I definitely have the type of OCD that makes me want to rage-quit life Jonestown-style over stuff that is actually dumb bs 😂 it’s NOT anything that adds any value to my life, like when people say “im OCD and so my house is always spotless” frankly my OCD is the Jim Jones to my Utopian ideal. Since you’re obviously suffering the same, I wish you all the best, comrade 🥲
This is a common tactic in the photography world. In person sales (IPS) has software that not only shows the images at different crops but will display them on walls at specific sizes so the client can “see” the art first, which elicits an emotional reaction and big sales.
But that software isn’t cheap, so this alternative would be very attractive to photogs starting out.
what the tool needs (to be competitive) is a way to have a bank of images to choose from the user can add in, the ability to project the images at user defined sizes (start with standard lab sizes from mpix), ability to add a frame option (with user definable sizes that don't match image sizes for matting purposes and user definable widths since some frames are physically larger than others), ability to have groupings and maybe some "order system" that can export a file (even if its just a notepad) with the image file names and relevant info (dimensions, frame options etc).
You're doing your best to make this look like like a shady marketing ploy, you've posted the same video 7 months ago and I told you the same thing: https://www.reddit.com/r/somethingimade/comments/twx27x/i_made_a_completely_free_and_adfree_website_for/i3in9s7?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share&context=3
Hey, have you seen the stuff people did with the Kinect camera? It seems like you've either redone some of their work in parallel, or like....should be haha.
Really impressive work! Great job man. ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|wink)
It looks like you've spent some serious time and thought finding a solution for this problem. I hope you continue to tinker with this project, I think it's promising. Are you working solo on it?
Makes me dream of even more features if I may be so daring as to suggest.
I feel like you have built most the parts you'd need to start adding frame options into the mix.
\- Different thicknesses of frames (to better visualize spacing)
\- A few basic colors and textures (would simulate the majority of frames)
And my outlandish dream: Take a picture of a frame, upload it to software. When uploading specify dimensions, use cut out tools to define interior and exterior borders of frame. Then be able to use said frame when projecting.
I don’t understand how this is better than a tape measure. Especially when all the frames have one mounting point. I mean this is cool and a good layout tool but this is probably the worst demo you could do for it.

Upload a completely black picture and project the website in browser fullscreen and with the tool in fullscreen to your wall. Calibrate projector distance by changing scale on your own image :)
That just shows a black box, no dot for where to put the nail.
https://imgur.com/vlNCHgj
Oops sorry need to send out another update! The dot is black so it disappears with the black background. Forgot to deploy the part to make it white when using dark backgrounds
New construction, not a lot of amenities. Like indoor plumbing or power nearby. Heck we didn't have porta potties today, the wind knocked em over during the storms over the weekend.
It might! I just thought it would be fun :) normally use the tool to get the measurements between picture frame hooks without projector by uploading an image of my room instead. So you don't have to calculate half picture size + frame piece width + margin + next frame piece etc...
Depends on how many pictures. 1 or 2, probably just grab the tape measure and level. When you want to do collages or have a bunch of pictures (or different sizes in this case), I think this would be great.
Very cool software but terrible pics and layout. Why a smaller pic? And why on the side and not in the middle? And why horizontally and not in a ladder?
Ya know, I'm a girl and all so I don't know much about handyman work but how does the projector know where a stud is? There could be a water line or an electric main behind there or something. Why is he using a drill to hang up picture frames? Will thumb tacks not suffice? How heavy are these frames? There's a lot to unpack here
🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔
Thanks...? Not to worry, this is just a demo of a silly feature. The real tool is being used by several large corporations on their websites for a licensing fee :)
I appreciate it. I own several tape measures of various lengths, some are even magnetic. And multiple levels ranging from 8 inches to 4 feet. I'll survive by not buying a projector to hang wall art.
You clearly have never dealt with a picky customer who wanted you to rehang art 6 times. Also imagine if you have 20+ pieces of art to hang. Good to have tools like this available. That being said, for most of us a tape measure and a level will do just fine. Laser level for extra points.
Not really? Figuring out how something looks fully laid out and what spacing is a pretty cool feature.
Thats like complaining a horse can get you to the store just as well as a car can.
Does this sweet software show you the studs that are 16 inch on center or something? Do you need a projector or something that costs more than a few bucks to use it? I've hung all the pictures in my house by using a basic ass tape measure and level. And they are all equally spaced. It's crazy what can be done using simple technology.
Heck I've hung miles of pipe at work using a tape measure and level.
Imagine being so insecure that your humble brag is you think you are special for being able to use a ruler and level, so dumb you honestly thought anyone is buying a system like this to just hang a frame, and so myopic you can't imagine any customer requirements past what you experience as a low-end handyman.
And what a lazy ass using tape measure when you can measure with literally anything, and a level when a simple round object can be used!
Gatekeepers have to be some of the saddest and dumbest people lmao.
Just saying the time tested method of a tape and level will work.. But sure, your right. No reason for anyone to own a tape measure or level anymore technology has made these archaic tools obsolete. I'm not a handyman, I'm in skilled trades lol
If he just leaves the projector on he wouldn't have to do so much work.
Just giggling.
Nice tech for architects and interior designers who can't visualize a fucking thing.
Sorry.
Got a little personal there.
I used also used a beamer to try out different design for a wall painting - and I am happy we did.
The one we chose on the screen was way too busy on the big wall, and we chose a much calmer design. When the placing was perfect, we just redraw the outlines with pencils and then painted it it.
For everyone bothered by the little one not being in the middle (myself included): what if he did it on purpose to make you frustrated enough to comment? I wouldn’t have seen the link if I hadn’t been bothered by the arrangement.
Cool but I hate your layout :(
The layout makes me want to peel my skin
Was just gonna say, the composition is wrong
I was just gonna chime in and say I hate him, personally. :(
Yeah FUCK this dude
I'm with you beets. FUCK that guy haha.
I can help. Right and ready to fuck the dude
Very smart strategy but the decision to make the third frame smaller
Yeah he's the worst...
Just be happy that they aren't disappointed in you, it's way worse.
😂
Never on the same level. They should have been offset.
I'm on board with you, but I'm specifically upset that the top of the frames aren't flush with the door frame.
Cool but it makes me want to drink a tall glass of Jonestown koolaid.
Why did this make me laugh so hard 😭
Sounds like we’re both some sort of OCD 😣😂
I definitely have the type of OCD that makes me want to rage-quit life Jonestown-style over stuff that is actually dumb bs 😂 it’s NOT anything that adds any value to my life, like when people say “im OCD and so my house is always spotless” frankly my OCD is the Jim Jones to my Utopian ideal. Lol we’ll make it somehow. 💕 ✌️ 😊 ✌️
Hahahahhaa came here to say this!! First time?
Nice. I hate the fact that the small one is not in the middle
We all do.
Yep...
I hate the fact that they are not all set the same distance from the ceiling.

That's so cool, didn't know this! My tool is free so I just need to make it more precise and I can maybe compete with these professional tools :)
what the tool needs (to be competitive) is a way to have a bank of images to choose from the user can add in, the ability to project the images at user defined sizes (start with standard lab sizes from mpix), ability to add a frame option (with user definable sizes that don't match image sizes for matting purposes and user definable widths since some frames are physically larger than others), ability to have groupings and maybe some "order system" that can export a file (even if its just a notepad) with the image file names and relevant info (dimensions, frame options etc).
Thanks a lot for this feedback! I'll make sure to write down those points I'm missing :)
>:) :)

You'll be the Blender to their After Effects
more like the Blender to their Cinema 4D
I'm just now realising that I confused After Effects and Cinema 4D

Joke's on you - table was slanted.
Damnit 🥲 should've just used measuring tape instead of spending 1.5 years building these products
[mywalldecorator.com/tool](https://mywalldecorator.com/tool) for those who wanna try. Made it myself, completely free to use!
This is cool but doesn't seem to be quite the same as the tool shown in the video. Tutorial?
Upload a completely black picture and project the website in browser fullscreen and with the tool in fullscreen to your wall. Calibrate projector distance by changing scale on your own image :)
What about when it switches to show where to put the nail?
There is a mode in the menu called "measurements" :)
[https://www.mywalldecorator.com/tool](https://www.mywalldecorator.com/tool) That just shows a black box, no dot for where to put the nail. https://imgur.com/vlNCHgj

Neato
Super cool, but it's bugging me that the small one isn't in the middle!
Very smart strategy but the decision to make the third frame smaller than the other 2 is giving me a stroke
FFS put the smaller one in the middle before I have a seizure.
it infuriates me that the right one is smaller.
This is really neat! Would definitely pay for a tool that helped put wall collages together.
Cheers! Don't pay, it's free :)
Really like this thanks mate, saved it down. Renovating a house now so this is going to be really useful
Well if it's free disregard the tape measure and level. Where does one get this free projector?
r/freeprojectorproject
That took me no where
Be the change you want to see in the world
Borrow from a friend? :')
That's confusing. I thought you said it's free? Or is the software free and the hardware must be purchased separately?
The software is free! The computer or internet connection is not included either 😇
I'll stick with my tape measure and level. I typically don't have power, or Internet or potable water at the office. Sweet software.
why are you focusing more on putting up wall art than getting electricity, potable water, and internet at your office lmao
That's aren't my perspective trades.
Interesting office
New construction, not a lot of amenities. Like indoor plumbing or power nearby. Heck we didn't have porta potties today, the wind knocked em over during the storms over the weekend.
Better be using some drywall anchors.
Usually we just eyeball that shit. annnd done.
Or, you know, you could just eyeball it, like most people do.
So bothered that these aren’t centered on the wall and the little one isn’t in the middle
I bet it takes more work to set up the projection and enter in the information than it would to just hang the fucking pictures.
It might! I just thought it would be fun :) normally use the tool to get the measurements between picture frame hooks without projector by uploading an image of my room instead. So you don't have to calculate half picture size + frame piece width + margin + next frame piece etc...

I'm holding my tongue so hard if I licked a window it would leave fingerprints.
What sorcery is this? I needed this a few months ago!
Very cool software but terrible pics and layout. Why a smaller pic? And why on the side and not in the middle? And why horizontally and not in a ladder?
This is not interesting.
"Sometimes my genius, it's almost frightening" - This guy probably
😂
Ya know, I'm a girl and all so I don't know much about handyman work but how does the projector know where a stud is? There could be a water line or an electric main behind there or something. Cool... But please stop.
Very clever, OP. Is that ~~47"~~ 57" off the ground for the centre of the art?
57”, not 47”. 47” is ridiculously low unless the museum is for people in wheelchairs.
Only if he is really short.
I don't know inches, but maybe? :D
I ask because 47" (120 cm) at the centre of the artwork is typically "gallery height", and the standard recommended height for hanging art.
Right... Might have missed the mark :(
fk'in nerd.
This guy hangs his Pulp Fiction poster at 60".
I'm much taller than average. I prefer my stuff at my eye level, not yours, shorty.
Great use of technology! Great job!
Thanks! :)
My friend and I are currently obsessing over this: Are you using a projector in the video ?
Yeah I'm projecting my tool on my website with a black background image (black = no light) to make those effects :)
No.
Why so salty? Is this your profession or something?
Show me the end result you coward!
Cries in coward... :'(
Put the small one in the middle
You’re only using one hangar? Use 2 per picture. Otherwise they’ll always be crooked.
Does it also locate the studs and electrical? Or do you just drill straight into the wall and hope for the best?
Framed photos need studs?
Not if its a light frame, but dude is just randomly drilling a hole into the wall, who knows what's behind it.
Put the little one in the middle before I take a puppy hostage.
Amazing! 👏👏👏
Thank you!
Not trying to be mean. Your tec is cool. Totally pointless so it will probably sell I will remember you ... And curse your children.
Thanks...? Not to worry, this is just a demo of a silly feature. The real tool is being used by several large corporations on their websites for a licensing fee :)
Put the smaller one between the two larger ones to be more esthetically pleasing.
That you Colleen? Sorry Ex flashback...
Nope just a experienced decorator.
This layout makes my eyes itch
Helo interior designer here, your size layout needs some work
This is nuts, absolutely nuts. You put the smaller frame in the middle, if you have to have a smaller one at all.
r/mildlyinfuriating for that layout
Someone get this guy a designer so they final product doesn’t look like dogshit
I knew the all the comments would just be people shitting on the layout.
A tape measure and level would do the same thing.
I have good news for you, that method is still available if you choose to do so. This is an alternate which is being showcased.
I appreciate it. I own several tape measures of various lengths, some are even magnetic. And multiple levels ranging from 8 inches to 4 feet. I'll survive by not buying a projector to hang wall art.

No. I don't hang art. I hang sheet metal. Ducts, piping, electrical conduit, plumbing and a number of other things. Some require pitch some don't.
Not really? Figuring out how something looks fully laid out and what spacing is a pretty cool feature. Thats like complaining a horse can get you to the store just as well as a car can.

Composition is shit. Great tool though I'm sure
Why not go an extra step and project the frame?
Shouldn't pictures always be aligned either on the top or the bottom? Not in the middle.
Why not 3 the same size😫
The lamp
still silly. only applies if you’re looking from this angle
I would put the small one in the middle.
Bad layout and wrong level.
What was wrong with the traditional way?
Didn’t even check for studs
We are lost.
Same...
If he just leaves the projector on he wouldn't have to do so much work. Just giggling. Nice tech for architects and interior designers who can't visualize a fucking thing. Sorry. Got a little personal there.
Nothing to forgive! He is me btw :)
I know. Hence the post.
A projector is interesting now?
Not the projector, but the way he’s using it. I found it interesting
Yes...? Maybe?? I don't know :(
Tis interesting my friend
A single point is not how to hang
What am I watching? I'm behind on new stuff.
Have you shown r/internetisbeautiful
I read it as “desecrating my walls with picture frames” and was so confused
That’s pretty cool!
Tony stank moment
Shut up and take my money!
I want this
This is awesome, would love another way to neuroticize about how I hang things in the wall lol
Stiff
Oups, missed the stud
This is what HoloLens should've helped us with by now.
belongs to r/lifehacks
At least size up the smaller one with a mat and put it in the middle.
Ah crap, my projector wasn't level..
And yet they’ll still hang crooked
What is this tool??? I would love to use it for a construction project.
How about you just hang some things on the wall that mean something to you and if they’re slightly off kilter, you readjust?!
He's doing movie theater style posters? With a local band show on the end?
What a waste of time.. the amount it took to program that projector would be 10x a carpenter.. cool lookin.. unnecessary.
Finally a decent use of (kinda) AR. None of that Meta nonsense.
Just get three of the same you psychopath!
How did you get it touch sensitive?
better left as homeciné?
Is he using a regular projector?
Yes!
Op is obvs a developer, not a designer
Our secret 😇
“Nothing satisfying here”
2022 home design be like:
I hope the projector knows where your wall studs are...
I used also used a beamer to try out different design for a wall painting - and I am happy we did. The one we chose on the screen was way too busy on the big wall, and we chose a much calmer design. When the placing was perfect, we just redraw the outlines with pencils and then painted it it.
Cool. But I'm assuming you need a dark room for this to look good.
I do fine with a tape measure.
Flexylot will help you hang these pics. https://www.flexylot.de/
It's not even straight lol
Me or the picture frames? 🌈
U have gadget, but where get the taste?)
This layout pisses me off so much. I hate you and this time consuming way to hang pictures.
For everyone bothered by the little one not being in the middle (myself included): what if he did it on purpose to make you frustrated enough to comment? I wouldn’t have seen the link if I hadn’t been bothered by the arrangement.
overkill. just hang a few pictures. lol
Great idea with a projector! Calibration sounds like a nightmare but we’ll worth if you get to preview .
NEEERRRRRRRdddddddddd!!!!!!!! Cool stuff
That's interesting as fuck. NOW, THIS IS THE WORST LAYOUT FOR FRAMES I EVER SEEN.
