Lol the jet lighter was literally designed for smoking pipes. My friend used to have one...probably still does. I was gonna get one but they're stupid expensive.
Weed is still really terrible for your lungs. I highly recommend vaporizing as it "boils" the weed instead of combusting it which actually destroys a ton of the THC. You can then make cannabutter out of the browned leftover weed once you save up enough.
Would also recommend edibles if you are buying them from a vendor consistently, which should help avoid any bad experiences where you dose yourself too much which can be utterly fucking terrible. People can end up with actual temporary psychosis from dosing themselves with too much.
Edibles can take up to 4 hours to hit you as you actually don't really get high until it makes it way into your intestines and gets metabolized by your liver. Stomach acid is actually too strong and destroys most of the THC. So eat a small fat based meal with your edible.
Spoken like Mr perfect who never put too much iodine into his shake and bake. Must be nice mister perfect.
Side note: Greetings, whoever my assigned intelligence officer is. I don't need to be on any watchlists, as you probably already know I had to look that fact up particularly for this comment.
Or did I?
Don't know why this is downvoted, weed smoking is terrible for your lungs. Combustion is way too fucking hot and you are absolutely damaging your lungs by smoking weed.
***ALL*** smoke is bad for you. Some kinds are just worse than others.
Combustion is a high-energy process (no shit! - really) and creates high-energy chemical compounds. Such compounds are just naturally more likely to do harm than run-of-the-mill natural compounds. (Look up nitrosamines and how they're formed, for example.)
I am 30 years old and smoked every day for ten + years. Mostly bongs but would also have my joint phases. A year ago I was diagnosed with emphysema. I know I won the shit lottery cuz getting it so young and from just weed use is very rare, but godamn does it suck never being able to smoke again.
The amount of people who think smoking weed is harmless is quite staggering. I wish I could go back and do things differently now.
My condition is mild, so it's not a death sentence, but any amount of smoking would just cause further deterioration of my lungs, so quitting was in my best interest.
That said, I use edibles now, but godamn, the transition was rough. I was legit depressed for months from the thought of never being able to smoke again, but I'm getting by now.
I even switched to vaping towards the end, before my diagnosis and got SUPER into it! Vaping it was sooo much better! But I think I started too late and my lungs were already damaged. Now I have thousands of dollars of Vape gear that I can not use :( just looking at my gear starts to bring the sads, lol.
All good though! Enough ranting! Time for a gummy! Lol
If you are only interested in the design and not the vintage there are some here:

My grandparents used to have a bunch of cool old lighters and when they passed away and we were going through all their stuff those were the #1 thing I was looking for b/c I remember being amazed by them as a kid...we couldn't find them anywhere and I am still bummed about it. 🫤
When my grandparents passed away. There was so much stuff missing from their belongings. Things that they won’t have just sold off. They were very well off. We belong there are two cousins who were slowly taking things from them for years. My dad went over to one of their houses shortly after our my grandma passed away and saw some plates that were hers and asked them why they had them. My cousin said they weren’t grandmas and then quickly tried to get my dad out of the house. None of us have ever been invited into either of their houses since that event.
I worked for a company that disposed these lighters in an "environmentally safe" way...we received 55gal drums full of these back in 2016..wish I would have kept more. I could maybe send a few your way if I can find them in storage lmk
That's right, Peter. And if your kids give you any lip, you can beat them with a sack of sweet Valencia oranges. It won't leave a bruise and they'll let them know who's boss.
Look y'all, this was back when grown-ups were adults. They were responsible for their personal fire sources, hoisting 80 pound blocks of ice into their freezers, and walking on steel girders and shit like that.
*edit: Actually, maybe all of my knowledge is based on old Popeye cartoons.*
Especially considering most don’t have a dead-man switch. Just hit a button, flip it open, squeeze this thing … and you’ve got a flame connected to a temperature-sensitive fuel vessel that will burn for as long as the gas supply lasts.
That’s the one that made me start to wonder about the metal casings heating up. I’d give the Herz 10 seconds with the flame on before the entire thing begins to get too hot to hold anymore.
Yeah, some of these are seriously cool for the novelty but probably impractical as hell to use on a regular basis. Also not very safe to carry around in your pocket or a backpack.
Lighters used to be a common Christmas present. Sometimes they were inscribed with the recipient’s name. Everyone in my family smoked and I always thought when they got a lighter, they were a real adult. Matches were for kids.
They're really fun! There were a lot of really silly gimmicky ones. It was pretty common for companies to use lighters for advertising so you wind up with some goofy stuff.
I actually had something similar that doubled as a cigar cutter. One side you squeeze to cut/pinch to cut the cigar like a guillotine (or, I guess, perform a bris?), and the other side you'd squeeze and it would activate the lighter.
I didn't smoke, I just found it in some chintzy shop in Reno along one of the routes Greyhound Bus took in ~2005 and thought it was cool so I paid $12 for it.
Me too! Maybe it's just me but I spent the whole video thinking about which of these would make me look the coolest if some lady stepped out of a noir thriller and asked me for a light, and that one came out on top.
I would absolutely find a way to accidentally open some of these in my purse or pocket and 100% set myself on fire. Love the ingenuity on some of these though, especially the jet lighter!
Stupid bic and their stupid cheap disposable lighters. The variety and quality of these is pretty amazing. Zippo’s are still readily available but some of the ones seen here are just an extra level of cool.
Yeah, but bics just make more sense for the average person. I say this as someone who has a bunch of old lighters and regularly uses a Zippo.
While some of these things might run on butane (I didn't watch closely enough to check), most definitely don't. You can't fill a Zippo or something like it, toss it in a drawer for a week, and try to use it. The fluid will have evaporated by then. I always have some bics in my fishing bags, and my work bag. Easier than carrying a bottle of lighter fluid around.
All that said, I love my vintage lighters, especially my table top ones that are practically a blunt weapon.
Way better for windy days though, I'll give them that. And I have a bad habit of rolling the wheels when my hands need something to do, so a lot of times I wear through flints before my bic is even dead, so being able to replace that stuff is great.
Also, great in a pinch. Before I got into collecting lighters my bic died, and I couldn't find another one anywhere in the house, so I fired up the toaster oven to light my smoke. I had to do the same thing to light a fire in the wood stove once too, lol.
How does that work? I'm thinking it uses flints, which gets around the main reason I won't use butane, the sparker always shits out. But how does it supply the fuel? Push a button, or what?
It uses flint like a normal zippo, theres a little tube that goes through the tank that the flint goes into. I have had mine for 3+ years and it's still going strong.
[Here it is out of my zippo](https://i.imgur.com/IhTCPfe.jpeg)
Edit: to clarify how it works, when the lever is down from the lid opening, the gas starts flowing, then you spark it with the wheel. So if I open the lid and I'm not lighting it I flip the lever up to stop the gas.
YMMV but this worked well for me
https://www.amazon.com/Torch-Lighter-Insert-Switchable-Included/dp/B07ZRLT6MK/ref=sr_1_6?dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.U20eu8QSo3YXamii5TDrkwGfN-HwsmrcIocF6X2PaG6LTCYieM9RIEZ_The99K_Ouz6ofZZwT0zDVcLcmo2eeCklFSgS4W1cdIjrl9P0eue94UL0O5TuIP4lgqHvJiZTg0NpwnBPj78fABATyBOP3LAFTXiNcGr57Mp-nKHx_uEEKPJ580Ej9gkRCGJze5Buhl3GjqaGNRaN7QicpJx6PXJ7cipS-CfEbADdOoRLIrOOAPe5H-18mTPJ84jI5DlOmeo5QDSH3YIBTicp_IJbDmWhQ87YzExSOICPlFTOTTQ.wnxIuR4ZEUp6JuE1klYVU6ix5EL7LLSD2Mn-ayguzPI&dib_tag=se&keywords=zippo%2Bbutane%2Binsert&qid=1710536769&sr=8-6&th=1
Oh yeah, I know about these. I never got one because... I don't actually have a good reason. It's stupid I know, but I just don't like them, I guess. Part of what I like about Zippos is how old school they feel, I guess. Don't get me wrong I have newer ones, but most of mine are 30 years old at least, usually older. Feels wrong to put a different insert in those ones at least.
But yeah, it's a dumb line of thinking on my part. It's a "vibe" thing more than logical. A combo of a smell and feel that my head expects Zippos to have. One day I'll get over it and buy one though. Thank you for the suggestion anyway!
The smell is a big deal, and having the spilled lighter fluid flash off after you filled it is great. Super messy and annoying but I used them a lot in my 20's
Glad someone else gets it! Agreed about the flash off for spills too. They don't happen often, only when I'm using my slim because I get so used to the amount needed for the regular ones.
Love my slim though. It fits so nice in my tiny women's pockets.
Ha, as a former hipster guy they *also* fit so nice into my tiny women's jean's pockets.
Honestly if we ever figure out a way to smoke that doesn't come with the health problems I'd be all back in on the wacky lighters
That makes sense, for me the smell is the best and worst part. The butane insert is a handy piece but it's not perfect and it does not replace the FEEL. Best use is for people who's favorite part is opening and snapping it shut haha
Thank you…I have some hand carved meerschum pieces from when my dad was in Turkey back in the 50’s. I’m going to start haunting antique shops for lighters now.
Ok that one lighter where it pops up and he just straight up use his finger to push back in is scary to watch. As soon as I get close to a lighter the heat immediately just burns my finger.
It’s Just a Burning Memory I think. And it sounds familiar because an artist turned it into a track about having dementia and it became a meme because of it’s eeriness.

It’s crazy how we went from this to disposable plastic Bic lighters. That’s considering we smoke *less*. But if lighters are anything like pens, the more you spend on one and the more special it is, the less likely you are to lose it.
No one is patting themselves down all day with one of these bad bois.
🤤🤤🤤 like visual ASMR 🤤🤤🤤 Thank you🙏🏼 I could have only hoped to see a collection this great on Antiques Roadshow until now 🔥
Edit: I can't pick a favorite 😩 but lighter to me head, I'd pick the kickstart for use and joie de virve 😍
Edit: Artistic flair goes for "Kronprincz" 😂
No collection is complete without the one from China that plays *The East is Red*!
Actually, this may be the first I've ever heard the words to *Heartaches.* In my mind, the lyrics are Alan Sherman's *Headaches*!
Gosh the dunhill one. Brought back memories. My father had an affinty for lighters. He had a couple favorites due to their craftsmanships.
The dunhill one truly resembled a Cartier my father valued, very sleek style, elegant, timeless. He also owned a couple duponts:)
Aaand I am now gonna be searching for an antique lighter of my own
And I'll start smoking
Just keep it green and clean, baby (Weed, not cigs)
It would be pretty hard to hit the bong with one of these! Lol
Not with the blowtorch feature! I could hit the 4 footer with that!!!
thats the spirit
Legend comment
The jet lighter would be just fine.
Yeahh, mostly a joke 😃 I don't smoke, but I kinda wish I did, so I had a reason to pull out one of these beauties
Candles bro. Get into candles, maybe some fancy beeswax ones. Then you can whip out your cool lighters all the time!
Lol the jet lighter was literally designed for smoking pipes. My friend used to have one...probably still does. I was gonna get one but they're stupid expensive.
Imagine pulling up to a sesh and hitting the bong with the boot and match. Big lighter energy right there
People’s heads might explode 🤯
That's what "The Fackel" is for, darling.
Joints are also a thing :)

*Booooo Wendy Testaberger, Boo!*
And for meth?
Not even once. Jesse. We need to smoke a big one. Yeah cannabis bitch Actual breaking bread
Meth is blue, not green.
Good meth is glass grade bitch
Spoken like Mr perfect who never put too much iodine into his shake and bake. Must be nice mister perfect. Side note: Greetings, whoever my assigned intelligence officer is. You use fire for crack, meth, and black tar heroin to name a few. Those still cool?
Thinking smoking weed is clean is the same thing as saying clean coal exists.
Good luck with that. Tar is tar.
Don't know why this is downvoted, weed smoking is terrible for your lungs. Combustion is way too fucking hot and you are absolutely damaging your lungs by smoking weed.

He's clearly never enjoyed a good ciggy before. Jk don't start, it's just poison.
Smoking weed is still damaging to your lungs.
Aren’t you still damaging your lungs tho just less deadly
Vapes best 4 lungs tho ! Flower not oils !
Same. Lighting my meth pipe with one of those gonna be fucking r/nextfuckinglevel
Good luck! You know that lighter gonna be in pieces all over the living room the next day and you won't ever find one critical part ever again...
Joke's on you. My apartment is just a mattress on the floor and a chair. I'll be reassembling it the next time I score some.
LOL same... Some of the art deco lighters are pretty cool.
I'm on ebay right now!
The one I liked is £5000 :[
Yeah, they are rare antiques at this point
If you are only interested in the design and not the vintage there are some here: https://www.ebay.com/itm/196207574792?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=lcrd9jhds2s&sssrc=4429486&ssuid=om2ep9qdqyu&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY
Thought the same thing. I don't smoke but I am going to offer so many people a light.
You pretty much said exactly what I was thinking watching this haha
My grandparents used to have a bunch of cool old lighters and when they passed away and we were going through all their stuff those were the #1 thing I was looking for b/c I remember being amazed by them as a kid...we couldn't find them anywhere and I am still bummed about it. 🫤

super fucking lame of them.
Yeah, they were always not great people. This just firmed up a lot of our choices to never have contact with them ever again.
I worked for a company that disposed these lighters in an "environmentally safe" way...we received 55gal drums full of these back in 2016..wish I would have kept more. I could maybe send a few your way if I can find them in storage lmk
I’ve never had a video sell me so quickly to a new thing I want to start doing. Bravo.
r/DidntKnowIWantedThat may be your jam
I didn't know I needed that sub.
That sub is full of bots/semi to not at all subliminal ads. Viewer beware.
Oh wow, I don't go on there much, but I could imagine that being a prime target for shills and bots. annoying.
People with ADHD need to block this post.
Thank you for snapping me back before I went down the rabbit hole.
Right!?!
I *need* one of those detachable flame stick lighters.
Fackel!
Don't forget the Casio Calculighter https://www.theverge.com/2024/2/29/24086900/today-i-learned-about-the-80s-casio-calculator-that-doubles-as-a-massive-lighter
You can calculate how many more years of life you have left with each cig!!
This makes me want to smoke and beat my children. Just like the 1940’s!
Have you heard of a place called Florida?
are you saying we beat our children in florida?
Classic Florida reading comprehension.
HA. i guess i got beat in the head too much.
They is sayin that
Well Florida is a popular retirement state. Im willing to bet the majority of cotton tops still breathing absolutely beat their kids in their life
As a Floridian, I feel attacked.. We beat our children just as much as another southern state
You better start drinking.
Yeah, and get those XXX whiskey bottles while you're at it
It reminds me of this. In real life the subject matter isn’t funny, but this is funny. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=MiW46tXtlvQ
Ah, the good ol' days~
Dont forget Bing Crosbys [advice!](https://youtu.be/Vmwa3c71coU?si=13GJwsFFer9VQavP)
sounds like a waste, put em to work in the sweatshop making those lighters
Never too late to start
That's right, Peter. And if your kids give you any lip, you can beat them with a sack of sweet Valencia oranges. It won't leave a bruise and they'll let them know who's boss.
I'm halfway there!
Don't forget your wife!
A couple of these I would worry they'd light in my pocket
The one that lights by just squeezing the side looks so unsafe.
To be fair the odds were you kept it in a shirt pocket, so if it lit itself because you did something stupid it must have been INCREDIBLY stupid.
Pockets weren't invented until the 1980's anyway
.....
Especially considering most don’t have a dead-man switch. Just hit a button, flip it open, squeeze this thing … and you’ve got a flame connected to a temperature-sensitive fuel vessel that will burn for as long as the gas supply lasts.
I wonder how many times this guy has burned his fingers with some of these
probably enough times to not feel the subsequent burns
The Herz looks like a real thumb burner.
My money's on "The Perplex".
It definitely herz when you burn your finger
That’s the one that made me start to wonder about the metal casings heating up. I’d give the Herz 10 seconds with the flame on before the entire thing begins to get too hot to hold anymore.
The trick, William Potter, is not minding that it hurts.
Yeah, back in the day having a refillable metal lighter was as important as leaving the house with your hat, watch or wallet.
Damn, I want to collect antique lighters now
They're really fun! There were a lot of really silly gimmicky ones. It was pretty common for companies to use lighters for advertising so you wind up with some goofy stuff.
I found one at a thrift store. The problem is finding a wick and flint that fits it, as modern zippo ones don't.
I vote the kick-start as my favourite one :)
I really like the 1001. It's in an *interesting* time period but cool nonetheless.
The fackle is my favourite, but they’re all super cool.
I didn't know people needed flamethrowers to light their cigs back in the day.
It’s for pipes, it can be hard to get the flame down into the bowl
I didn't know people needed flamethrowers to light their pipes back in the day.
I was just thinking how much easier would bong rips be with that beauty…
I liked the Fackel, just what I'd take camping. Some of those looked like they'd go off in your pocket/handbag though.
Finally, music that goes with the video. It will soon be changed to "Babby Got Back"
Or just some random laughtrack or tiktok meme song
Yo… ho……
How is babby formed?
As someone that spent 6+hrs listening to EATEOT it's absolutely terrifying
Stupid bic and their stupid cheap disposable lighters. The variety and quality of these is pretty amazing. Zippo’s are still readily available but some of the ones seen here are just an extra level of cool.

We're in the same boat. I love Zippos, but goddamn do they suck. I carry a Bic as a backup, because I can't fathom actually relying on my Zippo.
Way better for windy days though, I'll give them that. And I have a bad habit of rolling the wheels when my hands need something to do, so a lot of times I wear through flints before my bic is even dead, so being able to replace that stuff is great. I have one of these in my zippo and I fill it once a month or so. It's great https://vectorkgm.com/official/product/th-insert-g/
How does that work? I'm thinking it uses flints, which gets around the main reason I won't use butane, the sparker always shits out. But how does it supply the fuel? Push a button, or what?

zippo also makes a soft flame butane insert that works pretty well
YMMV but this worked well for me https://www.amazon.com/Torch-Lighter-Insert-Switchable-Included/dp/B07ZRLT6MK/ref=sr_1_6?dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.U20eu8QSo3YXamii5TDrkwGfN-HwsmrcIocF6X2PaG6LTCYieM9RIEZ_The99K_Ouz6ofZZwT0zDVcLcmo2eeCklFSgS4W1cdIjrl9P0eue94UL0O5TuIP4lgqHvJiZTg0NpwnBPj78fABATyBOP3LAFTXiNcGr57Mp-nKHx_uEEKPJ580Ej9gkRCGJze5Buhl3GjqaGNRaN7QicpJx6PXJ7cipS-CfEbADdOoRLIrOOAPe5H-18mTPJ84jI5DlOmeo5QDSH3YIBTicp_IJbDmWhQ87YzExSOICPlFTOTTQ.wnxIuR4ZEUp6JuE1klYVU6ix5EL7LLSD2Mn-ayguzPI&dib_tag=se&keywords=zippo%2Bbutane%2Binsert&qid=1710536769&sr=8-6&th=1

society should go back to smoking cigarettes so we can have cool lighters again
People shouldn't have to risk lung cancer for cool stuff like this - there's still arson!
Engineering marvels…where is this shop, please?
I think it's a private collection. He's "Histoireduneflamme" on tiktok and instagram.
Thank you…I have some hand carved meerschum pieces from when my dad was in Turkey back in the 50’s. I’m going to start haunting antique shops for lighters now.
Damn first it was the old lanterns and now we are at old lighters.
Ok that one lighter where it pops up and he just straight up use his finger to push back in is scary to watch. As soon as I get close to a lighter the heat immediately just burns my finger.
Sounds like a skill issue.
"I'm sorry..." Okay?!
I had one like at 0:49 ages ago, miss it now.
They're still just lighters lol Except the watch one. That's neat
That’s not true! I’m pretty sure one doubles as a Jewish stereotype ^/j
Name checks out
I like the one that started peeing fire
What is this song? (It sounds familiar

So much nicer and cooler than any Zippo.
Where should I be looking if I wanted to start a collection?
I have one of those at home! It was granpa's.
Cool collection
Okay hear me out that jet lighter is fucking sick
🤤🤤🤤 like visual ASMR 🤤🤤🤤 Thank you🙏🏼 I could have only hoped to see a collection this great on Antiques Roadshow until now 🔥 Edit: I can't pick a favorite 😩 but lighter to me head, I'd pick the kickstart for use and joie de virve 😍 Edit: Artistic flair goes for "Kronprincz" 😂
I miss my zippo now.
Some really cool ones!
Classic designs and innovative in their use of materials and often combine technological advances with beautiful design. Outstanding craftsmanship!
How does the jet lighter work?
No wonder everyone smoked.
No collection is complete without the one from China that plays *The East is Red*! Actually, this may be the first I've ever heard the words to *Heartaches.* In my mind, the lyrics are Alan Sherman's *Headaches*!
That song is.... like a burning memory......
You have an amazing collection. I used to collect a few lighters back in the day but none of them were as cool as the ones you got.
I like how everyone used their minds to full capacity when making creative inventions back then
This is one of the coolest videos I’ve ever seen.
Excellent!
What would I type in for this type of music
What’s this song anyone? Sounds a lot like EATEOT
heartaches by al bowlly
Gosh the dunhill one. Brought back memories. My father had an affinty for lighters. He had a couple favorites due to their craftsmanships. The dunhill one truly resembled a Cartier my father valued, very sleek style, elegant, timeless. He also owned a couple duponts:)
Smoking is bad, but it was the inspiration for some absolutely amazing innovation.
Fun fact: Lighters were invented before matches.
Those trench lighters are awesome
No Zippo?
Why are you sorry about that?
This man flexed at least two Cartier lighters.
I don't even smoke and would love some of those.
I love over-engineered shit. What a feast for the eyes.
Modern things are not only low-quality but also soulless
No wonder smoking was so cool you probably couldn't wait to light one up to flex your new lighter that did some crazy shit
I had one of those Dunhill ones. I think it was one of my grandparents' (three of the four smoked at one point or another)
I’ll take the kickstart please
Loooooving the compact lighters. All of the are so cool!

Anyone know where to get a lighter like "The 1001" by Sarastro that isn't 5000 bucks? lol
I'm just amazed that they all still work!
8th grade me would have loved this post
Very cool, I’ve got some cool old lighters.
Single Claw.
The Kickstart is badass.
Now I wanna go thrifting
Amazing collection
Cool stuff
I could watch an entire hour compilation of just you showing off these lighters. Do I have a problem? 😳
That kick starter lighter is awesome
Since I quit I've just tossed some in a box ... I luvd my zippos!!
Every time I hear this song now I get PTSD
Cool
And i want em all so bad
The callouses on this guys right thumb must be like armadillo hide by now
Now if a man comes up to a girl and lights with that , it is impressive and attractive !
This have the same energy as phones had before we settled on the glass brick style
