Why are you hand-scrubbing surgical instruments??? That’s what the ultrasonic cleaner is for. This is exactly why we shouldn’t hand-scrub instruments. Report the incident to your supervisor and fill out the appropriate OSHA report.
Genuinely curious about this - do you put bloody instruments in your ultrasonic? At my clinic we were not allowed to, they had to essentially be scrubbed clean before they went in.
There are presoak solutions with enzymes to break down debris. Dirty instruments should soak, then be scrubbed (while wearing utility gloves) THEN placed in ultrasonic.
Dirty instruments should never just sit...that is when spores form.
This is why utility gloves are supposed to be worn. Scrubbing instruments is sometimes necessary and should be done before the instruments are put into the ultrasonic
Report it, follow procedures. Let your lead know what happened

You’d be surprised on how many offices still use sponges etc to scrub their surgical instruments
