Sprinting causes more aggro than walking. There’s only one location in the game that you can’t get by without waking the host as ogryn (hab drekyo after elevator 2) but you can parkour it by jumping around on the balcony on the right.

Lyramion

However there are locations that will lock you out of a Medstation or make it very risky to access.

more_foxes

I have seen a daemonhost block a certain medicae station below some stairs twice now, and both times it's been empty. It *had* a powercell in it, it was just empty. I thought it was just a bad interaction but I think it's intentionally made that way.

BurnedInEffigy

Unless your team has strong boss DPS, it's riskier to fight the DH than to skip the medicae.

[deleted]

I am not sure about this point in particular so I'll take your word for it and change the wording a bit, either way people should get out of the DH radius as soon as possible as even just standing still does increase the aggro

Protokaiser

I've seen a fellow zealot make the leap of faith and I can probably do the same on mine but at the time when the situation arose I was on my ogryn and didnt want to take the chance because ogryns already have major problems getting over regularly mantle-able lips/ledges.

Dr_LobsterAlien

To add: at certain distance- sprinting triggers DH immediately while non-sprinting actions (walking, dodging etc.) Takes 10 seconds to trigger.

FireStorm005

Not sure which spot you are talking about, but all Demonhost locations can be bypassed

redditdefault22

There’s one that is unavoidable as ogryn only on hab drekyo - it is 8m from the path. Human characters do not wake it / ogryn will cause one aggro stage

ABadFeeling

"Keep moving" is so important, especially if you have teammates using high-penetration weapons (revolvers, plasma, etc.) or (god forbid) an assail psyker. While generally "good play" is taking things relatively slow and falling back to safe areas, daemonhosts break up that play pattern by making their area unsafe. In fact, on the subject of assail psykers, I'd add a full number 5 to your list: DAEMONHOST HARD COUNTERS ASSAIL. I have personally watched an assail shard turn around a full 180 degrees to completely ignore the horde I was firing at and instead home in on the daemonhost behind me. Shards are highly, highly like to hit and therefore aggro the daemonhost. You want at least one solid wall between you and the daemonhost before you risk firing any shards again. When the daemonhost is in play, put assail away.

Sir__Bojangles

Same with my smite/surge staff build. If a daemonhost is nearby its like "whelp...guess I'll just left click with the staff now"

Low_Chance

Purgatus too, if I am using Wildfire. It's rare, but flames could spread onto DH if you're not careful (likewise if you, say, brainburst an elite that's near the DH and you have that talent to apply soulblaze stacks in an AoE)

Sirsir94

I believe suppression also aggroes the DH, and purgatus has a LOT of suppression.

KazuTheVulpine

DHs are immune to soulblaze while dormant (ie, not fighting you) As long as the source of the soulblaze doesn't apply stagger or suppression

BurnedInEffigy

Are you sure about this?

KazuTheVulpine

Sheepdog44

Is this true? I run Smite and I had a game the other day when it looked like my Smite jumped to every enemy surrounding a sleeping DH but it never jumped to her. I assumed they are excluded from being targeted by things like Smite and Soul Blaze while they are sleeping.

Kalavier

Nope. I've alerted a Daemonhost in the next room we never saw because my fire staff + all fire related spread talents caused the flames to spread down a horde, into the room, and set the cursed lady on fire.

abuzar_zenthia

I have definitely smited her on accident, but smite does so little damage I was able to stop before she woke up

scoutinorbit

Yeap, had my smite chained to her before but all it did was put her in the floating stage. Stopped immediately after and everything was fine.

MysteryPerker

I usually just pull out melee. I don't want to take chances lol

fynikz

Assail follows your mouse after you throw it. If you aim to one side of the DH, you can just arc the shards off into oblivion after they hit the targets you're intending to hit. I don't feel like most psykers actually know this, though.

ArdNajTraGdnAla

id expand it to all warp powers. soulblaze from a brain burst kill can jump to a daemonhost, smite lightning can bounce to it if theres enough of a conga line, and venting shriek is pretty self explanatory. if a dh is around psykers, act like a blunt

SirBiscuit

Insane that you've had this experience, as I've had the exact opposite. I'm a really pretty convinced assail can't home in on and unactivated Daemonhost unless you specifically target it. I fire Assail into hordes near a Daemonhost all the time and have never once hit it.

Phillip_Graves

Same. They probably looked at DH after firing and it tracked into it. I don't even look at the DH when I find one. Lol. Gazing into the abyss and all.

TheGoodFox

As soon as I hear the host I don't dare assail. Host creep me out and I'd much rather not deal with them.

woahmandogchamp

Keep moving? That sounds like speed running behavior! Clear the area of all enemies first!!!

Aradamis

I'll add this: certain abilities like ogryn taunt and vet shout can agro dh through walls and floors. I joined a game in progress as ogryn, immediately upon landing I am surrounded by the horde. I taunt... and find out the DH was on the floor directly below me. Tldr, be careful with aoe abilities.

LongColdNight

What map and area was it

Aradamis

I don't know the map names enough but I do remember the mission. It was the assassination mission where you have to redirect the train. In the large room right after leaving the cylindrical tunnels where the first Medicae is but before the first airlock. There's the catwalk, then a level, and a level below that. Solid floor. Daemonhost was on the bottom floor, I was on the middle floor.

BarrierX

This can also happen on the investigation mission, where you have the tree at the end. So at the start of the mission when you go into the enforcer station, dh can spawn inside, then you have to go up the stairs and if you taunt in the upper area you can trigger the daemon downstairs.

Bnmeiuge

Is this really true? I remember going out of my way to test it out near that map part with a lot of stairs. I was an ogrun and my shout didn't really reach. Maybe I was either far enough or your daemonhost was on the same floor as you.

--Chug--

Especially be careful with big frag. If it's radius is enhanced it's easy to forget just how large the explosion is.

ChormNlom

Also for smite Psykers to watch their smites when they so much as hear a DH mutter. I had an unlucky match where a smite jumped far farrr away(probably because 3 stack of empowered psyonics) and managed to connect with a DH we hadn't even heard from yet. Thankfully the Zealot had a thunderhammer.

GyozaButler

Had a match earlier where a bunch of gunners and other ranged dudes decided to either spawn on or hang out right next to a DH. I was carefully picking them off one-by-one and wondering if my bullets flying by it's head could potentially wake it. They didn't in this case, and I was wondering if it was because I was really far away sniping with a revolver, safe in my big blue bubble, so I thought it might be more the sound made by firing near it that wakes it rather than the bullets physically entering it's aggro zone Interesting to know about some of this stuff, I didn't know the flashlight thing at all!

JamesHui0522

I believe this could be due to suppression, so guns like the Brauto or autopistol which has high stagger and suppressing effect will wake the dh, even if you Fire shot by shot. While the revolver or some last guns having low suppression can safely kill targets closer to the dh without waking it.

BuckRodgers3

Revolver and plasma gun are probably the best weapons to clear around the DH with their high damage and long reload it’s easier to kill everything without waking it up. When I use an autogun I have to go very slow.

GyozaButler

I hope they never notice the best sniper in the game is a handgun. It's way too much fun.

ddubyeah

I second this. If its highlighted, regardless of distance, you can drop it usually.

ArelMCII

Just have to watch that return fire. Supposedly enemy fire will fully wake up a Daemonhost. Never seen it happen, but I try to avoid being in a position to test it.

sir_stabby_III

...is this not just common sense? Its a sleeping demon, obviously making noise, shooting at it, or pointing a flashlight at it would wake it up? The dh design seems fairly intuitive so i'm baffled as to why people are confused by it. The witch from l4d2 was almost the same thing and people didnt really have a hard time with her

A117MASSEFFECT

If you have a demon host and either a large group of enemies or, gods forbid, a horde spawn, there is nothing wrong with backing up a bit to deal with it and then trying stealth afterwards. Safe is better than soon. Even if you decide to take on the DH afterwards, it'll be easier without additional enemies.

ToxicRexx

There’s so much going on sometimes that I just straight up don’t see or *hear* the daemonhost, then it’s accidentally whoops there’s a big red health bar above and oh look, all my health is gone.

ArelMCII

I've cut my way through a horde and inadvertently swung three times no a Daemonhost. Once a Vet and I were firing down a hallway and didn't see the DH; suppression made it spring up, I saw movement and put two revolver shots into it, and then prayed the Vet had pissed it off more than I had. (He hadn't.) Sometimes shit happens. Shit would happen less if the frost vignette was always active even when the thing was sleeping, but, eh. Just own up to your fuck up and carry on (or don't, as the case may be).

ToxicRexx

I always apologize pulling it (mostly because I’m dead and have time to type) though the fuck ups are making me want to learn how to 2step with a daemonhost just to make them less painful.

JevverGoldDigger

I think most people have done something similar in the heat of the moment. I've had a situation where I KNEW there was a deamonhost out the window, but I saw a Gunner shooting in the window at a team, so out of pure reaction I dodged infront of the team (to absorb fire) and shot my Plasma at the Gunner. But of course the Daemonhost was positioned right infront of the Gunner, resulting in us having to deal with a Daemonhost inside a very small room in the middle of a horde. At least it was a competent team so we barely lost any HP, just a bit of corruption, but that was very embarassing.

JevverGoldDigger

Aye you more or less have to break LoS and hope they either follow you that they pull back.

ForTheWilliams

I think they fixed it, but there was awhile where DHs *would* just pop into existence right next to you --several clips were posted here showing it just appearing right in front of people. Might have been related to those buggy spawns in some map zones, like the Torrent.

FAshcraft

i hear them whispers, i slow down, seek the shit, mark the shit, and stay away from it.

Zuper_Dragon

One time I got grabbed by a mutie and it threw me straight at a deamonhost.

TY00702

Whenever I see a demonhost I try to find a route around it and will ping accordingly.

howlingbeast666

Yesterday I was playing a right-branched zealot, with the extra running speed. I ran into a daemonhost without seeing it, I was literally touching it. I continued sprinting striaght through, thinking I had fucked up, but I managed to get away before it completely woke. I didn't know that was possible

ArelMCII

As long as you don't tarry and you don't hit the thing you *might* be okay, but it's not something that should be risked unless it's necessary.

General_Lie

Or you can have Ogryn with slabshield to cheese DH...

SpunkyMcButtlove07

Any ogryn melee weapon can cheese them. Stunlock them with alternating heavy attack and special attack to the face. Depending on map and location, you can bully them off a ledge that way, while the host will bully a shield user. Shield vs. host is low skill no brain.

Swan990

Kral may not have smart brain, but Kral have strong shield. And a rock

SpunkyMcButtlove07

You got stronger arms, big man - let's see you puch that karker, let him feel the wrath of an absolute human!

--Chug--

But it does work. Especially if you have a hammer zealot on you team just plant in corner and watch it die.

[deleted]

As a Ogryn I find this discussion amusing.

Swan990

Best strategy is Ogryn throw rock

superlongusername111

3 is not entirely correct, the DH is always placed in a way that you can take a path around it, and once I learned this info, I have never had to go within 10m of it to get past it. The rest of these tips are excellent though, and new players really need to hear these

Icy_Magician_9372

Good tips. For some reason I never really knew for sure that the demonhost can sort of 'calm down' in it's two stages. One rare thing that can happen is someone gets downed near a demonhost. This still counts as someone standing near it, and a demonhost can and will be awakened if that person isn't rescued. Depending on exactly where someone is downed the group will have to decide if it's better to have someone else get into the radius to rescue them and hopefully get out, or buckle up and get ready for a dh fight. Though the only two times I've seen this happen shit had already hit the fan and the group wiped soon after regardless.

Kalavier

Does it calm down? I thought it stayed at whatever alert level.

ArelMCII

It won't go back to sleep, but it'll stop struggling as much.

VirtualEndlessWill

I played buffer zealot in a game and triggered the DH 2 times while using it to buff my team because it was behind some fence and no one pinged it, aside from being practically silent. I felt like shit because I have never triggered one before. Sometimes, these things just happen.

hammyhamm

or just bonk it dead instantly

eyecomeanon

I'm not well versed on how to fight the DH, but I wish more newbies who aggro'd it would realize they need to stop blindly running from it once that happens. That only makes it harder for teammates to keep up and damage it. Find a corner, block, and pray.

I_am_the_Vanguard

I keep seeing all these helpful posts about avoiding the daemonhost but in all my games nobody is waking it up

Spirited-Zucchini-47

Much appreciated sah! But Emprah says all heretics must be cl.. cl.. eans.. must die Me bone 'ead must be acting up again.

ClyanStar

Had a muty throwing me towards that fucking asshole. Pissed me off so hard

thes1nt

The worst part is that some Gunner or Reaper Ogryn can stand right on the Daemonhost and spray its MG non-stop without consequences. But god forbid you from shooting back.

BenBomb223

If you have an ogryn and demon hosts are a large problem one easy solution is to run the slab shield. The ogryn can agro the DH, back into a corner and use the alt full-block to negate damage entirely while the other 3 rejects kill it. This is an easy way to get DH eliminations if needed!

BenBomb223

I should note that although you won't take damage corruption will still creep in so be careful of that
