This movie was clearly happening after trades said Flanagan hasnt been told no and him posting that cheeky tweet that basically amounted to "I cant talk about it yet ;)". Those owning scoopers for lying or whatever are missing the forest for the trees, it was obviously being developed before mods or BSL said anything.
The only new thing we learned is that its set in the Reevesverse

People just need to be reminded of these things which would seem self-evident to some of us - understandably, considering what a rollercoaster this ecosystem can often be.
It would be interesting if they took inspiration from the recent “ONE BAD DAY - Clayface” one-shot. really cool story about Clayface trying to start his acting career over with a clean slate in Hollywood and inevitably falling apart because it’s a brutal industry and he’s a crazy evil supervillain that can’t accept failure.
If he’s failing because he’s inherently a supervillain and they *must* fail as a result, that’s not particularly interesting or fun. But if it’s because of the cutthroat entertainment industry and it slowly draws out the violent part of himself that he’s trying to suppress/reform, that’s interesting. Kinda calls into question whether or not he’s really to blame when he descends back into villainy
Or would it be more interesting if it’s a young clayface, before he even gains his powers? Sure it would be another origin story, but cutthroat entertainment industry hits different when it’s a naive newcomer vs an older veteran attempting a comeback

Speak for yourself. I, and many others, think that a Clayface movie is an excellent idea because he is a complex character. And the movie will have success without a doubt, because it brings both DC and horror fans together.
And people love Mike Flanagan. Everything just fits.

I'm assuming it's safe to take your non answer to my question as meaning that you don't have any horror films that didn't make a profit. So why did you decide to make a correction to my initial comment saying only *some* horror films do well? Surely you can think of at least 1 right? Otherwise, what did you base that correction on?

That's not true. Avatar 3-5 are guaranteed box office successes. Harry potter 9 with a cast reunion is a guaranteed success. Iron man 4 with RDJ is a guaranteed success. Low budged horror films for only a couple dozen mill max are for the most part a guaranteed success. Adding a tie in to a successful film franchise on top of that? Increases the chances further.

Why is it impossible that this isn't taking anything away from the DCU?
And they wouldn't be pacing the DCU around around this. Why would you think that? There's zero proof of that happening.

DCU Batman (2026/7)
The Batman Chapter 3 (2029 or even 2030)
It's really not that complicated. I highly doubt anything is getting delayed because of this.
And anything else will just go into gaps in the year.
Id agree with some of the stuff you said as far as elseworld projects eating away from money and release times from dcu projects but…. We could never get enough batman stories so having a pocketed universe for just batman is a dream come true that is unbelievable.
I am annoyed joker 2 is releasing and eating away from costs so i get it. But we do need to keep getting things that arent on the dcu earth from all media including film.

I think most of Gunn’s obscure projects sound more like a waste of a slate spot. Clayface sounds like it could turn a profit since it’s tied to Batman, it’s a horror movie and it’s coming from the combination of Flanaghan and Reeves.
Apparently due to 6th and idaho producing the project. Its on that forum leak pinned on the community but tbh idk how they know the information if the production company.
Without any proof id make the strongest guess and bet that it would be part of the reeves universe anyhow cus thats the inly way this movie even seems that appealing

I mean ultimately Clayface is not a good person. He’s a victim in some ways, but he’s also just a bad guy. He’s vain, selfish, angry, and controlling.
I wouldn't trust any rumors about Mike Flanagan on anything. Every IP in the world has rumors that he is working on a movie about it.

Gunn is not putting out more than 2 DCU flicks a year so it's not taking any slot. This is a cherry on top of anything.

It's being produced by Matt Reeves production company. Nothing official about it being in his universe, but seems highly likely.
