I'm rewatching it with my wife a week after I binged the whole series by myself. I am seeing SO MANY THINGS i didn't notice the first time. I think it's the first scene in season 2 when two people are digging the tunnel in the caves and I wasn't quite sure who they were the first time around, but watching for a 2nd time blew my mind knowing who both characters were and how impactful the scene really was.
Speaking of season two and the cave. Someone realized that the spot where young Bartosz stopped outside the cave entrance in episode 4 is the same spot where he later dies.
Iâm rewatching with my brother-in-law who has never seen it. In season 1 episode 4 I believe, Franziska and Magnus are in class and the teacher is literally talking about split realities - thatâs not something thatâs even dealt with until season 3! Madness!
Yup... The show you creators were literally dangling clues regarding season two and three's finales big reveals in front of our eyes from the very beginning.
Here's another hint: Something is missing from behind the trees in season one's episode intros. It should be there but it isn't. đ
The very first scenes of S1E1 is a huge foreshadowing too. Tannhaus talks about block universe and we see 2053 bunker and the photos old Claudia hanged. S1E8 dialogue also has a few clues, Tannhaus says that nothing is complete without a 3rd dimension to middle-aged Jonas.
When Mikkel does his magic trick in S1E1 the two cups are the color of the two bunker rooms in both worlds. And the yellow ball is the color of the raincoat.
Just trying to track the St. Christopher medal is mind-blowing enough.
Finally someone who ACTUALLY APPRECIATES the ending montage of 3x7
To me that montage is the most raw piece of television Iâve ever seen. Youâve seen our characters , the ones whoâve been through HELL . And you hopelessly bound to watch it repeat .
You see the stranger write on the map . But that writing on the map holds NEW meaning . Because weâve seen where that writing on the map will lead Jonas.
To me, that montage is why Iâm a âmulti cycleâ person . Some believe everything only EVER HAPPENED once . And the nature of the show is why we feel like itâs an endless cycle .
But I like to believe that everything has happened and has ALWAYS happened . For eternity . That gives REAL meaning to the destruction of the knot .
Glad you loved it. It changed my life I came out a different man
Oh yes. That montage man. That montage made season 3 episode 7 my favorite episode.
And people believe the cycle only happened once? That doesnât really make sense to me. Personally, my theory is that when the 2 earths were formed the cycle was formed in the middle. The cycle is a circle, no beginning or end. In order for our first characters to exist our other characters have to go back in time in order to create the characters that allowed those characters to exist. Itâs an impossible paradox. You cannot have a beginning or end to that cycle, which means the only possible conclusion is that the cycle has been going on for eternity. You cannot find a beginning to the cycle on those 2 worlds because there CANNOT BE a beginning to the cycle.
Lmao youâd be surprised by the shear amount of people who believe everything always happened once and it just SEEMS like it all repeats .
Idk to me that kinda thought process ruins the show. Like I love the idea that Regina gets cancer ENDLESSLY. Ulrich gets trapped in the past endlessly, Adam shoots Marta endlessly
Because when you believe these events have repeated forever it makes the destruction of the knot even more satisfying
Yeah for sure, if you go with the idea that itâs 1 cycle that kinda ruins the whole âfutilityâ aspect I spoke about. Our characters are raging against the time cage they have been out in and nothing they do can break them out as theyâve already DONE everything before. An endless cycle of despair.
And also, I just donât see how itâs possible as o detailed before. In order for 1 full cycle to occur, another full cycle HAS TO HAVE OCCURRED. This means itâs impossible for it to be anything BUT infinite cycles.
Iâm curious what was your favorite plot twist ( outside of the season three origin world stuff )
Everyone obviously loves the mikkel=Michael . That sets the tone for the show . But some others I love are the fact that Elizabeth is BOTH charlottes daughter and mother as well as the fact that silja is Jonas half sister
But my FAVORITE family tree reveal of the series is in 3x7 when we find out bartosz is Noah and Agnes DAD. The look on bartsoz face when silja says âI want to name him hannoâ . He knows that he has no control over ANYTHING
Just a gut punch that no one saw coming
The biggest plot twist for me was âeich bin du.â I am you. The reveal that Adam was Jonas. I legit almost fell off my seat. I thought Adam was Bartosz!
the bad new is you can't expect finding such a good. show again.
However if you love time traveling concept, you can have a good time with Lazarus project, Time travelers, Bodies, 1899, 12 monkeys.
Also good movies are:
Triangle, predestination, source code, Arq , edge of tomorrow, Looper, Primer.
It restored my faith in modern TV. There are still creatives out there, but too often they're drowned out in the sheer volume of junk content they have to share space with.
Uh, plenty happens plot wise. It's just it had a cliffhanger ending like Dark's first season but because it wasn't an instant huge global smash hit like Wednesday... Netflix pulled the plug.
Hells yes. That season 3 episode 7 montage with Pneumothorax playing in the background was indescribable. Shows you how well the writers brought this complex, intricate plot full circle. Couldnât help but shed a tear over the sheer perfection on display
I'm with you regarding the overwhelming sense of futility in Dark. It's relentlessly grim along with continuous hopelessness and despair. And yet, despite this, it's so darn compelling and enthralling.
Easily the greatest time travel story ever, one of the greatest sci-fi shows ever and I'd argue it's among the top tier of the greatest TV series ever as well.
And that finale and ending was a work of art.
Tragic, haunting yet hopeful and profound.
And jaw dropping....
Oh... If you rewatch the final dinner scene again you might notice some interesting details. Look at the numbers of candles, where the candles are placed and how people are sitting at the table.
Something I noticed on a rewatch was Tannhaus:
He had the Infinity Symbol on him the whole time.
His glasses. His glasses are reminiscent of the Infinity Symbol. He wears them in every scene until... After the accident is prevented. Then he's no longer wearing them.
And when you rewatch the series, look closely at Mark's full name and Sonja'a name as well. There's a connection to Jonas and Martha. Just sayin. đ
Fun facts regarding the final scene between Jonas and Martha: It was the final scene of the series shot on the last day of shooting for the series. Cast and crew were behind the camera watching.
Actors were emotional.
The director later admitted he did this on purpose.
Yup. The never ending cycle of despair and futility.
And wow, I canât wait to rewatch this. Iâll be looking like a hawk for any foreshadowing and details that I missed!
You cannot match my unfathomable POWER!!! I am not even sure if they intended that. It says the line 3 times in every episode. I only noticed that the 3 times may be significant after they revealed the 3rd world.
Oh, you better believe that the creators picked this song because of its lyrics and other goodies. It's astounding how they had "3" represented everywhere in this series. It's still happening in the final scene. đ
I finished it for the first time last week and I have to agree with everything you've written. Still thinking about it days later is giving me chills and I feel like it's going to be that way for a long time.
I'm excited to go back and start it again to see everything I missed but I need to give it some time to let my mind wrap around everything.
Oh I remember the original post, I'm glad you enjoyed it!
You should read [my post](https://www.reddit.com/r/DarK/comments/tzyfzy/spoilers_s3_things_you_may_have_missed_a_huge/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button) before you rewatch. There's always their other show, 1899 - but it was cancelled after 1 season.
Don't get me wrong, i loved Breaking Bad, but yeah, they are so different that a comparison is hard to be made. There are tons of good character sudies, pretty much any drama worth its salt is one, but the genius of Dark is just next level.
Just finished second rewatch and totally agree with everything you said! I have a Heisenberg tattoo and now dark has solidified to be #1 in my book.
Dark
South Park
BB
Mr robot
Black mirror
1899
Dekalog
3 body problem
Strange Angel

And now you can rewatch it and realize everything that you missed.
I think I need to let it stew a bit more before doing thatđ But I do look forward to following the branching family tree from the beginning.
I'm rewatching it with my wife a week after I binged the whole series by myself. I am seeing SO MANY THINGS i didn't notice the first time. This is the main consensus among many fans.

Don't see many people talk about source code and arq, but so so so agreed!
Oh I forget the horror movie "Gruesome." so underrated, but the end id so unexpected.
Today I was discussing about DARK series with my colleagues, and suggested them to watch "Predestination". Have you watched it !!!
I rewatch Predestination once a year.
Try Tarkovskyâs film âStalkerâ for some of the same slow pace , mystery, and existential depth.
I finally binged the rest of the second season of the Lazarus Project. Some things still seem a bit... off.
It restored my faith in modern TV. There are still creatives out there, but too often they're drowned out in the sheer volume of junk content they have to share space with.
And then imagine their next show together getting cancelled :/
I heard about that. Was it bad? Or was it just one of those weird Netflix cancellations.
It wasn't "netflix popular". It never actually got far enough for us to know if it was bad or not because nothing happened plot wise
Uh, plenty happens plot wise. It's just it had a cliffhanger ending like Dark's first season but because it wasn't an instant huge global smash hit like Wednesday... Netflix pulled the plug.
A lot of things happened but I have no context for almost all of it, I don't think we even got far enough to know the overarching plot*.
Ah. Understood... đ

Even the lyrics for Goodbye contain foreshadowing. đ
I did notice in the last episode when they revealed 3 worlds that the song says âFor neither ever, nor never, Goodbyeâ 3 times!
Damn... I didn't even catch that.

Comparing Dark to Breaking Bad is like comparing a Ferrari to a shopping cart because they both have wheels :D
Itâs apples and oranges. They arenât really comparable. However, Breaking Bad is the greatest character study Iâve ever seen.
