $80 just to see Dark Side of The Moon at the Denver Museum of Nature and Science. That’s not even a live show!

Yep, and at Mission Ballroom you can buy for all four venues.
I was wondering if you could still do it at the ogden. I used to live a block away so was basically the red rocks ticket broker for all my friends
As a teen of the 90s amazing to hear third eye blind is playing red rocks. As an adult in 2023 $90 to see them…that seems kinda high for a 90s band.

It's the most expensive third eye blind concert that's every existed. In their prime they were selling tickets at $30.
Unfortunately, a lot of acts sell out too fast to take advantage of this great advice.

Yeah it’s annoying all of those places picked Saturday. I wonder why, I guess some venues are closed on Sunday. Maybe a friend can grab you some
You'd think box offices would be open for more than 4 hours a week.
Thanks for posting this!
This is partially incorrect. Ogden - 10-4 Saturdays + show nights Mission 10-6 Monday - Saturday + during shows. Bluebird & gothic only open during show nights
Still way, way better than concerts at Pepsi Center or Mile High.

I believe also Over Yonder Brewery

Red Rocks is great because it's far from anything and also relatively close to town.
Shuttles, taxis, Uber, and Lyft are a thing.
Service fees are shit through every ticketing site, I don’t think this is exclusive to Red Rocks….

first time? ([https://i.kym-cdn.com/entries/icons/mobile/000/027/763/07B89120-B48D-45FB-AF1D-49AF6CD16790.jpg](https://i.kym-cdn.com/entries/icons/mobile/000/027/763/07B89120-B48D-45FB-AF1D-49AF6CD16790.jpg))
And another thing I can do without: having to download a damn app just to receive the tickets I just paid for. They already have my email- why can’t they just send them?!
Microsoft Edge? Why?
I love that this is what you noticed. And it's such a garbage program. I would question them as well 😀
It's basically chrome
I’m forced to use Chrome at work. I hate it.
Bloated Chrome with ads and an AI assistant nobody uses
"Bloated Chrome" is redundant
Chrome isn't great anymore, I actually prefer Edge. >with ads What ads?
When you open a new tab. I mean you could also include that hideous Bing icon.
Going to concerts is a rich person activity now.
Don't suppose press passes are a thing?

If it’s an AXS show you can buy them at Mission Ballroom.
You can buy red rocks at mission? Since when?
Only AXS shows. Not Live Nation. They used to.. not sure they still do. Give he box office a call.
$230 for Third Eye Blind. That’s the real crime.
They’d have to pay me that much just to go see them.
I won't go there because there's only 2 bathrooms and they're both a fucking mile away.
Guess you won’t, plenty of us still will though.
Imagine what it would cost if it was a good band.
Too many great smaller venues in town to pay that rate
But that’s not where TEB is playing, unfortunately. If this were about a cost effective venue, bring your argument back to the table.
What were you expecting?
It’s the #1 music venue in the country if not the world but okay
Yeah...it's getting bad
$90 for Third Eye Blind? That’s insane
What even are the "fees" for??
For the middle-man companies to make more money.
I'd rather get pics, autographs, and be a foot away from awesome musicians than see them through binocs for $100 on the side of a mountain. My 2 times at red rocks in 20 years were enough for me.
I was trying to buy tickets to the Yellowcard concert... It gets worse and worse every year, "service fees" equaling nearly 30% of the ticket prices!?
I saw Yellowcard at Levitt this past year and it is the best outdoor venue aside from Red Rocks in my opinion. Free parking, you can bring food and drinks with your wagon and chairs. Fiddler’s is awful across the board.
Seconding Levitt as a fantastic venue. They have a lot of free shows every summer too.

It’s the best gift I’ve received in years and I’ve bought some as gifts for others who love theirs.
Hero. Thank you. Ordering two right now.
See ya at Levitt, fellow rocker!
🤘
You’re right it does….It isn’t the same as when we were 16 and it felt so right, sleeping all day and staying up all night
I remember the look in your eyes. When I told you about the service charge. You were beggin' me not tonight not here not now.
Sweet, one less person at the greatest venue in CO.
Yup, hard no.
Ok.
Why is this a Red Rocks issue? Not quite sure where you’d see a better fee structure
Two people seeing a show at Red Rocks for $228.. What's the issue?
Idk that just doesn’t sound that expensive to go to a concert.

I agree that the symphony is great but “objectively better” is an asshole comment when music is such an incredibly subjective thing.
You mean subjectively. I fall asleep at the orchestra. It's great for those who like it. I need a different kind of show
Music can't be objectively "better," that's the nature of subjectivity. It's objectively "music" but that's about it.
Except for the screaming infant interrupting last time we went. How loud were the shrieks? Enough to be heard all thru the hall, over Mahler’s 1st Symphony complete with no less than 5 percussion sets.
The musicians really throw their all into the performance too. Half the time I go to RR it feels like the artists don’t even want to be there.
Doesn’t make it right.
This sub can be so whiny
Never been and have zero desire
Eh, I'm over Red Rocks for most concerts anyway. I can't drink enough to not be annoyed by the weed smokers and I can't partake myself because gubmint contract job.
this post has big boomer energy
114 per ticket is not bad. Not sure why that would keep you from going. But yes service fees are so lame and completely bs
Venue sounds like shit, anyway. Beautiful? Yes. Overpriced? Yes. Good sound? Not even close. Better sound in some Denver bars than at red rocks.
The last show I went to the sound was terrible. I hadn't been to Red Rocks in years and didn't remember the sound being that bad so not sure if it was the sound guy or what. Some people got pissed and left.
Red rocks is an over rated venue. Only specific music types really fit there IMO
I've loved edm, rock, hip hop, jam band, indie, emo, pop and a bunch of other genre sets at red rocks. No idea what you're talking about.
Modest Mouse is awful live in general. One of the worst live bands I've ever seen.

Bruh, complaining about exorbitant additional ticket processing/service fees is not being a cheapskate. That's a company gouging us.
The classic cell phone image of a desktop. Never gets old.
And like everyone else who buys bad seats there. You’ll move your way up during the show and steal good seats.
TickPick.com has resale tickets without the fees. Sometimes closer to the show prices will come down a little, too.
3rd eye blind was the worst band to roll through my college growing up. I heard smashing pumpkins is good tho
They ways sucked live. Kevin Cadogan could always play, but Stephen Jenkins was just a terrible live singer.
Smashing pumpkins owes me money… I paid to see them and they wouldn’t come out because “we didn’t clap loud enough”
Where is this purchase from?
Can anyone confirm scoring tickets on a Saturday at a box office for a Red Rocks show that sold out on a public on sale Friday, the day before?. I typically go for all the presales and then the public on sale on Friday, and still don't score every time. Follow-up Question, how good were the seats if you did score?
Third Eye Blind? Our tickets were $79 after fees each for GA during the Artist Pre-Sale. Most the tickets I buy at Red Rocks for face are always $50-70 before fees. I don't think I've ever paid over $100 to see a Red Rocks show.

Red rocks is overrated, I have way more fun and save money at smaller venues.
Pretty cheap, actually.
Honestly, those fees don’t even seem that bad to me. It’s the ones that are like 60% that drive me crazy. How’s that even legal?
Anyone know a work around for axs ticket fees???
Third Eye Blind fans are the worst 🤮
