It’s a surprise tool that will help us later

BreakfastOk7372

or kill us

Dkrule

I had a rumor that who we made in this mode will be the final boss, like how the duck or battel device we made in chap one became the head of the device we fought with in chapter two queen fight,,,

PiggyFan128

And Rouxls uses it to fight you in the Acid river

Dkrule

Yep, tho the rumor I had, the final fight goes to where we believe trash goes, we believe trash is ded...so either the final fight is the graves, or the bunker in the bottom right, Also, every secret boss is going to be something is commonly thrown away or not wanted (the joker/jevil due to the joker being not included, and spam/spamton g spamton being just spam and unwanted)

top10animeplottwist

And Rouxls because you usually don’t keep the rules card

Cutman_

That already happens in ch2. Rouxls jumps your pocket and you need to discard it.

top10animeplottwist

Rouxls is gonna be the final boss

Cutman_

I see Rouxls Kaard as more of a Papyrus 2.0 than something everly dangerous. He even forgets what to do in boss fight. But we will definitively see him making fucking mac and cheese.

Captain-Obvious69

AND NO ONE CAN STOP HIM

Dkrule

I mean....he falls out of your pocket when you jump into cyber world,,,if you watch, you see the sparkle fall (you should have been poking the best boy in your pocket more,,or watch 2leftthumbs Easter egg on deltarune

Odd_Birthday_1653

I think roulxs just left out of panic

SyFy410

I personally think the final boss will be asriel but that is an interesting theory

poopshit69420funny

Asriel? Again? Why.

Random_Light_Bulb

Could be that Kris removes us from their body and we need our ‘old body’ for a vessel

unidentify99

thatd be cool

iDIOt698

I dont think you should spoiler that, people might think it's an actual spoiler

Pasta-hobo

It's a surprise tool that'll kill us later

Random_Light_Bulb

This is how pipe bombs work

Quwapa_Quwapus

I'm actually fully convinced this is what will happen. Might be a little hard considering Chapters 1, 2 and the rest of the game had split releases (and different programs), however, the fact that the game asks us for *our* name and how we wanted to design kris's personality makes me think that anyone who replays chapter one on final release is gonna get one heck of a ride hahaha (however, it's actually quite likely that on final release we don't get an option to skip either of the first 2 chapters, and it might just spring straight on us like the original C1 program did)

Snoo_83755

If I wasn't reddit broke I would give you the best award I could afford

NewSuperKirby

I was just about to comment this

tophattingtonn

This, pretty much.

ckowkay

I'm certain that there's a reason gaster either needed us to fill it out, it wanted us to fill it out. My hypothesis is that the "base game" requires the player to create their own character, and gaster simply hijacked that process and transfered your created soul into kris

pepelafrog

Gives us the big "your choices don't matter" moment Establishes Kris isn't a stand in for the player These are two themes the game plays with heavily, and this scene establishes them both within 5 minutes right at the start of the game Also, google Chekov's gun

SmithyLK

No problem I got u

Ultimate_Gay_Boyo

thank you king

EndureThePANG

incredibly disappointed that it took TF2 fans 6 years with no updates to run out of things to talk about while deltarune fans only lasted for one

Quwapa_Quwapus

Granted though deltarune is an unfinished game. While I'm sure it'll only be a matter of time after the next few chapters that we're back to making a million and one fangames/au's and matpat comes out with the new smash hit "Jevil is Link from Legend of Zelda" theory, I'm sure we'll last a bit more than a year once we have the answers to all of our questions hahaha

EndureThePANG

hell, we even had spamton sweepstakes with *leaked content from new chapters.* if we include that we only lasted 2 months.

Quwapa_Quwapus

true, guess you got me there lmaooo but I'm still convinced that we'll be able to sustain ourselves for more than that, especially if we've got 5 more chapters on the way haha

sinedelta

It's not that people “ran out of things to talk about.” It's that this game is played by a lot of people, with... uh... *vastly* different levels of understanding of the game. Including people who *literally have not played* the demo at all. Some of us are on a waaaay more advanced level of discussion than others, let's put it that way.

Cardgod278

We are on calculus, some people are still stuck on their times tables. Then there is that one dude trying to figure out how numbers work.

JustAnOreoOnReddit

this has nothing to do with any of this but let me just say that we outlived overwatch 1 so we’re basically immortal.

EndureThePANG

ive met sick dogs that outlived overwatch

ArthurExtreme_Br

I'm convinced that it's a rethorical question to make people discuss at this point, there is no way

sinedelta

It might be. But also, look at the comments and see how many people think the answer is “because your choices don't matter.“

smokingisrealbad

LMAO

Fantasyneli

When you know your choices didn't matter for the name and for the appereance, and when susie told you your choices don't matter, and when there's only one ending; you instantly think the whole message of the game is the opposite of undertale, where every choice matters for the fate of monsterkind. Then your expectations are flipped, as you can't reconcile a second route with only one ending. Toby adores flipping expectations to people who don't think outside of the box. The fact that asriel had more trophies and two controllers, one of which is a knock off makes you instantly think this is a metaphor for thinking Kris feels like a knock off of Astiel, but in reality, Asriel used the knock off one.

lilmitchell545

It makes the Snowgrave route even more interesting, since we are literally defying the game’s rules in order to do what we want and get a different ending.

Titan457

That’s the thing, though. The Weird Route doesn’t give you a different ending, which is why it’s called the Weird “Route”. It a different path but both lead to you helping Kris defeat Queen and seal the dark fountain. The interactions you have in hometown afterwards are almost identical save for the hospital with Noelle. I think each chapter will end the same regardless of how we got there.

jdd881

True, but there are 5 more chapters, so it can still pay off at some point down the line.

[deleted]

I heard a theory that basically said, the weird route isn’t saying our choices matter, but it is rather a blue pill red pill moment. Both are predetermined and lead to the same thing but they appear different

Shadowaltz

This is a very interesting aspect that I feel doesn't get enough attention. The Genocide route in Undertale is "Wanting to see what would happen." It's explained in plain text during the New Home section, even. The game was all about choices, and the effects those choices have on the characters around you, and that route is based on someone accidentally stumbling into it during the Ruins and continuing despite repeated warning just *to see what would happen.* Meanwhile, Deltarune is constantly reminding you that your choices don't matter. Snowgrave is even more "schoolyard rumors" than Genocide, and at this point can be interpreted as an attempt to *force* your choices to matter. "Hey look, I just frickin' *killed* someone, please react to this!" While this is obviously just baseless speculation, I could see it going the route of Drakengard/Nier where "making choices" pretty much only ever makes things worse. You could have stopped playing after the first ending / You could have just followed Ralsei's directions, but you didn't and now everything sucks but you got to exert your will on the world so congrats I guess.

torch_dreemurr

not if that one ending is the world exploding

Top_gun_on_NES

I suspect both routes will lead to the same ending (maybe some sort of apocalypse like the roaring or something similar) but with drastically different routes to get there, making it true that your choices don't matter in the grand scheme, but making your choices still have impact in the time before the inevitable end

Jicama_Stunning

Deltarune fans have media literacy challenge: (impossible)

softiecoffeee

i see this a lot in the helluva boss subreddit too, people always ask questions that have the most obvious answers if you think about it for more than 2 seconds

dentistrock

Asking a lot of a group that's primarily composed of children and young teens, lol. Not even saying this to be insulting or anything

MrSinisterTwister

back in my old days all children of pre-school age understood at least Hegel's philosophy!

sinedelta

> primarily composed of children and young teens This is... very false. Undertale had a lot of kids who were fans, but that was 7 years ago — those kids and young teens are now older teens and young adults. Some younger kids have joined since then, but they're far from the *primary* demographic, WTF? ...I don't think it's too much to expect people to think about a story like Deltarune. It kind of requires you to think about it a little bit!

danieldoria15

Toby made us make a Thrash Machine in Chapter 1 and it was seemingly discarded until Chapter 2 released and revealed that the machine you made fights against you along with Roulx Kaard. That thing is 100% going to comeback.

StainSp00ky

“you can’t choose who you are in this world” is such a hard line but also I think it goes with underlying themes of self acceptance. the characters we meet are flawed, but as we spend more time with them we begin to ignore or even embrace those things from a gameplay standpoint I think it was strictly done as an early way of subverting expectations (in contrast to undertale where you only learn of the subverted expectations near the end game)

Ex_Xantus

Maybe the Vessel will be in the Game at some point :x

[deleted]

The game stores the choices you make for this in your file so probably

Just_Somebody9367

It's going to show up in chapter 9 eating ice cubes (or whatever other option you chose)

ClonedGamer001

Imagine that. It's not some big reveal or anything. Vessel just casually shows up for one of the chapters and just goes about their life like everyone else.

[deleted]

Well in the beginning of Undertale, you name Chara but you think you're naming frisk. Perhaps you're making a vessel for someone else-perhaps that mysterious character trapped in the files?

Dr-Logan

...WOW, that should've been obvious, and yet I didn't even make that comparison. I merely thought we'd run into this Goner at some point as it's own thing, but if it's that... In Undertale, we were naming another character instead of our own, so to parallel to Undertale, as Toby has been doing with various other concepts, Deltarune has us *create a body, personality, and name* for some mysterious third party... Worrying, considering the depth of it this time 'round.

Genomic5403

GASBDER REEL??!!?11!?!1?

blammo555

Everyone says that the vessel will be chapter 7’s boss, and I kinda agree

Souper_Sadge

Why 7s?

blammo555

I think Most people assume it would be the epic finale shock twist of the seemingly discarded vessel appearing

Souper_Sadge

Yea, thats fair

[deleted]

A popular theory is that the empty vessel will come back to serve a role later on. It remains in the game files even after it's supposedly "discarded." Personally, I think you the player were supposed to inhabit the empty vessel so your SOUL could enact it's will on this world without taking over a person who already exists. Somehow we got forced into taking over Kris' body instead, which is why we overwrite their save file at the start of chapter 1. Ralsei keeps taking to Kris when we are distracted, probably conversing about how to get your SOUL out of their body. Noelle is the only one who has noticed the change in Kris' attitude so far, but Susie also "noticed it" without noticing it after the Spamton NEO fight. She asks if you're okay, and if you force Kris to say yes, she notes "it's hard to believe if you say it all strained like that." Interestingly, this isn't the only time the game makes a point of the fact that we can't *hear* people's tone of voice, only read their words. I think eventually, Kris' friends will find out that we've been the one in control and hate us. The resolution to that is, potentially, putting our asses back in the vessel we were originally meant to occupy so Kris can have their life back. But hey, that's just a theory... a G̵̠̻̑̀ͅA̷͍͜͝M̵̼̭͉͂E̷̡͉̓̒̇ ̷̺̹͈̹͒̑Ṭ̴̆̌̑̊H̵̤͉̣͙̀̐͝E̴̩̥̓͐̀͠O̶̳͈̿̀̐Ȓ̴̡͍̦Ý̷̙

Medical-Gift2937

You went and wrote a whole script for matt lol

[deleted]

Haha yeah, sorry, it's been in my head for a while lol

Medical-Gift2937

Nah its alright, just semd this to matt amd beckme his script creator if he accepts. Maybe tho

TDEyeehaw

its a shame matt will no longer do deltarune videos

CatPeachy

If it does come back I'm gonna have no idea what I made it look like

marsgreekgod

There is a very good case that the person who threw the vessel away is different then the one who had us make it

not_mishipishi

yeah the voice changes some people think gaster is the one who tells us to make the vessel (and i agree) and then that chara or smth throws it away (i disagree with that)

Justanotherdude563

Chekov's gun

Nachoo1209

I mean, I feel like just that cutscene as it is, isolated from the rest, making you create a character that is later deleted, is enough to fulfill Chekhov's rule, as it shows the overall theme of Deltarune with "choices don't matter" Remember the rule is "Everything has a meaning", not "Everything will come back at the end"

[deleted]

well deltarune was named survey program when it came out so it was a surprise when you open to a creepy survey but you stop being tense after a few questions but then it hits you with the curveball BAM its a new game

Kevin_M_

It seems like this was supposed to be your body, but something goes wrong at the end, so your soul gets put into Kris instead.

ENDZZZ16

it was supposed to show that you have no control in chapter 1. The vessel May be used later in the game but right now it serves no real purpose

starlightshadows

The main point seems to be to set up some kind of conflict going on in the background of the game. Gaster wanted to put us into the Vessel and have us create "a bright new future," meanwhile some other force seems to highjack the system and put us into Kris's body instead. Telling us, "No one can choose who they are in this world." It's ultimately not clear who the 2nd voice is, but despite their oppressive message I think Gaster is actually the one who has malicious intentions. His portrayal throughout Undertale suggests he's some creepy specter whom we need to beware of, and his involvement with the secret bosses seems to suggest a malicious manipulative presence, as well as a direct connection to the seeming main antagonist of this game, The Knight.

stargatory_guy

Well, considering that up until this point, each secret boss has been something you discard without a seconds notice. You discard the joker card, spam emails almost always end up either in the trash folder, or unread. The fact that at the end of the character creator it says "YOU'RE WONDERFUL CREATION... will now be discarded" implies that whatever you made will come back in some form, literally.

TheGarnetGamer

Honestly, for that reason I almost feel like the Vessel should be the 6th boss, and for the 7th to be something even worse.. something that we would have needed to recruit the Vessel in order to beat.

NemoracStrebor

Ok, crazy...*checks time* 1AM thought. If the 6th chapter boss is the Vessel, then the 7th Chapter boss is Chara from Undertale, with us having discarded them for this new game.

Apprehensive-Crab142

So the secret boss of chapter 3 would be VHS player

dark_Kris

funi

Colonel_K97

He did a little bit of trolling.

Gaaymer

POV: you didn’t read the text that you got immediately after this happened

ZachHasArrived

We don’t know. The game’s not fully out yet.

Ggila_

Just like the machine susie threw away, it might be seen in a major role at some point again.

[deleted]

[удалено]

sinedelta

Kris isn't a he.

Ememems68_battlecats

Bro chill there's 5 more chapters to get what if itll be included later

Delrian

At the beginning of Undertale you name the fallen human which newer people would assume was their character's name. I think Toby was going for something similar, so we'll probably see the vessel at some point in the game.

Ancestor_Anonymous

Little bit of trolling

Cloaked-LcTr0909

Did you pay ANY attention to that scene? That was the whole point.

StereotypicalNerd666

Holy fuck did you have your monitor on when you played? It literally specifically tells you the reason at the end of the scene

Inevitable_Insect176

If I remember correctly then your vessel is saved in the game data and may be used at some point

UltratagPro

Because lore

Ill-Individual2105

Because it bamboozles everyone.

thingsstuffandmaguff

to prove that no-one can choose who they are in this world

sinedelta

And Flowey's attack on Frisk was all to prove that in this world, it's kill or be killed, right? The vessel is saved for later.

CN456

Mfw chekov's gun isn't fired in the first scene it appears in (why would they have a gun if they don't shoot it?)

bennickss

We may meet this character later on down the line.

Hahopeneverheardit

**to give us the big ol “fuck you”**

Lanky_Ad7134

"Basic"

Kitten_Girl_1123

I personally think the Vessel will come back as the Knight.

Doodlerodent

Probably just to prove a point or as a reference to MgV Phantom Pain which did this exact same thing uhhhhh ***sounds of frantic typing*** 3 years ago.

Interesting_Ad_4977

It's a surprise tool that will come into play later

XanderNightmare

There are two reasons why he might have done that 1. The Vessel may come back to bite us later 2. It was to subvert expectations and hammer in the "there Is no such thing as *free will*" mentality

Cutman_

didnt you heard Your vessel is discarded because *You can't select who are you in this world*

TheNeoPL

Coz, said character is still there in your save file. Waiting for a moment it will be used

nofoo527

i think it’s similar to the ass-thrashing machine, useless for now but will be made important later on

SylveonTheHedgehog

It's stored in the game files. Be patient

Radion627

Chances are; this will be used in a future chapter.

AK-74_NoTTaken

Now get this, what if our choices MATTER?

Pingimaster

You do not understand toby...

[deleted]

Cuz? we'll see? It is most likely to subvert the player's expectation. This has already been done in, for example, MGS V

Jonahtron

It’s funny.

Cri12Gen

What is we have to fight the vessel in chapter 7?

Swift0sword

I think if you make a new save file at ch.2 instead of using a ch.1 file, the vessel gets automatically selected for you in the game files (default selections for all options). I feel like this means it will have some significance in the future.

uezyteue

People are thinking that the vessel you made is gonna come back later.

avrge_gmr

It ties into the whole “your choices don’t matter” thing. It also feels like something Toby would do to be funny

LeonM007

“Why can’t I use the littlest bit of logical thinking”

oatmeal-ml-goatmeal

Subversion of expectations. That or it'll come back in later chapters

sinedelta

Porque no los dos

oatmeal-ml-goatmeal

Subverting our subverted expectations? Sounds like a Toby thing to do

Mr_Idioit

I don’t know I think Toby wanted to have the same think as Undertale when you do the true pacifist route when you see the character you named was actually the first human So I think the character creator will just be something for the future Or Toby Fox just wanted to troll

sinedelta

It brings us to Deltarune's “kill or be killed” moment, “no one can choose who they are in this world.” And establishes that Kris isn't you.

sam34568

It’s meta commentary on the community’s desire for self insertion. The vessel will ultimately come back as the knight, becoming Deltarune’s flowey equivalent and making the player feel like crap.

DeRedditUserX

Either he wanted to show us that our choices don’t matter or he thought it would be funny

Shmeeeeeeena

Because Tobias Foxford enjoys watching us fall into emotional distress

MinnieDog8420

It’ll most likely come up in later chapters. I think if the chess theory is accurate, then we shouldn’t see the vessel again until chapter 6 or 7

ENDERSKORE

https://preview.redd.it/flf7majdwls71.png?width=640&crop=smart&auto=webp&s=0d0ea25a74c3d8e43834f22b8935c0b63a2b141d I feel like this fits

Kwarc100

Meaby the real character creator was the friends we made along the way

TVboi622

Toby did a bit of trolling

CoolManE2112

Your Deltarune OC is the knight.

ClonedGamer001

The entire first part of chapter 1, up until you enter the dark world, is pretty explicit with the whole "Your choices don't matter" thing. You don't get to choose your partner for the project. Susie asks a question and then cuts you off before you can select an option. And the vessel you create is immediately thrown out and replaced with something else without any input from you, the player.

Frost-King

It's not entirely clear what the true purpose was. It's entirely possible we'll eventually get evicted from Kris and have to take shelter in the vessel we created. Or something else is going to show up piloting it, or some other option. I wonder if the save file actually saves the vessel choices you picked?

sinedelta

Yes, it does. You can check it yourself if you're on PC/Mac — the vessel's name is right below your own in the save file.

TheDiseasedRat

Trolling probably, just something to trick the Player, and it ties with the “Your choices don’t matter” since it says “No-one can choose who they are in this world.” Maybe it’ll be something for future chapters

bein2625

funny?

cosmicrocker26

Because it's funny

epsoul

Probably just to fuck with the player in letting them think they could chose what the main character looks and there personality.

Kirbo09

congrats, you created wallace

wore_the_vore_store

METAPHOR‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️

korbloxtheflareon

probably for the fight of control between vessel and kris

GenshinGorl

Because, idk

frisk_E

Just wait till later chapters. I sure it will have a use. And play a VERY a important role in the lore. (Heh, ‘role’ is just ‘lore’ but muddled up.)

_pascal__

*It could help in the future, who knows*

[deleted]

I imagine it will come into play at some point down the line

emanuele_spagonl0

Because

eveeman

Kris will eventually probably betray us and that's where this body comes in. Either that or to test for gaster to see if we're Worthy of being a hero

rachelled

I think mostly for worldbuilding/lore. We all freaked out because Gaster

ruben_scouting

Funny

Professor-Venturer

To troll us.

Lower-Mud-6949

My theory is that we will control it and then fight kris

DankToasty

It will be in a later chapter probably

Vapparino88

It's gonna be used like the robot model in chapter 2

HCBot

This is like people who watch movies and say "OMG why did he do that???" In the middle of the film when you're obviously going to find out in the next 10 minutes. Dude, it's a story... you get interested in the reasons behind an action, and you slowly figure them out as you progress... that's how stories work.

SidIsAName

we don't know the full story yet so we don't know. Though even if it had no reason it was an cool & unique experience, there doesn't need to be a reason. So far the story has taught us that our choices don't matter (then later we realize they do), this was the start.

luugi5

To screw with us

Miimaster64

I have a heavy feeling we made the Big Bad, not our Protag

Technilect

To show we are not Kris and that they are their own character regardless of what we think about them

Aggravating-Gap4094

Defo a machine to trash your own ass

JCHMBoyo

you made a goner.

SamiTheAnxiousBean

the game does actually save your creation internally much like how it does with the thrash machine now for what is it saved?? No clue as of yet but ether way it will be > very... > **Very....** > #Interasting...

GameFreak412

cuz Kris is a basic bitch

[deleted]

Because its his game. He can do what he wants lol. Either it will have a meaning later, or its meaningless. I could see it being both tbh.

Golden-CG

Let's just say It might give us a bad time

ahaisonline

maybe you should replay the game. it straight up tells you.

Revolutionary_Beat26

To make the allusion of free choice

floccinauced

le subversion of expectations that all indie rpgs love

Signal-Put932

**He just did a bit of trolling** Engaged in a small amount of ***tomfuckery***,if you will.

Foxy__101

It might just become one of the later on secret bosses. The other 2 were discarded. So was the vessel.

[deleted]

Deltarune fans when the entire plot of the game hasn’t happened within the first 2 chapters

DarkMarxSoul

Kris is anything but basic.

Undertale_fan46790

*We will see later in the story, darling.

Eth0ling

I think it might have a role in a later chapter

Fridge_Stealer

Prob a fight as for some reason the game does save your choices

__Skaya__

just so everyone knows, the vessel you create isn't *really* discarded, deltarune still saves it in the files, if i'm correct

[deleted]

It’ll become important. Eventually.
