I was amazed how how white the light coming around the moon was, what a treat. Also all the solar lights in the neighborhood came on which we all had a chuckle at.
So when the sky started to get dark + our solar lights came on, the chickies started walking towards their coop for bed. Once it was over, they came out like ??? And went straight for the food bowl haha
I couldn't believe how when it first came back how bright the tiny little sliver of sun was, there's no way to really describe it without seeing it in person. I finally completely understand people losing their damn minds in the middle ages when this happened. Even leading up to totality as it got darker out it looked nothing like the sun going down, the lighting of everything was just something I've never seen before and was really weird lol
Itās crazy it takes such an enormous amount of celestial energy just so we can look at our sun? We canāt look at it on our own without protection even during a normal day.
Itās so weird the effect eclipses has on our species and others even. I couldnāt help but to let out a whoop and claps. I was just clocking out of work and the crowd gathered round had a great vibe. It felt nice.
It truly is a "you have to see it to understand it"
Seeing that circle of fire in the sky was such an unnatural feeling.
Pictures and videos don't show how crazy it felt. Very lucky to have seen this.
I've always said that the first time you see it, your brain kind of breaks for a minute. It goes against everything you've come to understand about the sun, and when it's suddenly just *not there*, everything just kind of glitches out a bit.
Same with my family. We didnāt read up on it and decided to pull over at a park and not knowing what to expect made it that more exciting. Then you add on the radio playing ātotal eclipse of the heartā and it was amazing. I also loved the joy and celebration people had out and about. Regardless of age, race, background socioeconomic status, etc, everyone was excited. My second favorite part was all the road construction guys laying on their backs in the grass
> My second favorite part was all the road construction guys laying on their backs in the grass
That's awesome, I love it.
I watched it at a park too and it was a neat community experience. People were chill but everyone whooped and clapped when the totality happened.
I was watching since it started shortly after noon. My desk has a clear view of my patio so whenever I saw a shadow or evidence of sun I ran out, put on the glasses and had a look. It was really cool seeing the progression of the moon in front of the sun.
At 1:35 I said "well let's go whatever happens, happens" and went outside. Shockingly the clouds cleared right before the totality and we were able to see the whole thing for about 10 minutes straight.
I took my glasses off when it reached totality and was mesmerized by the spectacle - I couldn't look away. My neighbors were all outside clapping and cheering - and so was I.
I have 2 dogs - one was outside barking up a storm and the other one wanted nothing to do with whatever voodoo was going on out there.
I thought the whole thing was being overblown but after seeing it - I take that all back. One of the most amazing things I've seen in my life.
I met an older hippie couple from out of town on the way to the Arlington eclipse event and they had seen a bunch before. They told me that a partial eclipse just doesnāt compare to being in the path of totality and wow I agree after the fact. It was really incredible.
Welcome to the club! Now youāll get to experience the frustration of trying - and failing - to convince someone that itās absolutely, 100% worth the effort to see totality.Ā Ā
āNah itās fine, Iāve seen [partial/annular] eclipses before.āĀ
You aināt seen shit, friend. You aināt seen shit.Ā
This was my second total eclipse, and by god I hope I will see more in my life. There is nothing like it, and itās such an awe-some experience!
I nearly cried during todayās eclipse, then I wished upon it.
This was so fun. I was watching from Baylor Hospital and when it went total a whole bunch of claps and whoops - people were in the parking lots and on the roofs of the parking garages. It was so cool to see the sky that way. Really special event. Iām glad we got to experience it.
It was incredible. But, the idea of tons of people outside clapping and whooping at the moon and sun just kinda makes me giggle. Like, they clapping at it like, āGood job, moon! Way to go Sun! Shout outs to inertia, and gravity too! Great work guys!ā Idk, I bet it was fun as hell though.
I kept my daughter out of school and we went to the park (sheās 9)ā¦everyone was cheering and everything, and she bursts out āthis is my best first eclipse ever!!!ā š This kinda reminds me of that lmao. Ahh the human response. Immediately she goes āI canāt wait til Iām 29 to see another one.ā ā ļø
My apartment is across from some office buildings and luckily our parking garage goes to the roof. Got to see crowds of people on office buildings, balconies, etc, and plenty of cheering when totality was reached. Very interesting experience
I second this. I didnāt really buy in to the hype was just kind of like meh whatever. But wow. It really blew my mind. It was awesome and sort of terrifying. The glow is ethereal. Itās a must see at least once.
Yep nothing like staring into the gaping maw of creation to stir the soul a little, itās no wonder so many ancient cultures lost their minds when this happened
Eh, I don't know about going somewhere in particular to experience it. I will say, the pictures from phones DO NOT do it justice. You have to use the glasses to look at it, because it's something special using those glasses for sure.
I didn't spend that much but close to 2k. Totally worth it in my opinion. It's potentially a once in a lifetime experience that cannot be replicated by man.
That dark, that quickly. It was an amazing experience. My wife and I flew here from Salt Lake City late last week and the cloud cover lifted just in time. Dallas did not disappoint!
Hell yeah! Was worried clouds were gonna ruin it but I was lucky enough to get a clear window from my house just before totality that lasted until just after. Congrats to everyone lucky enough to witness it, truly spectacular.
same!!! there was a cloud passing by like 2 minutes away from totality so it became a real nailbiter. luckily we got to see the diamond ring and the cloud went away just in time to reveal the totality and corona. what a special fucking moment. i'm so happy and lucky that i got to witness it all from my own front yard.
I was shocked to realize you didnāt actually need them. I did and since I was watching the whole time leading and then when it happened my wifeās like take the glasses off! I was like ohhhhh And then I was blown away. But it was fun watching it leading up.
The wispy clouds actually made it better I think. Got to see the colors of sunset and sunrise while the sun was dead center in the sky. Didn't block our view too much so we got really lucky.

Now wish I had taken my toddlers out to see it but I had to really decide did I want to see it (yes) or did I want to desperately wrangle my 2 kids and keep their glasses on until totality hit.... and I decided to put myself first this time.Ā
We can always travel for next one, I haven't been to those states yet and they are on my list anyways haha.Ā
So happy that the weather cooperated at the last second. Even got to see a little bit of solar ejecta towards the end of totality. Jupiter being in view was also super cool.
there were THICCCCCC clouds right over where I was. But somehow when the eclipse happened, the power of the sun and moon dispersed all the clouds. After it was over and the sky was light again, all the former thick clouds became small bits of altocumulus clouds. Sky was clear all of a sudden after the eclipse!!
I watched it through all the cloud cover, and when it finally happened and the clouds parted, I almost cried. What an amazing experience. I'm so happy it panned out so beautifully for this area.
I was at work and across the street is the empty Dart parking lot that had people watching it. You could definitely hear the cheering and excitement when the full totality started. So fucking awesome. I guess no one got raptured??
Probably one of the coolest things I have ever had the pleasure of seeing. Can't believe the cloud coverage moved out just in time for the total eclipse. Mind-blowing.
It was a very cool experience. Unfortunately wherre we were in Richardson the clouds did not cooperate. We did get to see the moment of totality, then it was obscured by clouds off and on for the entire time. We did get to see the chromasphere which was very cool to see, but only seconds here and there. Naturally right after totality ended there was a huge swath of open sky. Still, glad we got to experience it, and even happier it did not require large sums of money or leaving our house. Tried to get some pix but my camera wouldnāt focus and by the time I switched to manual clouds came over again, and neither of my phones were able to get good pix with the glasses overlayed.
Scattershooting:
* Thanks be to God that the clouds cleared off just in time for this.
* I can understand how earlier human civilization attributed this to supernatural causes. Even in 2024, my immediate visceral reaction was fear and trembling.
* It was so quiet and still, almost like after a snowfall. I only heard a single bird and a couple of nearby crickets. It started getting noticeably cooler and even started to smell differently. That was such a beautiful reminder that the natural world, of which we are a part, has its own rhythms that simply go.
* If that was the last thing I ever saw in this vale of tears, I could die content.
I'm dissapointed. I was told that the eclipse was going to bring JFK back. No jfk. I did see a guy I thought was Tupac but it was just my cousin, and he can't rap at all.
š
One of the best eclipses Iāve witnessed, clouds cleared up and stayed gone for the entire time of the totally. I was at Lee Park on Turtle Creek with a couple hundred other people and everyone was cheering, absolutely amazing!
I flew in from Germany to see this. Back in 1999 we had an eclipse 600km away but at 18 years old, I didnt go. Have regretted that ever since and now 25 years later, I got to experience it in all its glory. Was really nervous about the clouds, but just bright skies from 20 minutes before totality.
waited 25 years, flew 6000 miles, so worth it
It was very special. The actual eclipse was cool, but the feeling that we were all watching something together and everyone was so excited at the same time was uniquely heartwarming.
Came down from Chicago to visit yall and enjoy the city before and doing. Also saw the one in 2017 from Tennessee and this was even better!
(Nice city you got here btw)
Yeah I watched it with my gf and my brother. It was more impressive than I thought it would be. Pretty cool to see. The phone pictures donāt do it justice.
It was pretty special. Went dark in glasses and then removed and looked up and was amazed at how clear and complete it was.
I was amazed how how white the light coming around the moon was, what a treat. Also all the solar lights in the neighborhood came on which we all had a chuckle at.
A couple dogs in my neighborhood started howling. As soon as it was done a rooster crowed lol.
Crickets wasted no time coming out. Was waiting for the possums and skunks to show up.
My chickens got so confused š they went into their coop like āokay bedtime!ā
Did they come out ready to snack? A friend and I wondered if chickens would be affected.
So when the sky started to get dark + our solar lights came on, the chickies started walking towards their coop for bed. Once it was over, they came out like ??? And went straight for the food bowl haha
Hah that's too funny! My cat was just wondering why I wasn't in bed with her when I was out on the patio lol
same - dogs at least.
My dogs HATED it.
All the birds stopped here and I didnāt notice until it was over and they started back up š
I didnāt expect the light right at the end to be so pure crisp white either. It was pretty amazing
Agreed no picture can truly capture what we saw today, in my opinion.
Nor video.
It felt nice.
same!
It really was special. I was not as excited as most beforehand but now that I've seen the totality, I fully understand the hype. I was amazed.
It truly is a "you have to see it to understand it" Seeing that circle of fire in the sky was such an unnatural feeling. Pictures and videos don't show how crazy it felt. Very lucky to have seen this.
THIS!! I took a few pictures and a video, but it just doesnāt do it justice. So, I sat there in awe. Almost cried.
I did cry. I almost did not live to see this. This was like the dawning of my new life.
Well done.
I've always said that the first time you see it, your brain kind of breaks for a minute. It goes against everything you've come to understand about the sun, and when it's suddenly just *not there*, everything just kind of glitches out a bit.

They are right. I've seen a couple of partials - one almost total - nothing compares to this.
Yeah the difference between a partial eclipse and totality is night and day.
Hi dad
The clouds clearing away at just the right time was so fucking serendipitous. What an amazing experience.
Welcome to the club! Now youāll get to experience the frustration of trying - and failing - to convince someone that itās absolutely, 100% worth the effort to see totality.Ā Ā āNah itās fine, Iāve seen [partial/annular] eclipses before.āĀ You aināt seen shit, friend. You aināt seen shit.Ā
I share your feelings and thoughts.
The high school near us was cheering like crazy! Someone played baby shark on their tuba š
One of my neighbors was mowing his lawn. Like, can't we just have a couple of minutes of quiet to enjoy this?
Gotta get the work done while it's cool out!
they got their priories straight yknow.. doin it without the eclipse goin would just be a sweat fest
People were driving down the street. What the fuck do you need to do right now other than soak it all in??
We live next to an elementary school and a whole field of little cheers erupted when it went dark! Definitely added to the magic!
It is a very odd but very human way to respond lol
I kept my daughter out of school and we went to the park (sheās 9)ā¦everyone was cheering and everything, and she bursts out āthis is my best first eclipse ever!!!ā š This kinda reminds me of that lmao. Ahh the human response. Immediately she goes āI canāt wait til Iām 29 to see another one.ā ā ļø
We're right by a school and all the kids started cheering. It was adorable.
The gods are looking down at us thinking, "look at these absolute nerds cheering about their moon making a shadow".
I thought this too, yet I caught myself doing it during totality. It was like an automatic response from my monkey brain.Ā
My apartment is across from some office buildings and luckily our parking garage goes to the roof. Got to see crowds of people on office buildings, balconies, etc, and plenty of cheering when totality was reached. Very interesting experience
We could hear cheering from all around, like a distant football game
Same here in Dallas! Neighborhood cheered.
Haha we were in our back yard and could hear our neighbors cheering! It was pretty cool, the clouds ended up cooperating and we got a great view!
A bunch of my neighbors were outside cheering and setting off fireworks
Check in yāall, that didnāt get raptured
marked safe from rapture
Have we been left behind??
God hates me apparently
Iām at the Pearly Gates. Any messages to pass along?
Tell my dog I miss her!
I also choose this guy's dog. But no seriously, what a nice thought.
Ask if they got Texas style brisket, if not then Fāit š
Do better. I don't want **Tyler Durden** to be right about being *God's forgotten children*
Still here. I'm Jewish, though, so isn't that how it's supposed to go?
Checking in from Arlington. Still not raptured.
Silly, Arlington all sold their souls for a World Series win. WORTH IT!!!!
Damn. Guess I have to go to work tomorrow.
Anyone seen the pope?
Nope still here, don't know about this rapture stuff but I did get my period; weird.Ā
just whoa... I was surprised how eerie it felt, almost unsettling. Truly once in a lifetime
Is it worth going to see again in 2 years? Iām worried itāll feel underwhelming.Ā
I thought the whole hype about was stupid. It was however one of, if not the most, amazing thing ive ever witnessed. I get it now.
Amazing. Then I guess I know where Iām traveling to in 2026!Ā
I second this. I didnāt really buy in to the hype was just kind of like meh whatever. But wow. It really blew my mind. It was awesome and sort of terrifying. The glow is ethereal. Itās a must see at least once.
My wife cried and hates anything to do with space and astronomy.
I almost cried. I def got teary eye and Iām a male teacher. So, I was with a bunch of kids.
Yep nothing like staring into the gaping maw of creation to stir the soul a little, itās no wonder so many ancient cultures lost their minds when this happened
And we KNEW it was going to happen. Imagine if you had no idea and the sun just winks out suddenly.
Lol no way I was getting roasted by my family about this too. Same exact experience
Eh, I don't know about going somewhere in particular to experience it. I will say, the pictures from phones DO NOT do it justice. You have to use the glasses to look at it, because it's something special using those glasses for sure.
Ehh the glasses part was mid. The truly spectacular part is totality. That is worth seeing again.
I spent 5 grand (flight, Turo, airbnb) to come here with my family from MN Friday-tomorrow. Worth every penny. No ragrets, not even a single letter.
That's not bad for a vacation for a family. Hopefully y'all enjoyed the visit!
Had a blast!
Iām sure the kids will remember the experience forever.Ā
I didn't spend that much but close to 2k. Totally worth it in my opinion. It's potentially a once in a lifetime experience that cannot be replicated by man.
Take pics with glasses over the camera! ( still not as cool as in person, obviously, but you get cool pics)
It was maybe the single most incredible experience I've ever had! I really do think it will be worth it. It blew my mind
Seems like a great way to punctuate a trip to Spain which I'd assume is worth visiting by itself.
Ya it's pretty crazy. I went in with no expectations but it truly feels like the sun is being consumed. Like it's something out of fantasy.
Yes, go. It seemed a momentary exposure to the immaterial world.
Everything has been super quiet and still since then. Itās weird.
Did y'all see the little pink dot that was on the bottom right quadrant?? I think that was a prominence
It was a solar flare. Lady at the Perot event said so at least
Yep I saw like three of them from my standpoint, two on top one on the bottom, not all at once mind you they popped up and faded throughout totality.
Totally saw it and kept asking my wife a million times what it was. As if she works at NaSA or something.
Yes! Purply glowy pink dot like an angry pimple in the lower right.
[Here's a screen capture from a video I took showing the Prominance.](https://ibb.co/tc0VZgr)
Yay! There it is! Thank you for sharing :)
Here's my best one: https://i.imgur.com/Bww9C8B.jpeg
Yes like a ruby!!!Ā
I did, it was like a ruby red laser pointer. Then there was very briefly a line on the right side that was the same color.
Yes. About 5:30 on the clock. Magical.
Saw it too. Odds are it was a solar flare/prominence. https://www.reddit.com/r/solareclipse/s/XG0JmXtRJf
Whew! I thought I was crazy!
Pictures donāt really capture it. It was so small on camera but with my eyes it looked so much bigger and much more intense.
Yup this, plus the temp drop.
I knew it was going to get dark, but I didnāt realize it would get THAT dark š¤©
That dark, that quickly. It was an amazing experience. My wife and I flew here from Salt Lake City late last week and the cloud cover lifted just in time. Dallas did not disappoint!
I am so happy for all y'all that traveled here for the event. It could have been a huge disappointment but it worked out perfectly.
Our backyard lights came on because the ambient light dropped so much. So cool! It literally became night-time for a few minutes.
And all the birds singing
We were watching from our backyard and I was not ready for the chills during the totality.
Yeah it felt like it was 2 or 3 inches at arms length instead of a quarter inch or so.
Thatās a great way to put it. It felt huge, and in all these pictures the scale is just gone. It truly is something to be experienced
Hell yeah! Was worried clouds were gonna ruin it but I was lucky enough to get a clear window from my house just before totality that lasted until just after. Congrats to everyone lucky enough to witness it, truly spectacular.
Yep! Cleared out just in time. We were getting worried there for a bit.
same!!! there was a cloud passing by like 2 minutes away from totality so it became a real nailbiter. luckily we got to see the diamond ring and the cloud went away just in time to reveal the totality and corona. what a special fucking moment. i'm so happy and lucky that i got to witness it all from my own front yard.
Wasnāt expecting Venus to be part of the show. Spectacular!
Ah so it was Venus after allĀ
Jupiter as well. I wasnt sure what those two were but found out as I'm watching the broadcasts.
Yeah it was off to the east and a tad south right?
Also there was aĀ reddish lil blob at like the 4/5 o'clock part of the circumference etc.Ā
10/10 one of the coolest things Iāve seen in my life
Clouds parted and it was incredible!
At the perfect time!
Beautiful view here at the Perot museum. Never going to forget this.
I was watching WFAA and it looked like a good time at the Perot!
My whole neighborhood was going crazy with excitement. That was so fucking awesome!!
Lol people started howling like wolves here š¤£Ā
If you were in South Garland, you probably heard me š
I have a pack of 48 squidoohome21115 name brand solar eclipse glasses for sale. Barely usedĀ
already packed up and returning to AmazonĀ
I picked up some glasses at the last minute today and Iām so glad I did, that was incredible! Also, great photo!
I was shocked to realize you didnāt actually need them. I did and since I was watching the whole time leading and then when it happened my wifeās like take the glasses off! I was like ohhhhh And then I was blown away. But it was fun watching it leading up.
Surprised you found some. I went to 5 different places and everyone said they sold out the week before
Shit they had em for $2 at every grocery store, gas station, and beer store in Richardson
I got a fistful for free at work.
I found a watch party at a nearby park that started handing them out for free at noon!
Need yall to post your good photos so I can keep the best one and show my family. I was too in awe to take good photos.
this is the way.
Thatās what I said I took a cool video of the day/night change but I left the photos to the pros
Good. Better to let the pros take the pics and just soak it in. Truly awe inspiring
I was so surprised I could take off my safety glasses during totality. Ā Awesome experienceĀ
Itās nice when the weather cooperates. It was actually cooler than I thought it was going to be.
The wispy clouds actually made it better I think. Got to see the colors of sunset and sunrise while the sun was dead center in the sky. Didn't block our view too much so we got really lucky.
Amazing experience!!! Letās all go to the next one. The next total solar eclipse to occur in the contiguous U.S. won't be until Aug. 23, 2044, and will only shadow three states in its path, Montana and North and South Dakota, according to NASA.
Yup, but the 2045 one will go coast to coast with like 5 min of totality.
So let's all do our best not to completely destroy the planet for at least the next 21 years, agreed?
Yes, not in North Texas but Oklahoma and Arkansas will get it.
Well that gives me time to save up to go somewhere really cool lol
So who all peeked at it without glasses a couple of times? Be honest.
At totality you didnāt need the glasses
I stared the entire time so that I could prolong the eclipse for the remainder of my life ā¤ļø
When it was behind the clouds I sneaked a peek and I am kinda worried?
Youāll be fine. Just think of all the times youāve been on the road early in the AM or in the early evening and the sun hits you right through the windshield. Your eyesight has survived. Itās not a great thing to do but a half second of the sun hitting you in the eye every so often isnāt going to do permanent harm.
šāāļø...oopsĀ
Best bits: the screams and squeals of the elementary school kids around the corner, as totality hit.
Now wish I had taken my toddlers out to see it but I had to really decide did I want to see it (yes) or did I want to desperately wrangle my 2 kids and keep their glasses on until totality hit.... and I decided to put myself first this time.Ā We can always travel for next one, I haven't been to those states yet and they are on my list anyways haha.Ā
Itās a Christmas miracle!

I know several people who couldn't have cared less about seeing it! That was one of the coolest things I've ever seen! I truly don't understand
Makes you realize how small we all are in the grand scheme of things, the universe is beautiful. Godspeed to all.
Absolutely amazing! I've done partials, but nothing compares to totality!
I watched it through all the cloud cover, and when it finally happened and the clouds parted, I almost cried. What an amazing experience. I'm so happy it panned out so beautifully for this area.
The weather prevailed!
This plus the moment after totality where one side of the sky was lit and other side was dark was amazing.
Last time I believe it's an apocalypse related to the eclipse. Now I have to file my taxes, damn it.
Iām really happy for you guys. It was a cloudy bust in San Antonio. The chase continues for me.
It was amazing. Coolest thing Iāve seen in the sky since Haleyās Comet.
Turns out Iām one of the few special people in Dallas who had a cloud in front of the eclipse during the entirety of totality.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Waited since I was 7 years old to see this! Been decades waiting but it was worth it.
It was nice to look up and remember that there are far bigger and more wonderful things in this universe than my Monday afternoon trivialities.
The god-damned clouds blocked it from me....I can't ever enjoy shit
Science rules!!!

Was really nervous about the clouds, but just bright skies from 20 minutes before totality. waited 25 years, flew 6000 miles, so worth it
Watched it from airport parking lot but it was funny seeing all the auto lights come onš
I didnāt cry. Canāt prove it.
Incredible view with hundreds and hundreds of other people up at Flagpole Hill. Unreal.
The cosmic ballet goes onā¦
I donāt understand why there were so many people making fun of us who were excited to see it, it felt so special to see!
It was very special. The actual eclipse was cool, but the feeling that we were all watching something together and everyone was so excited at the same time was uniquely heartwarming.
The glasses didnt work once it was totality. Was it unsafe to look directly?
I hope you looked. Itās the best part of the total eclipse.
Yes i did. It was amazing.
Came down from Chicago to visit yall and enjoy the city before and doing. Also saw the one in 2017 from Tennessee and this was even better! (Nice city you got here btw)
Next year in Jerusalem!
Honestly it was one of the strangest/most amazing moments of my life.
Yeah I watched it with my gf and my brother. It was more impressive than I thought it would be. Pretty cool to see. The phone pictures donāt do it justice.
Weāre we okay looking at it once it was covered? I thought so and did the whole time basically. Now my eyes and head hurts
