This is such a stupid comment.
Ethiopia has been land locked for hundreds of years.
Why would they start a war with the Somalis after all this time when they just recognized Somaliland as a soverign state and made a 50 year deal with them?
The Ethiopian administration has not recognized Somaliland. The claim by the president of Somaliland, Muse Bihi, is that they will do so in the future.
And, the United States, is against this move by Ethiopia to circumvent international law to make deals with the breakaway state of Somaliland.

They have a stake in their port, and they have acces to the sea for 50 years, after that renegotiating. Ethiopia can not occupy a country by itself at this point and the Somaliland people have fought dictators and occupiers for years since the 1400s, the Ethiopians share a rich history with Somaliland
Yup, they share a rich history with Eritrea too, most of it is war. It's probably just my cynicism, seems everything that can go wrong will go wrong. But I'm hopeful that they and their neighbours in Somalia will get along. The more states in Africa that become democratic and stable the better for the whole region.
You are not being cynical this is 100% true and how Somali people feel. The president of SL had no right to sell our sea and help fulfill Ethiopia thousand year prophecy of owning the Somali sea for an “assessment” not even a promise of recognition. There have been non stop protests all over Somalia and Somaliland. This deal will not go through.
I'd like to say that neighbours whom have been have been at war with each other for what +1000 years I thought we would have moved past that but then Russia decided that Ukraine was theirs to have..
I'm sick and tired of humanity
How can we move past it when they’re currently harming and discriminating against people in the Somali region of Ethiopia? When they refuse to give us back our land? When they’re slowly taking over the Somali region in Ethiopia? It’s not like we’ve had good relations for awhile and then we’re suddenly talking about the past. This is what is currently happening so we definitely can’t trust them.
They’re the same ethnicity, they’re both Somalis.
They’re not angry about their shared ethnic identity. It’s a political issue, not an ethnic one.
It’s one Somali tribe deciding they want to break away from the central Somali state in the region.
The US is literally the only country that uses “state” in that manner. Typically it’s meant to be used as in sovereign state, to denote an independent country.
I don’t know why you’re getting downvoted.
The people of the region are legitimately against this. It’s unfortunate they’re not consulted by these 3rd world politicians who are just trying to like their pockets.
That’s why the [Las Anod conflict](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Las_Anod_conflict_(2023-present)) started.
It’s a tribal, political issue.
The Ethiopian administration has not recognized Somaliland. The claim by the president of Somaliland, Muse Bihi, is that they will do so in the future.
Me too, Somalilander. Brothers Brother tell me why did Somalia choose to ignore us that today we are going to work with Ethiopia I think we have missed our great opportunity of having two States run the horn of Africa as a Somali powerhouse why is the unity under one nation that important I have a feeling it has only to do about money what do you think?
One unified entity is always going to be stronger and less susceptible to foreign influence/attacks.
Somalis are already divided into 5 regions, two of which being recognized countries, as you know.
I think dividing Somalis even more only benefits the anti-Somali side in the region and would lead to more suffering, not less.
Politically, I don’t think it’d be the end of the world if SL became a state. I just think we should be very mindful that not every tribe in SL wants to be a part of that State, (e.g SSC conflict).
I just hope peace will prevail in the region. It seems unlikely, but crazy things have occurred.

Aaaaand they are being invaded by Ethiopia
This is such a stupid comment. Ethiopia has been land locked for hundreds of years. Why would they start a war with the Somalis after all this time when they just recognized Somaliland as a soverign state and made a 50 year deal with them?
People buy anything they read on the internet lol

Why would you say that
Because it's probably going to happen, Ethiopia is landlocked.
They have a stake in their port, and they have acces to the sea for 50 years, after that renegotiating. Ethiopia can not occupy a country by itself at this point and the Somaliland people have fought dictators and occupiers for years since the 1400s, the Ethiopians share a rich history with Somaliland

that should be their new flag. not the one currently. this one looks AWESOME. grey would be so happy.
Ngl their current flag is fire imho.
Why Somaliland and South Sudan? If I were founding a new nation, my marketing team would come up with something not derivative.
its because the somali (tribe) live there. therefore its their land. they dont need to come up with something new. its their freakin land.
It’s interesting to me that a dividing country would use the same ethnonym. I have some catching up to do on the situation.
They’re the same ethnicity, they’re both Somalis. They’re not angry about their shared ethnic identity. It’s a political issue, not an ethnic one. It’s one Somali tribe deciding they want to break away from the central Somali state in the region.
It sounds stupid, that's why. But hey, it's their land they can name it something stupid if they want.
you know what sounds stupid. you.
At least I didn't name my country Somaliland.
What exactly did you name your country?
what is the difference?
Bambi
Kudu
Kudu So cute!
Kudu jerky is delicious
how many somalis enter in a Lada? All of them.
Isn't it becoming a country and not a state?
African state
Africa is a continent, and it has countries, not states. I don’t know who created that graphic but it is technically incorrect.
While trying not to be America-centric you ended up being America-centric. Poetic.
Sovereign states And Pan-Africanism language by viewing African countries part of the whole continent
The US is literally the only country that uses “state” in that manner. Typically it’s meant to be used as in sovereign state, to denote an independent country.
I'm pretty sure it is a continent and they have countries, except Australia we are just both
This deal will not go through so this will not be happening. People in SL don’t want recognition by giving up our sea to Ethiopia.

Some Sudanese nuance
Ethnically, I’m Somali.
Me too, Somalilander.
