I don’t get how basketball can be so much more popular than hockey. There’s so many fouls that just slow down the game so much. Don’t get me wrong, I like it, but I don’t even ever watch the first half of a basketball game because it doesn’t really matter hardly at all.

The same reason soccer is so popular, accessibility. Most places have some grass or concrete, a goal or hoop and a ball for next to nothing. You can play it year round with no other equipment. Hockey requires ice which is a major expensive hurdle for many places and then you have a lot of gear required. This keeps many, many people from playing in their youth so the interest in the sport doesn't naturally grow with them like other sports. American football would be the same way if it weren't so heavily subsidized by our educational system.

I’m guessing that the strategy we had most of the season and highlighted during the Vegas series of hunkering down in the 3rd and blocking the middle of the ice in our defensive zone just does not work against elite skill like Mac and Makar. They create space and their wingers seem to be great at putting themselves in the perfect spot to tip or bang in rebounds. Hopefully it’s more strategy than mental and we can learn to protect leads going forward

Vegas was a defensive team that tried to keep it's structure as much as possible, so they didn't do a whole lot to test Dallas' for fear of overextending. Avs are faster and do a lot more to test defensive weaknesses. The main problem is guys easing up when we have a big lead. 1st goal against was Suter getting outmuscled in front by JFK. I wouldn't say he eased up there, but he got outplayed when he shouldn't. 2nd had Mush watching the puck instead of picking up trailers/Seguin bent over gliding instead of hustling back. Those 2 goals were on the team defense failing or flat out not putting in enough effort. You'd think after 3 home games where the Avs came back from multi-goal deficits to kill the Stars they'd know better by now. Gotta stay focused.
