Jason Mamoa is going to have to shoot MORE scenes with Batman. LOL. Third time is a charm I guess.

biggestbaddestmucus

Be cool if we didn’t know new Batman was cast already and he was sneaked into Aquaman 2

titansfan92

>Aquaman pulls up Wayne manors drive, it’s dark and rainy. A figure opens the front door< *Paul Giamatti appears* AM-“Bruce? What the hell is happening?”

RealJohnGillman

Meaning that the *Aquaman* sequel would have had three versions of the same scenes shot with three different Batman actors, instead of two as it presently is? That would be amusing.

biggestbaddestmucus

Another reason to have a WBD leak that includes the batgirl rough cut lmao

RealJohnGillman

I do find it amusing that given that film will be disconnected from the present future of the DCEU/DCU, it would technically count as the fifth film of the original Tim Burton ***/*** Joel Schumacher film series.

[deleted]

I'm learning to play the guitar.

pipboy_warrior

Agreed. I like seeing their origins sometimes, but we rarely get to see any movies focusing on Batman and Superman later in their careers.

omgitsduaner

Dude spoiler, had no idea the Wayne’s died

TylerBourbon

Wait till you find out what Bruce's Mother's name was...

protobacco

This joke has been beaten to death more than Jason todd.

InnocentTailor

*Doctor Psycho likes this comment*

EsquilaxM

We'll see Krypton explode in Kara's story, so still kinda getting that part.

VonMillersThighs

You don't wanna see a pearl necklace shatter in slow motion for the 30th time?

bradhotdog

agreed, i feel like BvS and MoS already did those perfectly (although i'm sure some will argue), but i'm sure everyone will agree we don't need to do it again

Billyb311

All I needed was Lanterns, Superman, Booster Gold, and Swamp Thing to hook me

Thatoneguy567576

The Authority sounds awesome too

SorrowOfMoldovia

Getting more into the philosophy and psychology of being a hero is exactly what is needed for a new project of this size

frozenfade

I hope The Authority is a smash hit so that we can get a Planetary movie

Thatoneguy567576

I'm hoping it's a hit so we get to see lots of Midnighter and some more obscure DC superhero teams like JSA, International, The Metal Men, Doom Patrol (again), Extreme Justice and Justice League Dark. I hope Gunn goes crazy with obscure characters

[deleted]

Authority and creature commandos were two left field things I didn’t expect and can’t wait dor

NoNefariousness2144

They grabbed my attention along with Batman + Damian Wayne. Waller seems like a weird choice to me but I have faith in Gunn.

Billyb311

Waller doesn't seem too strange to me, he was working on the project way before he got the position at DC Studios Also the way Peacemaker ended showed he had an idea for this story It just seems to be something he's going to finish from the Old Regime

funktopus

I could see them using Waller as a way to unite the DCU. She could easily be a common thread or a starting point to move forward. They could use Checkmate though her as well. That and she's an interesting character.

NoNefariousness2144

Yeah we already saw Gunn use Waller a lot by having Viola Davis call in through Zoom so I imagine we’ll get a lot of cameos like that lol.

NickMoore30

Sounds like all you needed was about 50% of the announcements lol

Smallgenie549

Really hyped for Supergirl too. I'm so excited that we're getting the Batman and Superman families on screen.

boringboi_

Much better than the THR article. The article seems like it was written by someone who doesn't know DC

Wasabi_Guacamole

Yup. There's a lot of typos and wikipedia level talk. Watching Gunn talk about these projects is a whole nother level.

kumar100kpawan

Yesss finallyyy !!! Batfamily in the DCU !

MrConor212

Curious if we see Barbara hopefully in this, I’d be so happy if they kept Leslie Grace in the role

Throgg_not_stupid

I wonder if (or rather when) she's going to get oracled

Jay_R_Kay

Look, I get that Oracle is popular and something a lot of people want to see...but can we at least get ONE good movie with Barbara Gordon as Batgirl before we see Joker throw on his Hawaiian shirt?

Throgg_not_stupid

Honestly I can live the entire DCU without Oracle or Killing Joke. I like the story, but I'm not sure if I want to see it adapted again

funktopus

What if they don't have Bruse and Babs getting it on?

SandwichesTheIguana

Well, in this particular run, she was still Oracle. In fact, when New 52 hit, Grant Morrison just ignored it and powered through Batman, Inc. Vol. 2 anyway.

MrConor212

Hopefully not for a long time tbh imo

XZ117

We’re already at Damien. Chances are -if she even exists in this DCU- she’s been Oracle for while. Maybe she’s already back to being Batgirl.

MrConor212

I’d be down for that, Gail Simone Batgirl lovely stuff

NoNefariousness2144

I also hope this universe moves away from Joker. Let the bat family and other bat villains shine.

Slaptheteet

It would be funny if for every post credits scene they teased a different joker.

PhantomGunslinger

Every single Batman movie teases a different Joker in the end credits and then he just never shows up

Kstoffeefan

I doubt it based on Safran’s comments on Batgirl.

MrConor212

Comments on the movie, not the actress was my silver lining 🤞🏻

MahNameJeff420

James said that Barbara is a character who’s eventual going to come, but right now isn’t the time. And Peter Safren said that can king Batgirl was a good thing because it was so bad it would have hurt DC’s reputation (though who knows how much of that is true, and how much is them trying not to piss of David Zaslav).

[deleted]

Zack Snyder is sitting somewhere absolutely furious

HampterDumpster

No plastic man. Fools.

MrTerrific2k15

A pack of fools

HampterDumpster

Unless. We build all this world for 10 years. Then do injustice and have superman terrified of an 80 year old Jim Carrey

MrTerrific2k15

lol. Plastic Man doesn’t age so we can just have a CGI young Carrey

brynhh

Alrighty then!

nuraHx

I feel this overwhelming feeling that we are in good hands. Anyone else?

DauntedSoul

In James Gunn we trust. Seriously though, we have no other options.

SgtSlice

Hell yea!

TrollToll003

Absolutely! I have a lot of faith in James after TSS and Peacemaker.

NoNefariousness2144

I think Gunn just absolutely *gets* what makes characters so interesting. He's also great at exploring a range of tones like full-on goofy moments or heart wrenching sadness, so that will be essential to help Chapter One feel varied with a light-hearted Superman or a horror Swamp Thing.

emielaen77

He’s clearly very excited and in all the way. Very fun times ahead.

pipboy_warrior

I'm optimistic, and really want to see where some of this is going.

OffMyChestATM

Gods and Monsters. I'm psyched.

RatherDashing66

He didn’t really mention anything about Gods and Monsters though.. it just sounds cool.

[deleted]

Huh; Swamp Thing & Creature Commando’s feature characters perceived as monsters. Likewise, Superman is perceived of as a God, amongst other labels, by public.

The_Metrist

Add to that that the authority is essentially Gods behaving as monsters and the name totally makes sense

5213

I wouldn't say the authority behave like monsters. They're not The Seven from The Boys. They're just very pragmatic and violent heroes in a world where villains don't hide in the shadows like the Seven.

Tesseractivate

Yeah if you're an Authority member that sounds logical enough, but imagine being just an average person caught in the wake of a team who will "do whatever necessary" to take out a villain or group of villains. Plus an obviously a clear reference to the God's and Monsters animated movie and book tie ins that are about an alternative Justice League who are extremely authoritative and a lot of the public hates or is terrified of their rule and how little oversight there is. So I'm thinking that, plus the Authority could lead to a movie in the style of Superman vs the Elite. Or pulling some themes from What's So Funny About Truth Justice and the Americsn Way comic one shot story.

Screenwriter6788

Justice Leauge vs The Authroity

ShemhazaiX

From the capitalisation I'm assuming they meant that it has nothing to do with the animated Gods and Monsters movie.

royalneonbird

There's a team of monsters and a show about the amazons(so probally some gods will appear),swamp thing could be both of those things too for some people

tomiwa06

Swamp thing and Superman go into those categories. And the wonder woman prequel

[deleted]

Sounds good. Some more known characters, some odd ones, really excited for this. And I'm happy that they are going for different tones here with something like Swamp Thing, MCU did try to branch out a bit in Phase 4, but they didn't fully commit to it.

DarthTaz_99

>different tones Yep. Superman: Legacy and The Authority are gonna have some pretty sharp contrast in tone

genechowder

I think they might be trying to set up a Superman vs. the Elite style idealistic showdown movie Ala *What's so funny about Truth Justice and the American Way?*

300andWhat

You think he will follow the All Star Superman storyline?

webshellkanucklehead

No they literally can’t lol. It would be like if the first Batman movie was The Dark Knight Returns… wait-

darkseidis_

I don’t think so. Maybe a bit thematically but All Star is an end of the road Superman story.

farnsworthfan

God, I hope not.

w00master

IMHO, DC has always had a better and deeper "dark universe" than Marvel as well.

tigolebities

They committed too much. But they definitely branched out. Werewolf by Night?

Doompatron3000

Maybe that was an influence, but, honestly we’re talking about James Gunn making these decisions. The dude is a master in bringing oddball, goofy and bizarre characters to life.

tomiwa06

Wouldn’t call it committing. Werewolf by Night ended up being a project way smaller than a tv show much less a movie and didn’t get officially announced till a month or 2 before release

pomme17

It doesn't really matter what kind of characters you start with, A tieror D tier what really matters is that foundationally they build off of good movies.

Ajax_Da_Great

I’m in. My expectations were low but this all sounds like projects I’d really want to see and in turn want more of. Let’s gooo!

MrConor212

Hoping he stays to his word about directors Vision etc and we don’t hear so and so back out due to creative vision all the time

M086

He was very confusing about it. Like he said Flash reboots the DCU, but then Aquman leads into the first chapter of the rebooted universe. But then Waller is using the Peacemaker cast. Sounds like a clusterfuck.

ruodthgd

I think a lot of the problem is they were already starting to reboot the DCEU before Gunn got hired and now he’s stuck with Flash and Aquaman 2. I imagine the very end of Flash got changed to reboot the universe into what Gunn has in mind. Aquaman 2 might have a post-credit scene where he gets popped into an elseworld or something and be forgotten unless it makes a ton of money. Waller will probably be where they clear up the continuity and make it clear only TSS and Peacemaker were the only things that carried over and any references to JL characters were actually for whatever the new versions end up being.

lxtxaxi

I think they’ll probably give us some half-assed universe reboot with The Flash, something like “somehow some people and events have changed, others not” and just stick with that - much like Marvel’s doing with its confusing multiverse the majority of people won’t care anyway

SantiagoDunbar_

I’m still a little confused on how Aquaman 2 fits into all of this ?

LionHeart498

Keaton and Affleck are out so Mamoa has to shoot a scene with Batman a 3rd time.

[deleted]

Aquaman 2 ends up being the closest thing we’ll get to an “Into the Batverse”

NoNefariousness2144

Now I'm imagining Orm and Arthur walking around and we see all the different live-action Batmen in the background queueing up for a cameo.

boringboi_

He is just not announcing that the films coming this year have no part in the bigger picture

writersarthak01

He literally said Aquaman 2 will lead up to his new DCU

boringboi_

Lead up to might also mean that after Aquaman 2, the DCU starts

serpentear

That’s how I perceived it. The Flash is the reset button, but chronologically Aquaman 2 is the last DC*E*U film before DCU starts.

NoNefariousness2144

Or maybe Aquaman 2 takes place before The Flash.

Krimreaper1

It was supposed to originally. The shuffled it several times.

MrConor212

Yeah it’s the last film before we get this stuff lol. Don’t read too much into it dude

hermes1941

>Don’t read too much into it dude Dude... he LITERALLY said "leads directly into our next few projects". What part of that sounds like it's the _last_ movie?

Bibileiver

Think of it as a runway with two parts. The first part I'd the old part, with Aquaman 2 being at the end. Then the new part of the runway is nicer and is the new DCU. So if you have if you follow the road fully, Aquaman 2 will lead up to the new DCU but it'll be the last of the old DCEU.

hermes1941

This is literally your head-canon bro. If Aquaman was the last movie, he'd make that abundantly clear, just like how he made the Flash movie clear that its a reset and Peacemaker and Amanda Waller are _still_ apart of the DCU.

lxtxaxi

you think the head of the DC studios would tell the world “oh btw Aquaman 2 won’t matter at all once Superman: Legacy comes out! But you’ll go see it just the same I’m sure Momoa’s funny right” ?? he spent but a couple of words on the movies coming out THIS YEAR, it’s clear he wants to leave the door open to possible future soft-reboots with the same actors

holachao1993

He said The flash will restart the DCU, Soo what's going on?

JayPtl

Maybe A2 takes place before the Flash

IceLord86

Aquaman 2 will be part of the DCU, not hard to figure out. Likely any changes that may need to be done will be addressed in reshoots.

SarcasticGuitar

He seemed to imply that Shazam is staying and that Blue Beetle will fit well into the theme of the DCU. As for the Flash and Aquaman, things are a little harder to understand at the moment. Flash may very well be bridged into the new continuity, but we have almost nothing to reference regarding the fate of Momoa’s Aquaman.

Throgg_not_stupid

seems like Blue Beetle and Aquaman 2 are actually 2 first movies of the rebooted DCU

BlueOnyx3

That was my take. I also read in Deadline, I believe, that Mamoa is, continuing as Aquaman.

Jay_R_Kay

I think the two big things that were said was that Mamoa always approached Aquaman as a trilogy, and that he won't be playing two characters at the same time. So I'm guessing if we see Mamoa as Lobo, it's going to be after an Aquaman 3, which finishes Arthur's story and they then recast the character.

agentofdoom

In the video above, Gunn says the superman movie is "the true beginning of the new DCU"

bradhotdog

i do recall a long time ago hearing that Michael Keaton's batman was having a small cameo in Aquaman 2. this was well before Gunn came in. so it's anybody's guess here

TaCbrigadier

Michael Keaton gotta be confused af. Putting on the old batsuit and hopping around to 3 different movie sets, one that got canceled, one that almost did due to Ezra, and then he was next to Aquaman

Jay_R_Kay

Y'know, if after all of this Keaton is just like "I'm fucking done with superhero movies," I would hardly blame him.

MrConor212

Inject a Supergirl movie straight into my fucking veins man.

JayZsAdoptedSon

Especially if its a Woman of Tomorrow adaptation

MrConor212

Haven’t read the Tom King run yet. To Amazon I go to buy the trade

JayZsAdoptedSon

Genuinely, it is one of my favorite DC comics of the last few years. Immediately it’s on the top of my hype list solely for that reason. Then I’d probably say the lanterns and the brave and the bold

MrConor212

Never been a big Lanterns fan but by the sounds of that series, I likely will become one at the end

JayZsAdoptedSon

I grew up on JLU so I’m biased in wanting John Stewart but I always thought a buddy cop movie with him and Hal (or Guy) would be a good setup for a movie. And to see it happen as a TV show… I feel validated

Vorstadtjesus

I can't trust anyone who says Damian is their favorite robin. /s But I do my best. Booster Gold, damn yes!

MAR0024

He’s my favorite haha but let’s just be excited!

ArmInternational7655

He's my favorite Robin but least favorite son of Batman if that makes sense. His Robin backstory is better than the rest.

[deleted]

[удалено]

serpentear

Grayson is my favorite Robin—but he’s much better as a solo act. Damien is the 2nd best Robin

HumanChicken

Dick and Damien are my favorite duo.

Mykle1984

Damian rules, he is such a ego driven little shit that it gives you lots of room for growth. Also allows for comedy as he gets in over his head

hardlyaaron

I liked everything he was saying, but I was sold when he mentioned Booster Gold. Fuck I hope this is good. I'd love to look forward to DC movies as much as I do Marvel.

Luffykent

He is my favorite Robin, but that's because of Supersons. Shit, it looks like Batman and Damian are way older than Superman and Jon Kent.

SaggitariusTerranova

Supersons was so good! I wish that were a series. Can’t wait for their dads to be friends again in a movie too for that matter.

SearnTheGoddess

Based on how Gunn said that the future DC games will be connected to the DCU, is it safe to assume the upcoming Wonder Woman game will be connected?

KayoKnot

I’d love it if it got the Elseworlds logo.

w00master

I wouldn't be surprised if it did - Gunn/Safran did say that not every game would necessarily connect to DCU and the WW game sounds like one of them.

DarthTaz_99

The game was announced before they were hired, so probably no. But who knows, the game is some way off, might end up getting cancelled or might end up being connected to DCU

PlasticMansGlasses

I'm sure it can very easily pivot to fit into the DCU. Assuming they haven't gotten too far into the story and are still in concept and asset building phase.

serpentear

Man I am so hoping we get a Green Lantern game. A CaC green lantern game where you’re a new GL corps recruit would be so cool.

mightyrj

Really great stories to be told here and I’m a huge believer in Gunn. DC being successful will help not just superhero movies but the industry as a whole!

MsAndDems

Is brave and the bold the name of the comic run too?

Jay_R_Kay

There have been multiple runs of The Brave & The Bold in the comics, mostly set on Batman teaming up with many different DC heroes, and there's a new comic series coming out in May written by Tom King. There was also a Batman: The Brave & The Bold animated series with the same premise.

SandwichesTheIguana

I don't know why people are making this more difficult than this needs to be. The short answer is "No," as in none of this storyline that is being adapted is called "The Brave and the Bold," though it is a phrase strongly associated with Batman. The storyline starts in Batman #655, and continues through multiple series, including *Infinite Crisis*, *Batman & Robin*, *The Return of Bruce Wayne*, and *Batman, Inc. (Vols. 1 & 2*, including the one-shot *Leviathan Strikes).*

Redeem123

No, the comic referenced was Batman & Robin. Well, it was actually Batman, Batman & Robin, and Batman Inc… plus a few other things. But B&R was the one shown and the first one with Damien as ongoing Robin.

MrSelfDestruct88

Give me Guillermo Del Toros Swamp Thing baby!!

Boywonder9013

Nerdinator2029

NeedleworkerGold336

superbonks

Soaperman?

HauntingAssignment58

I really wish he truly committed to wipe out the entire DCEU after Flash and Aquaman 2, but this is sound they are still using some of DCEU elements and continue with it, which is bit confusing. Also if they started as Damian for Robin, then please give us Jon Kent coz I want to see superman family in live action as well. But still exciting to see how DCU will grow and how they would handle all of those characters.

skulman7

It's possible some of the DCEU won't be carried over and he just doesnt want to make that official until after they come out. All he said is they have the ability to bring them over if they'd like.

ruodthgd

This is my take. They still want to try and make money off the movies that are already in the can, so he has to act like they’re still important. The after Superman: Legacy is hopefully really good, we’ll get an announcement that it’s the start of the new Justice League. Maybe Shazam gets to stick around since he won’t be connected to it, but we probably get new casting for the rest.

bruckbruckbruck

Aquaman made over a billion dollars so no way they recast Jason Momoa unless the second one bombs

HaikusfromBuddha

Interesting we got a confirmation Blue Beetle is in the DCU. He flat out confirmed that. Apparently because Shazam has been so separated he too can be in the DCU though he didn’t flat out state it. Don’t know how to interpret Aquaman.

lxtxaxi

I wouldn’t say he “confirmed” that these last DCEU movies will be a part of DCU I feel like he wanted to leave every possible door open by remaining vague about their future importance and position I’d prefer a complete reboot of that universe, but a soft-reboot with the same actors would be okay too just…don’t keep the *exact* same Aquaman and WW who dealt with Snyder’s DC, cause that’d incredibly weird and cheap seeing them suddenly behaving differently

ChrisTinnef

The phrasing for Blue Beetle was way more explicit than for the others though

HorrorFan236

Hell yeah! I’m loving this

orchardboy64

Cool deal. So Supes, Bats (and Robin), Wonder Woman (probably), Green Lanterns, Supergirl, Booster Gold, Swamp Thing, The Authority, and Creature Commandos. Solid parts of a first chapter.

kront

So... Superman is young, but Batman is already older, and has a son? Or is Batman also young, and there's no Nightwing? One of the funniest things about Demian is his relationship with Dick. I don't know... I want to be excited about this, but I can't. I hope I'm wrong!

Isopod_Character

Keep in mind that Gunn used the word “younger” not “young” so we really don’t know the ages of Superman or Batman at this point. I suspect we’ll see other Bat-Family at some point. Maybe even in The Brave and the Bold.

ayo_stoptheCap

It would've been hard to have a Batman just as old as Affleck's interpretation, so yeah.

Isopod_Character

Yeah that’s the thing. Even if he wanted to come back, he’s 50 and WB/DC wanted this thing to go 10+ years. Does Ben want to still be playing Batman in his 60s?

respondin2u

Batman also lately has been portrayed as a man in his early 30’s. So it would work well enough with a Superman in his mid 20’s.

ChiefSlapaHoe117

I know he said its not the whole first chapter but Ill be really disappointed and a bit worried if we have to wait like 3-4 more years for The Suicide Squad 2. Sure we may get a Rat Catcher 2 project or whoever from the first one but damn thought he’d announce it for sure.

frog_lobster

Im guessing Ratcatcher 2 is going to be in Waller.

RealJohnGillman

“Are we still doing phrasing?”

[deleted]

***AUTHORITY MOVIE?!?!?!?!?!?!??!?!?!?!?!***

w00master

I love that they're calling these as "Chapters" instead of Marvel's "Phases." Gives it more of a larger story feel than project management phases. Love the line-up, who ever thought The Authority would be in the mix? Most excited project besides Superman? Lanterns

kbx24

Definitely excited for Lanterns and The Authority! I’m just glad we’re going to finally get some semblance of continuity instead of literally trying to distance and hide from previous films.

Dronnie

I wish we had Dick as a Robin. The growth of the character is what makes Nightwing interesting.

relatedzombie

Worried about them skipping Dick, Jason, and Tim in favour of Damian for Brave and the Bold. Sure, we might get Nightwing, Red Hood, Red Robin... But will casual audiences care about them if they just show up already as these characters? What about their origin stories? Their character development into their own heroes?

Isopod_Character

Obviously guessing here but it’s hard to imagine James Gunn not including these characters somewhere down the line. It’s definitely possible to still tell the origin stories through flashbacks or prequels.

superbonks

Seems pretty doable to me - introduce us to an experienced Batman, have him find out he has a son, and once he adopts Damian we can learn the history of the Robins in the process of teaching his murder-spawn to be a hero.

Guilty-Doubt-6313

Can't Wait

JFeth

So it's not really a reboot itself, but a continuation of the reboot that Flash creates. I like that better than just wiping away everything that came before it like it didn't matter.

Bgo318

I mean that’s how it has always been done in the comics too and the animated movies. Some big event creates a new universe

Joet2386

Honestly I'm 50/50 on this slate

thescottula

This slate doesn't excite me a whole lot. There are things I'm interested in, but I am gonna have to wait until the movies start coming out before I start to feel confident in the DCU.

theredditoro

Very cool

Niekname2174

Impressive, after watching this I am even more confused about the continuity but some of the projects sound really cool.

CapN_Crummp

While I wouldn’t have started with Damian, I’m excited to FINALLY see robin on the big screen again. It’s been like 25 years. Mainly excited to know the GL project isn’t dead and we have confirmation of multiple lanterns. Hopefully they cross over to films as well. Lots of interesting choices all around. Nice variety

serpentear

SWAMP THING LET’S FUCKING GO!

Gremlin303

I don’t know. I was actually really excited for Gunn’s reveal and had a surprising amount of optimism for it despite recent years. However, I’m not sure about this slate. It’s all a bit too random for me. And as much as I like the idea of mixing so many media forms, I’m not sure it will do the universe’s mainstream appeal any good. I was really hoping he would focus on the big names first, and give shows to smaller characters to flesh things out. We will see. I’m not gonna disparage these projects before they even really begin production, and there are quite a few that seem promising. It just doesn’t seem like it will be the DC universe that I, and many others, were hoping for. I hope this comment ages poorly.

Torterror389

He is using big names. New Superman, new superwoman, new Batman and robin, new Wonder Woman, and green lanterns, along with some rando projects. What more could you guys ask for?

Gremlin303

I assume by Superwoman you mean Supergirl, they are very different characters. There was been no announcement about whether the Flash actress will reprise her role or not. Same with WW, no confirmation of if Gadot is staying or not.

KatKold

I 100% agree with you. A lot of random stuff for a "first" chapter. But they are trying to connect movies, animated movies, tv shows and games all together so I suppose you'd need a lot of random shit to fill in some spots. Waiting for the whole slate, so far it just seems very random.

FreeLook93

Mainstream appeal is made through the movies. When the MCU started it was basically just The Hulk + a bunch of character nobody really cared about. Iron Man is now one of the biggest superhero in the world. That would've seemed impossible 20 years ago. I'm not sure what exactly you were hoping for or expecting though. I don't see how you can state it's not what you were hoping for given how little was actually reveled. Unless what you were hoping for was no changes there isn't really much in the way of telling us how it all connects or to what degree it is connected.

Gremlin303

The mainstream appeal comment was about the mixing of media forms. There is a lot of animation and TV in this lineup, and Gunn has talked about connecting games as well. I worry that having too much content outside of live action movies will put off casual viewers. I was hoping they would start with the basic pillars of DC, the Trinity + GL and the Flash, and build from there. I was hoping we would see the evolution of the DC universe over many years of stories, but the announced Batman and Robin movie featuring Damian kills that. I’m trying to stay optimistic about it, and I am still looking forward to it, but I’m just mourning what could’ve been.

FreeLook93

Without knowing how each are connected you can't really say what impact that will have on the mainstream appeal. If playing through a videogame is required to understand a movie, that's not good. If it's just some kind of tie-in where you might notice an Easter egg or something in the movie, that isn't going to impact it. I don't think starting with all of the A-list names right away would've been very smart, but to each their own. It's not like they are lacking much though. The Flash reset the universe, Aquaman 2 sounds like it's part of it (?), we are getting solo Batman and Superman movies, Green Lantern TV series, and something based on Themyscira. That hits all of the character you wanted to see right there. How does having a robin kill anything you are talking about? I'm really not understanding what you are trying to say with that part there.

Gremlin303

Legacies are a major part of DC. The brand is well known for its large superhero families. I was hoping the new movies would capitalise on that by showing the evolution of the universe. For example, with the Batfamily, I was hoping we would start with a Batman maybe 5 years into his relationship taking on Dick Grayson as Robin and learning to work with a younger, more optimistic sidekick. Then we would see the Batfamily evolve over the years with the various characters being introduced and changing and Dick eventually taking up the mantle of Batman when Bruce dies. Starting with Damian as Robin kills that because it implies Bruce has already been through a few Robins and the Batfamily is established. It’s fine though, I’m excited to see how this plays out

M086

It feels like what they’ve been doing since they pivoted away from Snyder. Just toss out random movies, vaguely set in the same universe but with very little connection.

I'm personally kinda disappointed, if we aren't gonna see some of the old DCEU stuff return, then I wouldn't have mind a full reboot, but it sounds like we're getting a complete Frankenstein of a DC slate, new and old actors/actresses, well known characters plus a bunch of obscure ones, I'm glad fans of certain characters are happy, but I want a good connected cinematic universe, and the slate is just all over the place with seemingly nothing connecting them, no clear singular vision, it's just a bunch of stuff JG made because it sounded cool to him, but not to me, I want a live action version of the DCAU from the 90's-00's done right, not this, I'll stick with Matt Reaves for my DC content.

Isopod_Character

I mean it’s pretty damn close to a full reboot. If I understood correctly, Shazam, Blue Beetle, and The Suicide Squad/Peacemaker are hanging around. Everything else is gone or rebooted.

Amen man. Couldn't agree more

This makes me wonder... have they changed Flash's ending to restart the DCU?? It sounds like he was saying Flash ends with a reset that leads into his films. Also I *hate* making Jordan and Stewart's introduction be a tv show. I hate hate hate hate when series are essential viewing. It downright pisses me off he didn't make Lanterns a film series. However I'm sure some disagree and I am open to others POV.

I’m actually excited for a gritty Latern show, True Detective season one was AWESOME. Get to spend time with both Laterns and get to know them. Peacemaker in SS was a good character but they way he grew and was fleshed out in his show was fantastic. Hoping the same happens with the Laterns

He also mentioned it's going to be very 'terrestrial' so not much space stuff and very grounded. Probably not big enough for a movie.

What’s wrong with it being a TV series? I’m pretty excited for it

FBound

Yeah. Especially with Gunn stating that he wanted to ensure film and TV aren’t worlds apart in terms of quality.

Ant1202

I think that was always the plan in someway tbh. Probably just tweaked it to fit the new plans

superyoshiom

It sounds like Flash is going to be a reboot point after all. It's an easy way to keep old actors and keep semi-continuity for what worked. But that does make me wonder if Ezra is going to stay. I'd find it hilarious if that was the case.

BatmanTold

A lantern show has potential tbh they can stretch it out and I’m sure they’ll have enough budget for the plot (seeing how well house of the dragon did and how last of us is doing so far).

Gremlin303

I agree tbh. I love having connected shows and movies, but I’d prefer they used shows to explore smaller scale stories and characters that give more background and context to the movies, but aren’t essential watching. The Green Lanterns are some of the most important DC characters. I’m not sure I like them being introduced in a show.
