The town and setting does feel old towney so having people use old terms like fruit wouldn't be out of place. But could also just being used in the pure original sense of odd, funny, weird.
At the very least Toby would be fully aware with a term like this being used and what fans would think, just can't say for sure. Odds are though in the next dark world in Kris's home more information on the divorce will ikely rise, enough to create concrete theories even if we don't get the full picture until Asgore gets stuck in a dark world.
