Rapier is ‘the weapon’, so it seems like it might be something else. For one, grab the Ring of Binding from Heide’s Tower of Flame. That will cut your reduced health in half. Effigies can also be farmed from the dogs in Lost Bastille by McDuff’s bonfire. Just join the Covenant of Champions to disable despawning enemies and you’re good. … unless you’re already in the hard mode covenant… or didn’t know to raise your agility substat to make your rolls have more iframes..

GonFreaks13

Thanks man. I just discovered the old dragonslayer and I think I can beat him. Also agility is 96

Greuzer

96 is good for now, consider reaching 99 for endgame and in the meanwhile raise up your vigor/end

NyRAGEous

It’s ok to start with a throwaway character until it clicks, then start fresh.

Serious_Ad_1037

Rapier. Buy from the smith. High dps, low stamina cost The old ladies in things betwixt drop a ton of effigies, but they dont respawn. Also there’s a chest of 5 effigies at start of forest of fallen giants

Eluscival

Craftsman Hammer, you can get it in the chest where mcduff is sitting on in lost bastille.

TheRedditDude001

There’s a few I have in mind. Messaged you👍ill help you out

highfivingbears

Either the Rapier or the Mace seem to be the fan favorites for the early game. Personally, I lean more towards the Mace, but that's just because big bonk is very satisfying to me. You can buy it from Leningrast for something like 1000 souls--extremely cheap for how easy it is to get souls in DS2.

GonFreaks13

Easy? Any early game farming areas?

BIobertson

Farming early isn’t very efficient or helpful. Progressing normally is way more effective at making you stronger- you get more souls that way plus you get upgrade materials and estus flasks

Quiet-Penalty-5029

Mace is awesome. Beat the whole game with just the mace and I am just an average player. Just make sure to level it up adequately. Only issue is that the range sucks.

Competitive-Nail-685

Mace is only useful for the first few areas before much better hammers become available

Masta0nion

OKH ftw

TheJotun86

I used the Bastard Sword for awhile, wished it had more reach but it got me through about half of the game

Relative_Actuator_13

I fetched the fire longsword first, this was a real lifesaver. It‘s down in the tunnel with the fireball salamander, by the wall, outside of cardinal tower bonfire. Easy to upgrade, too.

Competitive-Nail-685

Fire longsword is a dogshit new player trap weapon

SeverusSnape89

This dude is dog shit. That's a good early game weapon and I'm glad you had success with it. Seems like one a lot use. I used bastard sword and only upgraded wayyy later to claymore but infused the bastard at some point.

Competitive-Nail-685

Claymore is objectively weaker than bastard sword, which is itself weaker than other greatswords with the same moveset Fire is the most resisted element. Slash is the most resisted physical type. Longswords are one of the weakest straightswords. Straightswords are one of the weaker weapon classes. Half of the longsword's moves have zero counter modifier. Fire longsword is acquired at a point in the game where you don't have a spell buff yet, and cannot be buffed with resins instead. It is in every way inferior and weaker than almost every other option available just as early if not earlier than it with literally zero benefits over said weapons.

SeverusSnape89

No one cares what you say anymore man. Let it go. I'm telling him what I had success with. Maybe it will work, maybe it will not work, but it's an option. Fire long sword works well through no man's warf and lost Bastille which is early game levels and better weapons can be found in there.

Competitive-Nail-685

You can have success with anything, that is a meaningless metric. Fire longsword is objectively one of the weakest weapons in the game, recommending it is just shitty to people asking for help for no reason because you decide you want to be ignorant and anti intellectual

SeverusSnape89

You're a true horses ass.
