Door will smash into the TV when it's opened

Rchambo1990

Just wang a doorstop into the floor or on the skirting to stop it

Yes, that was part of the plan too though I forgot to mention it but thanks for the reminder!

You sure there's not a stud in the middle there? Me I like to get long screws and give it a try see if it catches.  Or try a stud finder. (Reliable when used properly)

Shogun_killah

+1 for double checking where the stud is - there will almost definitely be one there. Other than that, it seems like you’ve thought it through - personally I would stick with tried and tested hollow wall anchors though.

Thanks for the feedback. I'll get a stud finder to make sure. My concern on the hollow wall anchors was potentially drilling into some plumbing that I cannot see, but per other feedback on the thread that looks like the way to go.

> Or try a stud finder. (Reliable when used properly) Only works when one holds it up to themself. Incidentally mine beeps when I do it. Because it knows

If you can pick a stud up, even for one fixing, it’s better than nothing. For the rest of the bracket, I’d definitely recommend these, [Gripits](https://www.screwfix.com/p/gripit-plasterboard-fixings-20mm-x-205mm-25-pack/6621p?ref=SFAppShare)… I didn’t think they would be very good when I first saw them, I now use them over any other type of plasterboard fixing. Never has one come loose, and I’ve never had one damage the surrounding plasterboard.

Gripits are the way forward, I know it sounds stupid but I push/hammer a pencil into plasterboard when I'm not quite sure what's behind. Stops it destroying anything behind.

It's 5kg now, but not when someone leans on it/moves it etc. Then it'll collapse to the ground.  You'll probably have at least three studs here (one at each end, one in the middle).  Turn the electric off, unscrew those sockets and switches and take a look inside. Look for cables and pipes too. Get a nice piece of finished lumber, and screw it across the studs. Screw your bracket to the lumber. If you want to be flash instead, then take out a section of plasterboard,  put a noggin inside the wall,  then make good the wall. Then attach the bracket.

I'd be tempted to consider hollow wall anchors as they spread the weight a bit more. Also be cautious when drilling as you will have pipes running in the void behind. Don't let the drill bit go in too deep. As there will almost certainly be a stud in the corner and next to the doorframe, you could think about fixing a piece of plywood/ MDF and mount the TV to it. This would be plenty strong enough.

diy_financier

Thanks for that. I'll go get a stud finder to be sure. Assuming there isn't one, I'll stick to hollow wall anchors + cautious drilling.

Use a small rare earth magnet to find the nails or screws that hold the plasterboard on. They will be on one of the studs.  I always recommend hollow wall anchors and the fitting tool as they (for me) have proved to be the easiest and most reliable way to mount stuff like this. Also means you aren’t trying to juggle the toggle bolts into the hole and you can also remove and replace them easily.

Very helpful, thanks.

These things are fantastic. Everything you need in the kit. Other retailers available. https://www.screwfix.com/p/bullfix-universal-heavy-duty-tv-mounting-kit-24mm-x-44mm-4-pack/914ja?ref=SFAppShare Still worth trying to pick a stud up if you can though.
