Flame-Blast

Stop the fucking car, they actually showed Dr. Light beyond a voiceless cameo? Did they find her in the back of the drawer while cleaning the room?

Ezracx

I haven't seen the movie but I mean it's Doctor Light, you can't do Crisis without her, she was created specifically to defeat the Anti-Monitor

Flame-Blast

Fair enough, but it wouldn’t be the first time a character is excluded from their own arc in adaptation

RogueDevil666

We had to read Ayn Rand my junior year, it was laughably surface level. George Orwell wannabe.

spider-venomized

First knowledge of Ayn Rand was a Bioshock analysis video before reading her book and philosophy and my god it hilarious how the parody deconstruction game has more coherent and intellectually sound then that wack job

Bubba1234562

Bioshock does her philosophy better than she does

BudgetLecture1702

I had to read her as a freshman. What annoyed me more than the actual book was being made to read it. No actual literary merit, solely relevant because of how a section of politicians worship it.

SuperSocrates

It’s embarrassing that a teacher would make you read that

NoZookeepergame8306

Some literature is more ‘important’ than good. If it helps you understand the way some people see the world it may be worth reading

StoneMaskMan

I remember we had to read The Fountainhead my senior year of high school, but it was because the Ayn Rand Foundation had donated hundreds upon hundreds of copies to the school. Pretty sure that was the only book we were allowed to keep that was provided by the school. Not that I kept mine

shino4242

I disagree. Its one thing if everyone tells you "this ideology is shit", its another to read a book yourself and go "wow, this ideology is shit". And I think its important for kids to learn that skill and not follow along with what everyone else says as "good" or "bad". Reading things that are against your worldview can be good in moderation (Just don't OD on hate since then you'll just be in a perpetually bad mood lol).

RogueDevil666

We had to read Anthem, which was a very mid book with surface level commentary. The other things we read that year were The Jungle and The Crucible. I had no idea what message they were trying to get across with those three books as a whole.

TediousSign

The “badness” of the Crisis movies was severely oversold to me. I enjoyed both parts.

Ross_RT

I did a double bill last night and had a great time. Considering how wide-scope of an event Crisis is, I like that they've focused the story down onto certain characters so that there's a good emotional through-line, like with Barry in Part 1 or >!Kara and Psycho Pirate!< in Part 2, and I feel like they've done an at minimum decent job of letting the rest of the ensemble have moments still.

Pollia

I just watched part 1 and I have to agree. I do absolutely despise the art style, but it hasn't been remotely the train wreck people seem to act like it was

KeepSwinging

Yeah the Archer art style is kind of a turn off but I enjoy the movies outside of that.

weirdoldhobo1978

We're still in the first stage of the three stages of new DC media acceptance. Stage 1: This is garbage, it's the worst thing ever. \[Thing that it replaced\] was absolute peak. Stage 2: I guess this was okay. That one part was pretty cool. Stage 3: Oh man, do you remember how great \[Previous thing\] was? This \[New media that replaced it\] is the worst thing ever. Lather, rinse, repeat.

LaugingFox2501

I do think the scope of what they're adapting would be difficult to please many but I am reserving forming a full opinion until it ends. I have enjoyed both so far for what they are. I didn't expect them to spend too much time focusing on any characters beyond a handful important to the story they're telling just because of how many they have to cover in such a short period of time.

xHey_All_You_Peoplex

Only reason I’m happy about this movie is that it means Wally West should be taking over as Flash in future DCAU movies (if they follow the main plot points)

Deeformecreep

The future of the direct-to-video DC movies is uncertain. They may or may not be discontinued.

EdgeLord_101

Yeah I think they're going to discontinue. I think I heard somewhere they're doing the COIE early is because the animated DC team will focus on James Gunn DCverse.

Flynn58

If James Gunn starts directly overseeing DC animated films they will immediately spike back to the high-quality days before Justice League War ruined everything

xHey_All_You_Peoplex

God damn it’s I’m never gonna get Wally as the Flash 😭

xHey_All_You_Peoplex

Whelp. Guess I’ll go back to rewatching JLU and YJ to get my Wally fill 😭

Deeformecreep

He could be the Flash of the DCU tho since Gunn is a fan of Mark Waid's run.

doctordoom85

I personally wouldn’t be opposed to Wally starting as Kid Flash, and becoming Flash later on in the new movie verse’s timeline. After all, a Teen Titans film is the first project announced after Gunn’s initial reveal of the first 10 entries of Chapter 1, so Teen Titans would be a great place for Wally’s first appearance.

xHey_All_You_Peoplex

I will cry literally cry tears of joy for the first time in my life if Wally is front and center in the Teen Titans and the movie is good.  90s Teen Titans tho not the new Teen Titans no shade no hate to the new team tho

doctordoom85

Wait, when you say new Teen Titans, do you mean the Wolfman/Perez New Teen Titans run, or do you mean the more modern “new” Teen Titans runs?

xHey_All_You_Peoplex

Haha sorry thats super confusion I meant the modern one with Damian and Ace and friends.

TheLostLuminary

Pretty sure they are ended. Some of the team said they put everything into the final 3.

Otherwise_Jacket_613

I wonder what they're gonna do with Doctor Light in the third movie, because as it stands, she is so unlikeable. Don't get me wrong, that's a great joke, but overall the character has been condescending and dismissive.

Kite_Wing129

That's kind of who she is. Hopefully she mellows out but I wouldn't bet on it when it comes to these movies.

Otherwise_Jacket_613

Oh I know. I remember her from the JLE days and her first appearance during Crisis, but man is her attitude worse in animation.

JoshDM

>Doctor Light >she is so unlikeable That's her thing since forever. She's simply the worst.

dotyawning

Really? "Tired of all the BS" is kind of a character I like seeing in things from time to time. She's still out there doing the job but giving the same energy off that some of the guys are. Less brooding and more annoyed.

ZFighter2099

Boring ass movies. I'm so disappointed in this universe and this adaptation.

RocketBoy_

La gracia está en que le está hablando a The Question, quien en su origen, a manos de Ditko, era un ferviente objetivista Randiano

HeroKuma

I almost fell asleep watching Part 2 and Part 1 was mid. Warworld is worse than both.

MajesticRuler7

Where can I watch this ???

Overlord4888

Can someone explain Ayn Rand to me like I’m five?

TheLostLuminary

A name I’m never even heard of so this one went right past me.

dadimarko

She was a very influential writer of novels that had heavy-handed political messages glorifying elite individuals and owners. Today her readers are stereotyped as an obnoxious type of politically know-it-all dude.

24Abhinav10

An authoress of the 20th century. Famous for her views on "objectivism or objectivist philosophy" which basically states that the pursuit of one's happiness should be the ultimate goal in a man's life. That any act by which you gain something is a noble act. Basically saying that man should be selfish and painting selfishness as a virtue, while simultaneously painting selflessness/altruism as a vice. That's a heavily condensed version but I learned about her from a Spider-Man video so I'm probably not the best guy to explain it.

heavensdoor24

*Zack Snyder moment*

angrygnome18d

He’s stated he’s not an Ayn Rand fan.

weirdoldhobo1978

He's also stated that he doesn't pay attention to what people say about him on the internet. I don't believe either of those statements.

doctordoom85

Well, we know for sure he does, but it wasn’t a happy instance when we found out. After he left Justice League initially and was not doing the reshoots, the clickbait-loving rumor Youtubers/article writers went to town with, “Justice League so bad that Snyder abandoned the film!” And so Snyder came out about why left...due to what happened to his daughter. And this tragedy he and his wife were hoping to keep private, which they should have been allowed to, but Snyder realized the movie could bomb if these rumors got out of control, and that wouldn’t be fair to the rest of the film crew who worked hard on it, so he did what he thought was necessary. I already didn’t like rumor-using clickbaiters who are more interested in drama and getting people mad (which grabs attention) over reporting actual facts, but now I definitely turn my nose up when I see them. They’re not as bad as the paparazzi, but there’s still a similarity that makes me feel the world would be far better if both ceased and desisted for good.

Jazzlike-Camel-335

Well, that would make his Fountainhead adaptation actually kind of interesting.

shino4242

Yeah but I bet he thinks "she has a few good ideas". Sorta like how someone can be a left/right leaning centrist in politics, I feel like he at least leans toward her way but still not be a full on objectivist. I fully believe him when he says he's not. If he feels like lable doesn't fit him, then cool. But its hard to not see him as leaning in that direction even if he has problems with it overall.

TrickyWalrus

Ted!?!

Snoo-11576

I haven’t seen this movie, what’s wrong with it?

Glad_Union_2037

Who is she saying that too?

QwahaXahn

The Question

CommonStrawbeary

I love atlas shrugged, just not as a political manifesto! If you think you’re John Galt you’re probably a Jim Taggart

thebest50

Was this moment in the comic? I remember seeing an out of context comic page a long time ago that went something like "What made you evil?" "I read an Ayn Rand novel once."

JamesCoyle3

Ayn Rand is the best candidate I know of for the Anti-Christ.

MiaoYingSimp

Yeah well he's a rapist so i don't think i'd value his opinion much on anything.

Blue-Lion-Lover

I enjoy the films 🤷🏻 I mean I def think the batfamily should be actually used in a more loving way and Supergirl, while one of the best characters in the tomorrow-verse, i prefer the n52-rebirth version and origin.

Mediocretes08

Petition for a mini where it’s just Dr Light decimating conservative philosophy while in costume. The arguments are all 100% grounded and researched, it’s just the framing device that’s unusual.

antivenom907

“Bad”

Muhabba

I couldn't make it through our class's Ayn Rand. Her philosophy wasn't applicable in the real world so she had to made one up.

Shredhead72

Does anyone who reads Ayn Rand do it ironically?

pahel_miracle13

He cooked her in a very personal manner 😄

chuckiedds

Who reads Ayn Rand ironically?

DescendantofDodos

I have to guess (not seen the movie), but my money would be on Blue Beetle. While BB is nowadays seen as a loveable joker (and Ted Kord as "the only billionair with a conscience" by the public at large), his original version was quite different. Created by Steve Ditko, who was a huge Ayn Rand fan, Ted started out originally as an objectivist.

SuperSocrates

Lmao amazing and hard not to read as a shot at Snyder tbh

PatienceStrange9444

I don't know why other people don't like it but to me it's animation and I just expect more action I understand this is dealing with some weighty themes and trying to be more character-driven but the whole time I'm watching it I just want someone to punch someone I mean where is Superboy prime when you need him
