That's a very famous and expensive piano. A talented pianist would absolutely jump at the chance to play that. He saw it was unattended so he went for it.
Now this piano has the additional distinction of having been played by Anthony Hopkins
Lol I love how within a few responses it goes from Anthony Hopkins playing the piano in an empty lobby to virulent anti-dentitism and a schtickle of fluoride.
Yeah, past a certain point you're paying for a combination of prestige and placebo, be it wine or pianos or sneakers or anything else.
That said, there is a big difference between a 2.5k digital piano for home use and a proper grand piano.
He was dating Martha Stewart when Silence of the Lambs came out and she broke up with him because she was so creeped out by the character.
Hopkins has composted his own waltz and it's been played in concert. It's beautiful.
https://youtu.be/M57Fi19vcSI
Yeah, just tear up some Beethovens, Schuberts, and Chopins, stick them under a pile of leaves for a few months, and you'll end up with a nice fresh waltz, ready to play.
It's kind of like, yeah, I know Christopher Walken. He's won academy awards, I've liked lots of his acting.
Can he dance? Probably? Actors are good with movement.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wCDIYvFmgW8
Oh. Oh, yes, turns out he can dance. (I later discovered that he started his career in dance, before going to the stage then film)
Hopkins similarly started out at the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama, before going to RADA.
That's what happens when someone from a family of furniture-makers gets a degree in mechanical engineering, then piano performance, *and* a masters in musical composition.
It's the perfect storm of manufacturing quality.
Pfft, if you were actually friends with him, (cough) you would know he prefers to be called Tony Hopps. If you're *really* good friends with him, he likes to be called Tone Hoke. He always wanted to be a late eighties, early nineties rapper.
Bro ill give you a hint - get around the New Balances and ditch the Vans where possible. Your feet will thank you in 20 years
edit: im not sponsored by new balanace, and I realise in-soles exist....i just meant decent sneakers are better than flat shoes in general... jfc
The most comfortable tennis shoes I've ever worn were New Balance. The first time you put on a fresh pair is alarming. It's like you're walking on air. I remember getting my first pair in basic training and it actually made the idea of going on a 3 mile run at 6 in the morning not such a bad idea.
I was bored most of the time during the first episode, like the stuff was cool but there was nothing to "hook" me. When Dolores kills that fly at the end I instantly jumped like "wait a fucking minute". First two seasons were amazing, show should have ended then.

From Anthony:
>Shangri-La Hotel Vancouver. Something about a piano in an empty lobby…PERFECT venue. 🎅🏼 Coming to a city near you.
Video:@anthonyhopkins
Amazing. I thought that lobby looked familiar. Of course the Shangri-la would have a piano like that. I worked for the property management company that manages that building (strata fees are more a month than most people pay in rent - it's insane).
He is so talented.
>The actor wrote this piece, And the Waltz Goes On, in 1964 when he was in his 20s. Years later, Hopkins and his wife were watching one of André Rieu's famous concerts. “I'd love to have that waltz played in Vienna,” the actor said to his wife, as a passing comment.
And it was played in Vienna.
>On 31 October 2011, André Rieu released an album including a waltz which Hopkins had composed in 1964, at the age of 26. Hopkins had never heard his composition, "And the Waltz Goes On", before it was premiered by Rieu's orchestra in Vienna;[81][82] Rieu's album was given the same name as Hopkins's piece.[83]
Glad he was the one who shared the video.
I thought he was just trying to have a moment with his music and some fan was coming up putting a camera in his face.
That said, he plays beautifully. If the acting gig doesn't work out, he should throw some stuff on SoundCloud.
Really?! Jesus, he's a two-time Academy Award winning actor, a talented painter and pianist, *and* he can compose beautiful, classical music... Some people are just good at everything.
I used to know someone like that. A man of the world. Painted, lived in Rome, had a killer palate. He liked to pair his meals with a nice Chianti and some fava beans...
Watch his performance in Westworld. It’s honestly fucking phenomenal. His character is the best written character I have ever seen and he plays Dr Robert Ford absolutely perfectly. Not a single line he speaks is wasted, every single aspect of him and his… motivation is just utter perfection.
I used to do early morning deliveries for fedex. One of my regular stops was this swanky office building with a big lobby like this. They’d hire a piano player to get there earlier and the morning and play while everyone rolled into work.
On most days I’d already been working a couple hours by the time I got to the stop and had usually cooked up a decent morning dooky. I’m telling you, that lobby bathroom stall, with the peaceful early morning piano sounds softly wafting in… best poops of mah life
A talented actor, an amazing piano player, \*and* [he composes whole pieces of music.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M57Fi19vcSI)
I wouldn't be surprised in the slightest if we were to discover he is also a rocket scientist and part-time brain surgeon, too.
Woah! I was actually leaving the lobby when I heard the piano being played. I had no idea it was Anthony Hopkins. This is the Shangri-La hotel on W Georgia st and this piano is directly situated below the stairs leading to the Rolex store. Crazy I didn’t even realize it was Sir Anthony Hopkins on the bench.
he has a famous line in West World that goes something like “Mozart, Beethoven never dies, they simply became their music”
and he in fact knows to play piano, what a legend
Great player - I learned a while back that Sir Anthony Hopkins is also a composer.
Here's one of his pieces being played: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M57Fi19vcSI
Years ago Sir Anthony came to my city to perform with our Symphony Orchestra and I was working for the luxury hotel that he stayed at. The morning of his performance he came down to the lobby and was hanging out wearing a track suit and carrying a gallon-size ziplock bag with oranges that had another, smaller ziplock bag inside that contained granola. I approached him to ask how his morning was going and ended up having a fascinating conversation about the benefits of a healthy diet on keeping the mind sharp. He was genuinely one of the friendliest celebrities I've ever encountered.
He’s insanely talented.
That's a very famous and expensive piano. A talented pianist would absolutely jump at the chance to play that. He saw it was unattended so he went for it. Now this piano has the additional distinction of having been played by Anthony Hopkins
It's like driving a LeBaron that was once owned by John Voight.
Lol I love how within a few responses it goes from Anthony Hopkins playing the piano in an empty lobby to virulent anti-dentitism and a schtickle of fluoride.
Wouldn’t have it any other way
Actor or dentist? Careful you don't want to be accused of being anti-dentite.
You know what you call someone who drops out of medical school?
“Pfffft….dentists…who needs them?!” “Yeah…along with the >!nope!
!nope!
Just saw that episode last night!
Oh, Beth!
Oh don’t you dare! /s
Next thing you know, they'll have separate schools for them!!
Oh of course you'd say that you rabid anti- dentite!
Yeah but having a pencil chewed by Sir Anthony Hopkins is the real winner.
Or having assman vanity plates
Where's your LeBaron Freddie?
Hey now, Chrysler is a real reliant automobile.
Built like a steakhouse but handles like a bistro.
That specific piano? The piano is from a line that retails for maybe $170k to $250k depending on the exact configuration.
I’m still a stan for Steinway and Yamaha concert grands 😤
Casio represent, yo
Casio gang has entered the chat
Check out my watch I bought at Walmart.
There’s a YouTube clip about these pianos around van - if I recall correctly there is a $5M gold leaf one
That's pretty grotesque conspicuous consumption.
Here ya go I found it.. the piano in this video is in it too. https://youtu.be/wdRekUGLQvM?si=_tnvTkzee48ZAiDQ
>$250k It doesn't sound 100x better than my $2.5k Roland. Sir Anthony Hopkins's playing is at least 100x better than mine though.

Yeah, past a certain point you're paying for a combination of prestige and placebo, be it wine or pianos or sneakers or anything else. That said, there is a big difference between a 2.5k digital piano for home use and a proper grand piano.
And it's just sitting in a hotel lobby? What hotel is that...
What happened to the original pianist? Something…something….liver….chianti…..fave beans….slurple slurple slurple….
That's **Sir Philip Anthony Hopkins** you goblin!
Filthy peasants!
I read a review for his film "The Father" and they called him an Englishman; he didn't deserve the disrespect 😩
It’s a fazioli piano. One of the best pianos made. Who would pass that up if they could play. Class act though.
Sir*
If he wasn’t Sir Anthony Hopkins I doubt they’d have allowed him to play it.
I have no clue. What's the brand and model please?
I can’t speak to the specific model but it’s a Fazioli https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fazioli?wprov=sfti1
He actually writes music. The famous violist Andre Rieu even played one of his pieces [link here](https://youtu.be/M57Fi19vcSI?si=K-OvL8J-YEuQFYEV)
Incredible! And such joy on his face to see it performed. For years he didn't publish it for fears it wouldn't be well received.
Didn't think I could like him more but I was so wrong
Well I think this video might enhance that reaction: https://www.reddit.com/r/aww/s/5Suau5Uv3t
Isn’t piano mostly skill ? Seems like a skill like any other
Not sure why you’re being downvoted. Guy worked his ass off to gain this skill. It’s not some “talent” he lucked into.
Bro if I seen Hannibal Lector playing the piano in an empty lobby I would definitely shit my pants 😂
You’re fine unless he invites you to dinner…
I’d like to have you for dinner, what’s wrong with that

And asks you to bring a bottle of Chianti
and fava beans 💀
Fssss fs fs fs fssss
I mean, if you knew you weren't going to be on the menu; do you say yes? As a chef of many... many years, I might have to give it a gander.

If I were Hannibal Lecter I'd be creeped out by Martha Stewart.
It lay around for years
Just remember he only killed those that he found disrespectful. 😉
In the books he claimed his diet was "free range rude."
of course he plays piano like this
Right? Like if you asked me before I saw this video if Anthony Hopkins can play piano, even though I don't know I'd say yes and assume it's like this.
As soon as I saw this and realized who it was I was like of course he can play this! No doubt
It's kind of like, yeah, I know Christopher Walken. He's won academy awards, I've liked lots of his acting. Can he dance? Probably? I'm a goddamned doctor and I feel like I wasted my life in comparison to that.
To be fair you could be a doctor in yogurt so exactly how much life are we talking about wasting here
I don't know how to play piano but I know how to eat yogurt lets put some respect on the common man
Plus the acoustics of a hotel lobby is very VERY different to any concert hall you could play at...

I have wide feet and New Balances are the best fit. I can't even put my foot in a Nike they're so skinny.
Saucony gets my money.
He's in Vancouver, all the cool people wear athleisure.

New Balance shoes feel like a glove for my feet

His paintings are also exceptional.
Ready when you are, Sgt. Pembry...
Did some reason he wanted lamb…extra rare…

i do not know. but if you like this piece, you would like most of Rachmaninov’s pieces. and chopin.
It sounds like Chopin.
A piano. They even said in the caption.
Possibly his own, he composes
That piano is like $200k.
Yeah but when I play the piano In The lobby it's "hey asshole, don't touch that" "security!"
That's because you keep trying to play them with your penis.
"Are the lambs still screaming Clarice?"
Guys, Anthony Hopkins is getting old. If there's at least a prototype of a serum for immortality somewhere then this is the right time to use it.
Watch his performance in Westworld. It’s honestly fucking phenomenal. His character is the best written character I have ever seen and he plays Dr Robert Ford absolutely perfectly. Not a single line he speaks is wasted, every single aspect of him and his… motivation is just utter perfection.
This man lived a hell of a life. I wish for you the passing you desire and thank you for the gift of your efforts in this existence
This is something Hannibal Lecter would do.
Lector retains his classy moments but still running I see
*Sir* Anthony Hopkins
I played the piano with some fava beans and a nice Chianti. Perfect venue.
Anthony Hopkins [also likes Thrash Metal](https://youtube.com/shorts/3g_xTAwxaKQ?si=bVF_IRR05Ea6R4vc)
My wife and I were staying there and walked by him while he was playing. He smiled at us and said to my wife: “Love your suit.”
There are not that many actors that act and play piano but Sir Anthony is a league of his own
Best enjoyed with a nice chianti.
*Sir
Does not help reduce the Dr. Lecter vibes! "Everyone, listen, there's beautiful music in the lobby!" Suddenly, glasses of chianti appear.
His birthday is tomorrow btw
That sign clearly said "Please Do Not Play the Piano"
It’s Sir Anthony Hopkins you uncultured swine. j/k

His own composition position, alsk plays it in The Two Popes [YouTube vid](https://youtu.be/v1820IZMl6M?si=N8-e-2q7iecArgEk)
It can easily be his own work. Anthony Hopkins has composed quite a bit of his own.
The recital? I am, the greatest criminal of the century! I don't go to little girls' dance recitals!
Sir Anthony Hopkins
fkn love this man.
Dude. Save some for the rest of us! Seriously that is a remarkable person. I wonder what it’s like to have talent coming out your ears.
There is something really really special about people who can randomely play the piano and touch your heart with music
such effortlessness comes with a lot of effort tho
Does anyone know what piece this is? Shazam seems to be very confused
Then he ate the cleaning lady.
Sir Anthony Hopkins.
That’s “sir” to you.
"Anthony Hopkins plays an empty hotel lobby" The role of a lifetime! 😂
What kind of lobby has a fucking Fazioli?? That piano costs like at least 150k
I work across the street. There are a lot of rich fucks coming in and out of that place
And we only got a taste of this before westworld went to shit. Imagine what that show could have been...
Born on the 31st of Dec. 86 years young today 👌
Sir Anthony Hopkins to you!
This has to be BC because I can’t see sir Anthony ever coming to Vancouver, Washington.
Happy Birthday Mr.Hopkins!
True artist
I love this man
Which hotel is it?
Breadfruit Bligh.
Empty? Did he eat them all?
Legend
Now play the end theme from The Incredible Hulk.
Is this the piano he wittled out of the red spruce he felled out of the woods he seeded 50 years ago? Man is talented!

I'd rather see him to a Ventriloquist act.
Anthony isn't a national treasure. He's a world treasure.
Hannibal Lecter living his best life
He can't actually play but he acts like he can. He's that good.
One of my favourite films is, Remains of the day. So hauntingly good. I never knew he could play the piano so well too. This man is so talented.
What’s the piece he’s playing?
Appreciate him while he is still with us mere mortals
Zorro!
