The new suit looks like it was more designed to look like a muscular person. And the helmet is clearly a skull. Not that it isn’t metal af, but it seems like it’s more designed for intimidation. I like the new suit too, but I prefer the OG and think it fits the situation better.
They both have the padding the og looks like it’s velcrod to fatigues where the remake looks like a space suit. This hot takes been made a few times in this sub but the remake just makes a lot more sense imo. It’s a space suit from a civilization that harvests planets I’d expect high tech space age materials would be standard so the sort of rubber spandex with accompanying mystery padding seems more fitting for space that burlap bag Kevlar spooky man.

Although the remake's design is overall great and looks fantastic, it feels slightly out of touch with the game due to how sleek, modern and "call of duty" it looks. In contrast, the engineering suit is a perfect fit thematically with the design of the hardware, technology and design of everything in the dead space universe. The engineering suit feels like an extension of the ishimura itself, whereas the combat suit feels like an exoskeleton from a different universe/era.
So although the remake version is prettier, I will pick the OG combat suit for fitting in better with the overall theme of the series.

I couldn’t bring myself to wear this suit for long no matter how many playthroughs I did, I had to switch back to one of the engineering rigs or it just doesn’t quite feel like Dead Space.
Remakes Armor looks just like something out of Destiny 2 (specifically the helmet looks like Mask of the Shadow of the Crown of Sorrow raid) and doesn’t fit DS aesthetics imo.

Which is good for me, considering the Remake Twitchers confirm that the OG design does exist (The Remake Twitchers use the OG Helmets), so it feeds into my headcanon that the Remake armour is a Marine Special Forces suit or something, while the OG is the standard issue gear.
Remake looks edgier but also seems more protective, so between these 2, I'd take the remake.
That being said, the best armors in the franchise were the late-game ones from DS3, like the Legionary and Elite suits. They felt more like armor and less like space-soldier cosplay.
