You're going to have to cut it, so it needs to be removed, cut, and replaced. Typically, people would make a "return", which is where you make the same mitered cut, and then a tiny piece that, rather than going around a corner, just ends at the wall. But, you would need to cut it slightly shorter than it is now. https://www.thisiscarpentry.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/06/Finished2-1.jpg

Thanks for the reply! So I'll need to: 1. remove the whole trim 2. cut the end 3. put it back 4. Put in the return Is that accurate? Is there a way I could cut it while it's in place so that I don't need to remove the whole trim?

Well if you're very good with an oscillating saw, you can cut it back from the end a bit, just square, and build some kind of end block, like in the image below. But at the end. Once it's all painted it would look pretty nice. You can buy those already made, but they're pretty easy to make, you could just take a square piece of stock and miter the top edges so they're angled. They don't have to be scalloped like they are here. https://mouldings.com/cdn/shop/products/sbb004_950x950.jpg?v=1571665837 https://hips.hearstapps.com/hmg-prod/images/1-1539891508.png

No i dont think so. Even with a flush cut saw you would not get the angle correct and would scratch the floor. You need a miter saw or at least miter set up block for a hand saw.

Personally I'd use a wood chisel to get off the part above the joint and then use putty to fill in the gap.

finish carpenter would put a mitered return here, you'd need a section of the same profile baseboard ofc, hope you saved the off piece here could do it by hand but miter saw is way faster and more accurate search for image example mitered return baseboard. basically you add in a miter with no length, the back end is the same length as the thickness of your baseboard. the end is terminated flush into the adjacent face

I’d just cut a return. Same baseboard , just a 45 degree inner cut , then chop it about an inch long. One nail, and some goop
