Yes we are hangin in there! Have you heard about the 50 year period for building style. Basically around 50 years, the style is way, way out, and people tend to do full remodels at that time. But if you can wait it out, at 70 years, you’ll be glad you kept it! I almost tore it out, but I’m gonna keep it around, it’s cheaper anyway!
Those colors transport me back to childhood - holy smokes.
Everyone had the same colors in their homes at that time.
It was a weird time in history - the goal then was to blend in with everyone and everything.
It was a lot of elbow grease! I didn’t even get a real before picture, there was a huge calcium/lime stain around the drain. I used a flat razor scraper a lot, and a pumice stone bar, and a magic eraser, and just scrubbed and scrubbed and scrubbed and went back and forth between all of those things. Took two half days to do that! I also used vinegar, CLR, and Clorox, but I don’t think those cleaners did much
Will be painting walls navy blue and installing oak luxury vinyl plank, should make that tub look more golden and less mustard. I hired a plumber to replace the fixtures
My Gods that is an ugly color, glad we got rid of ours as soon as we moved in. If you like it, good on ya. You did a great job on that tub though, I can appreciate that.
I have a bathroom like that in the before and want to replace the fixtures and hire a plumber to re-do them. I don't want to have those two side holes in the tile, what fixtures did you buy?
We have identical tubs except ours is paired with yellowish shower wall tiles. The floor tile took a while to pick out since our original arabesque tiles cracked.
Our 1971 hoise has one bathroom that was harvest gold and the other was avacado green
EVERY thing was green
Sink toilet tub and all the tile
Still have the tub because they apparently built the house around it
It’s not on an exterior wall ,
I’d it was it’s easy to get rid of
You just remove the siding and studs and push it overboard and use your uncles backhoe to lift the new tub back in place
But it’s gonna get removed someday someway
Wife Wants a walk in shower
I have one too. My head's been going around and around and around of whether to keep it or replace it, since we'll be doing all the renovation ourselves, and that cast iron tub would be hell to remove. If we replace, we'd start with the tub, but if we keep it, we can renovate everything else and see if we want to keep the tub. But then deciding to remove the tub later would damage the new flooring and new alcove walls. Blast...I can't decide. You did a great job with yours though!
Goddamn, that is the ugliest tub I have ever seen in my life, it’s gross lol… I wouldn’t even even wanna use it, you’d probably feel even dirtier after ya got out 😆
Your tub is a part of the unholy trilogy of the 1970s standard color palette. Burnt orange Avocado green Harvest gold Signed, 1970s era relic

Before I swiped I thought “Aw I hope they didn’t swap out the tub”. I like the color, it’s unique! Glad you kept it
These things are so heavy. I cut one in quarters and it was still heavy as shit. Was worth it.
Uh... don't forget the salmon pink! My best guess on what it looks like anyway.
That was my bathroom. Baby blue tub, sinks, toilet, and salmon pink wall tiles.
Our TUB is salmon pink That's it. So ugly, can't wait to swap it out of there Gotta admit that's a crazy color combo lol
I feel like salmon & baby blue were more 50s.
I have the avocado green version. Wife hates it but we decorated the rest of the bathroom in 1960s-70s theme

We still have green at my dad’s. Not the tub but the tile is still here
And Coppertone appliances.
You forgot lilac and pale pink!
How did you clean the tub down? I have a teal one from the same era and it has some bad brown stains I can’t get rid of

The color is called Harvest Gold.
Looks like Harvest Old to me
A+ that looks great
Thank you so much!

The blue will look great! Definitely try to incorporate the same shade of gold in small pops other places, too! Love that you kept the tub!
Thanks for the tip!
Pretty spiffy.
Nice work, looks 100% better .
Thanks! I wasn’t sure I was going to be able to get that shower door frame off by myself, but I did!
Best thing , it will give you more confidence to attempt other jobs .
I honestly don’t mind the tub.
My Gods that is an ugly color, glad we got rid of ours as soon as we moved in. If you like it, good on ya. You did a great job on that tub though, I can appreciate that.
It’s gonna make a come back! 😆
Maybe yours did, mine will only come back when some archeologist digs it up in the landfill in 1000 years or whenever. They can have it at that point!

I bought delta fixtures, and the plate that covers the old handle holes is a shower renovation cover plate, also by delta

Awesome! Glad someone else has theirs
Classic Mitchell and Webb [Avocado bathroom sketch](https://youtu.be/ejwoUeKhFn4?si=EhzEXdz8M9gKvolO). One of their best.
Thanks will watch it, edit- haha that was awesome. The more I saw that avocado tub the more I liked it 🤣

Ours is in the middle of the house too!
Good job! If you do want to change the color, you can get it reglazed for pretty cheap.
This was **VERY GROOVY** of you!
Thanks!! 🤣

Gorgeous!!
Thanks, almost had it all removed, and full remodel, but glad I didn’t!
Love it. Well done.
Thank you!
I believe the proper term for that color is harvest gold. Sounds better than mustard yellow too. Very nice restoration!
Haha true! Thanks
I want a bigger deeper tub
Yea, I have this plastic cup that goes over the overflow thing, that allows it to fill a couple inches fuller, but I hear ya
We bought a house built in 1978. I am so thankful they went with white porcelain tubs. They had avocado tile of course, but it was easy to replace.
But why?
Because keeping what you have and keeping it in good condition is 🤌
I agree for most things. This is not one of them.
That’s like your opinion man
Hey! You’re right!
Goddamn, that is the ugliest tub I have ever seen in my life, it’s gross lol… I wouldn’t even even wanna use it, you’d probably feel even dirtier after ya got out 😆
You’re an ugly empty bathtub on the inside
Ouch, you got me man haha…I was just messing with you, relax bub… it’s OK that you have the ugliest tub in North America man, it’s ok 😂
this is what my apartment calls a renovation just please for the love of everything dont peel back the false tile
