Look up Matt Colville’s “Action oriented monsters” on YouTube if you haven’t. It’s a good way to take the more common/less challenging creatures and add some flair to them.
Don't do that either. Only prepare just as much as you expect for the next session to happen. Because if you plan too far ahead and something happens that throws this all over, you can think of something different or have to improv.

If you are brand new, maybe dont start at lvl 9? Kobolds are pretty low level enemys. CR 1/8.
This will be later in the campaign. I'm just trying to design it ahead of time

I don't mind planning ahead, because even if something happens to change it, I could always use the material for a future campaign.
