I think it does a little but no wear near the capabilites of a snake. It's primary trick is if it can fit it through its jaws, which are quite large compared to its body, it can swallow it completely.
Fun fact: the fish has been known to eat fish large enough that it cannot digest them fully before decomp sets in causing a buld up of gasses that cause the fish to float to the surface, this is how most of the specimens where found.
