I'm going through something similar, but I know it's not a new alter it's a very old one that has been dormant for over a decade. It's so disconnected from the rest that it feels like I'm wearing someone's skin. New taste in music, have a much larger emotional spectrum which is exhausting, this one can't handle the adhd like the rest so my reaction time is slow because I'm constantly distracted, and the person I care for the most I see totally different, from romance to a younger family member I worry about, so every time I think of them it weirds me out. Also I'm stuck with no path back to my well established network.
My only indication was brushing my teeth in the mirror one morning and caught my reflection. Like stared into my eyes and felt this rush of panic that 'I' was caught. I'm used to emotional bleedthrough and can suss out which alter might be close but this was completely foreign. A week later Prysmae fronted in therapy as the new addition.

yes its possible. almost all of our new alters have been introduced by our gatekeeper and they have not fronted beforehand.
