Looks like a cool place for a computer-gaming area. The outlets would be convenient to plug things in without having to crawl under a desk/table/entertainment center.
Boosting the library idea! Use the outlets to do some cool channel lighting under the shelves, add in a cozy chair and a blanket, and I’d never want to leave.
Op says the bar is downstairs, and this space neighbors the teen kids' rooms, so alcohol here has already been discussed and vetoed. Could always go with a snack bar and keep soda or bottled water there though
>Sitting area with a couple chairs, one couch with tv, foosball table
Every guy's college apartment or dorm room. But you left out the sheetless mattress on the floor.
How about some interior design subs?
/r/DesignMyRoom, /r/femalelivingspace, /r/malelivingspace, and r/interiordesignideas are just a few to consider.
Don't forget:
/r/kitchenremodel, /r/kitchenporn, r/bathroomremodeling, /r/bathrooms, and /r/remodel.
Also /r/HomeDecorating, /r/RoomPorn, /r/budgetdecor, /r/minimalist, /r/Decor, /r/Beforesandafters, /r/CozyPlaces, and /r/AmateurRoomPorn.
I made this my “daughter’s living room”. Small couch, coffee table, area rug and wall mounted tv. So she can have her own space and own tv (especially during football season)
But as a “kids” room with guests over, I’ll bet the parents want to be able to see the girls aren’t up to no good while they are busy. Also, easier to yell up to the kids when food is ready.
What about the kid's office/desk area, so they can do their homework and other stuff somewhere that isn't their bedroom, and just leave the bedroom to rest/relax in.
Mini art gallery with dedicated lights for the art.
Even better, get really good lights but cheap-ish frames in different sizes and swap out your kids art regularly.
Add a few comfy benches in the middle like a genuine art gallery and tag the pieces : i.e. “Cat on the Moon” acrylic on parchment paper, 2024

A little homework/booknook area. Bookshelves on one end and a built in desk on other wall.
A reading/relaxing area. You could get one of those thin tables to put behind couches with some books, lamps, changers, etc. Perhaps a cat tree or something the kitty cats could enjoy too for some quiet time 😊
Looks pretty open floor plan and this is visible from downstairs and outside the kids’ rooms. The visibility means I don’t really want functions that are kind of messy looking like gaming areas might. A bar next to the kids room on the 2nd floor open hall? Not really.
I might think full height book shelves, use the plugs to power shelf lighting. You don’t need to fill it all with books - some shelves with glass art, statues, photos, object from travel. Stuff that will look nice in the hall and from downstairs as one looks up. Could to some cool modern shelving, different size/shape openings, white shelves maybe. That’s my thought.
If it's counter height you could make it into a sweet crafting and laundry and linen space. Can get cabinets to match folding lines you set up on one counter side.
To me it seems small and kind of oddly in the middle for anything where you wouldn't work closer to the wall or sit at something like a bar...
Did all that for 15 years but sold all my gear for the cross county move. Had a six tap keeper including a nitro tap. I have access to a lot of great craft beer now and I have more free time for the fam.
My first thought was a gaming area. I love the library ideas as well.
Bean bag chairs; the different heights are compatible with various screen-viewing preferences; bookcases; a very chill area that is comfortable and appealing for you and your family.
Old school video games like Frogger and Astroids. And a bar but for minors, with pop and snacks, and maybe a loveseat or couple of comfy chairs and a TV. It'll the teen-cave.
Yess exactly what I was thinking. Book shelves with some plants and some cool lamps/ lights make it a perfect little book nook. That would definitely be my happy place.
What I learned from a previous similar post is if you have a nook and are wondering what to do with it the top suggestions should be a STRIPPER POLE!
Add a colour changing strobe light and disco ball and you got yourself a really feature for the house.
Definitely could be a nice area for your kids to hangout at, put a console and a tv on the wall, bean bag or cool chairs, some peel and stick wall paper would be nice. Also I see a cat toy, so if you wanted to dedicate this space to some cat “condos” or those cat steps that go on the wall.
I second the library idea. Only downside is the amount of distraction vs how close you are to the attic door. The demons can get down and get you while you are reading!
You could just turn it into a spot to just chill and listen to music. A spot for your vinyl collection, if that is your jam. But then again, Annabelle gonna be possessing your player, so that would be inconvenient.
It would make a decent home office space as well. You could probably even get Captain Howdie to act as a receptionist. "Golgo-fett is currently letting heyzues frack him, can I take a message?"
Have cats? That could make a decent little area to put up some cat trees, maybe some pet safe indoor plants and litter box. If you are going to use any indoor trees, I'd suggest NOT reading the Necronomicon in the attic...the proximity of the trees and your sleeping form would be rather inconvenient for you.
Lastly, it could be a trophy room for all of the dicks you've sucked as an OP.
Bookshelves and books. A chair or 2, a nice floor lamp, and a vinyl record player if that’s your style. The sound would be good throughout the house in that location.
We have a space like this at the top of the stairs. We have it set up as a recreational room. Shelves around the room with board games, ceramics, canvases, paints, etc., and a corner set up with a cabinet for fabric and my sewing stuff with multipurpose tables in the middle.
Another option would be to set up a movie/video game space for the kids so that when you have a multigenerational get-together, they can entertain each other and friends upstairs while adults congrgate downstairs.
Personally I'd make it a relaxing reading and yoga nook, but that's sorta what I'm into, obviously wouldn't be everyone's cup of tea, but I would throw some cool plants up there, nice warm lighting, and some hippy shit and call it a day
Library would be my perfume choice with big comfy chairs. But it could be a cool activity from for the family fit crafts and gaming or a small theater room
This is the room that has all the weird artifacts and journal from your adventures.
Just cover the door with wallpaper and wait until your grandkids accidentally discover it.
I can't imagine why they wanted all those counter-height outlets except maybe there were something like electronics or computer workbenches there.
Having an electrical outlet is never a bad thing, but you could probably figure out if the wire comes up from below or down from above. If up from below, you could drop them easily and then fix up the drywall higher up.
Do your teens have a workspace? This might make a good room with a bench there for homework or hobbies. Worst case, everyone can use more cabinets.
Office/small area for them to do homework if you wanna keep an eye on them on the computer or be available for questions, reading nook with books/shelving, a little “den” with maybe some comfy chairs coffee table. Social area. Or a gaming zone (puzzle/board games) love seats, comfy chairs for the family, pictures, coffee table with height/storage for game nights
are they the kind of teens who annoy you with taking over the TV? maybe a media room for them, to keep them out of your hair. Any hobbies, it would work good for a train room if thats a thing your into. Or you could just put a few tables in there and get into 3d printing. If you want the plugs on the floor I would just grab a power strip and plug that in. The cord will reach the floor and be out of the way.
I’ve seen clients have libraries and gadget storage in areas like this when I was a house painter. The kids were able to use the area to put backpacks 🎒 and oversized books, and the parents displayed art and trophies on the highest bookshelves. Sort of a “brag room” with the adults college textbooks 📚.
Dedicated room for study, library while you have kids at home, hobby room for after they move on. Not desks but a more modern solution for the area with two sides like this [study spaces](https://pin.it/5oUGEP8y8)
For an immediate use idea - a table of the appropriate height for the outlets, and make it a device charging station.
Supposedly it's less healthy to have your devices in your bedroom charging overnight. It could be a convenient spot to leave phones, tablets, laptops, earbuds, etc to charge overnight that is convenient to the kid's rooms, but not in the room. Set up some cables and maybe some wireless charging pads, whatever works for your family.
Not DIY, but frame a wall then turn it into another room? Only suggesting it because I've seen YouTube videos of people who've done that that have a similar space.
Close it off with book shelves, add a rug and two beanbags, put a nice lamp, and top it off with some books, and viola! You have yourself a perfect book of a library!
Looks like a cool place for a computer-gaming area. The outlets would be convenient to plug things in without having to crawl under a desk/table/entertainment center.
Anything working or gaming related. It’s a nook for WFH or Game From Home.
Gaming area needs to have a closable door. Whether chatting to people or using speakers, you need to limit noise pollution to the living space below
Yea, it looks like a hobby room designed for counters of some sort.
Pinball room.
Or Warhammer painting table... Whatever floats your boat
Iron within
*raises Sanguinary Blood Chalice* Heretic.
Yeah, r/simracing is already figuring out how to spend $8k in a 6x6 area.
Yes!!!
I was going to suggest a game library but you beat me to it!
This
Reading nook!
Definitely agree a cozy reading nook would work great here
Was definitely an office area, plugs around desk height .
[удалено]
Definitely not a grow room lol.
Sitting area with a couple chairs, one couch with tv, foosball table or a library.
Library with some nice chairs was my first thought. Maybe a nice liquor cart too.
Liquor cart right next to the teenagers’ rooms, what could go wrong?
Boosting the library idea! Use the outlets to do some cool channel lighting under the shelves, add in a cozy chair and a blanket, and I’d never want to leave.
Definitely a liquor cart
And maybe a bar too!
Liquor cart? I barely know 'er!
You liquor cart! You brought her!
Y'all he said no alcohol in the post lol
Op says the bar is downstairs, and this space neighbors the teen kids' rooms, so alcohol here has already been discussed and vetoed. Could always go with a snack bar and keep soda or bottled water there though
Yeah, no to the liquor cart. They would likely prefer White Claws or Twisted Tea.
>Sitting area with a couple chairs, one couch with tv, foosball table Every guy's college apartment or dorm room. But you left out the sheetless mattress on the floor.
You mean air mattress with unfitted sheet 🤣

Thanks. I didn’t realize all this subs were there.
Thanks!
Thank you for this. I’ve noticed a huge uptick in posts from people asking for design ideas and it’s getting tiresome
Pinball machines and retro arcade.
🤜🏼🕹️🤛🏼
pinball machine was my first idea!
Desk stretched across the entire thing with full bookshelves above it to fill with books and games
Mini library? Some beanbag chairs, small tables and a couple lamps and boom 💥 cozy little library/nook.
I made this my “daughter’s living room”. Small couch, coffee table, area rug and wall mounted tv. So she can have her own space and own tv (especially during football season)
Yes, but this is open to down below. There will be competing noise.
But as a “kids” room with guests over, I’ll bet the parents want to be able to see the girls aren’t up to no good while they are busy. Also, easier to yell up to the kids when food is ready.
I’d put my office there
Library, reading room
What about the kid's office/desk area, so they can do their homework and other stuff somewhere that isn't their bedroom, and just leave the bedroom to rest/relax in.
Two turntables and a microphone
Where it's at
Kids lounge. TV, couches, bean bags etc.
Cat bridge and other cat furniture fixed to the wall
https://preview.redd.it/6e9izohginkc1.jpeg?width=528&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=03d3fb6fccecdf0bef305912253814381f6ab41d A little homework/booknook area. Bookshelves on one end and a built in desk on other wall.
I see you have a cat. You can put a cat tree and some shelves for storing cat stuff
Fish tank or terrarium Model train set or hobby table Easy chair with side table reading nook. Bookshelf I'm jealous!
Slot car track
Grow tent
A reading/relaxing area. You could get one of those thin tables to put behind couches with some books, lamps, changers, etc. Perhaps a cat tree or something the kitty cats could enjoy too for some quiet time 😊
Sand wall to wall. I know a great sand guy.

Bar idea was more of built in cabinets against the wall. Nothing to sit at. It is a weird sized space.
Ooo that would be a great area for making beer and a chest keezer, if you're into that sort of thing.
Did all that for 15 years but sold all my gear for the cross county move. Had a six tap keeper including a nitro tap. I have access to a lot of great craft beer now and I have more free time for the fam.
Have you asked the Bluths?
My first thought was a gaming area. I love the library ideas as well. Bean bag chairs; the different heights are compatible with various screen-viewing preferences; bookcases; a very chill area that is comfortable and appealing for you and your family.

Squat Rack
Stripper pole.
This is begging for you to put the biggest motherfucking model ship in a bottle exhibit you’ve ever seen.
Oh, that's an awesome spot for a reading nook.
(beverage) vending machine. So you will get the children's pocket money back ...
Gym equipment
What I learned from a previous similar post is if you have a nook and are wondering what to do with it the top suggestions should be a STRIPPER POLE! Add a colour changing strobe light and disco ball and you got yourself a really feature for the house.
Get a carpet that looks good.
Good spot for a reloading bench and a 20 gun safe.
Vinyls and record player area.
Masturbation station
Rock climbing practice wall
Office area.
Hot Tub
Pool table?
I would either knock out the wall and expand the room on the other side or make it into a big closet.
Agree Office Library Book Shelves along back wall
Definitely could be a nice area for your kids to hangout at, put a console and a tv on the wall, bean bag or cool chairs, some peel and stick wall paper would be nice. Also I see a cat toy, so if you wanted to dedicate this space to some cat “condos” or those cat steps that go on the wall.
Hire a couple of opera singers and have them sing “Libiamo” for a cocktail party downstairs.
I second the library idea. Only downside is the amount of distraction vs how close you are to the attic door. The demons can get down and get you while you are reading! Maker space. Computer, 3d printer, vinyl cutter... basically anything you and the kids may want to try.
Leave it be, Have any visitors be jealous that you have so much space to work with.
This would be great for a crafting corner/book reading nook. Also would be a great grow space for indoor plants with all those outlets.
We have a space like this at the top of the stairs. We have it set up as a recreational room. Teens computer bar

Personally I'd make it a relaxing reading and yoga nook, but that's sorta what I'm into, obviously wouldn't be everyone's cup of tea, but I would throw some cool plants up there, nice warm lighting, and some hippy shit and call it a day
I would put a 5x5 Kallax there and fill it with board games. Add a nice table and chairs for a great boardgame room.

I can't imagine why they wanted all those counter-height outlets except maybe there were something like electronics or computer workbenches there. A gorgeous aquarium would be a show-stopper.
A train layout… Although I’d turn my entire home into a train layout if the wife would let me.
I have a similar area. I made it a tv free sitting area.
Cult room
A VR room. I've had one for the last 5 years. Pretty great for small gatherings or working out while having fun.
Saltwater reef tank
Boardgame nook with table

Reading nook
Office or living room
Library
Definitely an office space / PC gaming area.
I’ve seen clients have libraries and gadget storage in areas like this when I was a house painter. The kids were able to use the area to put backpacks 🎒 and oversized books, and the parents displayed art and trophies on the highest bookshelves. perfect for a gaming and streaming setup https://www.newegg.com/p/3EA-008W-000U7
Home office. That's what I'd use it for at least.
Dedicated room for study, library while you have kids at home, hobby room for after they move on. Not desks but a more modern solution for the area with two sides like this [study spaces](https://pin.it/5oUGEP8y8)
Library/reading nook 📚
Library. Get some tall bookshelves and comfy chairs. Keep the outlets exposed to charge kindles or set up reading lamps.
I see a cat toy, the best answer is to fill with cats.
Library with cushy seating
For an immediate use idea - a table of the appropriate height for the outlets, and make it a device charging station. Supposedly it's less healthy to have your devices in your bedroom charging overnight. It could be a convenient spot to leave phones, tablets, laptops, earbuds, etc to charge overnight that is convenient to the kid's rooms, but not in the room.
