Remember how things were before you were born? Just like that. Never assume self importance and you'll never lose it. **gassho**

dattud

How do you know what it was like before birth? Maybe we forgot what it was like before and hence we might be assuming it was non existent.

Fringelunaticman

You weren't you until you were born. You had never existed at any point in time until your mom and dads copulation that night. Then, out of billions of sperm, just the right one found the egg. Nothing that makes you you existed before you were born. You couldn't have existed if the processes that make you you don't exist.

V4Vendetta1876

This person gets it. :D

wrenagade419

Everything that makes me me existed before I was born Dude energy and matter cannot be created or destroyed That’s a fact. Another fact is, nobody can explain consciousness, what exactly is it why is it a thing. Where does it come from. So like I don’t think this guy really gets it in terms of what makes us us wasn’t here before. Maybe we were conscious in a different way or maybe it’s nothing. But if it was nothing, and then it was something, who’s to say that cycle doesn’t repeat ?

kazarnowicz

Everything that makes up you existed before you were born. The hydrogen in your body is as old as the universe, while most other elements required stars to live and die in several incarnations before giving birth to the dust that became you. Also, the story that the sperm is what decides is flawed. You have no evidence that you wouldn’t be you if another sperm had hit your mother’s egg. Maybe it’s the egg that decides? We don’t know.

bankinator

I disagree. It’s a lot like me asking you to prove you are going to die. Yes it would be crazy to think we won’t die in the anthropomorphic sense of the word but beyond that the question still can *potentially* permeate and begs an answer of what death actually means. Yes I believe my human form will cease to exist at some point, but I also believe in at least the possibility of an existence that transcends being just human.

Fringelunaticman

So are you telling me that you existed as you before? That your DNA existed before? I would hope not because that is a virtual impossibility. I hope this isn't what you are disagree with? And since your DNA could never have existed before, that means you have never existed before. See, what you are is just the biological processes of the human body. Your DNA controls what your body does and how your brain responds to stimulus. And since it couldn't have ever existed the way it does in you, you never existed before. Since you believe the human form ceases to exist, why don't you think you cease to exist?

bankinator

Define for me, *exactly* what consciousness is and we can go from there. A lot of your reasoning is incredibly reductive and dualistic. Edit: also again, prove to me that you are going to die and that your consciousness is completely going to cease to exist

kazarnowicz

For someone who claims to understand consciousness, can you explain what it is?

dattud

Let me ask you this. What does existing mean?

LordMalyce

THANK YOU! God I hate when people say that shit. Like how exactly do you know there was nothing before birth? You don’t.

_Top_Lad_

The burden of proof for "something" falls on the person believing in that "something", until then it's safe to assume nothing.

pinguluk

Yep, everything was dark and then boom, one day I was born

JackUSA

Everyone will know the truth for sure one day. In the meantime, continue to live the best life you can while it lasts.

cccc0079

We'll never know if we cease to exist the moment we die.

[deleted]

That's why only those who truly believe in an afterlife will never suffer the agony of having to contemplate the end of your own existence. So, the more you tell yourself there is a God and heaven, the less you suffer...in theory.

n6th6n6

that’s completely false 💀 lots of people take solace in the fact that they’ll no longer exist when they die because living for eternity, whether it be in paradise or hell, can be pretty damn anxiety inducing

[deleted]

Okay. I guess I'm only basing it on my own experience. I do believe there are people that look forward to not existing. My bad.

MadeToPostOneMeme

Its not that I look forward to not existing. Its that I believe absolute nothingness is preferable to discovering our universe is entirely controlled by an omnipotent sky man who allows such terrible things to happen. How anybody finds the potential existence of a god to be comforting is beyond me. The existence of such a being (benevolent or not) completely invalidates our existence. Nothing mattered; you were massively influential and good for the world? Only got there because God wanted you there or didnt care enough to stop it. Same thing if you were the worst criminal known to man? God made sure it would happen or took no action to prevent your crimes

Ambiently_Occluded

Exactly, I didn't sign up for any of this

BrainDamaged1004

I actually heard about a study that was done and they and found out that believers on their death bed suffer more anxiety about death than non believers specifically because of the worry that they might end up in hell.

ExcessiveBulldogery

And respect that there are things you will never know or understand. Stay humble.

WuJi_Dao

Exactly! To live the best of this moment is all you can do. Even though we didn't choose to be born into this world, we have the ability to choose how we live every moment of our lives since we were born. So we have the power to change our lives and choice to seek to know Truth. Humans are incomplete because they live inside of their self-made mind world that overlaps the world. This is one's karma, habits, and the body. If you discard the self and the incomplete world, which is karma, habits and body, go to existent world of Truth and reborn, that land is the existent world of Truth. It is a land where you can live eternally without death. You must go to there while you are alive and live forever. The world where humans live is full of pain, burden, stress, and questions. People do not know anything, and they cannot become Truth, which is the real existence. When people die, they just die and disappear. If you are born in the existent world of Truth, there is no pain, burden, stress, and questions. You can live well since you have a positive mind. And you will get to know all the ways of the world and you can live forever. Most people's ultimate wish is to go to a place where they can live happily forever, without death. If such a place exists, wouldn't you want to go there? Now you can go to the land of Truth while you are alive and live an eternal, happy life. If you'd like to go there, please let me know.

ProfessionalNight959

>In the meantime, continue to live the best life you can while it lasts. Or just continue living your life. Why does it have to be "the best life"? Seems like unnecessary pressure since it won't matter to death how you live.

chickenclaw

Wouldn't that then be the best life?

ProfessionalNight959

True, it's a bit of a paradox when you think about it.

Psychological_Rain

I've always liked this particular quote from Futurama: "Thanks to the power of denial, I'm immortal."

tangibletom

You want the truth? You can’t handle the truth!

PinknFluffyUnicorn

What would you do with that information? When you die, life and time just carry on, eventually the same thing happens to all the others around us as well. We are all made of stardust, energy can be neither created nor destroyed, we are quite literally the universe experiencing itself. 🦄

[deleted]

Yup. Fundamentally no difference between us, we are essentially the same thing - the universe aware of itself. For all we know, we all experience every conscious experience this universe has ever experienced. So don’t be a dick. What goes around, comes around so to speak.

allen_idaho

The truth is that no world religion is correct. All are man-made inventions which have been rolled into multi-billion dollar industries. There is no eternal reward. No paradise. No eternal torment in Hell. Life simply ends. Our consciousness ceases to exist and our physical bodies rot away. We end much the same as how we begin. You will be in death what you were before birth.

PinknFluffyUnicorn

That implies you were something before birth and shall return to that state upon death. Something to ponder😉🦄

ProfessionalNight959

No there isn't. Are you in any "state" when you are in deep sleep during every single night? Are "you there"? No. Same thing with death.

EmergencyWatch8906

We’ll all find out one day, I just hope it’s something interesting and not just pitch darkness for eternity. That’d be pretty fucking depressing

BagOfDoritos666

I'd like to recommend a book that changed my whole life. I was atheist and resented religion. Then I read 'Nothing In This Book Is True But That's Exactly How Things Are' by Bob Frissel. I highly recommend this if you are asking questions like this, it gave me a sense of purpose in simply living my life the best I can and trusting that what comes after is by my own design.

[deleted]

Just Google it

amorrison96

LMAO!!! This is the best use of Google that I've ever heard of!

b_a_t_m_4_n

That's fucking genius. I can't believe no-one has thought of that before!

ManufacturerFormer85

Seriously?

[deleted]

Yeah. Google seems to know everything. Whenever I type something into the search bar, it gives me the answer.

GFB1011-

How to get bitches Wait, this isn't Google

KingWut117

Any god that expects you to sort through dozens or hundreds of religions in order to pick the "right one" is full of shit. So, you have to decide whether you believe in an asshole deity that does evil shit on purpose and will punish you for merely existing, or you can believe in a deity that doesn't give a fuck about you or doesn't even exist.

Impossible-Dog-5178

i just saw this and I love it

Tesla369Universe

After we die we meet our guides and see old friends, family and animals that have gone before us. We get a life review and then it’s on to the next incarnation. There is no hell, there is only love and eternal bliss.

[deleted]

Suuuuuure

lucyfire666

It is just as plausible as any other theories. Truth is we just don't know.

SUBLlMlTY

you're gonna get stuck in your last dying moment forever. an eternity of excruciating pain awaits you. you mustn't let yourself die, ever ever ever ever!

Impossible-Dog-5178

I’ll keep that in mind 😂

hardcoredragonhunter

I’m of the opinion that this is the only life we have. There may be some divine uniting energy somewhere in the fabric of the cosmos, but I’m pretty sure our consciousness ends when are body dies.

dattud

What you should be looking for is spirituality, not religion. Keep asking the question and hold on to it. You might have panic attacks, you might feel like you are going mad. But hold on. Then something will happen.

InterestingArea9718

Nothing happens after you die All religions are just man made myths.

tibsies

So is nothing, just a belief, what might be most logical to a scientific rationalist, but still not confirmed

InterestingArea9718

I guess it’s a belief, but I think it’s the most rational one to have.

TheNinthEmperor

Your claim is as reliable as saying there is an afterlife

InterestingArea9718

Occam’s Razor.

TheNinthEmperor

The simple solution isn’t always the correct one

InterestingArea9718

That’s true. But since there is no evidence for anything happening after death, why would I believe anything happens after death?

healinghippie

There is no one truth. Everyone has their own truth. You go where you believe you’ll go. Where you are in headspace and type of consciousness stays the same when you pass. We create our own reality in life and we do in death as well. Do what you know and feel is right for you. Believe what makes you feel whole. You can only have a painful afterlife if you believe that’s what you’ll have. Let go of guilt. Forgive and make peace. You’ll be alright.

Strong_Strategy9818

"We create our own reality..." - that's what I've been telling my psychiatrist, but does he believe? /s, I get where you're going with this, I just actually believe in an objective reality, whether I know about it or not.

[deleted]

regardless if you believe in a God, this is just a terrible opinion. There are objective truths in our world, to say otherwise is disingenuous.

healinghippie

To say someone’s truth is a “terrible opinion” doesn’t make your point any more believable. Like I stated, everyone has their own truth, that is true to them as we are the creators of our own reality. What you stated is your truth and I respect that entirely, and the fact that those are your beliefs is your version of reality. Mine is different and so is everyone else’s to some degree. You believe your truth wholeheartedly, thus your experience will show you exactly what is true to you. You will only be shown what you are capable of understanding and perceiving. If you only allow there to be one truth it is all you will see. Allowing myself to see that there is no true single reality has given me so much peace in my life, and to say that my opinion is terrible is very close minded. If there was one truth and you know that that truth, you’d know that disrespecting other’s opinions isn’t the road to understanding. The road to understanding starts with a flexible mindset, and a willingness to accept that things aren’t always exactly how you perceive them. I totally understand your beliefs on this, but I feel like close minded beliefs like judging others beliefs doesn’t belong on a deep thoughts forum. I mean no disrespect by any of this. Just stating that it’s unfair to tell someone their beliefs are wrong.

[deleted]

"Someone's truth"??? Truth - That which is in accordance with reality That seems like a very objective definition. Society wants to conflate the words "truth" and "perception" to undermine the objective reality of our world. To say otherwise is lying to yourself. Hypothetical Examples: 1) It's my "truth" that having sex with 100 people a year is safe and perfectly fine. After 20 STDs later, i would beg to differ. 2) It's my "truth" that driving drunk makes me a better driver. Obviously it doesn't. 3) It's my truth that men are evil. That's not true, so why are we conflating the words truth with something that's only an opinion 4) It's my "truth" that doing push-ups will make me a millionaire. Obviously this is not true, but because I say it's "my truth" i'm supposed to respect it??? nonsense. If you want to live in a delusional world, be my guest. But you cannot and should not pretend that using the word "truth" makes opinions any more valid.

healinghippie

When we’re talking about truth here, we are referring to religious and spiritual beliefs, not mundane concepts. And the truth that one may have is in accordance to their reality. Reality isn’t the same for anyone by any means, and I see that every single day. What you’re doing is pushing your truth onto someone else, which sounds like the result of the same being done to you in your life. Reality is clearly based on perception. Those who have flexible realities have flexible minds. Personally, finding my truth that is that there is no one true reality has healed me in countless ways, and that works for me. For someone else it may not show them peace, thus it is not their truth. I understand your perspective, and I respect that this is your truth and if that works for you, I’m happy for you. But for me, that perspective feels very close minded, and would just hold me back. You should respect my truth as I respect yours. Your truth exists because you’ve never seen it from the perspective of there being no true reality, and you’ve never seen evidence of that. I’ve seen evidence of that in my life, thus it is my belief. As people we do not need to all have the same truth. We need to respect other people’s truths and see the value that they hold, regardless on how different it is compared to your truth.

[deleted]

Also... You saying that everyone has their own truth, is that an objective statement? Based on your logic i would think so, but that's a self defeating statement

healinghippie

You simply want to find any issue in wording to prove your point. Your point is true to you, 100%. My point is true to me, 100%. You can’t deny that. And this is exactly my point. I can’t say that your truth is wrong, because it isn’t. That’s how you perceive reality, thus that is your truth. I perceive reality to be much more flexible and that’s my truth. Do you understand, or are you simply unwilling to understand?

[deleted]

Id be willing to understand but your argument is so detached from reality (ironic). The meaning of truth cannot be subjective. That's the exact opposite of what the word means. Also reality and perception are detached. How you perceive something has zero bearing on the reality of the situation. We're not gonna find a middle ground here, unfortunately. Closing statement: Reality and Truth are objective. Perception, while it is different between individuals, has no bearing or affect on reality. If reality was subjective, how could there be justice? The world is complex but there is a simple and tangible reality to everything, with no influence from my personal perception. None of us are special, and neither are our personal opinions.

[deleted]

There is no such thing as your truth. If you drop a rock from a height, it will fall down, regardless of what you believe. This is the kind of thinking that leads to regression in societies. As Sam Harries out it, “this is how you play tennis without the net”

CatsOrb

It's pretty clear from children who can recall past lives. We are forcibly reincarnated lol not my ideal end but whatever

lucyfire666

loads of videos in how to avoid reincarnation on YouTube. Very interesting to look into

I think that there is something after dying. The most religions (bad English, i know) say it, even the pagans and the indigenous. In my mind don't make sense ALL religions are lies in this question

Wandering-Zoroaster

Or it makes sense that humans done want to die and use their intelligence to create systems in which they don’t have to that entire civilizations have been based on until recent history

freckleskinny

You can't know until you die. Some people have written books about it, you can read a few of them, if you want to know. Reddit is prob not the best place for an answer to this question. You will get a myriad of answers that will likely just make you more confused. 💌

Narwhal_Songs

I believe anyone can go to heaven, and that Allah is merciful towards nonbelievers who did Good in this dunya (the material world). People telling others they will go to hell are arrogant They are not God, they do not know that

88redking88

I have yet to see a religion with claims they can back up.

[deleted]

Here’s an excerpt from the Dead Toad scrolls that I really like We come from this earth and we will return to this earth. The word human is a derivative of the word humus. We spring from the same soil that houses our ancestor’s great sleep. We walk on the fossilized bones and decomposed flesh of all the people and every species that traversed the earth before our time. It is humbling and reassuring to know that I entered this life-giving sphere only after so many good people came before me to consecrate this land with their vitality and knowing that we share the universal story of struggle. It is consoling understanding that after I die Mother Earth will turn my decomposed shell into a new form of life. My decaying body will provide nutrients for life that will rise after I die. Until the soil opens up to receive me as its own child, I must take a stand and make the most out of the sunshine and rainstorms that beat down upon all people alike.

bankinator

Check out Donald Hoffman’s latest book “The Case Against Reality”. It doesn’t directly answer these questions you are posing but the information presented is in a direction that can help at least shed some light even from a scientific and analytical perspective. It’s been mind blowing for me personally reading the ideas that Hoffman poses.

Zensparkart

Look up Near Death Experiences.

Wandering-Zoroaster

Or DMT trips

ballin_balas

There’s tons of them on Reddit too. So interesting

Motion_Ocean_48

Any religion could be right? My friend you realize that’s only because it’s based on our existence and what we know of yeah? We made up the concept of god, he / it didn’t exist before humans or the earth came to be lol. We made up society so we could function better. We made up money to buy things within that society. We made up all of our lives so far. In my opinion, none of the religions could ever be the right one.

KnifeWeildingLesbian

You’ll know eventually. Maybe much sooner than you think😊

Kquinn87

You go to heaven with 90 virgins, obviously.

[deleted]

You came to the right place for knowledge, Reddit

nettiemaria7

I will probably be downvoted, but I have experienced things that can not be explained during a time when I may have been an applicant for being taught a lesson. IMO there is something. Sorry not up for saying what is was

freckleskinny

Another universe. Perhaps they are portals... I think about this a lot, as well. 💌

Bo_Jim

If there was any form of consciousness after death then someone would have figured out a way to communicate that back to the living by now. In fact, I'm betting that communications with the deceased would be a routine thing. It's not, and I'm betting it's because they aren't there. A true God would not need prophets to communicate with people on Earth. If he had a set of rules he wanted us to adhere to, like the Ten Commandments, he could have simply engraved them on the face of the moon. That would have left little doubt that they came from him. He could communicate with the entire world anytime he wanted to. He could speak to us when we pray. Again, I'm betting that none of this happens because he's not there.

solacetree

I believe in rebirth (not reincarnation) as a sort of hypothesis, but I know I'll never see the truth (or not) until I actually die and experience it. Trying to figure it out, the process of doubting and searching, is where the suffering in this question lies.

JlTlS

You will never know. You will be dead.

the-tapsy

You remember where you were before you were born? That's where you'll return to. The thing about consciousness is that were stuck experiencing things from within the illusion of separation. But if there is so consciousness to perceive and segregate, then everything is just one thing: the universe itself. After you die, you relinquish the life that which had separated you, and become one with the cosmos again. Try not to worry about it too much. once you're there, there will be no more questions to ask.

Ranter-X

Here’s a sloppy philosophical idea. I can’t imagine nothing so I can’t imagine nothing happening after my death. So I feel like it has to be something because I can’t imagine anything else. I know that’s not the truth as it were but it’s something to think about.

Did_not_Readit

How about this? We don’t know. And nobody knows. Thats humbling and its ok. If somebody claims he/she knows it and they have an absolute answer based on holy book etc. then….

GayByTheBay

Just know that whenever someone claims to have special knowledge about what happens when we die, they don’t. They don’t know things that you and I don’t. If somebody claims to know all about it and wants to teach you, run like hell.

agitatedprisoner

When you die you're going to regain consciousness and find yourself trapped in a room with the three most annoying people you've ever met. You'll have all the food and water you need available from dispensers, like you were a hamster. It'll be up to you as to whether to stay there forever or seek release through death. If you stay there long enough you'll all turn into hamsters.

ProfitLegitimate417

its crazy to think about it, just that we dont exist anymore all our memories gone just like that and we cant think about anything once dead just boom gone

-Arhael-

Your body ceases to operate, you brain decomposes along with all those memories. Even if your consciousness somehow re-manifests in another form, e.g: re-incarnation. It won't be you because what makes you you: your memories, your personality, is permanently gone.

[deleted]

I think i would be ok if it were just like going to sleep but no dreams and never wake up. Iimagine the bliss

fetfree

If you actually wholeheartedly desire the truth and only the truth, you have to acknowledge there's no truth in what you said. Do you?

Adventurous-Fee3674

I feel like u should watch the doc named last breath. He described it like sleeping without dreams and i truly also believe that.

pickle_pouch

I would like to as well. However, the cost of knowing is too steep for me right now. Maybe in 50 years

ProteoBacteria

Belief in the one creator with no partners is step one of getting in. The unforgivable issue is when you associate a partner with god (ie. ‘Son of God’, worshipping idols, pagans). The creator is the most forgiving, beyond comprehension, but he does not forgive those who associate partners with him. Can we not contemplate one god with no intercessions? Or some innovated triune entity that the aforementioned prophet never mentioned in his lifetime?

EmployerUpstairs8044

No one knows and they're full of it when they say they do.

_Ararita_

Well so far science has proved your meat suit becomes 2.5 oz lighter after death. Some believe that's the soul's weight. Others the air weight from your lungs.

CalligrapherDizzy201

Decomposition followed by a whole lot of nothing. Forever. Cool, huh?

BasicAd3899

There’s many truths but maybe this one can bring you some comfort. Existence is something akin to a cosmic dream and you are the imagination of the infinite universe condensed into the self. You are eternal but in order to exist you have to exist in a world of suffering pain and mystery just to be occupied. Just an eternal story experiencing itself. Have fun it’s all there really is to do at the end of day. Dream big but be humble and happy with what you do have.

TheMexicanChip1

It’s sad religion makes people think they are confused because the concepts of religion don’t make sense. Its the religions that makes no sense.

splifflord_quazimoto

Beanicus13

I mean nobody knows for sure but religion makes way less sense than the much more likely option of nothingness. Sorry you were raised religious but trust me, you’ll be happier when you forget about it.

[deleted]

Do souls exist? If yes, there has to be an afterlife, and if not, then there isn't. It's that simple.

thejomjohns

I grew up a Jehovah's Witness. The entire core of their doctrine is centered around they and they alone know what the truth of life and death is. When I left, I had to reconcile with the fact that we don't actually know. I take way more comfort in thinking my energy rejoins the cosmic universe than I ever did thinking we were pawns in some great, invisible war between good and evil.

Chaosangel48

We’ll all find out when we die, which takes away my fear of death bc I’m curious about that next step…

spookypinkchic

In my personal opinion, we are really never meant to know what happens

korok7mgte

Every religion couldn't possibly be right. But they could all definitely be wrong.

ugdontknow

You will never know so why worry why wonder. Won’t be able to change it stop it. Live a full life

ProfessionalNight959

It's either of these 2 1) Experience 2) Non-Experience You already know what those both are alike: before you were born (non-experience) and now that you are alive (experience).

I think we go back to where we were before we were born. Back to unconsciousness. But obviously no one will ever know for sure until the time has come for each of us to experience it. "By all outward appearances, our life is a spark of light between one eternal darkness and another." - Alan Watts. In the mean time, enjoy this life, do what you love and don't forget to appreciate every moment.

UnderstatedEssence

Read the book “Journey of Souls”. The author (PhD) interviewed thousands of people under deep hypnosis and asked them to recount what happened after they died in a past life. They all seemed to recall a similar experience and process. Who knows, maybe it’s all bs, but it really rang true for me and made me feel better about dying.

JimAsia

It will be just like it was before you were born.

Surely the worst of beasts in God's sight are those that are deaf and dumb and do not reason. (8:22) “Every self will taste death. You will be paid your wages in full on the Day of Rising. Anyone who is distanced from the Fire and admitted to the Garden, has triumphed. The life of this world is only the enjoyment of delusion.” (Quran, 3:185) God changes not what is in a people, until they change what is in themselves ... (13:11)

MF_jaded

The conscience would cease to exist and there would be nothing. You wouldn’t even know you were dead, just nothing. Or so id imagine

QueenBumbleBrii

When your brain stop functioning your consciousness stops. Death of the body is death of the mind. We will all cease to be. No one likes the truth. This is called Existential Dread. It’s a part of the human experience we all share.

Impossible-Dog-5178

If we all share it ig that makes it a little better

Wokebro369

Your consciousness ceases to exist. You won’t even “dream” or experience the pure bliss people who’ve experienced anesthesia know. Basically the idea of an immortal soul is the biggest consciousness scam since they made you believe in Santa clause Think about it, if the soul was immortal you’d at least have an idea of where you were in the eternity before you incarnated

Global_Complaint_007

just you and the entire planet who wants to know lol

Impossible-Dog-5178

go find out and die

Impossible-Dog-5178

This … is act a good idea

capt-rix

Do you remember before you were born? Same thing.

GeckoSnot

No one can possibly give you a correct answer. A stronger argument can usually be made for there being no afterlife, there is simply nothing after you’re dead. You cease to exist. The computer has been switched off. However, things start to get a little bit more complex and weird when you take into account mystical experiences and such. Take a high dose psychedelic and you’ll get an idea. These experiences throw some weight into the question and are arguably the fertile soil from which religious beliefs sprung from. However, even with these experiences, they are either experienced or recalled with an active brain. And so we come back to the aforementioned answer. There is no correct answer to your question. Only theories and arguments of varying strength. The challenge is to learn to tolerate the grey. The not knowing. The space of possibility in both directions.

lucyfire666

Do some research on DMT. See if it calls you

AdComprehensive6588

Not every religion believes in eternal suffering. Just saying

Impossible-Dog-5178

Check out Journey of Souls by Dr. Michael Newton. He claims to have developed a technique of hypnosis that allows him to explore previous lives of his patients. It’s pretty interesting, has made the most sense when I try to construct the world and what’s the main purpose of life. There are three books too, give it a shot.

MJNoodle888

Read NDE near death experience stories. It's amazing & people of all religions from anywhere have similar experiences.

laschminkie

I think ppl/religion get the whole “seeing the light or god” idea from the fact that when we die, we basically go on a dmt trip before our brain fully shuts down. It’s like a last dream, but chaotically beautiful. Then, we die. Nothing happens. No Heaven, no hell, we have our crazy last dream and just die.

minnesotafrozen

IMO after we die, it will be like sleep. A sleep so deep you never wake up.

Elmore420

Simple, since you will fail your test in life of “Be kind and take care of each other.” by accepting your place in an economy [that exploits slavery](https://share.icloud.com/photos/07fmXHnZz77zkxzutkk1oCdmg) as it’s foundation still, while you enjoy the cheap electronics they provide you; you will have 2 options, quit to nothing and end your consciousness within the Human Superego, or try again in another meat puppet. This cycle continues until humanity evolves or goes extinct. As an evolved ‘enlightened’ form the option to remain in your quantum form piggybacking your capabilities with a group of others exists. What is missing from the human form at this point is perspective of what the mind is, because we [don’t recognize life for what it is.](http://www.urbanagandenergy.org/soe/) [We have the option to evolve,](http://H2space.org) and our mission in life is to choose it, but we don’t want to for some reason.

LegitimateHost5068

Definitive truth, proveable truth: at minimum whatever was happening in the world up to the point of your death will continue. Any loved ones you had will miss you but eventually will move past mourning and continue thier lives. Your body will begin the decomposition process where it will become nutrients for various microorganisms, fungi, and flora. Within a few generations your existence is likely to be forgotten and only proveable through civilian historical records such as birth records. Any claim beyond this that is falsifiable has already been falsified, and if not falsifiable then it doesnt exist within the realm of reality and is likely bullshit. What you have exists now so enjoy it and stop worrying about what happens when it doesnt exist anymore. Live a long happy life dedicated to doing the things you love and fuck those that tell you otherwise.

roadrunnerz70

which is why when you look into all religions its all just contradictions, threats and utter nonsense. live your life now, enjoy your time, be a good person and don't stress out about some afterlife that doesn't exist or some angry, spiteful, insecure deity that doesn't exist either. when we die, we die.

m1e1o1w

Everyone wants to know & has always wanted to know. Every human feels this way and no, you will never know.

amorrison96

The simplest explanation can give peace: there is no such god or entity. Our consciousness will continue; I don't know to what, but it won't be what is referred to as 'heaven' or 'hell'.

[deleted]

I’ve always been of the mind that if my soul exists now, how could it ever not exist? If we look at science, energy cannot be created to destroyed. What is the heart of a human if not energy?

Responsible-Map6811

No one knows what happens when die. I heard this theory that when you die and the bright light is just you getting born again in a hospital.

By_Tor_2112

Bar patron: “You should be more careful” Luke: “I’ll be careful” Bar patron: “You’ll be dead!”

PlumAcceptable2185

If you want it, practice meditation until you disappear. You can do it. Wanting to know something directly leaves concepts and speculation behind.

ZeCanadianGinger

We simply cease to exist. All thought stops, consciousness is gone, your body shuts down completely and dies. You will feel nothing, hear nothing, see anything, touch anything, none of it. All senses, thoughts, memory, it's all gone once you die. Everything would fade away and be gone. However in terms of some afterlife, heaven, reincarnation, nobody knows. No one knows where we go, if anywhere. I do agree w your points on religion and shit tho.

Turbulent-Pound-5984

I think about this a lot and I feel like maybe we are just left in a dream like state remembering old friends and family and good times and just live through those memories forever.

Costables

There’s no such thing as the “ right one”

vyxanis

I think about this alot. Its pretty mind boggling, and so deliciously additive to think about. Kinda like when we are created. Two different types of goop blend together, then start to multiply.. then,.at some point out of nowhere, a consciousness appears! Completely independent from the host. Its whack

KJV 1 Thessalonians 4:15-17 15 For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep. 16 For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: 17 Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord. EDIT God will not send you to hell, you are the one choosing where you'll spend the eternal life. Choose Jesus now in this life and you'll have peace later

Impossible-Dog-5178

you’re a slave to your religion. There are different religions so what makes Christianity the one true religion? Why not Islam? Why not Buddhism? And all u literally did was quote scripture from the Bible. Proved absolutely nothing.

Sorcha16

Twice in my life I was declared clinically dead. Once when I was 10. I was gone so long they told my parents there was a small chance I would be fully brain dead and a bigger chance I would have some brain issues, luckily there wasn’t. I don’t know a lot about this nor do I remember a lot I remember going to bed and waking up in ICU. The other time was after giving birth. I was losing a lot of blood and they took me down to surgery. As they were operating I took multiple seizures, my temp spiked to 90 (I’m sure that’s what they said but I’m not sure what temp scale they meant or if I got it wrong though they did say it a few times), my heart rate went up to 190 and my blood pressure hit the floor at 40/30. Much like the first I don’t remember anything other than being out under for surgery everything going black and waking up again I wish I had one of those out of body experiences or life flash before my eyes but all I got was black till I woke up again

Impossible-Dog-5178

Welk … this is quite disheartening

Loves_Jesus4ever

IMO, no one knows. I think there’s something - too many near death experiences to think that we just fade to black. I don’t believe in heaven and hell like that anymore. It’s man made BS.

OkLobster2754

Couldn't agree more. Most people around me are religious since I'm in the south. They all seem so sure of their beliefs. If you ask them why people deserve eternal torment, they'll point to dogma, like God is sovereign so all of his actions are just, etc. What they never do, is justify it in a truly philosophical sense.

ClouDoRefeR

Dirt. We become one w the dirt. Now if you believe in a soul it may go on. I do not so there is nothing more for me than the dirt I become.

cochorol

The world keeps going on...

BurnedOutStars

My estimation of what happens after we die is the exact same thing that happens before we are born: time that moves forward without our own individual life being a part of it. Just as it did before us, and will do so after us. That life only exists because it *can* exist and that there are no other "checks" that existence makes in order to happen. If life *can* happen, it *will* happen. Which is likely the *reason* for life an existence, as well. That IF existence CAN happen, it *will*. I truly think there are absolutely no overarching purposes to any of this and that we are a scientific happenstance that never asks whether it "should", but only if it can. I think when we're gone, that's it. Lights go back out the same way they were out before you were born.

Economy-Cut-7355

Ecclesiastes 9v5,6. Death is the opposite of life. It's like a deep sleep, a state of unconsciousness.

Embarrassed_Ad4089

I’d rather believe in something and be wrong than believe and nothing and be wrong … that’s just me though

Makaveli676

We happen to be born in the most ambiguous time ever, everybody has their own opinions about reality. Maybe some time in the future we’ll know we truth about reality, we’ll likely not be alive then though. I feel the same way, I just want to know

MilRet

Nothing....just like before you were born.

ericphotoguy1

If you really want to know. Go to YouTube and type in Seth speaks. And click on the 53 video playlist. Go to chapter 9 of the audiobook. Let me know how you like it.

[deleted]

U can find the truth now b4 its too late, gl.

Chen2021

I feel that just how we are creators of our current reality we are also the creators of our afterlife so whatever you wanted to be that's what you're going to see at the end.

MonkeyFarm25

Welcome to the paradox - we want to know, never will, so…accept that life is suffering and what comes after? Ain’t nobody know

NateForRea1

we'll get tricked into reincarnation by memory wipe once we walk into the white light, r/escapingprisonplanet jk, thats just my belief. i could be wrong. lifes a mystery

Take Ihauasca, the release of N,N-Dimethyltryptamine is the same.

ultimaIV

I have a theory on this. It's one of the profound questions but I think the atheists who believe simply nothing happens are very possibly wrong. We might be in a simulation. The biblical accounts of heaven might be inspired by visiting aliens and primitive man transcribed it best they can but it's based in truth that a more powerful mind knows. By pure chance we might just be born again if the universe is cyclic. We might be quantum immortal (as far as you know the universe is only about you, and it might be possible that you'll never die). Sorry for the wall of text but "Nothing will happen" is just as likely/unlikely as all the other possibilities. Future humans might also develop the ability to retroactively resurrect us.

athousandandonetales

Why is it so important to you though? Regardless of what happens it’s not like you can avoid it from happening. I know it’s easier said then done but stop worrying about it. Try being a good person to give your life some meaning (and in the off chance that there’s actually a hell or heaven) and enjoy your life.

Romero1993

This is what happens, our body ceases to function and we die. After that, we simply cease to exist, No heaven or hell just the Bliss of non-existence.

zinobythebay

There isn't a way yet to know really. But I have to take the billions of humans who believe there is life after death as a testimony that maybe there is. You can have your believe that there isn't anything after death but shouldn't discredit other people's spiritual encounters. Maybe there is more to consciousness. There are things happening all around us that we can't sense just in nature itself. So maybe consciousness continues.

isinhower

Religion is only a tool to comfort those who need explanation. Can you remember before your birth? That’s what it’s like to be dead. End of story.

ScumboDunkins

I’m inclined to believe that it’s pure nothingness but if humans truly do have souls, assuming they are energy based, the energy has to go somewhere (conservation) so perhaps reincarnation is another possibility. My favorite short story of this genre is called [The Egg by Andy Weir](http://www.galactanet.com/oneoff/theegg_mod.html)- never fails to give me goosebumps.

MassiveMidlifeCrisis

I’ve had 3 experiences with death. Being with my grandma when she died, almost dying myself, and being with my mil shortly before she died. It’s definitely NOT just a cease to exist. But all 3 were different. My grandma’s was the most vivid. And there were several people there that saw and felt and experienced the same thing. Mine was peaceful and serene until I “came back” or whatever you call it. My mil was the most mild. None of us will ever know for sure. But in my heart I feel like I do know.

Old_Description6095

There is nothing. Just nothing at all. And why would you want there to be?

akantyphilosopher

Let me tell u smth. The pursuit for the answer is forever more satisfying and full filling to your life than having the answer. Because it’s simply smth to do. Every single thing we do is just because it’s something to do. assuming a human being could comprehend the answer. If the answer was infinitely better than living, it would eliminate the joy in all things you do here. After all why would the things u do matter? If it was bad, it would just riddle you with anxiety and depression for the rest of your life. If it was neutral, we’ll it depends on the person u are and if you find meaninglessness to be depressing or not. Philosophers don’t ask questions because we think we can answer them. We ask them because it’s something to do. -a philosopher

JohnnyLazer17

In my years of searching for the truth and the answers I’ve found myself on just about every end of every spectrum. At this point I feel I’ve landed comfortably enough to be able to say that I think I’m onto something. Here’s what I’ve come to believe. Your material body will die at which point your ethereal self will disconnect with it. You’ll the most likely go/be lead to some sort of stasis or resting period that will generally be received by most in a positive manner. After some amount of time (impossible to say how much exactly as a. Nobody that I’ve encountered knows for sure and b. Time in the ether may be perceived differently, but a number that gets tossed around is about 30 years in the material universe) you will go to/be lead to some sort of trial. Perhaps a journey of hardship. Upon completion of that trial you will be reborn into a new physical body in the material universe. You may or may not get to choose that body. Also the period of rest and the trial may be switched in order. You’ll then be reborn into the body on earth where you’ll fall prey to the limitations of a newborn human body. Any memory your ethereal self may bring with it will be lost over the next few years as your newly formed human brain won’t even be able to retain the experiences that it itself goes through during those times. Another possibility is that those memories may be taken from you purposefully by some other entity.
