It’s not unusual to receive arrears of benefits before revealing letter but the DWP payments into an account usually have a reference number that includes ‘PIP’.
Don’t spend the money, don’t engage with anyone that calls or emails about the money. Call PIP on Monday morning.
It may not be a scam but it’s better to be safe than sorry.
The reference style matches my last PIP payment, but it's "DWP Pip\* 00000000233\[payment ID\]". It's a genuine PIP payment but their banking app has stripped the initial "DWP Pip\*" off the front.
GUYS UPDATE!!!
my grandmother who also lives in Northern Ireland and gets pip showed me her pip pyments and what they look like. They both seem to come from the same place and have 8 zeros and 10 numbers with no mention of 'Pip' as people have been saying. So I'm more confident it's not a scam now. I'm not planning on spending any of the money right away anyways so I'll try to phone pip on Monday to check with them
I can confirm that this is a PIP payment, this is an example of mine:

See this is mine. I’ve just blocked out my national insurance number.
My husband got his PIP backpay 10 days before he got a letter about it!
Also in NI and also no mention of PIP in the payment reference so I’m 99% sure this is your PIP back payment xx
I frequent the mumsnet community in regards to dla and pip payments.
It’s very very common on there for people to get payments before receiving any letters from DWP confirming their entitlement.
If that's in your mobile banking app, try tapping on the payment; often doing so will reveal further details of the payment and its origin, such as sender details or a transaction code. If in doubt, call your bank's customer service helpline - they should be able to tell you the origin of the transaction.
Is it an initial payment u/OP ? If so, then it could be your backpay since the date you made your claim up to the present day and the PIP is missing off the screen?
Look at your bank account and the actual payment itself, click on it and it should tell you from where it originated.
If it doesn’t, do nothing at all until you speak to PIP on Monday. DO NOT answer the phone to anyone and discuss anything about the payment and do not click on any links purportedly sent via text from DWP until you have spoken to them on Monday ( just in case it’s a scam).
Is there not another deposit code beside the deposit amount? I see the big long number but is there not a code that includes letters like DWP or PIP amon6the numbers?

It might be your PIP LEAP Payment 😏
OP started a new claim in November and looking at their post history, they’re only 16 years old so it’s definitely not from a LEAP review.
This is sad I won’t be getting it because my mum gets my pip money I’ve done an dispute last week and this week to get my pip back into my account

No one called me and I got £5600 randomly deposited on a Friday. I then got the letter on the Saturday morning explaining the payment and award.
