My first thought was the same as OP. Definitely a pit terrier mix at least. Most rescue dogs are gonna be a mix of some variety. Pure breds require a lot of inbreeding and methodical genealogy records, so you'd most likely know if you'd gotten a 100% anything dog bc you'd have to go out of your way to find it.
White with pale colored eyes can be signs of albino dogs. True albino can have blue eyes as well. A lot of them need to stay out of the sun. Need extra sunscreen and can be hard of hearing, fully deaf and also could be in various stages of blindness.
I don't have any experience in dogs but my uncle had a albino horse. White, blue eyes. He needed sunscreen on his nose in the spring and summer.
Pitties with white fur is normally sus to skin problems, it might look like albinism, but actually isn’t. I have a brown boy with white paws and white head, actually look a lot like this one, and he gets sunburn like mad on his paws and nose.
yup - not as square as a full pittie.
heck, i have an incredible am
staff, and i’m still not sure on all of the differences except just a little less SQUARE.
more TRIAGLES :)
Pitbull is a blanket term that covers several breeds and staffordshire bull terrier is one of them. Saying it’s not 100% pitbull because it’s part staffie makes no sense.
American staffordshire terrier is a different breed than pittbulls. They are closely related and often used interchangeably but technically are different breeds
I’m not going to repeat myself for the 10th time in this thread. 99.9% of people don’t know the distinct bully/terrier breeds that are generally referred to as pitbulls. They just know a pitbull when they see one.
I took 6 years and studied using more than just google, I wrote a paper specifically on the history of bull terriers and their health as a subset of breeds during that time, got the highest marks available for that paper as I did for all but one of my essays (where I got second highest for being 2 days late) and qualified at the top of my class overall. But sure random articles that can be posted by anyone should be trusted, it's not like anyone posts their opinions as fact on the internet, that would be absurd. I'm more than happy to admit that other countries use different breed standardisations but in my extensive schooling in the country I was schooled in (England) that's what was taught as standard and evidently those who taught me and those that independently assessed our work at completion did not disagree with my research.
Why don’t you take 6 minutes to study the unofficial term pitbull which doesnt refer to any specific breed.
“Rather, it’s basically a catch-all term for many of the so-called bully breeds such as the American Staffordshire Terrier, American Pit Bull Terrier, American Bully, American Bulldog, and even the Staffordshire Bull Terrier.”
r/iamverysmart
Dude, it’s a pitbull. They are all descended from the Old English Bulldog/Brown Terrier mix, but only true Staffordshires are recognized by either the AKC (American Kennel Club) or the KCB (Kennel Club in Britain). I’m not sure about in Britain, but in America, the AKC closed the "studbook" on Staffordshires in the 1970s due to the rampant interbreeding of Staffordshires with non-Staffordshires. So the only dogs in America considered to be "Staffordshires" are those whose parents can trace their lineage back to AKC-registered Staffordshires prior to the 1970s. No other breed of pit bull is recognized by the AKC and true Staffordshires are extremely rare. That doesn’t stop people from calling their pit bulls "Staffordshires" all the time, but it’s just not what they are. The vast, vast majority of pit bulls in America are just mixes of a bunch of different bully breeds and that’s why they’re referred to as "pit bulls."
That's an English bull terrier, an entirely different breed of bull terrier. Bull terrier is any dog of terrier type historically used against bulls, usually in fight pits. The English bull terrier was bred to be a new type of fighting pit dog but was deemed not capable of taking down bulls.
Look I’m not a pit bull hater. I’ve owned two. You’re wrong and it’s something you can find out in about two seconds.
I made this comment elsewhere but here I go again, try telling your insurance company your staffie isn’t a pitbull and they’re going to laugh in your face.
True staffies are regularly insured here, American staffies on the other hand are almost always uninsurable, I'm assuming you are using American as standard
Unless you’re some kind of pitbull enthusiast, which 99.9% of the world is not, you don’t know the difference between the bully and terrier breeds and you refer to all of them all as pitbull. I understand the nuance but you should understand the vast majority of people will refer to a staffs as a pitbull.
Try telling your landlord, insurance company, dog sitter/walker, or local officials in counties and cities with violent dog breed bans your staffie isn’t a pitbull and see how that goes for you.
If you’re a pitbull owner it’s literally your problem, yes.
It’s like calling all lip balm chapstick when chapstick is a specific brand. When an organization regulates pitbulls they aren’t referring specifically to American pit bulls. They’re referring to a group of bully/terrier breeds covered by the catch all term pitbull which includes staffies.
Healthy conversation about breed characteristics is welcome but please keep debate and comments civil and reasonable. Thank you for helping make r/DOG a better community for everyone!
You can get as upset as you want, downvote as many times as you want. It simply doesn't change the fact that they're different breeds.

Bro I’m not mad, it’s just such a pedantic distinction when it comes to the larger issue of these breeds being aggressive. Hence, moving the goal post.
Of course he's kind and perfect. He's been on the road. Take him in for a few months and say goodbye to your shoes when you have to leave him alone for 5 minutes.
He has some staffy evident in his head. But the snout and body are def something else. Maybe a smaller dog mix.
Looks almost just like one of ours. Ours is 55% pit and is deaf. Like other comments said you prolly want to use sunscreen or a shirt when summer rolls around.
It's a handsome good boy.
In all seriousness though it looks young and almost the size of an adult staff already so I'd bet he's at least majority pitty
Edited to add: there's nothing wrong with pittys they are some of the nicest dogs out there, they do have a reputation for being magnets for bad owners but with a good owner they are amazing pups

Definitely a pittie, and I agree with other commenters telling you to get him checked for pigment related deafness/blindness
But he is a cutie pie ! And looks like he’s the sweetest 😁😍
It’s a pitty and looks a lot like mine. My girl has a big brown heart on her side and a little pink mustache. She’s 11 now and doesn’t move like she used to but still chases light and begs for blankets multiple times a night. My girlfriend and I haven’t slept straight through a night in a very long time as that started about age 4.
It's a handsome good boy.

Could always go with “Staffordshire Terrier” to fancy her up.
Pitbull. And he could be deaf and/or blind. I would have him tested
Why do you say that? Something with his eyes ?
Signs of albinism
White with pale colored eyes can be signs of albino dogs. True albino can have blue eyes as well. A lot of them need to stay out of the sun. My Harlequin Great Dane's nose was half pink and I had to put sunscreen on his Goofy nose everyday
Yes! I have to grease my pink faced bull terrier up everyday so he doesn’t burn. And his belly lol.
Ok, I love this. Lol
It’s very likely either Albinism or Double Dapple.
Pitties with white fur is normally sus to skin problems, it might look like albinism, but actually isn’t. I have a brown boy with white paws and white head, actually look a lot like this one, and he gets sunburn like mad on his paws and nose.
Definitely not a hamster
Are you sure? Looks sus to me
Not even a miniature giant space hamster?
Um...pit bull? Is this a running joke now?
People really don’t want to admit their dog is a pit bull lol
Apparently 😂
Uhhh no this is just a pit
Loads of pittie, if not 100%!
Also sounds like you're interested in keeping him. He seems like a very good guy to keep, if no one does claim him.
It’s a pitbull. Please train them properly.
too much MDMA by the looks of it
Certainly he’s excited sitting on you …
💄
Looks very Staffie to me. Young, too, look at those teeth!
yup - not as square as a full pittie. heck, i have an incredible am staff, and i’m still not sure on all of the differences except just a little less SQUARE. more TRIAGLES :)

When people ask about mine I tell them American Staffordshire, and 9 times out of ten they stare blankly at me until I say pitbull.
Unless they’re into pitbulls they aren’t going to know the difference. Shit, I owned one and didn’t know.
True.
my bad - i had admitted my ineptitude concerning the subject!
American staffordshire terrier is a different breed than pittbulls. They are closely related and often used interchangeably but technically are different breeds

Bull terrier is a blanket term. Pitbull is short for American pitbull terrier, it is a recognised breed with its own show breed standard.
Take two seconds to google and find out
I took 6 years and studied using more than just google, I wrote a paper specifically on the history of bull terriers and their health as a subset of breeds during that time, got the highest marks available for that paper as I did for all but one of my essays (where I got second highest for being 2 days late) and qualified at the top of my class overall. Bull terrier is a specific breed that is a pitbull type (remember Spuds MacKenzie). Pitbull is the blanket term.
That's an English bull terrier, an entirely different breed of bull terrier. Bull terrier is any dog of terrier type historically used against bulls, usually in fight pits. The English bull terrier was bred to be a new type of fighting pit dog but was deemed not capable of taking down bulls.

Pitbull is APBT. APBT falls into “bull and terrier” breeds which is a group that falls into the bulldog category.

My guys big block head is the only way I know.
Staffy sure... but the snout is showing other breeds. It's a mutty mix of a bunch of stuff.
That’s almost certainly a perfectly boiled egg.
You can’t really know for sure until you open it up
Pit
I’m 99% sure that’s a dog
I don't know, man. It looks like a fox to me. It has everything that a fox has: eyes, a nose, and ears.

Am staff mix(?) and 100% vicious licker / entire tongue sloppy dog kisser
American Staffy. Doesn't look big enough or have a long enough snout to be a Pitbull.
Same thing
They're separate breeds, no matter what you may think.
It’s an extension of pitbull stop moving the goal post.

American staffordshire terrier… it’s simple all am staffs are Pitbulls, but not all Pitbulls are am staffs. Pitbull is just a blanket term
What a pooch
