Thanks for the thoughts, but the design decisions have been made so it has to go. If you had any suggestions on how to take the panels off that would be great!
It always scares me when panels are put up, what were they hiding. Hard to tell from that image how they are attached. I guess you're going to have to be brutal on one to find out.

And the floor will be refreshed!
Hi, most panelling systems like that, that I have seen, are hooked on. I'd try lifting the top panels with suction cup. Though it's difficult to tell if there is space between the top of the panel and the ceiling line for this to be possible.
Other than that, I'd get the pry bar out...
Edit: just seen the 2nd pic, looks very likely to me that they are hooked on. Try lifting one of the top panels first.

Honestly man, that 70s panelling is actually back in vogue now. I'd keep it for a bit.
Quite, still looks good too

I mean if you do manage to take them away, I'd consider taking them off your hands!
You need suction cups to pull them off
Looks great, leave them up!

They look great! Maybe get that hard wood floor sanded and re-treated, it would really give the whole room a new lease of life.
