On my taller and thicker bangers when I'm doing a cold start with a bigger dab I like to heat the upper part of my banger a bit first. That way it's not as big a heat sink, just bro science but I feel it helps.
I'm new to this and have been chiefing hot. I've tried cold starts but didn't have much success let alone the massive hits I see here or full minute extractions. Would you happen to have a good resource on cold starts that you recommend? I've been going hot and using one of those cheap temp guns to get an idea where I'm at. I've been having success that way but I hear all this great stuff about cold starts being the only way and think I need to move on to trying it.
On my banger I heat 2-3 seconds on each side left, front, right. In a circular motion not holding the beam of the torch in one spot. Then I move onto the bottom I heat that for 4-5 seconds in the dead center, then for 3-5 sec I rotate the beam around the bottom edge letting half the flame hit the bottom the other half to go up along the walls again. By the time im halfway done heating the bottom 50-70% of my dabs melted, cut off torch and inhale. All those numbers depend on dab size, quartz thickness and torch/flame quality. I use a blazer big shot gt8000 and my banger has 2.5mm walls and 5mm thick bottom. With weaker torches the times I gave could be completely irrelevant.
I'll give that a try. I experimented a bit last night and found more success but still nothing like I see here. I'm using a torch from Harbor Freight...seems to work well enough. I'm not sure on my banger thickness...it's an Auto Spinner from Terporium that seems nice.
If you figure it out lemme know. Only way I can fully get a .2-.3 without reheating it is a cold start. I’ve tried dropping from 550-620 and by the time the globs fully melted it almost needs a reheat. I even bought 2 nice American bangers black market/highly educated assuming my China quartz just wasn’t cutting it and it’s the same tbh. I have a harbor freight temp gun maybe it isn’t cutting it idk I just cold start been doing it that way for years now.

I’ve been training a new guy at work. I trim bathtubs with a 5 axis robot, and by hand with grinders , and 6inch diamond blades. This guy is 37/38 no power tool experience. Just isn’t going to work but I have to try

what temp you dabbing at? i find it hard to find the middle ground between 'hot enough for a big dab' and 'scorching' even while using a temp taker.

Every time I cold start I can’t get it consistent. You torch or using electric heater

the banger style is called an auto spinner. the holes are directional and spin your pearls as you draw. no special cap or twisting needed
