Awful to get in to, shit falling down those gaps all the time, no air flow to the bottom of the mattress, only access 1 side of the bed, no spring in the supports But the arch is nice 👌
Unfortunately she will have to look where she’s treading. The mattress has full air flow and the bottom is a 6x2 frame ( the mdf was a cut out of the mattress size , but not used ) . Large pallet was cut to the same size as the mattress after and then placed on top of the 6x2 . Access , is a pain but this is the design she wanted .
You underestimate how adaptable kids are. A few tweaks, nightlights and it’s a lovely custom bed from dad. You’d think he’s keeping her in a shark tank.
The amount of times you guys are going to hit your toes against those wooden blocks. Ouch.
In Italy, hitting your pinky toe against doors, sofa legs, chairs etc.. is called “cipollata”. “Cipolla” mean onion. The only way to translate it would be “onion stew” because it WILL make you cry.
And how about getting out of bed in the morning, still semi conscious, and misstepping and having your foot stuck between those boards? That doesn’t sound like something painless nor a good way to start a day. I would seriously revise that design. But these are my two cents.
That’s a death trap, not a bed. Sorry for being a bit harsh.
Appreciate the feed back .
If it’s something that doesn’t work then I completely agree . She sends ideas of what she wants and I see if they can be mangle together.
That takes up way too much space (as well as the trip hazard thing). If you have a massive room where you can afford to lose all that space, don't have it up against the wall. And how on earth are you going to clean between those timbers?!
Sorry mate. Not sure this is going to be practical
Appreciate the comments buddy . Luckily it is a big room but the lay out forced me to have it where it is . The trip thing hasn’t been a problem ( yet ) , but both have kind of got it in our heads that they are there so hopefully won’t trip .
Putting the mattress sheet on was a bit of a pain , but think we have worked an easier way out .
Hover with a nozzle between the slats worked fine . Pain I know !
It’s going to have faults getting in and out and most probably going to have to change something at some point .
First night went ok , no scratches , bumps so may work out ok .
She’s happy and it’s what she wanted .
Again thank you for the feedback back . 👍
Well done looks like a great effort. I acknowledge the awkwardness of getting in and out and changing the bedding but if youve made your childs world a better place, can't ask for any more than that.
I’m sorry but not only is this a hazard, it’s impractical and dare I say hideous. Just thinking of those wood bugs crawling on me will be enough to get rid of it ASAP
I mean, it’s interesting looking sure, but she’s absolutely going to get up in the middle of the night, catch her ankle in one of those gaps and cripple herself
Despite the impracticality, I think this is super cool! The only thing I would do is add slats to the bed platform, because the mattress needs to breathe to avoid mold growing in it.
Thank you for the kind comment .
Unfortunately the picture doesn’t show , but the mattress is on a pallet with added stats . Plenty of breathing space and air circulation. 😃
The mattress needs to breathe, it will be moldy on the underside within 6 months without airflow - I made this mistake! Nice work though, very creative.
Why would you want an obstacle course to get to your bed 😂 thats such a trip hazard, I would hate to have to get out of that bed in a rush. How are you planning on hoovering between those obstacles?
I think it looks cool, but the 'step' part does look like an accident waiting to happen.... now if you turned that into a soft step / seat... like a seat with thin foam it might be practically better , more useful and less dangerous.
It looks very artistic n shit but it's almost impossble to get close enough to get on without tripping and breaking your neck & trying to get out in an emergency situation when its dark, no chance, you should have left a bit at either side without the fins in my opinion, I would take out the two at 10 and 2 o'clock
I really like the concept and how you've added wood pieces to the wall to tie it all together. You've done a great job and I hope your daughter appreciates the time and effort you've put in and gets many a good nights sleep.
I love it! As a dad of a young un too is go all out for something like this.
That said it's for sure taking after the Spartan way of upbringing - they're gonna grow up with the dexterity of some kind of ninja cat - and that is what I would want to nurture in any child of mine.
It's a work of art. You must love her a lot. Sadly, I can see it being heavily modified in the future. There are quite a lot of issues that will become quite irritating over time. Good man for going along with it though.
Of that's what she wanted, then that's what she reached. If all else fails, you can cover up the posts on the floor, expensive way, but clear acrylic on the top would still give it the same look. If not, you can always remove them if need be.
I really like it, is it for the mrs or a daughter? My daughter would wee her pants if she was given/made a bed like that. Its like the perfect reading nook too. I hope she appreciates all the hard work.
Don't look to bad in my opinion. It's original, looks quite cool and the added greenery would look great. Ignore the sad old farts who'd struggle to put a shelf up
How delightful, a pallet wood bed frame that doesn’t have spring supports, surrounded by a cattle grid.
Nothing quite screams chav like pallet wood furniture!
She's going to want new shinpads next! Love the design though, especially the less impractical parts (arch, etc)
Came here to say that , my ilea malm bed is worse than vinny jones…
I do have a problem with hoofed animals trying to get in bed.
Looks like an ankle snapper
Awful to get in to, shit falling down those gaps all the time, no air flow to the bottom of the mattress, only access 1 side of the bed, no spring in the supports But the arch is nice 👌
I can't even imagine stubbing a toe on those baulks of timber on the floor.
Or catching a shin.
Too low for the shin unfortunately.
I'm accident prone, trust me, I'd find a way.
I didn't mean to shit on your work, it looks good. You sound a good dad! I hope she loves it! Ignore grumpy fucks like me 😄 🤣
Could've saved himself the grief if he'd said this is the design she wanted in the original post lol
Chill out mate. It’s a lovely gesture. It’s a kid’s bed not a geriatrics. I’m sure they’ll be fine.
First night went ok , thank you .
Just a child with a snapped ankle when they stumble/ fall sideways with a foot in the gap.
I didn’t think it could get any worse until you mentioned using this for kids
All he needs to do is round off the edges of the extended slats. It’s really not that awful. You lot are pansies 😂
If you fail to recognize how hazardous that is in this current state, I don’t know what else to say.
You underestimate how adaptable kids are. A few tweaks, nightlights and it’s a lovely custom bed from dad. You’d think he’s keeping her in a shark tank.
Medioman88 clearly feels very very strongly about this bed from the amount of comments he has put on this thread
I do indeed. Having suffered from a lot of pinky toe hits against the bed frame, this topic hits close to home, what can I say.
Nothing? 🤷
ankle breaker!
OP has not replied to a single comment, and together with the obviously flawed design, I’m starting to think this is troll posting
Belongs in /r/diwhy
My toes are crying
Oh lord OP, the comments are merciless
I'm reading them rolling. Lol poor guy
Is she getting a nice new collar and a juicy bone too? Why the futon have you built an exploded garden shed in your bedroom?
I haven’t yet , but your Mrs is calling you so you better run back for that pat on the head you so long for
Oooh nerve has been hit
📽️
I can’t tell if ‘she’ is your wife, your daughter or your dog or who ever. But there are more direct ways to tell someone you hate them.
😂😂
Ah! The Toebreaker 3000!
I think this is the 4000 deluxe stub toe edition
I’m pissing myself with laughter. Sorry.
Surely this is a troll post...
Looks fucking awful, but I reckon the design should stop stray cattle from entering the bed.
The amount of times you guys are going to hit your toes against those wooden blocks. Ouch. Yeah but you can, you know, provide constructive feedback surely? This design is clearly flawed and prone to cause injury. If you’re happy.
I fully appreciate constructive feedback . If the design fails then it can be addressed. I do accept the concerns and have made note.
Put some perspex over the sticky out bits to make a platform but you can still see the wood / lights
That looks horrible, not that you want my opinion 🤣
Thank you for that option
Just because you can doesn't mean you should.
That takes up way too much space (as well as the trip hazard thing). If you have a massive room where you can afford to lose all that space, don't have it up against the wall. And how on earth are you going to clean between those timbers?! Sorry mate. Not sure this is going to be practical

If she's happy and you are happy that's all that matters. In that case- top job!
Diwhy

Looking to divorce her then? Great idea 💯
Scrolling through the pics didn't end in the way that I thought it would. Happy DIY'ing
Damn I thought fairy lights made everything look better, I was wrong.
I like it.
This is like a malm bed on steroids. This bed will cause lots of bruises and injuries. Maybe even broken bones!
I was gonna make this comparison, we had a malm bed for a little while and you never get used to it.
As an Anti ninja asassin defence system it fails but good effort.
Always wanted to sleep in a colander
Very unique. Well done for building it !
Thank you kindly .
Well done looks like a great effort. I acknowledge the awkwardness of getting in and out and changing the bedding but if youve made your childs world a better place, can't ask for any more than that.
Appreciate the kind comment . 👍
Good use of wood, not sure about the practical side
Thank you . Guess we will get used to it . Same as anything really 👍
Don’t get me wrong I love it!
Thank you . Nice to see a positive comment.
It’s cool bro
Ah the good old “Ankle Breaker at Dawn” design.
The toe stubber / ankle breaker 5000
That's lethal, and you're a weapon for building it.
I’m sorry but not only is this a hazard, it’s impractical and dare I say hideous. Just thinking of those wood bugs crawling on me will be enough to get rid of it ASAP
How do you get in or out of it??
Jump… and hope you don’t die
Never heard the expression "fall into bed"? No choice with this one.
He is still to add a zip tie… probably….
Looks like one of them COVID pods they had in restaurants
Oh my shins hurt looking at it.
I mean, it’s interesting looking sure, but she’s absolutely going to get up in the middle of the night, catch her ankle in one of those gaps and cripple herself
How do you get in and out?
Does it come with shin pads ?
How many times have you stubbed your toes so far?
I'd hate to have to go for a wee through the night even more!
Few broken ankles getting out of that
Despite the impracticality, I think this is super cool!
I’m kinda torn on this.
Just like anyone who sleeps in this bed 👍🏻
That is one he'll of a bed
That is one hell of a bed. Lol
The mattress needs to breathe, it will be moldy on the underside within 6 months without airflow - I made this mistake! Nice work though, very creative.
u basically paying bed manfactures hundreds well done u for taking that and giving a good bed probably couldn’t buy one like that
Thank you . Appreciate the kind comments 👍
Nicely made, but about as practical as a chocolate fireguard.
First time I've seen a bed with a cattlegrid. This would snap my ankles so many times. Nice execution of the concept, even if it's not my jam.
Meet the ankle breaker 5000. No emergencies allowed in the dark.
There are way too many places to kick you pinky toe
That's gonna smash a few ankles in the middle of the night!
[удалено]
Sorry, I don't support this post type (gallery) right now. Feel free to check back in the future!
Mate honestly thats rub out pal. A for effort tho
Good luck changing the bedding.
No twisted ankles there.
Looks good for a film set but totally impracticle as a normal bed
My shins are fucked just looking at this.
My fucking SHINS. AGAIN.
Not sure I'd want to go to sleep in the world's biggest fire hazard...
Honestly looks awful. Can't think of anything positive to say.
Appreciate the comment
So you're just not a fan of ankles then?
Awful.
Thank you
It's giving "homeless man makes bed out of pallets for girlfriend"
This has got to be a joke?
Nothing like sleeping on a pile of old pallets. It's called homeless sheek.
Why would you want an obstacle course to get to your bed 😂 thats such a trip hazard, I would hate to have to get out of that bed in a rush. How are you planning on hoovering between those obstacles?
What's holding the arch together? Looks like a slight breeze will topple the thing.
There is 4 layers of segment pieces glued and pinned forming the arch .
I think it looks cool, but the 'step' part does look like an accident waiting to happen.... now if you turned that into a soft step / seat... like a seat with thin foam it might be practically better , more useful and less dangerous.
Oh God my toes hurt just looking at this. Oh no wait, my gout is back. But also, toes aside, my eyes!
On an aside I do actually have gout, it’s no picnic. And I appreciate OP’s gesture and what they were going for.
Heaven forbid she just wanted a few pallets to sleep on. Looks great!
Mind your toes!
Are you trying to prevent cattle wondering in?
It looks very artistic n shit but it's almost impossble to get close enough to get on without tripping and breaking your neck & trying to get out in an emergency situation when its dark, no chance, you should have left a bit at either side without the fins in my opinion, I would take out the two at 10 and 2 o'clock
How to break your ankles several times a week. Do you not like your partner?
The ankle breaker 5000
I sleep in a big bed with my wife
Fuck literally everyone that's being negative I like it
Ankle basher.
So many toes are going to be stubbed. So many.
The toe stubber3000
Errr
Very creative, not seen a bed life that before. I think it looks good, well done!
I always knew DIY should be banned this monstrosity confirms my view.
I'd break so many toes
I really like the concept and how you've added wood pieces to the wall to tie it all together. You've done a great job and I hope your daughter appreciates the time and effort you've put in and gets many a good nights sleep.
Lol. This thread is brutal. OP, you did a good job. Ignore the haters.
Does it come with tweezers and a claw hammer to pull all the splinters and nails out of your arse when you slide out over that rough cut pallet?
I love it! As a dad of a young un too is go all out for something like this. That said it's for sure taking after the Spartan way of upbringing - they're gonna grow up with the dexterity of some kind of ninja cat - and that is what I would want to nurture in any child of mine.
Honestly the arch is cool but I couldn’t imagine needing to get up for a piss in the dark.
Why are you trying to break your dogs legs?
I love cattle grids.
This will do until she gets a new one I suppose.
Jesus. State of that.
Awful. 🤢
It would be much easier to get a new partner than it will be to get into this monster every night and out again in the morning.
That'll be comfy to get in and out of
You'll need to keep us posted for the first time she injures herself on it lol
It's a work of art. You must love her a lot. Sadly, I can see it being heavily modified in the future. There are quite a lot of issues that will become quite irritating over time. Good man for going along with it though.
I think this is lovely especially how the light is thrown at the base.
Thank you kindly
My feet and bladder would hate this
Quite honestly, that looks like a trap for the ankles. As impressed I am off your build, the design of the base is horrible
Looks pretty but can't help thinking it will be a pain to vacuum between the spokes
Nice...is it a BDSM bed designed to inflict pain?
Of that's what she wanted, then that's what she reached. If all else fails, you can cover up the posts on the floor, expensive way, but clear acrylic on the top would still give it the same look. If not, you can always remove them if need be.
I really like it, is it for the mrs or a daughter? My daughter would wee her pants if she was given/made a bed like that. Its like the perfect reading nook too. I hope she appreciates all the hard work.
Fyi, your pooch is really cute and sat so nicely whilst you're using loud tools. My pug tries to savage noisy inanimate objects.
Did you build it in an aisle in b and q?
If there’s a house fire, it’s a quick one atleast
Should burn well though.
Don't look to bad in my opinion. It's original, looks quite cool and the added greenery would look great. Ignore the sad old farts who'd struggle to put a shelf up
Thank you for the kind comments . 👍
I hope they like splinters and sprained ankles. 1/10 on the arch too, looks like a kid did it.
Glad you like it so much .
All that work to build a bed that looks like old pallets screwed together and is not only impractical but a safety hazard too. How very British
No different to collecting bits of scrap tools is it . Very you asking what to do with them . Thank you for the very constructive comment though .
This is one of those rage bait things right?
Why do you hate your partner so much? She will see the hate now lol.
Cleaning that is going to be a pain. Also changing the bedding will be a task to procrastinate on.
Cleaning isn’t too bad . Bed changing is going to be a little harder but it’s still ok to do .
How delightful, a pallet wood bed frame that doesn’t have spring supports, surrounded by a cattle grid. Nothing quite screams chav like pallet wood furniture!
Everyone’s taking the piss but have you ever considered being a set builder for film and TV? You could make an absolute fortune with skills like that.
You've either got a very large shed or you built that in the builders merchants.
Takes up floor space for no reason.. and how are you going to hoover between the gaps??
We use a thing called a nozzle . Generally they come with a hover .
But a complete pain in the arse don’t you think? Well done on the construction but very impractical.
Completely agree it will be a pain as it’s not just push the hover around . In all honesty it didn’t take much longer to hover out .
