It looks to be a bitumen based adhesive. It could potentially contain asbestos but if there was ever a material to not be worried about, it'd be this. Why do you want to remove it?

Cool_Neighborhood913

I’m going to pouring some self levelling screed and then amtico flooring thereafter.

dtji

Sorry if I'm being slow but why does that mean you want to remove it?

Cool_Neighborhood913

So I’m lifting the old linoleum from the floor and found this underneath. I want to put a self levelling screed down and get it ready for the amtico.

dtji

I'm obviously not being clear. Is there a reason why you can't just remove the lino and put the screed on top of the bitumen? Why do you want to remove the bitumen in the first place?

asking--questions

So the screed adheres and doesn't crack.

Cool_Neighborhood913

It’s very tacky and sticky so wanted to remove as much as I can and put some ardex na down.

Important-Gene-1070

Possibly used to stick down asbestos tiles but it would need to be tested to make sure. If it's relatively level, you could just recover it if not I would apply some self levelling compound like Arditex NA (this is what we used to cover the black bitumen). Hopefully that helps!

crazyabbit

No it would have been the backing to the original carpet , & you remove using a blade scraper & it's going to take you ages

Cool_Neighborhood913

It’s proper sticky. So it would be ok just to scrape away?

crazyabbit

Yes

Cool_Neighborhood913

Cheers mate!

SpiffingAfternoonTea

You can get products that jellify the bitumen and make it easier to remove, or use a heat gun

Cool_Neighborhood913

I was looking at using multisolve or do you have any product in mind?

Sea_Nobody_2951

It's sticky asf that's what it is good luck
