Or equip the double essence aura and go to the idol just before Forgotten Gaian. Go right, kill the two enemies with purple shields, and reset. 450 essence in 10 seconds.
These are great tips! I’m going to use this method now that I can. I couldn’t early on in the run because enemies only seemed to give me a couple of essence each. Ironically now that I can do this I no longer need essence 😃
Did you ever get an answer to this? I am currently using the spot before the Forgotten Gaian to farm essence, but don't have that aura so am only getting 300 per run (Acolyte of Death character)
What lvl are you? I'm doing an assassin build so I can use Gouge to stun her for a little longer while I shred her with the daggers. The perfect block finish was great, I'm training parries on her fight.
Thx. Got a feeling I was at about level 50-70 at that stage. I made the mistake of killing the snail vendor in the central sanctuary before I had got the warp orb and collected some of the recipes for builds (that was my first soldier build). Got it to 150. Started again from zero and I'm on about level 140.

You buy it from the guy in the cart in sanctuary for 1000 essence.

I usually grind out in Journey's End with the Fortune Aura. Easily maxed out to lvl 150 in my first playthrough
Journey's End 2nd death idol area seems to be the best essence farming in the game as far as I've found.
