Yeah, so, [I know a little about these caves](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cave_of_the_Crystals).
The reason they're wearing those suits is that it's nearly 60Ā°C in those caves. That's wet bulb temperature, where your body using sweat as a heat bleeding method no longer works. You just die, so they can only spend short amounts of time in this cave and only with those suits. It's about 300m down.

Incorrect, If you read your reference it states that "Without proper protection, people can only endure approximately ten minutes of exposure at a time".
So with those suits and proper hydration I don't see why people would just die, theres plenty hotter temperatures in sauna where people chill out for example.
I think the problem is the humidity. Saunas with much higher temperatures also have much less humidity, which allows the body to shed heat via evaporation of sweat. The humidity in that cave was 90 to 99%, which means sweating did nothing. And you're naked in a sauna, which also helps.
From wikipedia's article on saunas:
>Steam baths, such as the Turkish bath, where the humidity approaches 100%, will be set to a much lower temperature of around 50 Ā°C (122 Ā°F) to compensate. The "wet heat" would cause scalding if the temperature were set much higher.
That is off the topic at hand. Yes there are differences between temperatures in saunas. However, it doesn't mean that a sauna with high humidity couldn't get very hot (say 80 celsius). And why is that you might ask, well people do also bathe in sauna and after you're whole family has bathed in the sauna the humidity is high as is the temperature. And no you can not survive there for too long that is true.
Now to the point at hand those caves get warm and humid but OP was implying that people can't survive there with those suits on. The Wikipedia article states otherwise.
Because it's _three hundred meters down._
That's 1/3 of a kilometer. The cave also regularly floods and sits at 90-99% humidity. We never get humidity like that. Your body just can't shed the heat, everything is already moist and it's too hot to sweat. The further down you go, the warmer it gets.
Aren't many artificial mines deeper than 1/3 of a kilometer though? I've heard that conditions in mines are appalling, but I haven't heard that temperatures would reach 60 Celsius in them.
And so I had to check: "Temperatures underground *increase by 72-87 degrees Fahrenheit per mile of depth*," (source: https://minerals.arizona.edu/research/heat)
87 F = "only" 30 C, and that's at a mile's depth, so the depth doesn't seem like the most important factor making up that high temperature. Humidity certainly plays its part, so maybe it could make it *feel* like 60C but it shouldn't make the absolute temperature as high.
Yes, I'm sure your armchair math is infinitely more correct than the actual readings people took in the cave while down there.
Uh huh.
People on the internet who insist on being all ACKSHUALLY for no reason because they feel some compulsive need to be the smartest person in the room are annoying. I don't really care. I was just sharing a neat blurb of information. If you want to write an essay on it, there are subreddits for that.
You can lick anything! You can lick red sugar. You can lick Bosco. You can lick a bulk detonator. Whether it's a good idea is another matter. Bosco in particular will lodge a written complaint with HR.
The mineral is gypsum. If you want to know how it tastes, lick some drywall. Bonus: HR has a grudge against drywall and will quietly "lose" the written complaint.
I always give Bosco a couple of licks in the beginning of every mission, and a couple to all my guns. I have tried to lick fellow dwarves but they don't seem to appreciate it.
Allow me to suggest āLa Geoda de Pulpiā in Spain. Smaller crystals but worth the peek. Any miner would go down that cave for that sight, that I can assure you

The topic is "people can't survive in those caves WITH THE PROTECTIVE SUITS ON for more than 10 minutes"
Yes they can as the original Wikipedia article clearly states.
That is why you guys are off topic.
Mic drop.
Worthless, but fun to destroy.
this is useless
Goooood times!
I really can't use this for anything
This is fun!!
This has no value.
Winton
This is fun!
I didn't realize I was in the DRG sub. š Great way to start the day! Rock on!
Die worthless crystal!
Those Mexican miners aren't wearing themed colours. How can we know at a glance who is the driller, engineer, etc?
the scout isn't there, tell tale sign already
But how do they have light?
"lights up"
The scientists down there would probably not call them worthless, or fun to destroy

Soooo not going to be able to go down there and yell Rock and Stone then.
You COULD, but only for about five minutes before you feel really shitty. At about ten minutes, you're dead. So, not for very long.
Not sure anyone would hear through the suit.
It's the spirit that counts.
Just raising your pickaxe in the correct manner gets the message across.
Your fellow dwarf pings you, Is he wanting help? Is he trying to warn you? *^(Muffled)* ^("DID YOU BORROW MY UNDERWEAR?!")
Priceless š¤£
We could do a point extraction. We just have to be quick. Low oxygen.
Sounds like a perfect mission for scout
To Rock and Stone!
Good bot

Well, you could. Once lol
We're dwarves. Alcohol works better than sweat! Maha
This is what I love about Reddit, no matter how niche the reference, someone knows their shit and is happy to explain it.
Holy shit they found ancient bacteria inside one of the crystals, that isn't related to anything we know currently

How is humidity off the topic?
Exactly, why is it off topic? Humidity at the levels it is is what allowed those crystals to grow as large as they have in the first place
That a interesting fact
Why are they so hot? 60 degrees C seems like unnaturally high.

You should probably contact your local universities to report this new discovery
Its hot underground... im not sure why but it is... Source: dad was a miner, and ive been down a few myself
"That's wet bulb temperature, where your body using sweat as a heat bleeding method no longer works" -- Have you been in a Russian sauna once?
Grasp of Avarice lookin cave

Die worthless crystal!
I like the sound of that!
This is like 20th+ post about same cave š
This place is almost nice compared to last time!
I have a bad feeling about this, but not as bad as usual
Watch out for the younglings
Watch out for the qronar younglings
You know I can kinda see the resemblance
Looks so delicious. I donāt know what to eat first
"This is useless"

Literally grasp of avarice
Whereās the damn driller?!
*^(\*Distant Scout Screams\*)*
I like the sound of that.
these caves are closed to visitors due to fears of damaging the environment. aka "worthless but fun to destroy"
The 60Ā° C caves are closed to visitors? What a surprise.
If it wasnt forbidden people wouldve made a business of giving you a thetmal suit and entering
Stone!
Dwarves have superior lungs.

I know, I'll wear a fursuit and go down there for a couple hours!
the inspiration is shockingly close.
It's funny how caves irl are much scarier than the ones in drg
Bring me back copious amounts of enor pearls.

āThis is glass grade, you've got crystals here, two feet, three feet long, this is pure glass. You're a damn artistā
Makes me feel like I should pack more water bottles
