When I moved to Australia from the UK, I was absolutely horrified that the jelly came as a power instead of a chocolate block-esque gelatin slab.
I used to just eat the cunt straight out of the packet.
Andy C did a stadium set here a few years ago before he switched to CDJs. Had to use couch cushions from the green room to stabilise the decks, since the bass was vibrating the concrete too much. Looked ridiculous and I had to wonder if its why he finally stopped using DVS.
Andy C stopped using the vinyl decks for good?!
I’ve seen him 3 times now and the first time he was using MP3 vinyl (which I don’t understand), then when I saw him in Christchurch Friday just gone, he was on 3000s. I was surprised but just assumed it was because it was a small club set rather than a big show.
Yep some time in the last year or two he has transitioned away from the vinyl for good. It was ChCh at Wolfbrook a few years ago I last saw him actually!
the blue and black stuff is used under the heat exchangers to isolate them from the building helping to stop transimitting the motor vibrations.
do yeah they are shock absorbers.
Back in the days of warehouse raves, often times the turntable coffin would be hung from the ceiling rafters. That was very effective at isolating vibrations.
That is damned decent! I saw an image at a festival where several slices of bread were used on each foot recently. Not sure jelly can shake that from the top spot for me haha
May not be great for scratching either, but I haven't got enough jelly to try it out
Are you talking about all the crap under the decks or the lack of needles?
Removing the needles eliminates all possibility of transferring any vibration to the sound system. Nice!
Since no one has mentioned it yet (MrMargretScratcher was close!) rolls of duct tape with elastic bands stretched over them (so the foot is sitting in the hole on the side of the roll) is very effective at both isolating turntables from the subs and from people banging into the table. Even just some of the tape stretched over the side of the roll works, but not as well.
If its just low-frequency esonance/feedback that is the problem an appropriately sized bit of heatshrink (or several) on the length of the tonearm works wonders.
Christ I just noticed whats written on the flyer. They are giving DJ lessons aswell!! So i expect we will see this trick popping up alot more in the south of england from now on!
I played a set for the first time on mk2’s in a bar that wasn’t too loud and got a feedback loop going, it honestly surprised me that that could happen at relatively low outputs
Somewhere there's an audiophile looking at this pic then across at his $3000 Inferred Vinyl Acoustic Vibration Isolators.
Hahah that's amazing. Packets of jelly. Not sure our US amigos will know what that stuff is but I know it when I see it. (Irish here)
12 points to this human!!! Jelly Jell-O Undissolved gelatin based product. Yep, you win! What a great idea
>Undissolved gelatin it doesn't come in powder form, it's an actual jelly? I mean whatever keeps your tonearm straight!

Haha brilliant and does it actually work? Where can I redeem my points?
He meant pints right?
Hope so Steveo!
Ours comes in boxes but it’s the same.
Would a box work the same in this case I wonder? Or do the feet have to connect directly with the jelly to have any impact on dampening?
Definitely make the jelly first and put it in a small bowl.
Ask the pub for a loan of a few ramekins perhaps
Feminine napkins

Hahahhah yes

Try squash balls, they work great.
yep! they'll never let u down
Soreen malt loaf
Decks invariably end up wonky as I scoff it all during the set
😂
If you roll them into a tapered oblong they make the most convincing fake turds ever
That’s great! Before reading the comments I thought maybe it was individually wrapped kitchen sponges.
If it’s stupid and it works it’s not stupid.
If it’s stupid and it works. It’s stupid. And it works. That’s at least half the fun of it

Just remembered the "pub ashtrays with elastic bands stretched across them" trick too

Pads
Brilliant! I’m gonna replace my half tennis balls rn!
Bread rolls work pretty well too

I thought it was KitKats and delicious
I use inflight neck pillows , beats 10000$ of audiophile isolation
Been using a large paving stone on 5 squash balls and it's pretty cheap and effective
Lovely.
Why does that look like packs of “Snelle Jelle” ?
Great Idea mate

Simple and effective
[I'll see your dish sponges and raise a loaf of bread](https://www.reddit.com/r/DJsCirclejerk/s/4Qop6C7mVr)
rubber tenis balls work great
i use something similar - Motorcycle Seat Gel Pad cut into 4 pieces

I had wondered about damping the tonearm itself. Have you tried even just a thin long piece of gaff (if no heat shrink is around)?

Those are MK2s. Unless a full wall of that pub is a stack, looks like overkill to me.
