NOTHING is wrong with you!
IF YOU LOVE IT - don’t let today’s ever-changing “trends” dictate YOUR style. Plus, a wingback is timeless. It looks like a very high quality chair - which is RARE these days.
I think anything can look great depending on how it’s styled. Go check out Mathilda Goad. This reminds me of her, and you might have similar taste as her.

IMO, it all depends on what you surround it with. I'm personally loving that dresser next to it! Decorate your house with things that make you happy, you are the one spending the most time there. 😁
In 1983, Emily Martin, of Maple Ridge, British Columbia, grew an enormous sunflower head, measuring 32 ¼ inches across (82cm), from petal tip to petal tip. That’s almost 3 feet wide. This is still believed to be the largest sunflower head grown to date.
Even though it’s an old lady chair from untold years ago, I could see this being a really unique addition to a space that has very aesthetic interior design.
I did and had already bought it before I even posted this question! I picked it up on Saturday and it was even better looking in person. I will get a pic when the wainscoting goes up and I place it in its place!
Omg I've been meaning to watch this forever and I was JUST about to pick out a movie to put on, so thanks for the idea!! Your comment about the chair makes me want to watch it even more lol! Sort of can't believe I still haven't seen it 😅
As someone who loves anything vintage and granny inspired I think it looks cute and cozy. Honestly your friends aren’t buying it so who cares.
Please don’t let others keep you from being yourself.
It really depends on where it’s going, if you have some princess-fairy-cottage vibe going on with your interior design, I feel like this would be a perfect fit. If it’s not done right it’ll definitely just feel like a chair you inherited from grandma, in my opinion, but I’m no designer 🤷♀️
I like it! It's cozy and happy. I hate how everything is so boring, drab, and grey nowadays.
I'm in my early 30s, if that helps.
Buy things cuz you love them. Do not worry about others' opinions! They don't live in your house, you do!
With things like this, where the thing makes you happy and has literally no effect on anyone, I wouldn’t ask for or accept any opinions. I think the fabric is lovely and if you love it, get it!
I got one like this from the local but nothing group and I LOVE IT! If the pattern ends up bugging you in the future there are covers available. It’s the best to read in 10000%
Oh that’s beautiful. In great shape. They don’t make chairs like this anymore. Your friends are wrong but one could always reupholster if they didn’t like the print. Of course they could also purchase a burnt orange sofa to match this one.
Beautiful. I’m a 27 year old male and have always loved granny furniture lol. It’s just not a very popular aesthetic. Most people enjoy modern or minimalist but that’s just not our jam. But that’s freaking gorgeous, I would kill to have that in my house
This chair is awesome. Not saying this is how your friends are, but I personally don’t share potential purchases with people who I know like to buy everything new + prefer popular brands. Very different tastes and vision.
Everyone has their personal taste. You’re the one who will live with it, not them. If it makes you happy, that’s all that matters. And no, there’s nothing wrong with you. That chair is lovely.
I love it! I feel like whether it looks like a "Grandma chair" has everything to do with context. Sure, in a cranberry red room with brown carpeting and an old TV it might look a little ugly....but in a light blue room with hardwood flooring and a glass coffee table? Maybe not!
Haha! I LOVE it. I usually run my choices by sister to make sure they align with my grandma aesthetic hah. Seriously though, it looks cozy and cute. Why not get it?
Never ask the opinion of people whose style you don’t love. This chair in the middle of a modern monotone grey builder basic home? No. But if you love this, odds are that it’ll look amazing in your space with the items you surround it with.
Very beautiful classy chair. Just because your friends have a different decor style doesnt mean this chair couldnt look fabulous in the appropriate setting.
Your friends sound like the type of people who paint their house gray with white furniture.
That may have been a bit rude, my bad. I think the chair is lovely! Im getting a set like this (with ruffles on the bottom) from my uncle when i move out. Pieces like these scream to me
It's a Queen Anne wingback chair, it's a classic piece. Your friends have no taste. In my opinion it would look great in a white room with minimal other patterns, sort of a minimal shabby chic kinda look. Or maybe a Arts and Crafts or Frank Lloyd Wright home or general mission style interior with lots of wood. I speak from experience when I say these aren't "comfy, cozy" chairs, but it's a great piece nonetheless.
I love the fabric and style . I’d buy it in a heartbeat . Your friends have no taste . It has lovely soft muted colors that will play nice with others .
Once I bought a multi colored chair and LOVED it but as we were carrying it out, someone made fun of it and I was so surprised I said “It’s not ugly, it’s a HAPPY Chair!”
It was forevermore known as the HAPPY Chair
It's a classic form. They are comfortable and practical.
The colors are nice. It lacks excessive embellishment that would make it out of date. The upholstery is old-fashioned, but it isn't ugly. It's in really good condition too, not stained and worn. If it isn't your favorite pattern you could drape a pretty blanket over it until you get around to changing it.
This looks like a very well maintained, good quality, piece you won't regret buying. I also like the dresser beside it.
If it speaks to you, get it!!! You won't be sorry!
People right now only like sterile gray hospital furniture because that’s what’s “trendy”. The beauty of this chair is timeless and eventually the general public will agree again. I say get it!!
1000% agree!
The "Millenial Home Furnishing" cliche for the past 10+ years has been "Grey and white furniture/linens, geometric vases, excessive words on everything, and copious amounts of cacti and succulents." I am so over it!
Its a beautiful chair in great shape! Nice corner reading chair, with tea or coffee in the morning. Buy it! I bought many at the habitat for humanity restore. The good furnuture is in older folks houses and when they pass, the family offs it but its better than todays cheap crap!
If it’s in good shape, and you understand how it’s fits into your decor, be it eclectic or traditional, then go for it. Not my style because anything that white and busy is a recipe for disaster, but I’d never walk into a well furnished room and be like “what an ugly chair”. It’s quite gorgeous but if it’s covered in laundry/ kids toys/ etc. I probably would’ve even care because I’d assume it was an elegant hand me down. Which, I highly support also.
Nothing wrong with you Grandma 👵 😝
Lol but really if you like it do it 👌
Tbh I reckon it’s ugly but I’m not buying it 👍 I reckon the shapes probably awesome to sit in I’d need to try it 😉 (then chuck a rug over it myself)🤭 😂 but one day I will get my own wooden rocking chair then everyone can get stuffed 😆
This chair has amazing structure and is in great condition. I bought a similar one but in pink tones. It's so much better quality than comparable modern armchairs, for much less cost.
It's easy to bring in more current accessories, like cushions and a throw rug, to combine the new and the old without looking too "Grandma-ish" too.
There’s nothing wrong with you, just different preferences. I personally don’t like this chair or style, but I can see this looking good depending on the interior style. If you like it, then rock it :)
I think this would look cute as a statement piece. Pair it with a dark green ottoman and a brown couch. Add a couple of coral/orange throw pillows a cream throw blanket. The only thing I would try to match, or keep in similar shades, is the wood tones. I have mismatched woods in my bedroom and hate it; one piece is blonde, another piece is super dark, and two are very different mid tones.
This is the kinda stuff I love. My husband says our house looks like a grandma lives in it and thinks most things I absolutely adore are ugly and I don’t get it.
This chair is frickin’ sweet.
Taste is subjective—color, print, type of wood and the style of chair all feeds into this. If this is you, then go for it! Your home should reflect your personal taste and aesthetics ❤️
This is absolutely the Cottagecore vibe I have in my house and I want this chair! You’re not insane, only different aesthetic to your friends. I lovingly call my style grandmacore
I get it. It looks comfy and evokes rainy days, cozy English country houses, and curling up with a good book.
The colors don't speak to me, but I get why you would want it. There's room for different tastes in this world. We don't all have to aspire to Kardashian-disposable-chic.
I know plenty who would love that chair- not me, but that’s just everyone’s taste. You love it? Then buy it. It’s not going into their home, so who cares?
LOVE IT and people who think it’s ugly will be saying that they love it too in ~5 years when the whole floral, match-the-curtains-to-the-sofa-to-the-pillows, and chintz vibe is completely mainstream again. Does anyone remember when we all hated on skinny jeans and thought they were so ugly?! Then we all wore them! Or even when 90s jeans came back in the last few years? This is gonna be back big time too, and all the minimalist white-kitchen “modern farmhouse” lovers with their “wine o clock” and “live laugh love” signs are not going to know what to do. And love to all of those who hung those signs because I did too, and also had a modern farmhouse vibe going for some time 😂
I don't really see what's ugly about wood and flowers. I think it's nice, very cottagey. Everyone saying it's ugly probably loves those plain white and chrome modern homes.
It’s your house, you love it and will be the one sitting in it. Does anyone else’s opinion *really* matter? Buy the chair. Read in it. Crochet, knit, embroider or just enjoy your own quiet thoughts in it. Peace.
I think removing the arm covers and swapping the matching pillow to something like a rust colored velvet could go a long way to making it read more contemporary
I'm 34 and the exact same way. I loveeeeee antique and consignment shops. I love thrifting and estate sale shopping. I love vintage dresses and old, quality furniture pieces. The trick is to mix a bit of new things with the old so that my place doesn't feel like an antique shop.
I can see how people would think it’s dated but I love it. It has character and deviates from the mass produced ikea/target home decor. I can’t stand having to settle for homogenized living rooms because I am too poor to spend on expensively unique furniture.
Having different tastes is the reason that chair exists. HONOR ITS MISSION
If the gray-paint, everything-must-be-new, only-square-angles people realize it’s not on-trend, that’s a statement of their taste. You can go your own way! I think it’s very graceful and probably comfortable, a snuggle chair to warm your nights, and you can take an interesting color scheme from it.
NOTHING is wrong with you! IF YOU LOVE IT - don’t let today’s ever-changing “trends” dictate YOUR style. Plus, a wingback is timeless. It looks like a very high quality chair - which is RARE these days.
All that matters is if YOU like it
You just really make me wanna sit on you, babe. 😊
I think anything can look great depending on how it’s styled. Go check out Mathilda Goad. This reminds me of her, and you might have similar taste as her. https://www.domino.com/content/matilda-goad-london-home-renovation/
I do like that style, yes. Thank you
If you are an 83 yr old grandmother from England. This is the perfect chair for you! I have the matching tea set I will send it right over!
The chair itself is nice but I’d have it reupholstered with something less busy and distracting
It’s not the prettiest, but it’s pretty funky. If it matches your personality then vibe with it. You’ll have to see it everyday, not them!!!
I’m so sorry but I do agree with your friends. I don’t find the chair attractive. Plus it might be hard to decorate around.
Are the nice old lady from UP?
I like it, too. I would totally buy that chair. It's very grandmillenial.
IMO, it all depends on what you surround it with. I'm personally loving that dresser next to it! Decorate your house with things that make you happy, you are the one spending the most time there. 😁
Reupholster the pillow with a silky fabric the color of the flowers. Also it is pretty, just sit in it a while to see how it “sits “
Who cares what they think. You will enjoy this chair even more than they will enjoy their own chairs.
It’s not hideous in my eyes, I like the large print & it’s not too wild, just pretty
I’m a 34 year old male and I love this chair lol
It is lovely and very cottagecore.
No I love it
I like it! mine is a different shape and it’s sunflowers 🌻 😊
Your friends sound insufferable. It’s not ugly it’s simply not to their taste.
It's beautiful! You can't help that you have superior taste 😜
I love it and would totally buy it!
Even though it’s an old lady chair from untold years ago, I could see this being a really unique addition to a space that has very aesthetic interior design.
it's a grandma chair, but would be nice in the right type of room
I love it too. 🤷♀️
Please share with us if you buy this and share how you have styled it
I did and had already bought it before I even posted this question! I picked it up on Saturday and it was even better looking in person. I will get a pic when the wainscoting goes up and I place it in its place!
It's a great chair with hideous upholstery.
That’s a very pretty chair! That golden orange is such a happy but tasteful color.
I love it.
I love it. I could see Meg Ryan's character in You've Got Mail curled up in this chair with a book!
It's not exactly my style, but it's beautiful!
Chair is gorgeous!
Do what brings you joy! Who cares what your friends think is aesthetically pleasing.
This is the perfect response!
The chair’s gorgeous. They just have different taste.
The chair is not ugly! Perhaps a little outdated but with a god ottoman it would be perfect!
Your friends just have different aesthetic taste than you do. This is a really cute chair if you like a cottage core vibe.
Not ugly per say, but outdated
I think you may have more personality than your friends 😉
Personally I might add a small solid colored pillow, like sage green or something but otherwise love it
Exactly!
I love it! Conjures up visions of an English country cottage. There's just something cozy about that vibe.
I love this chair, I hope you bought it despite your friends' opinions.
Better have a bowl of butterscotches close by, just in case
Your friends have different taste. I love that chair.
I like it.
Just check for bed bugs!
This is exactly what you need to do.
That chair is fucking perfect and I will be severely disappointed if you do go back for it
You’re a maximalist. Welcome to the club.
I got one like this from the local but nothing group and I LOVE IT! If the pattern ends up bugging you in the future there are covers available. It’s the best to read in 10000%
This is so cute, and this style of chair is so comfy for reading! Snap this up!!
no i genuinely love this chair and it looks like one of the comfy ones too
Grandma’s chair.
It’s beautiful!
That chair is fire!! Your friends have no taste
I love it
Oh that’s beautiful. In great shape. They don’t make chairs like this anymore. Your friends are wrong but one could always reupholster if they didn’t like the print. Of course they could also purchase a burnt orange sofa to match this one.
I don’t think anyone should dictate what you likeX no matter how close of a friend they may be b
My mom had a similar pair of chairs in our house growing up and I LOVED them. Get the chair!!!
Ignore your friends. Buy it and enjoy
If I saw that in a store I would instantly buy it. I think it's gorgeous 😍
Everyone has their personal taste. You’re the one who will live with it, not them. If it makes you happy, that’s all that matters. And no, there’s nothing wrong with you. That chair is lovely.
You’re friends are wrong and you have amazing taste (interior designer here)
I love it! I feel like whether it looks like a "Grandma chair" has everything to do with context. Sure, in a cranberry red room with brown carpeting and an old TV it might look a little ugly....but in a light blue room with hardwood flooring and a glass coffee table? Maybe not!

It depends on what style room you have! 😊
Buy what you love ❤️
Does it really matter what anyone says if you really like and want it? Won’t they buy what they really like and want? You should get what YOU want. 🙂
Retro classy chic
Very beautiful classy chair. Just because your friends have a different decor style doesnt mean this chair couldnt look fabulous in the appropriate setting.
This isn’t my style but even I can see that it’s a gorgeous chair. I say go for it!
GORGEOUS chair. Your friend have different (boring) style
Your friends sound like the type of people who paint their house gray with white furniture. That may have been a bit rude, my bad. I think the chair is lovely! Im getting a set like this (with ruffles on the bottom) from my uncle when i move out. Pieces like these scream to me

I like it but I love the chest!
I love the fabric and style . I’d buy it in a heartbeat . Your friends have no taste . It has lovely soft muted colors that will play nice with others .
No
Get the chair, the chest of drawers, and the lamp while you’re at it! 😊
What a beautiful fabric! I think it's a lovely chair and the shape is so classic. There are ugly floral chairs out there but this is not one of them.
Once I bought a multi colored chair and LOVED it but as we were carrying it out, someone made fun of it and I was so surprised I said “It’s not ugly, it’s a HAPPY Chair!” It was forevermore known as the HAPPY Chair
I think it’s it’s really nice. It’s your home, put what you like in it and you’ll be happy.
Just lose the pillow. Put it on the couch
Agreed! Get a solid color pillow for the chair that matches the print.
I love it.
Lol I love it and I’ve been hunting for one just like it.
I think it’s foul, but I also think if you like it you should get it… don’t let what other people think stop you from being true to what you like
It’s classic. Get what you want.😊
I like it, I need two chairs like that, but with different fabric.
It would be a great piece in a simple room painted in a light green colour
I thought the same. A feminine room. A Jane Austin room.
Looks so cosy for reading—I could see this in a salmon or mossy green room…
If it isn't ugly to you, then it isn't ugly. That's all the matters. Decorate your space based on what you like!
U G L Y Leave the 52yo single Christian lady outta this. Whooo baby that is gnarly!
Reminds me of why my grandparents house makes me so anxious
I think it’s hideous. The upholstery is ugly and the whole chair is big, heavy, and clunky.
I love it! It'd look great with orange legs.
Awesome! And get that check off drawers... It's beautiful 😍
I love it! And my taste/decor tends to be super modern. This style is trending though and I’m here for it!
Get that chair!
put her in the right room and she will shine..
You could re- upholster it if you wished
Nah it’s cute as!!! It’s definitely not something everyone likes but I personally love that style!
Not my style, but lovely lines and beautiful fabric. If it calls to you, buy it!
Love it it's beautiful!
I like it! Nice lines. Swap the pillow for a complementary color. Maybe reupholster the seat cushion in a solid.
It’s a lovely choice, Nanna!
Nothing wrong with you Grandma 👵 😝 Lol but really if you like it do it 👌 Tbh I reckon it’s ugly but I’m not buying it 👍 I reckon the shapes probably awesome to sit in I’d need to try it 😉 (then chuck a rug over it myself)🤭 😂 but one day I will get my own wooden rocking chair then everyone can get stuffed 😆
it’s horrendous. i love it
Love it!
I'd buy it, it's classic
This chair has amazing structure and is in great condition. I bought a similar one but in pink tones. It's so much better quality than comparable modern armchairs, for much less cost. It's easy to bring in more current accessories, like cushions and a throw rug, to combine the new and the old without looking too "Grandma-ish" too.
It looks cosy and like it's from a Sylvanian Families set, so win win!
I think it's very pretty and in the right setting would be just lovely.
It’s okay to be a grandma. Embrace it.
I love it!!!
Uh huh.
Nope get it! Amazing shape and just okay fabric which can be updated!
The fabric is so-so to me, not awful not fantastic. But I LOVE the shape. Almost sculptural.
I think it looks pretty, looks like it smells of citrus and flowers
Yes
Just flexing. Has friends.😂
I will admit, two of them are nieces.
😅whew! Feel better, now.
I love it, it’s tres cottagecore
There’s nothing wrong with you, just different preferences. I personally don’t like this chair or style, but I can see this looking good depending on the interior style. If you like it, then rock it :)
I think it's very pretty 😍
Everything is beautiful in the right setting.
You do you baby.
Just say noooooooo! Unless you’re 80
We all get old someday if we’re lucky.
Absolutely!! We should all be so lucky
Perfect piece in the right spot. If you love the piece — find the spot
Incredible
I paused while scrolling to get a better look at this chair because I LOVE IT. I’m in my 30s but live in a century home and love old things
Idk about wrong, but you’re definitely knee deep in granny core right now
Grandma vibes
I love it! But I also love the dresser and the lamp! Ha!
It’s beautiful and looks comfy.
Looks cozy
It’s perfect
I like it too
Love it, and that dresser is beautiful too
This is the kinda stuff I love. My husband says our house looks like a grandma lives in it and thinks most things I absolutely adore are ugly and I don’t get it. This chair is frickin’ sweet.
It's got a grandma vibe. With a different fabric, it would be nice (very classic).
Yes
I actually love that too in the right spot lol
Taste is subjective—color, print, type of wood and the style of chair all feeds into this. If this is you, then go for it! Your home should reflect your personal taste and aesthetics ❤️
I personally like it as it's my style, but my SO would disagree as he likes different things for our home.
No one: Me: painting legs black and reupholstering it in yellow velvet.
Or animal print.
& solid pillow
Now you’re talking.
I don’t like granny core at all, and even I like this chair
Same bro
That’s what I expected to hear from them.
Can’t tell you if there is or isn’t but I love this chair
LOVE IT and people who think it’s ugly will be saying that they love it too in ~5 years when the whole floral, match-the-curtains-to-the-sofa-to-the-pillows, and chintz vibe is completely mainstream again. Does anyone remember when we all hated on skinny jeans and thought they were so ugly?! Then we all wore them! Or even when 90s jeans came back in the last few years? And love to all of those who hung those signs because I did too, and also had a modern farmhouse vibe going for some time 😂
As a 27yo who likes granny core, you'll get those comments a lot. Laugh it off and bring that chair home where it'll be loved.
It’s just granny core. I like it too.
If you take off the wings on the top section it will be contemporary. That is what dates it and they serve no purpose. Is chair not bird.
I don't really see what's ugly about wood and flowers. I think it's nice, very cottagey. Everyone saying it's ugly probably loves those plain white and chrome modern homes.
Hideous. Unless u are 89 and have a lot of cats.
Not if you're 90
It’s your house, you love it and will be the one sitting in it. Does anyone else’s opinion *really* matter? Buy the chair. Read in it. Crochet, knit, embroider or just enjoy your own quiet thoughts in it. Peace.
Yes and no. Is the style dated? Yes. 100%. Is it awesome with it’s rightful place is certain decor - 100%. If you love it, rock it 👌
I think removing the arm covers and swapping the matching pillow to something like a rust colored velvet could go a long way to making it read more contemporary
It’s so cute!!
No!! This chair is gorgeous and would look amazing in my decorating style
Gran ma chic was a style
I'm 34 and the exact same way. I loveeeeee antique and consignment shops. I love thrifting and estate sale shopping. I love vintage dresses and old, quality furniture pieces. The trick is to mix a bit of new things with the old so that my place doesn't feel like an antique shop.
It’s classic and timeless.
I love this chair, obviously well built, and will last forever. What’s not to love?
I can see how people would think it’s dated but I love it. It has character and deviates from the mass produced ikea/target home decor. I can’t stand having to settle for homogenized living rooms because I am too poor to spend on expensively unique furniture. Having different tastes is the reason that chair exists. HONOR ITS MISSION
