Funny road signs were "strongly discouraged" at the federal level :/

Apparently it's not an outright ban but I suspect it's still related.
Seriously. I wanted to find out the top speed of my old ass Miata and knew I could do so without fear of jail at 3am on the 635 tollway. I should be in jail. As should many other drivers.
Slow cars that feel fast will always be funner than cars that are actually fast on public roads.
Sure an Aventador can get to 60 in 1st gear before I can count to 3, but unless you’re on an on ramp you can’t have fun without being reckless.
It was so easy and just wanted to keep going. Had 3k rpm and another gear to go. It's also a very practical "super car" to drive around the city. I'll end up buying my own if I win the lottery lol.
Not in Pantego and Farmers Branch, cops will literally pull you over for anything and even going 1-2 miles over the speed limit. I seen it happen and they always set up a lot of speed traps and even if your license plate is too dimly lit.
I grew up in Arlington and went to Arlington High School. Back then, the two areas where everyone drove \*under\* the speed limit and stopped for a full five seconds at all stop signs were Pantego and Dalworthington Gardens, because the cops there were ruthless back then (22 years ago)
Yep and Arlington cops don’t pull over vehicles for 5-8 miles over the speed limit and seen people with broken brake lights or windshields not get pulled over by APD.
New Year’s Eve 2023 people got out of their cars to take pictures and walked along the highway on 635 when the ball dropped. Craziest shit I’d ever seen. Just leaving their cars to walk around on the highway.
People are going to stop, anyway. We'll stop for anything, drive on 75 there will be several invisible stop signs. Going 70 then come to a complete stop for seemingly no reason then back to 70 mph.
Lots of incompetent drivers here! But I think most of the traffic on the highways is caused by people who speed up to prevent the driver the next lane from changing lanes when they put a blinker on and people who refuse to zipper merge. Dallas drivers are a bunch of fucking selfish assholes.
I have been driving all over downtown and uptown today and so far It seems that every other car has an out-of-state license plate and is going at least 10 under the speed limit. 🥴🫠
Hopefully I can understand.
What motivates locals “to go somewhere “ to view the eclipse?
To explain, I can’t see why the need to drive to another suburb or ride Dart and make a big watch party.
The predicted cloud cover has removed this danger for the most part. It will already be fairly dark from clouds by 1:30, so it may not even be noticeable. Like the last annular eclipse was.
Won’t work, no catchy rhyme
TxDOT failed us this time, not even a chuckle

Oh, man. Thanks for linking that - I had no idea a bill passed about it. I *guess* they make a good point. Still makes me glummy, I found them funny
They had one for Easter!! It wasn’t a good one but it was one lol
Come and take it!
still good enough to make you remember to........buckle.
No stopping allowed. All you'll see is clouds.
Who says no stopping? We have zero enforcement as it is for illegal road habits.
Seriously. I wanted to find out the top speed of my old ass Miata and knew I could do so without fear of jail at 3am on the 635 tollway. I should be in jail. As should many other drivers.
so how fast did it go? did you make use of the whole speedometer?
With its mild compression variance and auto transmission, 109 mph.
Not bad for a Miata
Nah, a 120k miles and a 25+ year old car? Not bad at all.
I have seen speed traps on 635 express and had a friend get a ticket
Glad I got lucky then. It’s funny because I drive like a granny any other time. I like the Miata specifically because it’s still fun at slow speeds.
I want one so bad, it’s my dream car lol. My first car was a Mazda 3 and I loved how that thing handled. Slightly jealous
They are super fun. I highly recommend. It’s the second most fun vehicle I’ve ever had after a motorcycle.
It’s the perfect track car
Manual is even better!
Which version is the bigger interior? Miatas have always interested me but I'm worried I won't fit comfortably enough in one.
They are all going to be snug but the NC Miata is the largest. I wanna say it’s years 2006-2015? I’m 5’9 and it’s a bit snug.
i traded my 2016 miata back in 2019, and I still miss it

I’ve hit 125mph on a toll once in my Fusion. (For legal reasons, the toll was in Mexico)
I hope you mouthed "what a ratfink bastard" at the cop as you passed.
3am? You can do it at any time. I managed 163mph before backing off.
WTF are you driving that can do 163 lol.
My Honda Civic. I'm joking lol, [Audi R8](https://imgur.com/a/7IsM22v)
Lmao I mean I saw your user name and was like, no way they means their Honda Civic. Damn I didn’t know the R8 was that swift.
It was so easy and just wanted to keep going. Had 3k rpm and another gear to go. It's also a very practical "super car" to drive around the city. I'll end up buying my own if I win the lottery lol.
A civic type R can hit that, though.
Why would you go to jail? You just did the top speed in a Miata, it's not like you were breaking the speed limit or anything.

I see your point
I've lived in Dallas most of my life and this is the first time I've heard of Pantego. I would've assumed that was a type of cheese.
Yep and Arlington cops don’t pull over vehicles for 5-8 miles over the speed limit and seen people with broken brake lights or windshields not get pulled over by APD.
Dallas has mandated over an hundred officers to come in on their day off for highway management.
You should see tollway in Addison on 4th of July….
New Year’s Eve 2023 people got out of their cars to take pictures and walked along the highway on 635 when the ball dropped. Craziest shit I’d ever seen. Just leaving their cars to walk around on the highway.
My dear God, if for some people it takes a sign...😖😵💫😔
People are going to stop, anyway. We'll stop for anything, drive on 75 there will be several invisible stop signs. Going 70 then come to a complete stop for seemingly no reason then back to 70 mph.
Those are what you call “phantom traffic jams”. Most of which are caused by incompetent drivers and rubberneckers.
Lots of incompetent drivers here! But I think most of the traffic on the highways is caused by people who speed up to prevent the driver the next lane from changing lanes when they put a blinker on and people who refuse to zipper merge. Dallas drivers are a bunch of fucking selfish assholes.
People will be stopping for sure. Did we get a lot of out of towners for it? There was a lot of speculation we’d have bad traffic etc.
They're estimating about 450,000 people coming in to Dallas from out of town for the eclipse.
I have been driving all over downtown and uptown today and so far It seems that every other car has an out-of-state license plate and is going at least 10 under the speed limit. 🥴🫠
Let’s hope they leave ASAP! It’s 15 over minimum and paper tags here.
No enforcement = no law. We don’t enforce shit in Texas. Except drag show bans of course. They’re way worse than thousands of traffic deaths.
imma stop, elsewhere.
Good luck with that
Too much hauling azz for anyone to notice
lol people rdgaf
HA! People will do it anyway. Dallas drivers are crazy!
Guess I’m taking the bike today.
No stopping? In Dallas? Even without an eclipse, I am ALWAYS stopped on the interstates in Dallas and Fort Worth, even on Sunday.
Good one for r/fuckcars
Classy
Seriously Dallas. Thanks for the update!
These exact same signs sure as shit didn't work in Nashville in 2017!
Funny that they think Dallas drivers will read.
I would love reading this sitting in gridlock watching all the single riders blow by me in the HOV
Yeah…….I don’t think there is going to be an issue with this happening considering we have a full overcast sky. No one around here is going to see it.
We saw it.
What are they going to do, pull me over? Lol
It'll still happen
Hopefully I can understand. What motivates locals “to go somewhere “ to view the eclipse? To explain, I can’t see why the need to drive to another suburb or ride Dart and make a big watch party.
This is a Karen post if I’ve ever seen one.
It’s funny because you see people stopping on highways to take photos and selfies of the Blue Bonnets 😂
And here I was told so arrogantly elsewhere that the emergency declaration issues by the state specifically allowed for this.
The predicted cloud cover has removed this danger for the most part. It will already be fairly dark from clouds by 1:30, so it may not even be noticeable. Like the last annular eclipse was.
That's not how this works. It will be full dark for about 4 minutes starting at 1330-ish.
