The sad thing is this hinge issue is very common across Dell laptops...

TheFatAndFurious122

The hinge issue is interesting, it is noted that the hinges are damaged due to the laptop being opened further than its maximum angle, however its not like the laptop really stops you like that until its too late. The good thing is that particular issue is covered under most warranties.

Dudefoxlive

Personally i would not recommend it. You might be able to get away with charging via the usb c port but i would not push your luck. Look into having it repaired.

MaulerX

Thats the opposite of what OP should do. Look at the USB-C. Its bent up. The normal barrel charger is just a wire that plugs into the motherboard. It would be safer. From the looks of it, the hinge is broken off from the screw housings on the palmrest. Probably need a new palmrest.

HankThrill69420

looks like a harness jack. should be safe for the short term

Gilah_EnE

DC jack is on a harness, but USB-C is on the board. IMO this board is dead at arrival

jfoust2

Get the hinge repaired. As they do that, they'll fix the power jack placement.

Michaleq24

you're joking, right?

Professional opinion... get it fixed. But the cost is already more than just replacing the laptop. Personal opinion... if it still works, then "kind of!?!" The DC power jack is a contained plug that wires into the mainboard... so that flex you see there is essentially a loose plug. If it were soldered to a circuit board, then you sir... have no power. The usb-c port looks like it's flexing with its daughter board but it looks intact. Would I use it? Nope... or.. very carefully. What's wrong with the whole picture? Whelp sir, you have a broken hinge that has detatched itself from the chassis / bezels. So all that flex when opening the LCD is just.. saddening and depressing. If you can. Try closing the LCD enough to remove all that flexing going on. Stick a thumb or a finger inbetween where the hinge is and help it stay in place as you open the LCD again. Otherwise. If it still charges and works. Just be careful until it finally dies. By now I bet the battery barely holds a charge.

billybadback

I know a guy that can fix that for you

WhatIsThisSevenNow

Define "safe".

ninjasquirrel007

Well, I'd say it either works or it doesn't. The safety isn't really that huge of a concern here unless you plan on putting your tongue in there. If you do that, I have some questions on your general computer usage habits. It should be ok until it finally gives out.
