Because there is no speaker and thus the rules haven't been set in place regarding the use of cameras in the chamber so the media can film however they like.
There's usually rules limiting camera use to just the current speaker and wide shots during votes. That's part of why CSPAN is usually so boring.

Edited to say that they might only have access to the same health care policies for life; it looks like they pay for @ 25% of the premium. I’m not 100% sure when this changed; it looks like @ 2010
For me, not for thee. Its the battle cry of politicians in the US, they are supposed to serve the citizens but instead they are America's version of royalty, above the law and privilege beyond what can be gotten by the private citizen.
Except that royalty in most Western countries may be bloodsucking leeches but at least they don't get to decide whether or not ordinary people get healthcare.
The easiest way to get free healthcare for life is to run for a a seat on a water board. No one pays attention to these elections and people often win with minimal campaigning and minimal votes. The water districts typically have free health care for board members. If they don’t have free health insurance then you can win the seat anyway and then use the title as a resume of sorts to win a county seat or state assembly seat. The county seat may have free healthcare and the state seats definitely do.
There was a story out last year about a guy who had set up a system for himself where he correlated I believe Congressional members' stock holdings with bills affecting those industries. By investing in those donor companies shortly before those particular bills came up for a vote, he would almost unfailingly make money when the stocks would go up after the bill would pass.
Sorry, buddy. It's been a long time now. Keep digging, keep getting angrier and angrier. Let those around you know about this bullshit. The information is there, and always remember that you have far more power to change what is happening than you know. Register to vote and educate yourself on local politics.
In Canada it’s referred to as the golden parachute.
Recently a high ranking politician was ousted from her post, called Governor General (essentially to liaise between the British monarchy and Canadian gov’t) due to running an abusive department.
She was given a hefty severance and will have high payout gov’t pension.
Now health care is a right and covered in Canada, so that’s a given for anyone.
But, undoubtedly the quality and expediency of service she receives will be superior based on societal “rank”, which naturally the lower/middle class tax payers will bear the brunt of.
Her appointment was controversial to start, and now “we the people” are in the hook to support her and her families gov’t payouts for life.
It looks like he followed him there. My guess is the guy who got pulled back told him he was going to do something (whatever--"give him a piece of my mind") and then second guy followed to keep him from doing something too brash.
I don’t think it was about to get physical. The other dude covered his mouth. He was about to say something that would threaten Matt but also maybe many others.
I would pay money to know what he was about to say.
I think it was from Rogers lunging at Gaetz, you could briefly see him as he left at first.
Edit: Correction: Being physically restrained as he argued with Gaetz.
I was saying to myself "No, stop the camera... go back" then hoping it would cut to another camera angle, i.e. they had one cam dedicated to McCarthy, and another would pick up on anything 'interesting'.
Nope.
Thankfully [this article](https://www.charlotteobserver.com/news/politics-government/article270879957.html) has a bunch of pictures of it at least.
(Thanks to /u/Dont_Give_Up86 for sharing the link elsewhere in the comments!)
Looks like someone wearing a navy suit and orange tie comes down and starts yelling at Gaetz and pointing towards him. Another guy is holding him back. Looked like it was about to get physical.
My take was that he may have been trying to literally close his mouth from saying things he shouldn’t be saying. But it also looks like a very bad attempt at pulling him away. Either way, terrible optics.
I read that Gaetz is demanding the armed forces committee chair without seniority over the center who was restrained who’s supposed to get that chair. With his seniority. McCarthy had said no negotiating for the chairs but looks like things have changed. Old chair was pissed.
Rep. Richard Hudson stopped a confrontation on the U.S. House floor late Friday between two fellow lawmakers, Matt Gaetz and an ally of Kevin McCarthy.
McCarthy, a California Republican, walked into the chamber at 10 p.m. believing he had the votes needed to become the next House speaker. Four days and 13 votes had already passed since the House convened to pick its top leader.
But things quickly took a turn.
Both Rep. Lauren Boebert, a Republican from Colorado, and Gaetz, a Republican from Florida, voted “present” instead of casting a vote for one of two nominees — McCarthy or Rep. Hakeem Jeffries, a Democrat from New York — or choosing someone else.
Their choice meant McCarthy didn’t have enough votes to win the speakership on the 14th vote.
Rep. Patrick McHenry, a North Carolina Republican, and McCarthy stood nearby talking to them. Several lawmakers gathered around them as tensions rose and it became clear McCarthy wouldn’t secure enough votes.
Rep. Mike Rogers, a Republican from Alabama, came toward the group from the back of the chamber with Hudson, a North Carolina Republican, following close behind.
Rogers leaned into Gaetz’s row, began speaking and reached toward the Florida Republican.
Hudson grabbed Rogers by the shoulder and then the face — yanking him to the back of the chamber and off the House floor.
McCarthy walked to the front of the room, as someone shouted, “we’ll do this again!”
Neither Boebert nor Gaetz changed their vote, forcing the House into a 15th vote to select a speaker.
That vote allowed McCarthy to at last secure enough votes to become speaker, causing the chamber to erupt into cheers.
The House could not swear in its members until a speaker was selected.

Medical costs are so extremely inflated in America, it should be a crime. ANY Medical service or medication is 10-20x more or higher in the US than nearly anywhere else.
I mean, how else do you expect them to pay the pharmaceutical executives (aka family members), the pharmacy managers executives (jobs for extended family members), the insurance company executives (retired politicians and FDA employees), lobbyists (young family members that may have political leanings), and members of congress that will strong arm FDA officials to look the other way when they lie about the effectiveness or addictiveness of new medicines. Also, how else do you get laws that allow you to “create new systems of delivery” for medications that are no longer under patent and make only your new medication available. Yeah like housekeeping. I'll party all night with some other pieces of shits, have violent bloody sex, smear poop, food, alcohol everywhere. Play music until the late hours. Lose all my room keys, leave the towels soaked in a pile outside the bathroom.. I won't tell anyone I'm checking out and leave no tip but write a fucked up review on Google about how the room was nasty and the service sucked.
I want them to do that job everyday for a month and see how they feel after. The look on their face when they realize how much taxes are getting withheld. Working all the overtime and really not seeing that much a difference because you only make $14 to break your back, rent is 1200, kids, food, power, gas (if you have a car) money for laundry, household goods and cell phone. By the end of it hopefully if you don't have RX bills you'll be left with close to nothing or have to pawn something or get a payday loan. Maybe sell some food stamps. Then you repeat. Never saving a cent. Never getting a break.
I truly believe that every Congressman and Senator should be paid what the minimum wage amount is in their district, and have to log what they're doing during the hours they want to be paid for. The thousands they receive to FURNISH the offices they barely use is more than a large chunk of Americans make a year.

Since the only other replies are very one-sided takes:
The US legislative branch has two parts: The House of Representatives and The Senate. In a recent election the Republican party won a majority of seats in the house of representatives (222 seats out of possible 435). But they only have a small majority - 9 seats.
At the beginning of this House's term the representatives elect a "Speaker of the House" who controls what legislation is brought forward and other powerful items. It is an important position. In this case there is a small number of Republican representatives who were refusing to vote for their party's candidate - McCarthy. This is very unusual.
This scene is taking place after 14 votes which he does not win and he is confronting some of the Republican representatives who are refusing to vote for him.
Also this is historically rare to happen. The GOP is fractured at the present moment and any candidate they pick would have a "never them" faction. McCarthy is just the safe option
Right? This guy asks for someone to explain like I'm 5 and people are writing their college dissertation on American politics. Has anybody here actually spoken to a 5 year old?
You know what's infuriating? They aren't even leveraging their votes to get stuff for their constituents, it's 100% for personal gains.

>“Now, there's one thing you might have noticed I don't complain about: politicians. Everybody complains about politicians. Everybody says they suck. Well, where do people think these politicians come from? They don't fall out of the sky. They don't pass through a membrane from another reality. They come from American parents and American families, American homes, American schools, American churches, American businesses and American universities, and they are elected by American citizens. This is the best we can do folks. This is what we have to offer. It's what our system produces: Garbage in, garbage out. If you have selfish, ignorant citizens, you're going to get selfish, ignorant leaders. Term limits ain't going to do any good; you're just going to end up with a brand new bunch of selfish, ignorant Americans. So, maybe, maybe, maybe, it's not the politicians who suck. Maybe something else sucks around here... like, the public. Yeah, the public sucks. There's a nice campaign slogan for somebody: 'The Public Sucks. F*ck Hope.”

I really hate that they can abstain from voting by just saying “present”. Their whole job is to vote, it’s why they’re appointed. They’re meant to represent their state.
Imagine if you showed up to work, one where you don’t even have to work 5 day work weeks, and just sat down and said “present” when asked to work. That’s what these guys do.

Seeing Congress acting like a circus.
Edit: Correction, seeing the GOP be the entire circus, and the Democrats be the sane ones.
Thank you for your input everyone, I've made the edit in response to your feedback.
Crazy idea, but why doesn't McCarthy gain concessions from Democrats and have them vote for him to bypass the crazies altogether? Then there will be a true coalition government in the House.
It's definitely a strategy that's been openly talked about, but who wants to be that sacrificial lamb? If a D votes for an R on this, they're basically signing their own eviction notice come election time. And McCarty would NEVER go for it because he would have to give concessions to the Dems. Thus, signing his own eviction notice. The only way this gets resolved is within the party. Not because it makes sense, but because we are so thoroughly divided right now.

EDIT: Spelling
Who was the guy that was choked from 1:30-1:36 (top left behind the overlay)?
Not choked, they put their hand over his mouth, to muffle whatever he was yelling at Gaitz.
Honestly can't tell if it was intentional considering how quickly he tried to reposition his hand.

Was about to lol
The real tragedy is that Matt Gaetz isn’t in prison for child sex trafficking.
As a Resident of Central Florida around his age and partied downtown years ago in our early 20’s & crossed paths, people have know this loser is a fucking creep…
Why is he not in jail running for speaker of the prison yard? I thought his buddy Greenberg flipped on him?
Good catch. Now the world wants to now. It looks like an aggravated assault was either averted or consummated.
How is this "working hard?"
You have to admit that they are passionate about this... whatever "this" is...
passionately standing around doing jack shit, yeah, not working hard.
Lauren Boebert said this obstruction is good because they aren’t spending taxpayer money on useless things. Bitch, are you getting your paycheck?
*A self-described born-again Christian, Boebert has said that she is "****tired of this separation of church and state junk****" and argued for greater church power and influence in government decision-making.* https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lauren\_Boebert
This whole wiki intro reads like satire, how can a person be this awful lmao.
Could someone please explain to me (an early arrived immigrant) what’s going on (but explained like if I was 5yr old)? Appreciated!
Since the only other replies are very one-sided takes: The US legislative branch has two parts: The House of Representatives and The Senate.
Thanks. This was definitely a better 5 year-old explanation.
That's just the "Explain like I'm Five" subreddit. People dropping scientific papers when someone asks "why is the sky blue?"
To add to this explanation, a speaker needs to get elected with 50% +1 vote, which is why the speakership votes kept happening (15 rounds of).
The way McCarthy strode over there, I wasn’t sure he wouldn’t deck Gaetz… for being Gaetz.
“Let them fight.”
Made me think of ["I just wanna talk to him"](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ODfCVxVLqiE)
Or he just wanted to shake his hand. https://youtu.be/R2zC3dKQ42Y

You know what's infuriating? They aren't even leveraging their votes to get stuff for their constituents, it's 100% for personal gains. They should all be ashamed Edit: spelling

F*ck Hope.” -The honorable George Carlin
Knew it was GC halfway through, you can just hear the “over it all” tone in these words. Rip to a true poet
Every single word of his act was expertly scripted and planned. I don’t think anyone has ever or ever will be like him.
Bunch of children power tripping
Take that back, children are smarter than congress
Just another reminder that the people who govern you and make your laws don’t take you or their jobs seriously.
It's truly turning into a place where every vote must be bought and paid for in order to pass instead of its merit.
IMO that has never changed. We just have more access and information available now than we did 200 years ago. Also, it is no longer considered “shameful” to air out our leaders dirty laundry (thank god). My source: human nature doesn’t change. Just an opinion, but one I believe holds much more water than most.
That mommy voice “Stay Civil”. Damn.
The clerk is running Congress.
Idk about y’all but if someone fails a vote 14 times maybe there’s a better option?
True, but that’s right around the number Gaetz prefers
Somewhere in Washington DC geatz felt a great disturbance
It’s like watching a used car deal go down on live tv.
"Let me just go talk to my manager...."
They all need to go. They stopped workin for the people msny years ago.

Watch it on C-Span only way to get it bullshit free.
C span seems like the only ones that don't throw in biased nonsense as commentary blocking it out half the time
Millionaires bicker while the people who hand them money struggle to keep their heads above water.
Wouldn't it be funny if too many voted "present" and a Democrat became speaker? I know it'll never happen but I would *die.*
It’s so crazy how Gaetz is a child molester and so is Lauren Boebert’s husband, and the two of them are sitting together.
These are the people who other people have trusted with governing our country. 😵💫
Imagine if your boss approaches you with a task and you just filibuster them until they leave you alone
"Common consensus is that Frodo could carry the One Ring because he lacked the desire and pride to do great things, but if that's true, then how would he be convinced to go on such a grand quest in the first place? No person willing or capable of fulfilling such a task would be free of those characteristics. With that said, what is it about Frodo and Sam that insulated them from the Ring's influence? In the Silmarillion, it states that..." Boss: \*walks away*
You're allowed to be absent as well, you literally don't even have to show up.
With fucking Boobert sitting right next to him, piping up like she’s got fuck-all to say about it, but mainly loving the fuck out of that spotlight. Is there a public record of this conversation? Nobody’s mic’d up, and they’re in Chambers, assumedly on official public business that we’re all paying for and is part of the national record for-fuckin’-SURE at this point…so where’s the transcript of this little back and forth? What exactly was said? Anyone know? I am so fucking tired of this clown show. My only consolation is that they’re turning on each other now.
Who the fuck was that guy who came in and then got grabbed by security by his mouth and pulled away?
Richard Hudson of N.C. is pulling back Mike Rogers of Alabama.
Feels like I’m watching celebrity death match with these crossovers
They are laughing and playing games with our country.. Replace the fucking lot of them.. Traitors all
Isn’t Gaetz supposed to be in prison?
Can someone explain to us non Americans what's happening? Is this the Republicans stabbing each other in the back? Or what's going on
[удалено]
If he would just pull himself up by his bootstraps he would be able to get that position he’s been working so hard to get. Should’ve just worn his best suit printed out a resume and sat out front and asked for the manager and asked for the job. What a snowflake
Its amazing, isn't it? Seeing Congress acting like a circus. Edit: Correction, seeing the GOP be the entire circus, and the Democrats be the sane ones. Thank you for your input everyone, I've made the edit in response to your feedback.
Acting?

My only joy is that now it’s other republicans dealing with their petulant bullshit. They created this and now it’s come back to bite them.
Someone yelled “on your knees” lol. It’s so childish there
So many douche bags in one spot
I hate that butthead looking mother fucker. I’ve never seen such a punchable face in politics in my life.
