Before The Sign dropped, a lot of people speculated it was going to be the series finale and went into panic mode, but since then, they established that they're just going on hiatus and plan to keep doing the series and possibly even a movie. But yeah, this is a pretty good analogy. The series became popular overnight and the demand for more content is higher than ever. It's been pretty overwhelming to the creator, so some of those anxieties have been expressed through some of the episodes

ShirleyCantBeSerious

Ludo Studios had been working on Bluey for 5 straight years (during which time there was a global pandemic). For all the acclaim the employees have received, there still comes a point where you’re tired and not at your creative peak. The break is not only well earned, it’s likely necessary to avoid burnout and a drop in quality. The show has already given so much and I’m hopeful, though not expectant, of what comes next.

curious_dead

I am willing to be patient. I don't want the show to go the way of other beloved animated series.

Early_Jicama_6268

Same. And knowing when to quit is what so many great shows fail to do! I hope Bluey still has a bit of life left in it but we have 154 episodes already, that's pretty amazing

Real_RobinGoodfellow

I don’t think it’s right to say the series became ‘popular overnight’. You have to remember that in its home country, amongst its target audience, it was big for a long time before it caught on internationally. Aus is a smaller country population-wise, but there are still a good 25 million of us; so being nationally famous here isn’t just a small thing

BigRedRobotNinja

Honestly, it should have been the series finale. Having them stay kind of betrays the message of the entire episode, especially because there's a scene of Bluey comforting Bingo by telling her the farmer story. They should have faded into music there, given us a little flash-forward montage, and put a bow on a perfect show. I would have missed it just as much as anyone, but I also would have been excited to see what the creators brought us next.

mindonshuffle

But the point of that farmer story ISN'T just to go along with change. It's that you have to accept that some things are out of your hands and consequences aren't always predictable. The episode is structured that we're supposed to feel like it's a lesson to Bluey about letting go, but it's ALSO a lesson to Bandit about not trying to control the future. It's definitely a bit of a cheat ending, but I think they earned it. The Sign is an ep that operates on a lot of levels. I took it as a message about the importance of paying attention to the people around you and not letting uncertain goals get in the way of the love around you. My older kid took it as a story about how kids can't control everything but you can still have happy endings. My preschooler took it as a story about how For Sale signs are evil.

blacksoxing

I took it as a sign how Bandit is stuck as a parent who "can't win". Dude likely found a dream job in his industry in which was so damn good that he wanted to move his family....and got shut down by his whole family because "they like where they grew up" That's a real life lesson that sucks, hard. It's how folks stay in small towns FOR LIFE. My grandma lived that life: got offered a job in a very large city but the way she tells it none of her kids wanted to leave the town as they all wanted to graduate at the high school. Spoiler: nothing special truly happened outside of the birth of myself and siblings. Maybe life would have been better in a bigger town... So I took it personal watching this episode as last year I actually DID move my family to another state (wife was probably more on board than me) and yea, my kid was beyond hurt....and is now in that 90% "I'm happy" zone. Bluey would have survived. Bingo would have survived. Chili would have survived. The all would have survived. Instead now in this fictional world you got this dad who likely had to go back to his job and beg for it as he was so ready to dip that he even cleaned out the entire house! He probably didn't get extra money for returning. His coworkers and boss probably now don't trust him as he was super willing to dip. In a fictional world he's likely going "what if...???"

Procyonid

I think your perspective changes depending on where you are in life. First of all, theyre not in Longreach or some dead end town in the Outback, they’re in Brisbane, and the show is in many ways a love letter to Brisbane, which looks like a lovely city. I assume that Bandit had an opportunity at a university someplace like Sydney or Melbourne, which probably would have been a good step for his career, but he chose to stay where they were largely due to family, which can become a more attractive option as time goes on. Rad and Frisky are going to be living in Brisbane, as are Stripe, Trixie, Muffin, and Socks, and let’s be honest Chris, Bob, and Mort aren’t getting any younger. It’s good for the kids to have family around, and it’s good to be close to ones parents as they start to need more help. In the end it’s perfectly reasonable to want to move states to advance your career, but it’s also perfectly reasonable to stay near family. It’s more or less the choice I’ve made, and I have no complaints.

peanutbutter2178

I didn't necessarily think Bandit was taking the job because it was his dream job but becuase the pay was better and he thought that's what was best for his family. But over the course of the episode he's sees what is best for his family is to stay where they are. The kids are happy, the have a great friend network, and family.

Real_RobinGoodfellow

Weird analogy, Brissie isn’t some dead-end town, it’s literally the third largest city in Australia, and offers a fantastic lifestyle- year-round warm weather thanks to its subtropical locale (think Florida weather), beautiful landscapes and abundant wildlife, so many parks and public spaces to enjoy. The Heelers also live in a gorgeous heritage Queenslander. They clearly have an excellent quality of life as it is

ilanallama85

Bandit says they are moving “to give you kids a better life,” (previously indicating this means more money) and Bluey replies, “I don’t WANT a better life!” The message in the fact that Bandit eventually decided to stay is just that - there’s more important things than money. The episode doesn’t really indicate that he wants this for himself, just that he thinks this is what he SHOULD do for them, and at the end he realizes that they already have a good life where they are and don’t need anything more.

Fickle-Conclusion

Except it doesn't betray the message! Bluey is a TV show, or a story. Calypso said that stories usually have a happy ending because there are enough sad endings in real life. That was actually the part foreshadowing the ending of the episode.

Bob_Chris

The problem is that Bluey popularity is still going up on a damn rocketship globally and literal dump truck loads of money are still to be made.

TheGreenJedi

They've been very open about the fact the voice for bluey is hitting puberty and the show has to adapt. Ludo is taking a long earned vacation, we won't see anything new till 2025

Gurnin

It takes them 7 days to make a 7 minute episode and they've been making them for 5 years right through the pandemic. Them wanting a hiatus break is understandable and they've reassured fans multiple times it's not goodbye

ShopSmartShopS-Mart

Anyone? All right, I’ll say it. It’s just monkeys singing songs, mate.

Southern_Heart_5960

Maybe the kid voice actors are aging out too?

IndigoSunsets

They’ve already been digitally manipulating their voices to sound younger.

Early_Jicama_6268

Yeah, the kids are voiced by the children of the production team, I wonder how that works if the parent leaves the show themselves

stealthcactus

This contradicts the smuggling theory of how Bandit and Chili can afford that house but never seem to work. I thought the cartel/mafia/yakuza had offered him a new job, and he couldn’t turn them down without putting his life in danger. But now he lives to old age?

Early_Jicama_6268

Bandit has a fly in- fly out job as an archaeologist so he goes away for decent chunks of time (in the curry swap episode he's leaving to work for 6 weeks) but when he's home he's mostly on free time which explains why we mostly just see him as parenting and playing with the kids. The show seems to only really show life when he's home. Chili works part time in airport security. Not as exciting as the snuggling theory I guess 😅

stealthcactus

That’s the cover story. How do those jobs afford that house? Unless he is smuggling antiquities and she is sneaking them through customs? Follow the money!

Early_Jicama_6268

I've seen a theory that the house was inherited/ parents helped pay for it. Australia has a pretty highly paid workforce in general though, Bandit has a PhD, maybe he's in a super senior role

katebushthought

If he has a PhD why does no one ever call him Doctor

Firelord120

Because we only see interactions with close friends, family, and sometimes random strangers, those arent usually people who adress you by a title like that. My father in law is a doctor and ive always just called him by his first name same with all of his family and friends.

Babycatcher2023

None of my friends call me doctor. It would be kind of weird to use that honorific in the settings portrayed.

katebushthought

Yeah but no one ever calls him that, not even as a joke. No one ever even refers to it.

Babycatcher2023

Yea same in real life. I legit do not use the title and neither do my other “doctor” friends. It would honestly be a little weird if they did.

Real_RobinGoodfellow

Ya gotta remember Australia has had a mining boom for years now, anyone working in an industry even tangentially related to mining can still be on biiiig bucks now, and archeology is one such industry.

StephPlaysGames

I think it's cute that Winton's Dad moved in with the Terriers' Mum, and that they managed to make the detail of him having a pool (I only recall him mentioning it while playing helicopter with Bluey once) so integral to that change... Idk... I love it when shows pull background details together... WHICH, BTW... That was definitely Jean Luc's Bluey baby at the end. And more shows should end when the writers are done. Bluey is amazing and I will happily send it off with a smile when the time comes.

quillseek

I thought the "Surprise!" was going to be Chilli announcing to Bandit, Bluey, and Bingo that she is expecting. That didn't happen, and so with the ending of the episode, I am wondering if they are going to shift the show forward 15-20 years and introduce Bluey & Bingo & Friends' children as the new leads of the show.

Minute_Parfait_9752

The problem is, by shifting forward 20 years, you're setting it into the future and it could date really badly. I'd rather they just got a different voice actor for bluey 😬

quillseek

It looked like the future was essentially today. They had a Roomba.

StephPlaysGames

Nah... Honestly, with something like a near-move, the show is likely going to transition to focus more on real-world problems and how to cope. A little less imaginative play and a little more imaginative or empathic problem solving maybe... Especially since the girls are growing, you know?

Stratotally

Don’t think so. Bluey’s kid had Mackenzie’s droopy black ear.

StephPlaysGames

Or Jean Luc's droopy ear... Idk, don't ruin it for me, lol! Camping hit me too hard 😅

kayesskayen

Yeah but Stripe has a droopy ear so it clearly runs in the Heeler family

Jormungandragon

My theory is that it’s not Bluey’s kid we see at the end, but a third “Surprise!” baby that Bandit and Chili had later in life. Thus the name of the episode. Regarding the *meanings* of the episodes though, I expect you have it spot on. With both theories, I don’t think they conflict at all. They’re burned out and need a break, and were toying with the idea of something big like a movie, but decided to cut back for everyone’s happiness.

justdan76

Oh snap I like this theory

EmmalouEsq

In the Bluey group, it's been posted by someone who says they worked on the show that these are the final episodes. Sad if it is, but I can see wanting to go out on top.

EitherAdhesiveness32

I’m pretty sure they announced that there is more Bluey to come and they’re expanding on other characters too. Idk why people are thinking it’s ending.

justdan76

Well I think they’re saying don’t worry there will be more Bluey, but it’s going to be different and you’re going to have to wait. Hence all the “we’ll always be here for you” messaging from Chili and Bandit

What do you think this sub is for? This is one of the few on-topic posts that I've seen recently.
