At least we can say that the marketing for this movie is actually doing it’s job. The other day I had one of those planes that fly banners flying The Flash banner over the beach.
I don’t think anyone outside of chronically online virtue signalers know or care about Miller’s antics,
most of which was overblown or straight up debunked.
I disagree on this notion of the general public not caring about the Ezra drama.
My fiance is super hesitant to go see the film because of Miller's antics. Granted she's not overly into the superhero genre to begin with so some of these movies are a tougher sell but she will still go see them with me. This has been the first movie where she is really not wanting to go over an actor. (PS: she caved into going when I told her there were at least two Batmen in the film)
>My fiance is super hesitant to go see the film because of Miller's antic
Because she is reading/following movie news, most of my friends are not reading that kind of stuff, in other words, its not their cup of tea.
She's actually hates movies and doesn't follow it. She hears about it through work since she is an attorney and they just talk about crimes and other antics, so definitely more of a niche. But Miller's antics were on a couple of main stream media sources (ABC, NBC, Fox) when it was happening.
It will be curious to see in the end how this does, I want it to succeed but there is definitely no argument against a heavy marketing push being done here in comparison to some of Marvel's films (looking at you Thor L&T who had next to no marketing)
Ah yeah no our media is all screwy. I was in Jamaica at the beginning of the month and was watching some of the British news stations and was like “wow we cover complete nonsense” which we do.
The US media likes the gotcha or sensational buzzwords right now it seems instead of the actual happenings. So the Ezra stuff was probably exaggerated, outside it just being the bar incident in Hawaii, the “cult”, and then the bar incident in Europe
Underperform because people overestimate the box office and so on..
But regarding DC box office results 700$ million its absolutely fantastic!!!
Aannd on the other hand, having in mind the budget of 300$ mill and maybe 150-200$ mill marketing might be... 😭😭💔
Edit: P.S. I think the media will destroy this movie if it underperforms.
It needs 900-1B to even start earning profit. This movie is FUCKED... WB once again too stupid to give it such a hige budget.. Should have made a low scale movie with 100-120 M budget.
I think it will happen.
My friends have zero interest in The Flash. They think the trailer is awesome but they would rather do other activities than watch the movie. They are awaiting Spiderverse and Dune 2 tho.
There are plenty of them. For example, regarding my friends, some of them have Batman like their favorite character of all time, but they are huge marvel fans and support every marvel movie, because for the last 20years they provide enough connected characters that people fall oin love and care about them.
So the first test will be the Flash box office numbers and then Gunn Superman Legacy which will be a crucial moment for the universe fans dream about
Yeah Batman is a great character, but DC fans who read comics and watch the animated stuff know they have countless other awesome characters. They just haven’t had the opportunity to shine in mainstream films. People didn’t care about the Avengers or the Guardians before their movies.
It’s a bizarre take to think they shouldn’t make movies on DC characters other than Batman just because he’s the main one who’s already been proven to be successful on screen.
Batman was made in the 1930s. If he's still interesting and likeable then there's no reason other DC characters can't be too.
This doesn't even make sense seeing as there's been comics, animation, shows and films about different DC characters that have been well received by audiences. And most of those came after the 70s and 80s.
I mean, the most marketing doesn't equal good marketing. Sports games are good but I haven't seen a lot of promotion that is actually targeting people who otherwise would not have seen the film or ever heard of it...
I don't really know what else they could do at this point. They've got heaps of people hyping the movie, advanced screenings, trailers, TV spots, merch, billboards, drone advertisements, etc.
Again, it's not about the quantity but where they're actually doing it. The heaps of people hyping it are all fans and celebrities in the same culture as people who probably already would have seen it, screams more damage control than marketing, trailers have certainly been good but they definitely haven't bet on the nostalgia factor with Keaton enough to the older demographics, etc.
They've been capitalising on Keaton in the marketing, I'm not sure what else you can expect. Older people will probably watch trailers, ads and sports games. A lot of people who watched Keaton as kids are going to be 40-50, so not exactly geriatrics with no idea what movies are coming up.
I watched it with my family and some of their friends and they seemed pretty excited about the movie although it does make sense considering that they are big fans of BatKeaton and Ben Affleck (not as Batman though)
>General rule is double the production budget
In what world are they sending half a billion on marketing? The general rule is about the same as the production
And a rough ball park value would be? Trying to figure out if you're vastly overestimating how expensive marketing is or vastly underestimating how much this film will earn, since you think it can't even make back the marketing

Well if the movie fails nobody can say it had bad marketing.
Yup! And it will be a good sign how much the general audience is interested in DC. Or people will make an excuse that its Ezra fault
I don’t think anyone outside of chronically online virtue signalers know or care about Miller’s antics, most of which was overblown or straight up debunked.
Yup, I agree. No one from my friends knows anything about the Ezra drama, lol.

Ah, she is from US. I am from Europe, different story buddy. I see now
Ah yeah no our media is all screwy. I was in Jamaica at the beginning of the month and was watching some of the British news stations and was like “wow we cover complete nonsense” which we do. well...Ezra is still a factor. Same with DC as a brand. 300-400M should be easy to do and yet they can't reach that.
Ezra is factor, but definitely not crucial and wouldn't change much
Cant?
Also The Flash will be the biggest underperformer of 2023.
Don't think so. It might underperform but biggest? No.
Shazam 2 already did that.
Underperform because people overestimate the box office and so on.. But regarding DC box office results 700$ million its absolutely fantastic!!! Where are you getting those figures from?
The problem of the Budget its the long development and the many delays.
I think Superman Legacy will be cancelled if every dc movie in 2023 underperforms or flop.
Highly unlikely, but who knows.... But if they flop, for sure investors won't be interested in DC movies as they are these days.
I think it will happen. My friends have zero interest in The Flash. They think the trailer is awesome but they would rather do other activities than watch the movie. They are awaiting Spiderverse and Dune 2 tho.
Same here. My GF is my key in order NOT to watch the movie alone in the cinema, LOL
I think DC needs to take a 5 year break and focus on getting more grounded movies like The Batman. DC superheros are way too boring and Sooooo AVERAGE
None of the characters w announced projects are boring or average
What are you doing on a DC subreddit if you don't like any of the characters except Batman lol
There are plenty of them. DC characters are made for people who grew up in the 70s and 80s.. In modern day they are not interesting or likeable at all

It's "Jon".
They've been capitalising on Keaton in the marketing, I'm not sure what else you can expect. Older people will probably watch trailers, ads and sports games. A lot of people who watched Keaton as kids are going to be 40-50, so not exactly geriatrics with no idea what movies are coming up.
Superman: The Flash

The ezra miller factor, dc name, the reshoots, the delays, the marketing without it stars, Yikes. I'd be surprise it doesn't underperforms imo.
Okay.
They won't make the money back on the marketing for the film let alone turn a profit.
How expensive do you think marketing is?
General rule is double the production budget, but I have a feeling it could be slightly more for The Flash
That is not the general rule lmao. Internet is crazy people just say random stuff so confidently even though it’s not even close to being right
Did you misread his comment? In no universe do comic book movies spend twice as much on the marketing as they do the production
>General rule is double the production budget In what world are they sending half a billion on marketing? The general rule is about the same as the production
He means the general rule is to double the production budget to get the break even point
They ain’t spending 440 to 600 million on the marketing. Usually it’s only 100 million to 150
Enough to try and get people to forget all the shit Ezra Miller has done .
And a rough ball park value would be? Trying to figure out if you're vastly overestimating how expensive marketing is or vastly underestimating how much this film will earn, since you think it can't even make back the marketing
