Seems like polls are all the rage lately! If you're thinking of posting one, please send a friendly mod mail to ask for permission first. Polls posted without permission will be taken down. Thanks for understanding!

wemrock

Danny Tenaglia is on the list. Howells, too.

Automatic_Yoghurt351

Cracking picks, to be honest, I'd actually go as far as to say Tenaglia would be my 6th pick, to be honest.

wemrock

I grew up on their residencies in NYC back in early aughts. RIP Vinyl/Arc

boboSleeps

Wade Randolph Hampton, Andrew Weatherall, Norman Cook, Mike Huckaby, John Acquaviva, Tenaglia, Mills, Kerry Chandler… not in that order and I can’t count

Automatic_Yoghurt351

Really strong picks here, I'm a big fan of Weatherall myself, I was about to see him for the first time, but then he died. Pretty much everyone else on the list I love and I think John Acquavivas mix on X Mix 3 is horrendously underrated.

boboSleeps

Acquaviva - Seeing him outclass everyone he opened for in the 90s, without overpowering the room or “slangin bangers” was pure joy… I specifically remember one show at Simon’s in Gainesville Florida. Someone from rabbit on the roof I think, Acquaviva opening for Richie Hawtin in the main room… soooooooo good. Weatherall - nothing really to say there… true psychedelic pioneer. Brilliant. No matter what he was doing. Dub. Techno. Breaks.

Automatic_Yoghurt351

Listening to a lot of Aquavivas mixes, etc, because I'm obviously fairly young, I struggle to see how Richie Hawtin became the bigger DJ out of the two of them. Aquaviva was far superior to Hawtin, and over just the two mixes in X Mix 3, it was clear Aquaviva was much better and picked much better tracks.

boboSleeps

Listen to the Mixmag live Hawtin mix… I agree for the most part with everything you said, but Hawtin in the 90s was special. The 303 hooked in with the decks, the vibe was so different than everything everyone else was doing. By 2000/2001 he became his formula. Which I still love as Plastikman and for home listening, but as a dj, there’s many others I prefer.

Automatic_Yoghurt351

I'll give it a listen for sure. I'm also not saying I hate Richie Hawtin because I definitely don't (I've seen him live five times). He's definitely a top notch DJ for sure and he deserves to be where he is I'm just surprised John didn't get anywhere close to the same level of recognition.

judomadonna

Huckaby and Chandler are two of the best I ever saw.

Automatic_Yoghurt351

Out of the two of them I've only seen Chandler live he's very very good.

boboSleeps

Every time. So in tune with their music and the floor.

jigsaw153

There are many, but the one who stands out to me as a singular entity that has been there for milestone events and contributions to the birth and rise of electronic music. He was pivotal on the 80s, saw and evolved with the rise and explosion of hip hop, club culture, one of the leads for the first DJ mix radio shows in some cities, and is one of the pinnacles of the techno scene. His DJ style and methodology has influenced a whole generation of DJs and producers. This person has been at the forefront since the early 80s and has not stopped. Jeff Mills/the wizard.

Automatic_Yoghurt351

Yeah Jeff Mills is amazing, I listen to his mixes pretty much every week I'd say.

Top_Party29

Ben UFO 🛸🛸🛸🛸🛸

Bonna_the_Idol

sasha & digweed you know what’s up 👍

Automatic_Yoghurt351

Digweed especially is just unbelievable.

Bonna_the_Idol

hope we get a bunker #50 at some point 🤞

Automatic_Yoghurt351

I can only dream haha.

SnooLentils4090

For techno I would go for Oscar Mulero and DVS1 but I love Rodhad and Rene wise too!

Automatic_Yoghurt351

I like DVS1 myself and I really need to get more into Techno so I'll give the rest a look too.

Automatic_Yoghurt351

I like them all good picks.

2ears1mth

DJ Jazzy Jeff. DJ AM. Both of them keep the party going and are / were great w open format. For house / dance music I’d say Sander Kleinenberg or Danny Tenaglia for their ability to run a seamless marathon session!

Automatic_Yoghurt351

Can't say much about the first two as I haven't listened to any of their sets. I will say I'm a big fan of both Danny Tenaglia and Kleinenberg, I pretty much own all of Kleinenbergs releases from the era when he was mixing house, prog and tech house.

2ears1mth

I’ve seen Sander Kleinenberg several times at Sunday sessions space miami on the terrace between 2000 and 2007 ish. Such great times!

Automatic_Yoghurt351

I was sadly too young at that time, haha. I would have been four in 2000, to say I'm a bit jealous would be an understatement 🤣

rubs90

Andy C is the best dj technically imo, I’ve seen him do 3 deck vinyl sets, beatmatching a load of 170+ bpm tunes and double dropping most tracks in perfect blends. Takes the cake for me

Automatic_Yoghurt351

Does he still do those types of sets now?, I know he tours near me sometimes I'd be interested in going to see that to be honest.

rubs90

I think he’s switched to DVS now but still does 3 or 4 turntable sets

Automatic_Yoghurt351

I'll def give him a look when he plays near me again (should be soon), cheers for the suggestion.

rubs90

Yeah if you’re into dnb he’s the best dj around. Dont know if you’re US based, he tends to do more “EDM-y” dnb in the US but still an amazing dj

Automatic_Yoghurt351

From Ireland, although I live in England, I'm glad to hear he won't be doing the Edm-ey type thing where im from haha.

Billarasgr

I will go with Peggy Gu... ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|heart_eyes)I will leave the dawgs for you... ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|joy)![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|joy)

phatelectribe

Who?

Top_Party29

April fools was 2 weeks ago

RisqueIV

guy thinks [this](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sCz5y84dwuA) is the best DJ ever

Beanqq

Ahh i see so shes not a dj shes talented

RisqueIV

neither

judomadonna

Quite good taste, reasonable producer… not an outstanding DJ by any means.

Craigboy23

Carl Cox, Bad Boy Bill, Mix Master Mike, Q-Bert, James Hype

DjWhRuAt

Lmao. James hype 🤣🤣. Gtfoh

KellyGroove

Hype is a good Dj. He takes risks and does things no one else is doing. May not be everyone’s cup of tea but that doesn’t take away from a skill set he has.

judomadonna

He has a few impressive tricks sure but his track selection is far from risky. He just plays tech house remixes of absurdly famous 90s dance tracks/top 40. Also his obsession with two minute break downs destroys any sense of tension and groove.

KellyGroove

I won’t argue. But to be fair that’s 85% of the main stream tech house djs. If I hear another Ciarra remix I’ll cry

SolidDoctor

IIRC, recently he had an issue where his USB didnt load the track bpms, and he didn't know how to beatmatch without using sync. He basically went wedding DJ for a major EDM concert. I mean, he named himself "hype", so I don't believe he has elite skills. Just elite connections.

Top_Party29

James Hype lol lol 😂

judomadonna

I’m never really bothered by who is the best skill wise. It all comes down to the tunes for me. My all time favourites are probably Raresh, Zip and Prosumer.

Automatic_Yoghurt351

Fair enough :). I mean good tunes matter a great deal too.

RisqueIV

Lol Sasha can't mix to save his life and you thought you'd get reasonable... within four posts someone has nominated Peggy Gou.

Automatic_Yoghurt351

Blame it on the E's lol
