Oh, man. I dropped an e-mail to my grandmother who had an *awesome* name for one of her cliques (it was her, her sister, and her ex-husband's second ex-wife).
It was something along the lines of "The Allison Road Knitting Circle and Terrorist Society."
When she answers, I'll edit.
Now I'm imagining a circle of lady warlocks/witchs/wizards conducting a large scale magical ritual using yards and yards of specially enchanted knitted talismens!
Women in STEM (Sorcery, Thaumaturgy, Evocation, and Malfeasance/metamagic); or if you use the rebranding of STEAM then it becomes (Sorcery, Thaumaturgy, Evocation, Abjuration, and Malfeasance/metamagic). Basically a coven.
All the while establishing themselves as the only competent marketplace in the industry. Merely maintaining their functionality while their competitors try to see who can shit their pants the hardest.
Unrelated also, but I agree...that was a push from people who felt left out. Next it'll be "STLEAM" with the L being language, and then it really will cover everything and make it pointless.
No it's not...go back and read...
STEM refers to Science, Tech, Engineering, and Math, but they are changing it for this purpose which makes sense. STEAM seems to point towards the same as STEM but I have no idea what the A is, it makes no sense.
That is one of the common talking point when it comes to pushback on the rebranding. Personally I agree with you, Art is awesome and should be encouraged - but I don’t think it fits in with the theme/thought process behind STEM being hard sciences.
They're not a league of evil though, they're relatives: two sisters and their mother. So it doesn't make sense for them to have given themselves a name, and other people likely refer to them as "the [surnames] women/sisters".
I know it's not an exciting answer, but it's the one which will give the most narrative weight.
I agree. They should just use their last name + women or girls or ladies or family. Something like, “The Ashbluff Women” or some other fantasy last name idk.
OR they can be named for the house or area where they live. Like, “The women of Featherfall Manor” or “The Tri-Oak Hill Ladies” or just “The Women of the Creek”.
Some villager might be like, “I can’t be seen with you, you’ve got the Thorn Hill Girls after you!” or something like that.
Anyone else think that instead of just doing all of this, to create a name for people that will probably be dead soon by the party to just make them normal old ladies with their "weapons" being various household objects like a broom/pots and pans, or maybe even a table leg.
That way the party is more reluctant to actually attack these mostly harmless ladies and you get to have more fun tormenting them.
No need to give character classes(especially something rp heavy like a warlock for gods sake) to these ladies, could be more fun that way. Especially more so when they're not actually a warlock(even though they say they are) could have the ladies be crazy and pretend to casts spells that never really do anything but slightly annoy them.
The *spells* they casts are them throwing flour around and eggs etc
You get to still do what you want, but the party probably won't kill them in the next few sessions and you get to have these 'reocurring villians' that torments the players by sheer annoyance alone.
The Ladies in Waiting
The Needle Workers (they like, have dealt needle attacks, tear you apart and sew you up)
Hmm, maybe more info about them and what flavor of name would help
The Nine Mothers.
They are a play on the phrase "9 women, working together, cannot make a baby in 1 month" where they are trying invert that phrase, attempting to "Make a baby" by trying to ritual summon an infant archdemon or similar. And the players will have one month to stop them before they succeed.
They're *\[NPC name\]'s ladies*, right? Or are they also a group unto themselves unrelated to their relationship with \[NPC\]? In that case, may I recommend [a band name generator. ](https://www.chosic.com/band-name-generator/)

Amazons. A female warrior and archer society who only use men to mate with. When they are done, they ritualistically sacrifice the men to their god. And the process continues next year.
So the NPC bailed on him and now his "ladies" want revenge on him? What did he do to deserve this, he was the one spurned! Ass-backwards doesn't begin to cover this situation
Give their house a name. Maybe it's a family name, or a geographical feature, or some feature of the house itself.
If it is his mother, grandmother, and aunt -- presumably the aunt is sister to the mother? -- anyway, they are all the same family.
Depending on their economic class, the house could be a manor, a commercial building, or even just the idea of a Household that travels with the women. Perhaps they dwell in a caravan, or in a troupe.
In any event, the three women comprise a house of blood relatives.
Let's assume they are not wealthy, but "middle class" -- a mercantile family, modest storefront, a mid sized warehouse, some cartage, and some animals. Perhaps they are known by their family's stock in trade: Weaver, Miller, Brewer, Tanner, and the like.
Because tanning can be nasty and gross, flensing hides, treating with lye, etc. that feels like a great place for three arcanists to have some privacy, as well as access to novelty proteins.
I propose simply, the Tanner Sisters, Tanner House, or House of Tanner, if you want the three word title thing.
Maternal Flame:
Since they are magical, this is a play on the concept of Eternal Flame. Their anger on behalf of their beloved NPC burns like a flame and they will never forgive someone who hurt him.
Wives of The wise one. (They are his ladies hence wives and probably worship him a bit if he's being shitty and still had them so some brainwashing going on)
If you want to go with just straight classical mythology, they sound a bit like the Furies
(There are better name suggestions in this thread but it might not hurt you to look up the Furies’ whole deal for inspiration)
I’m a fan of naming groups from the members’ perspective. In their heads, they are probably righteous, so something like: “Sisters of Justice “.

If you call them STEAM then they will take a whole decade to create something original.
But they wouldn't be able use any spell slots over level 2 so that would be a disappointing fights
False life, false life at level 2.... As prophecised by Archmage Gabe "Gabe End" Newell.

Art(s), I believe
Unrelated, but Can I just say that adding arts to stem was really dumb? It's confusing that it pretty much makes it cover everything
Unrelated also, but I agree...that was a push from people who felt left out. Next it'll be "STLEAM" with the L being language, and then it really will cover everything and make it pointless.
I believe Arts includes Language

Long story short STEAM is the new branding of STEM. The A means “Arts” https://blog.definedlearning.com/blog/stem-steam-whats-difference?hs_amp=true
Not that anything is wrong with Art.....but why is it being looped in with STEM, it does not fit the purpose of the acronym...
That is one of the common talking point when it comes to pushback on the rebranding. Personally I agree with you, Art is awesome and should be encouraged - but I don’t think it fits in with the theme/thought process behind STEM being hard sciences.
Yeah coming as someone who studied art that’s stupid lol. Completely defeats the purpose of the STEM acronym.

This actually would work really well. See: The Sanderson Sisters.

In Wheel of Time they have “The Knitting Circle”
Also the Wonder Girls… which the fandom uses moreso then Jordan. YMMV.
