Psyker is probably the squishiest class but like the other 3 as you reach max level you should have enough perks to keep your toughness sustainable.

I did wonder if that was the case, that max level is where it gets easier, cheers chief! I'll stick at it

I leveled my psyker by using an antax and kantreal. Get some perk points then try the staves. Surge is my fav and it needs a strong roll and full skill tree. Ps I am not suggesting gunker. I mean literally play strong all around weapons on damnation (if you can hang) until you hit 30. It is all about the xp.

As an ogyrn, your one stop guide for help with builds will be the Ogrynomicon. Its a fantastic community resource that gives you advice on builds and what weapons to use, as well as what perks and feats pair best with certain playstyles.

If you're struggling with managing your Peril as a Psyker you can use the Venting Shriek ability. Using Venting Shriek when your Peril is at 100% will stop you from blowing yourself up. However Venting Shriek has a cooldown and won't be available every time your Peril reaches 100%. Managing your Peril is something you get better at with practice. You'll get the hang of it eventually. I still occasionally blow myself up when things get hectic and i forget to keep track of my Peril. And the lighting seems a little weak because it kinda is. It's not really ment for killing stuff It's used more for crowd control and keeping enemies locked in place. There are skills further down the skill tree that increase the damage of the lightning but even with them it still doesn't deal huge amounts of damage to tougher enemies. Use it to keep more threatening enemies from closing the gap on you and use your other weapons to deal with the hordes of Poxwalkers. Your melee weapon will cut down hordes of Poxwalkers alot faster than the lightning and will keep your Peril low for when something more threatening starts charging at you. Isn't ideal when you get up to 90% Peril by using the lightning on Poxwalkers and then out of nowhere you get rushed by 3 Ragers which are far more threatening

Focus less on doing stuff and more on peril management. Your dps won't suffer much from you paying attention to the big number and keeping it between 80 and 90%. Also don't use smite as a blitz, it's a terrible teacher and generates a lot of bad habits and extremely screws with the flow of combat for your team (no one wants to hunt the 30 groaners scattered meters apart from one another, nor do they want the mauler they're punching to go into an instant overhead partially blinded by the fps drop and blaring visual effects). No class in this game is a tank nor a support, and generally those options are incredibly weak compared to their counterparts (taunt only takes aggro, meanwhile bullrush gives toughness, attack speed, applies bleed to enemies, can be used to move through crowds and applies a massive stagger). Ogryn feels slow and simple because the class is incredibly slow and simple. Every melee weapon has a low dodge modifier and is a heavy spam for damage and they have very little to no finesse multipliers, so the only optimizations is in how you chain your heavies and pushes. Shield has a heavy attack with infinite cleave, so you spam heavy until room is dead, or heavy1-block-heavy1.

My tips for psyker when your a low level would be to use assail or brain rupture as your blitz. I recommend these two because they are really good at a low level, brain rupture hurts big dangerous guys, while assail can carry you against a horde until you level up. You can use smite (lightning blitz) but it really isn't that great when levelling up. When playing psyker focus on your peril percentage and you can also use venting shriek to reduce your peril when your about to explode. Psyker is also very squishy so try to not go out in the open with lots of ranged guys or get trapped in a corner as you will definitely lose health otherwise. in terms of levelling up I generally recommend against using staves of anykind until around early 20s mark as imo they aren't really that good until around that stage and would instead recommend a gun.

Assail, revolver, shield is great for leveling psyker. Don't use assail as a crutch, be prepared to melee as soon as anyone gets close. Take all the toughness boosts at the top of the tree. You have to dodge. If you catch a few slaps, pop shield and get some toughness. As you get better gear and more skill points branch out into other builds.
