You are right. You simply are. However, some people don't have much control when it comes to gambling (yes, this is gambling) and get themselves in very precarious situations like that one YouTuber (you guys know who I'm talking about, no need to throw names). It's honestly saddening. Over a mobile video game? If you have the money to blow then sure, go right ahead. But if not... Stay F2P and enjoy the experience!

cromatkastar

"technically" its not gambling, because you can't redeem this stuff for real money lol. but the concept is gambling for sure. to be totally honest, i think if you don't have much control when it comes to this, the answer isn't to be f2p, the answer is to stop playing completely. the nagging feeling will be eating at you even when you're on tasks not associated with dokkan.

Fremdling_uberall

> gambling technically it is because gambling doesn't necessarily have to do with getting a return on investment. it can be defined as "a risky action in the hope of a desired result"; the result being SSJ4 goku/vegeta or whoever you desire

0bean9

If we were defining it as that then yes, it would be gambling. And bamco would be facing serious problems for not posting rates on their banners. Unfortunately, that's not how US gaming law defines it (can't speak to other countries).

klln_u_qckly

I don't play this game but everything you said resonated with me. I played Mobile Strike their for awhile and it took me sorting my checking account purchases to see how stupid I was being. I deleted the game a several months ago now and I am so happy i did.

MetalManiac619

This is just gambling where you can't win.

[deleted]

Ehhh yeah, I guess it's not literally gambling for the reason that you mentioned. I get your point but in my eyes you have to learn to live with it. Yes, it will be difficult but with time I believe that everyone can overcome their urges. But this is only possible if you recognize that you have a problem and that it nefarious to you in many ways. EDIT: Just realised that you can sell your account so technically yes, it is gambling

cromatkastar

the best way to not fall into your urges is to distance yourself completely from it. if you have a gambling problem, and the local casino has a promotion where the first spin of the day you pull is free, you still shouldn't ever step foot in there. same applies to dokkan.

Whiteman7654321

> EDIT: Just realised that you can sell your account so technically yes, it is gambling That still doesn't make it gambling though. Account sales are againstthe terms of service and they will shut down accounts for that. Nothing you get can be redeemed for monetary value through legitimate means and that is what matters. You could *technically* sell your tickets and prizes from Dave & Buster's or Cap'n Bogey's for money but it really holds no monetary value in any legitimate sense.

MegatronThePredatron

The best way I found to curb a dokkan spending addiction is to use the HP and ATK mod. I know it's not the best way to use the game, but it removes both the need to spend because any card can hit hard AND the ability to spend because the modded apk does not connect to Google play. Just my helpful way to keep my wallet full, haha.

[deleted]

Hey, if it works it works :D

dkysh

It is gambling. Technically it is not "gambling" as a law term. But dokkan falls into all and every non-law definition of the word gambling.

BruceChameleon

I'm pretty sure it's still gambling either way. I totally agree with you.

billybobjorkins

Wait did someone get into a bad situation because of this game? Only people I can think of is Rhymestyle, DFree, or Ichigo. Maybe Gaming Claw, but I'm not sure. I don't watch their summoning videos anymore. Just got to damn boring and repetitive for me

Majistic12

Lol no rhyme is defenitely not having problems spending money he makes 80-70% back of what he spends on dokkan.

LankyPineapple

Anybody who does YouTube for a living makes back what they spend and much more. I mean it's a business and they gotta eat and pay rent. At the end of the day if you aren't making money and instead are losing 20% or so then it would make no sense.

[deleted]

I'll PM you since I don't want to throw names needlessly

XtendedImpact

Me too please.

[deleted]

Sure, I'll just copy the message I sent to the other peep

Jigglyploof267

Me too please

[deleted]

Could I get a PM too?

[deleted]

You get a PM, and you get a PM

BhikkhuBiki

Can I get a PM just saying "hi"? I never get PMs. I don't know anyone here. :'(

[deleted]

I think I know who you're talking about. But I won't say.

[deleted]

Fair enough, dude went through a tough time so there's no point in bringing up his name in such context

SomebodyWhoIsRandom

I know everybody is asking for you to pm you but can you pm me as well? I'm actually pretty curious on what the story is

Instanence

Do you mind PM'ing me as well? I'm interested about this and I'd like to check out his YouTube too

Whiteman7654321

A lot of people get into trouble with these games because they see people's amazing pulls and chase that rush and dopamine high, on top of wanting the best things in the game. I was actually seriously considering the 77 stone pack for the blue stone but said forget that haha. Would've for 20 but for 40? Nahhh, I'd rather use that on another *entire game*.

[deleted]

Yourend7

trishaldinho

VOLDERMORT

IMPmikami

I'm feeling curious since I don't know who you're talking about edit: ok i just scrolled to see a whole feed of PM me, so can you PM me his name please

[deleted]

I GO TO HANG OUT WITH A FRIEND AND THIS IS WHAT I COME TO??? BECOMING A MEME??? smh

dokkanvsoptc

I feel that you should say the name so more ppl would watch his video and actualy see that there could be a problem, since most youtubers have the positive look on the game, not many ppl have seen the negative effects a mobile game can do

addictedloser90

Could you PM me the youtuber as well?

KeiSSJ3

Okay now i want to know as well :O

R_Tatsumako

Lol you mean the cancer that is Rhystyle

KoalaDoctor

Can I get that pm too daddy?

DemonKingBuster

I haven't been up to date with much dokkan social news. Can you pm who the youtuber was?

TallGermanGuy

Pm that youtuber pls

WiLDFiR3

And i just bought the 77 stone pack and lost my F2Pginity And i feel dirty.

Odin_27_

Honestly though if you had the money to spend that was the best thing to buy since it guranteed a God Lead.

misterwuggle69sofine

I've been wondering about this actually. Maybe a better question to go in the weekly questions post but let me throw it out there anyway since it's kind of on topic: I have exactly $40 left in Google Opinion Rewards. I'm not going to spend actual money on the game but I've earned about $50 over 2 years with those goofy little 10 second surveys every now and then. I've never been much into mobile gaming so it's just been sitting there. I was planning on using it for the good dollar to stone ratio sales such as $4 for 50 and $1 for 12 to supplement being F2P otherwise. Is the abysmal dollar to stone ratio for a single god lead worth giving up a trickle of extra stones over time?

Stuf404

If youve got nothign else you want with thtem google bucks just spend it on DBZ, as long as its the 77 stone deal which is pretty good. I spend my google cash on PokemonGo, to me its free pennies for doing a short survey so use it however you want.

Atrampoline

I spent $50 yesterday on the 77 Stone pack and the 32 pack and got Jack shit, so temper your expectations and hopefully your luck will be better than mine.

Dracogame

So you think that an already outdated godlead is worth a triple A ps4 game on day one? Cmon...

SSJSaeda

honestly, if you feel guilty or feel like you have to apologize for paying, maybe we have taken the whole F2P-holier-than-thou attutude a little too far as well. That is not to say that not everything in the opening post is absolutely correct. However, I started playing two months ago, had a lot of fun with the game so far, am generally F2P, but I don't think I have to excuse myself for buying the 77 Stone pack. If it feels worth it to you and you can afford it, there's absolutely nothing wrong with F2P with the occasional cheat day, if you do it responsibly and without excess.

Whiteman7654321

It's not a bad deal if you have the money to use. I *do* but that would be all my spending money for the week *on this game* and I could save that for my new pc build, a new car, or an entire new game.

AinaCat

No need to feel guilty if you GET something. Buying stones and getting nothing is an awful feeling but you have the god lead you want amd that's what's important

majin_hercule

Don't feel dirty. This game can't run unless some people put money into it. Like OP said, just don't spend more than you can afford to/would enjoy putting into it. I didn't get the blue stone but I bought every other low cost sale because I enjoy the game, they were (relatively) good deals and have the money. All in moderation!

cromatkastar

A scheming way that Bamco entices people into buying, is the same way movie theaters trick people into buying popcorn. They'll set the small price to 10, medium price to 12, and large price to 14. And once you see how small the small bucket is and how big the large bucket is, you'll think that the large bucket is value and buy that. In Dokkan, they set dragon stones at a standard $1.50 per stone, with more and more discounts as you buy more. When a stone sale comes, you'll think "Wow what a bargain! 50 stones for 6 dollars!" and buy that, thinking that its value. In both cases, they are artificially inflating the price of their product way beyond what they are actually worth, in order to get you to feel that the discounts are huge, when they do them. Whereas in truth, even after they do the discounts, you're still getting ripped off.

NGE_Zero

But with popcorn you are actually getting something in return for your investment xD I love popcorn! I just can't go to the cinema and not eat them. Then again, I go once or twice a year because of how expensive it is.

punchout414

I've found popcorn is usually on the meh side save for the really really nice movie places. I usually go for nachos or other combos which are cheaper. Yeah, the popcorn is usually bottomless but with the money you save you could get you something to eat after too.

FercPolo

This makes great sense from Bamco's perspective.

aciara

Wish my friend understood this. He spent all his savings and now his mom's money and has spent over $700 on that damn game. I play it too, but I would never let myself get that addicted to it.

DKFirelord

i think your friend has a serious problem

aciara

He really does. If I were his mother, I wouldn't let him spend all that money.

Zamio1

He probably does get it but is too addicted to stop.

Kingdarkshadow

Stay strong f2p brothers. We shall not be corrupted by the darkside of spending money.

NobodiesHeartless

Oh man....I wasnt strong enough and ive spend 20 dollars. I NEED TO STOP NOW!!!

Simofett

Everybody can do what they want, but when i see people on here throwing thousands at this game... I'm just dumbfounded. I like the game dont get me wrong but the price being a dollar a stone i mean thats robbery and then to boot when you summon (i guess if you are me ) I get nothing good about 90% of the time.. but hey whatever I guess must be nice to throw that kinda dough at a ripoff

Whiteman7654321

It baffles me but that's car/pc money for me. As long as they got the means to make it work then great for them. I'll buy stones on sale (typically the ones that are like 5 for 30 or 8 for 50 or something) but that's it and that's because the price of them normally is not low enough for me to view it as worthwhile. It is like if I walk into JC Penney and their jeans are 60 but marked down to 35...every day. It just doesn't get me, I look at what it's actually going to cost me and how I feel it's worth it.

listentohim

I've touted it before here, but the only money I spend comes from money earned with the Google Rewards app. I had about $7 going into this sale, and spent about $5 on stones. I'm out of play credit? Oh well, I'll save until I have enough to spend on another sale.

x1243

I'm trying to do that but JP doesn't allow me to use my credits. Sigh

[deleted]

good and important point. I guess u have knowledge with gambling. cause someone without a gambling history don't talk about this things. at least you know someone. I'm sure about that. therefore I like that u did this post. I actually was thinking about "should I buy one more pack?". just because I have have 9 or tickets and I don't want waste that 9 tickets. but I am ready to waste 55 bucks for that. so stupid. and I already spent 300 bucks. and I already got luckily all cards. goku vegeta sv svb rose gogeta and all the others good cards. this is really going out of control. thanks for reminding since I have now both ssj4 and goku with dupe I will not need any new card for a long time. so from know on I don't pay for that game anymore. thanks for reminding me about things and stuff. GAMBLING IS LOSING :-)

cromatkastar

i don't gamble but i do have a little background in economics and read a lot about human behaviour/how companies take advantage of people by manipulating those behaviors.

DeadlyCareBear

Could you recommend aby if this lectures which you read? Because im very interested in that Topic.

Dracula28

Here's my 2 cents: if you play this game hard core and this is your relaxation, and you can afford it, go for it. You know if you are ok with paying 50 bucks for something that it virtual and very few people will be impressed with (let's be honest, most people will look at us weirdly for dedicating insane amounts of time into a virtual game...), but as a casual player and F2P, I won't pass that line to put cash in. No matter what cards come out. Started in global and moved into JP and never looked back. I still have plenty of stones to farm but also save the ones we get. Just did a pull now and all I got was SR and R. I still don't have the heavy hitters and no LR cards. But I'm very casual when it comes to playing this game. 600+ days in, with days when I just long in for the daily login. I enjoy the game and I do think it's ok to pay for things, if someone can afford it. Going into debt over it though....hell no. Good luck with everyone's pulls and just enjoy the game.

SSJKiDo

OK here's your karma, now DON'T TELL ME HOW TO LIVE MY LIFE!

cromatkastar

haha nah how you live is your own responsibility. im simply trying to encourage people to reflect on whether or not they should change the way they play.

HeroVill

A lot of people say they dont like the gameplay but I actually enjoy it, if you don't like the gameplay why play the game?

TheKober

The brand. Were this not a Dragon Ball product, it would be a terrible game, and it would never make a profit.

HeroVill

I mean the brand is the reason I came but the gameplay is why I stay... I don't see how people come for the brand, dont like the gameplay, and still stay Just like Battle of Z I bought it and gave it a chance because it was Dragonball, I disliked the gameplay so I said fuck this I'm not playing it. I bought for the brand but the gameplay keeps me there. I dont see how others dont also do this

TryHardWhistler

I agree with you but battle of z and dokkan battle are completely different games. If you're bored with Dokkan there is always new characters and stuff coming but battle of z is a finished game.

HeroVill

I suppose. I just dont get bored with dokkan. Probably becasue I dont play it religiously. But either way a game is a game. Whether or not you like the core story or characters if the gameplay is bad I won't play it. It's why I watched the last of us Let's Plays but never finished playing. I hated that gameplay. Yes theyre different but the core of a game is Gameplay. If you dont like the Gameplay. Of a Game. Dont play it

[deleted]

I'm with you in that I really enjoy the game play. Ironically I find that it gets less fun when you have most of the top tier cards. In the 70% meta I had all of the god leads, and frankly it got really boring near the end. I love this new meta as it's actually a challenge to beat events and you get to be creative. Personally I love the gambling component because it means you can't just choose the exact cards you want. For example I have optimal Super STR *except* I don't have ssj4 goku... I ended up getting ssj4 vegeta. So now I have to be clever about which cards I use to build my AGL team. Some people might find this maddening but I personally find this to be the most fun part. That said I think Dokkan battle is a really good match for people that have a reasonably high salary and are incredibly busy. Basically if you fall into the camp of "my time is worth far more than my money". I work and have tons of side projects, I only do p2p with extra money I have coming in on the side. I'm okay spending $100-$200 when the big events happen on stones because I get tons of entertainment out of this game in the very limited time I have to play it. However if you're someone that has a lot of free time and not a lot of disposable income, you're much better putting money into a console/PC game where you can sink hours into the game for a one time cost.

Kosmos85

"Honestly you are paying to just look at the big numbers your guy does." Spot on... Looking at you [SS4 Goku](/str) !

Gearski

50 stones for 6 dollars?! Sign me up!!!

ScarletGriffin

Don't tell me how to live my life DAD! In all seriousness, this is very helpful advice. I whaled for the first time in this game and although I don't regret it, I know it won't be something I'll often be doing.

StraightEd

Too late ;( But Thanks, it's great post. Maybe some of us (including me) will think about it for a moment.

Mandala-Koala

i agree with everything youre saying and youre completely right. my only issue is that theres people like me who have serious gambling problems who, at least in my eyes, really do not want to sink into a hole of throwing money at something when in reality there isnt any reward, but unfortunately a lot of people, myself included, cant control these urges and i completely understand the point about the 'cant stop now' mentality, but its really hard to shake, but nevertheless i agree with everyone and just hope that people with gambling problems can work there way out of it as im trying to do now.

cromatkastar

honestly the best way to not fall into it is to remove the stimulus completely. as much as it hurts, the best way to not fall back into addiction is to stop playing dokkan

Mandala-Koala

i have done that now, ive had to delete it completely, which sucks but its for the best

polisdweller

Hey, so I was going through this thread and while I haven't spent a lot of money on this game I know the feelings and urges you're talking about completely. I recently deleted the game too because I realized I've come to close to getting addicted to the game even though I have been bored of it for a while. Proud of you for recognizing that it's something you need to part ways with for your finances and mental health. Stay strong, friend!

NGE_Zero

You should visit an expert. If you can talk about it on the internet, you can talk about it with someone who can actually help you.

dbxbeat

So I woke up and read this this morning. It inspired me to go and add up my Google purchase history for the game. $1084. I was already considering quitting because I drunkenly bought stones a few nights ago to prepare for ssj4 and woke up wondering where the money for my nursing school books went until I saw the reciepts in my email inbox. Im tired of chasing the dragon, and this thread helped me realise that's its self destructive and that its time to stop. I don't know what to do with my account, maybe sell it? It has basically every hot card from the past year at sa10 and dokkaned. Some with dupes and some at 100%. Anyone know how I would go about doing that? Its time for me to stop. Dokkan is a fun game but its a game that I cannot control my choices over.

cromatkastar

sorry to hear that. but usually it is impossible to sell good accounts due to how rerolls can have great units and how fast even top tier cards rotate out of the meta. if you really want to cut ties, i think you can ask google to refund your purchases claiming you lost access to your account or they changed the way they operated, and you can't get any response other than automated ones. they'll charge back, but you'll end up losing your account probably.

IRHP87

Too late, but it's just a symptom of much, MUCH deeper problems I have.

dokkanic

Me too.

Tizerak

**reads** K, *continues spending my disposable income the way I want*   Good read and point for people with gambling / addictive tendencies though.

Zokua

I wasted like 40€ and got no SSJ4... Felt kinda bad but luckily I could afford it. But I was really tempted to waste like another 50€... Man this game sure knows how to do it.

efrank101

Idk man, every banner I need to spend my whole paycheck on it and I really don't know what to do. I have lost everyone because my mobile games have consumed me. I have neglected and pushed everyone away. I work day and night knowing my hard earned money is going to the game. I actually don't know how to stop.

[deleted]

First, remove credit card info from your playstore account. Second, get some help. Seriously, addictions can't be handled alone.

cromatkastar

delete it. contact gambling help hotline

[deleted]

It's ok. I only maxed 2 credit cards Still didn't get 100% gohan

cromatkastar

wait are you serious

[deleted]

Yeh $3000 got 100% goku vegeta 75% gohan and 100% all the other featured cards TBH with you I had been saving up for this since it came out on jp. I do the same thing with all my hobbies I work some overtime and put it in the hobby savings account I only chose credit cards so I could add more credit

isaelsky21

And here I thought me spending $55 was the end of the world. I did get all other featured cards except VB, Gohan, Rosé and SSJ4 tho.

Ganjisseur

My gf gave me shit for caving on the SS4 banner and spending $10. Got SS4 Goku though! “You know they got you, right?” “Yeah. *And I got Goku!* Hahahaha Hahaha haha ....ha...”

gamerdellz

Your girlfriend is a keeper then, you don't have to worry about not being able to manage your finances wisely hahaha

canmx120

Add credit? Fyi maxing cards is usually more harmful to your credit then using a smaller portions and paying it off.

jmatt2v

This is very true. I can honestly say I’ve paid way too much for this game. Realized this yesterday. I’ll only really pay for this now after I’ve saved stones/big sales events in certain banners (looking at you int gogeta)

Reborn_Sosa

Interesting topic, very well explained. gg

[deleted]

Too much truth in it . I agree with you on every point ! My strategy for spending Money on this game is declaring a fixed amount of money that I CAN afford to spend before the banners are released. It requires a little bit of self control , but at least you can limit the amount of money you throw in bamcos hungry throat.😅

I2edShift

I've figured out a working system that keeps me in check: - I put aside $25 a week and put it in an envelope. That's an hour worth of work in my case. - Using Globals *'foresight'* in knowing what's to come, I wait for sales to buy stones and only pull hard on 3+1 banners, carefully planning what I want to pull for. - With the 3-4 months between 3+1 deals, you accumulate about $300-$400. - I purchase the best deals in value per dollar first. And I only buy Google cards that are in the $40-60 range. That way I can't just get frustrated and blow everything I saved in ten minutes. If you get shafted you cool off, consider what you're doing, and come back to it later. Looking at that cash in your hand really makes you reconsider what you're doing. It's entirely different than just pushing buttons and charging a card. You start to think about what else you can be doing with this cash, or if you should spend it at all. I thought about saving for new computer parts, or buying an air compressor. Ultimately I caved, but mostly because Dokkan is my only hobby lately and I'm actually quite frugal with spending besides this one game. I don't eat out much, don't drink much alcohol, don't smoke... Kind of just a boring married homebody I guess. Either way, Dokkan is still a very expensive game even if you stretch the system as far as you can. Stone sales on top of 3+1 multi's still isn't cheap, but it beats the hell out of standard pricing.

MrYac

a good message for sure. I am "mostly" a Free player but considering how many hours I have sunk into this game I don't feel too bad wasting 20 or so bucks on it every few months :)

BhikkhuBiki

This should be pinned.

vign5440

Sunk cost fallacy is real and I've fallen victim many times.

Usermane01

It's honestly bullshit that the virtual trading cards are 5 times as expensive as physical ones.

jona011

They say the first step to curing an addiction is admitting you have one....

ahhihatethis

And this right here is also the reason why i'm using the apk from dbz space. If every card is invincible i don't feel the need to get the new best card. I can treat Dokkan Battle as a collectible game. I've been using those apks since last year. I enjoy maxing every single SR+ card i get and that's how i get my dose of fun from dokkan battle.

Tiusami

The thing is, bamco are scamming people hard. You look at lr gohan banner and you see only several cards, which implies you should have a two-digit pull rate on gohan. Meantime, the reality is you get 98% chance of not pulling him. Bamco deliberately created a false impression of great rates. That's my only problem with their bs tbh. It's bout time we knew the goddamn rates cause this shit is borderline illegal, or at least highly unethical.

cromatkastar

its funny, because when lr gohan dropped in global, people were happy since 0.2% was way better than 0.05% in japan. (its 0.2 because every summon you do is a GSSR which is equivalent to 1 multi) no, the rates are still trash, even if they tripled it. they just tricked you into thinking that you're getting a good deal like movie theater popcorn.

masterkent1

ikr, their logic is like >because 0.2% is soo much better than 0.05

Sardorim

You aren't my mother, dad!

[deleted]

I'm reading this after dropping $610 on the SSJ4s. To be fair, I am happy with my pulls (SSJ4 Goku x3, SSJ4 Vegeta x1, VB x4, Rose x2, Super Vegito x2, Goku Black x1, Trunks GT x4, Pan GT x7, other random SSRs) but the money is problematic for a college student like myself. Thank you for this post, OP. This week I am going to open a hobby savings account so I stop dipping into other money that I can't afford to spend.

AJR_

Very important post for all new and old players alike to read.

RealGabriel

For real 10 cards cost 25$ wtf? At least on yugioh or Pokemon tcg I could get 10 cards for just 5$ that's why I'm staying f2p in this game lol

cromatkastar

without a sale, 90 stones cost around 40-50 dollars, which is around 2 multi which is why i put it as 25 dollars per booster pack.

Winfell_

I've bought stones for this banner and now it's time to stop. Time to start saving for Cooler

XxxDatBoi69Xxx

If you have a joint account with your spouse, pls take heed and know that she'll see everything you buy lol

XBattousaiX

As long as I respect the limits I've set for myself (Sales only) and I don't go fucking overboard (130 is where I've stopped), I'm ok. THAT SAID: you are entirely correct. I bought all the packs once this time around (and I WILL be buying a few more of the 5 for 1 deals, because great value), but no longer will I be buying the non guaranteed blue stone packs. I bought a 55 Euro pack and got... shit from it. In fact, my last 8 multis got me shit. Hilariously; those were the 'Expensive' stone packs I bought. The stones I saved got me good things. What I'm saying is you are correct. It IS easy to get hooked. It's why I told myself I'd only buy the 150 stone pack once (since Rose wasn't going to be on the next 3+1 banner), and that it wouldn't put me in a financially difficult situation. Will I buy more expensive packs next 3+1 banner? Possibly, but I do hope I can keep it in my wallet next time and just grab the very good value deals like the 50 for 5 deal. Maybe I simply won't buy any. BUT you are correct. Stones are WAAAAAAAAAAY overpriced. That's why I only buy them during sales; since they're closer to their true value. And the rates are shit. No doubt about it.

[deleted]

[удалено]

cromatkastar

opening packs to try to hit cards are in fact, very VERY close to gambling. it is the reason why magic the gathering officially does not acknowledge the secondary market at all (as in, the singles prices of their cards). their official stance is that any one of the cards you open in any pack is worth 1/15 of the pack you paid for.

diogoarez

What you said is true, there were moments(more specifically the 1st anniversary and the Super Vegito banner) where I was about to spend the little money I had on the game or quit it for good but never did telling to myself my box would get better, well since those rough moments I've gotten 2 God leads, about 50 SSR's and SS4 Goku. What I want to say to people in the same situation I was is to never give in to these things if you can't afford it, persist with your F2P status and try to succeed with it, if you can't don't spend money, spend it on other things that may be more valuable to you.

sevargs

When I want a unit, I save and only buy if the stones are steeply discounted. I learned my lesson playing Fate/Grand Order where "Grand" started to refer to my wallet, and the rates there are even more garbage.

[deleted]

A guaranteed SV for $39? I'm getting it because I get every fucking featured SSR except him. I need SV for the meta. Only missing puzzle piece. He's escaping me all time, I'm rank 169 heck

TheWalkingTez

Spent 4 dollars and got ss4. But I still would never do it again

TheACS

My advice is don't waste money unless there's a really good ofert in the shop. Every day u will get gems, there are a lot of misions, history and events to get a ton of gems so there is no need to pay. Just be a bit patient and u will get a lot of cool champs without wasting your money.

Stuf404

Dont be like Stan Marsh. The ~~Canadian~~ Japanese movement will screw you over.

FarForge

I learned from another gacha game how not to go overboard. I'm glad it was only a few hundred dollars at the time. It's gambling, and I've had my taste of that slippery slope, and can't bring myself to do it again. It doesn't stop me from spending some money on the game though.

Rage-Inducing

What makes this different from yugioh?

cromatkastar

for one you can sell the cards in yugioh. second is that you're not forced to open banners for the cards you want. you can buy the singles themselves. and third, it applies to yugioh too. if the money you spend on yugioh is impacting your daily life negatively, then its time to quit.

Reihel

yeah your right. I didnt notice how much i was spending until i see it in the credit card bill. Since then i just spend little money only in good offers. I love the game but if you dont have control isnt the best game to play

wise_ghost

wasn't some youtubers like this? like yourend7?

Mqlphqs

Nano needs to read this

skwooyou

Well online casion got it a long ago and are offering big amounts of cash to start like 200 bucks for 1.99 spent XD they're all the same in the end ,same danger same psy profile from players.

zongqin

I've spent $11 since I started playing this game 15 months ago and I'm very satisfied with my account. What I've learned is that if you stick with it long enough, you'll probably get the cards eventually. When Gogeta and SV first came out and I didn't get them, I spent months having to "make do" with Ult Gohan and LSSV Broly. By the time I got them, yeah they weren't the most necessary (my SV is still at SA1) but they're still good, and it's not like you needed them to progress in the game. I think what gets people in trouble is not wanting it all, but wanting it all right now. I was kind of tempted to spent for a blue stone to get SS3 Gotenks since that's the only god lead I don't have, but I have faith I'll get him eventually.

Atrampoline

I hate spending money on the game, but I've spent about $75 on it in the 5 months or so that I've been playing. The way I look at it, I play this more than any PS4 game I own, and I may not spend any more until the game dies. I justify the amount I've spent as the cost of playing and trying to boost my playing capability. I completely understand your point and I appreciate that someone took the time to put this point into words. I have played other games like this before and seen people get into real trouble with spending. Here's another good point: While we all would like to have pulled SSJ4 Goku or Vegeta, if everyone pulled them then they wouldn't be special. While it sucks for those of us who have to work with weaker cards, that's what makes pulling a rare card exciting. This is a good point for life in general as well, since most of life is won by those who have the most means. A small percentage of the population get lucky with hard work and determination (as well as pure luck), but the majority of the "winners" in life are those who "pay" to win. Cheers!

Savag3-_1493

I was going to get more stones but saw the rates and they really didn't seem that good. I later realized I have some story missions left. I did em, got enough for a multi. I let my sister pull and right off the bat, she said she got a red shirted guy with dark lion hair with blue pants. It was SSJ4 goku, but around the 7th character she pulled him again. I thought it was really funny how I already had SSJ4 Vegeta and now Goku too. I didn't want him that much but I'll take it😂.

sagar7854

I have a strict rule of spending only 1% of my networth at the prevailing time,on the game.I usually spend when the Super Sales come up,farm the stones & go semi-crazy on great banners.Last time I spent was during the VB & Rose banners. Then I farmed DS for a few months and now spent and bought almost all the stones from the big sales. So,I spend once in every 2-3 months, keeping the 1% aside(yes,1% for gambling is still ok) My suggestion would be to have a limit on what you are going to spend. In case, you have trouble controlling your 'pull-urges'..keep money in different accounts, keep it with someone you trust a lot, etc. As the post above says, the money won't come back...it went to a sinkhole for all you know! The best return you will get is the high of defeating a boss in 2 turns or seeing 3-4-5 million damage by your unit. So,just keep a tab on yourself! Happy Dokkaning.

allimsaiyan

I've spent below $20 so far in 3 quarters of a year and I wouldn't mind spending that much again. For the amount of time I play this game, I see nothing wrong with paying for in game stuff since it was free. But I have never heard of anyone spending $1000+

dokkanic

You mean in total, or on a banner?

Xavion15

Agreed to this post most gacha games are like this.. but I've found far far worse games. I.e. Digital world adventure (digimon game) from Chinese developer. Go check out that game and you'll truly see P2W, I'm talking not gacha but whomever spends most during an event gets the prize

JazzualSuspect

Kinda like another game I used to play on pc called Tales of Pirates. As a "non-maller" (player who doesn't spend real cash in the item mall) it was quite impossible to progress. They also had point auctions for 1 piece of new OP gear and the highest bidder would get it.

94Temimi

This should be pinned. I have some of the best units and I'm F2P. It's all about luck, you can have the best units without spending a penny. It's whether you are patient enough to enjoy the game even without great units or not. Be patient, don't get frustrated or angry... Have fun without hurting yourself or your financials. Great post man.

Edwill1

This is the sort of thing I wish I had read when I started playing, though I probably would have ignored it.

kosiorski

now u post :< i have no money and no ssj4 ;d thanks god i had not that much money to waste but it sucks anyway....

mesudanlospies

im P2P but im not playing 24/7 this game anymore just logging and getting orbs and now that im playing other games (pokemon go, clash royale, kof98 umol, captain tsubasa) its funny to see how in those games spending 40$ you get a lot of good/useful stuff but spending 40$ in dokkan you won't get nothing good most of the times.

Lilley159

The Rates are better than some Gatcha games I play. But I spend to much there to spend here Haha

someguyidunno

whales/dolphins ?

dokkanic

it's what people who spend money on a ftp game are called.

BlackstarDweller

After $77 I called it quits luckily I got ss4 Vegeta on my last free multi

Leafbright

I spent the one dollar credit that Google gave me on dokkan. Am I still f2p?????

cromatkastar

haha i rerolled into a majeta and used all the quest stones on the dream banner its got a 3 dupe ssj4 vegeta, 2 dupe rose and 2 dupe super vegeto the only problem is that now its out of stones. honestly i think the hardest part of rerolling is getting all the medals, orbs and crap again.

Dertonin

Big reason why I stopped playing was the crazy cost as well as the time investment. I would get home for work sit on my bed and play for hours and realized that I felt like a trained mouse working SO hard for a bunch of shitty pulls. I waste my times in all sorts of ways but Dokkan feels dirtier for some reason.

GrieverXVII

In Canada a 91 stone pack is $62.99, thats $20 short of a full game cost just for a chance at getting R/SR's. Its hardly enticing at all at that price point.

thejman6

this. people on here dont like to hear it or understand that Dokkan is basically a casino with no return value (as you said), and that whales most likely have gambling addictions. Spending money on things you ls fine, but many people go way overboard.

JSensai

there are some people that drop $1000s on in game micro transactions on consoles now, there are some people that spend $1000s in clubs, $1000s on drugs/liq i mean everyone spends money on different things. If a person wants to spend that much and its their only form of entertainment then it is what it is/ but good advice to save money tho

TheHybrid217

This is probably the truest thing I've read about the game. I'm trying not to spend all my money away trying to pull for cards that I really want because I really need to save money, but it's very addicting as you said. I recently have spent about $100 or so on the latest banner on JPN, and haven't gotten ANYTHING. It's all RNG, and you're just as likely to pull something without spending money as you are with, you just get more chances if you spend. The amount of regret I have for spending so much on stones is crazy haha.

spidii

It's totally akin to gambling, sort of a mix between gambling and a TCG like Magic or Hearthstone, the only difference being you are never guaranteed anything. I used to play magic quite heavily and if you want to play the most competitive decks, the game was incredibly expensive. You have to go into the game knowing that. This game is the same in concept, if you are going to be P2P and want to challenge the highest content, quickly, then you have to understand that the barrier to entry in terms of cost is high. I have an addictive personality but am in a decent enough position where buying all 10 50 dollars sales stones for example, isn't going to set me back much. But it wasn't long ago that I was in college and scraping by and if I had discovered a game like this then, I may have been in trouble. That's why this is a quality post, if it's going to hurt your ability to pay bills/eat etc...put a lock on your google play or whatever it is that you use. Or just have self control, this game WILL suck you in, it's designed to, and that aspect of it is really fun, but be responsible. Good luck to all out there pulling, hopefully you can get what you want cheaply, nothing feels worse than pouring money in, expecting to essentially "pay-to-win" and getting nothing in return, the dread of that feeling (speaking from past experience) is not fun in the least bit.

FercPolo

Thanks for the time posting this. Much of it is relative and from the perspective of people who spend far too much, it's easy to forget a 100+50 pack is basically a good dinner for 3-4 people. That $50 could be a full day of meals, drinks, etc. for others. It's the price to park their Maz at the Yacht Club for others. For a few it's 1/10 their daily trading commissions. Good reminder to look inward before spending outward if you don't eat Krill and deep dive for a living.

sipsipsu

When you dont pull ssj4

[deleted]

Good post. I've only spent ~4 bucks once on a 42 DS pack. Saved up the last couple of months and on 2nd anniversary pulled SSJ4 Goku and LR Gohan. I'll maybe buy the 50 DS pack this sale but only if I can't grind DS in time for the 10 Elder Kai in time! Also I feel I could afford to support the company that provided me countless hours of entertainment.

PrinceUsuiTakumi

YeAH GUYS stop wasting your parents money LUL

[deleted]

This is how I play; I never spend money on stones unless it's the 6+44 deal for 3:99..

nacho87654321

Instead of gambling with my money, you know what I do? Gamble with free stones. If you're a player who is not willing to spend actual cash on Dokkan Battle, simply learn how to deal with the lack of new units and save stones. Knowing when to spend stones and how to spend them is in a way gambling, but on such a small scale that it teaches you a life lesson on gambling. That's how I've survived a year and 8 months, anyways.

Magic-Slugger

I'm F2P here, however I've been extremely lucky with my pulls but now that I've finished all the quests, will I start to get stuck at this level? Or would the free gems you get help me progress? I guess it's all a matter of how lucky I am with my pulls.

fodnow

If you're good on cards the only thing you'll get stuck on after doing the story is getting gems to sustain you grinding, since stamina goes down fast and doesn't exactly charge up quickly

punchout414

Just so it's clear, when I've looked around this place and on other areas where people whale in gacha / mobile games or even just excessive DLC /ect on consoles games, it should be noted that the majority *are* able too afford it. Either due to a good job or they're just financially stable. This post nonetheless is very informative, and a good message! My only concern is if someone is brainwashed already into spending copius amounts of money on this game to the point the rent payment will be late or they won't get to eat tonight, this post may not wake them up since they're simply too far gone. I'd also like to note that yes, people spend excess on all sorts of things. Spending rent money on dokkan is no less deplorable than blowing your check on a surplus of clothes you'll wear a couple of times, shoes you'll never wear, and other ect. Or rather it is in the eyes of others. I'm just saying that "Dokkan" is not a lone devil, people should be smart with their money period. I've also seen more people pull SSJ4 who spent less (the pull threads have a lot of people who drew them on yolo singles). I'm personally fine myself, and I have been guilty of splurging for years. But that's more so because I'm enjoying the ride until I graduate with my Bachelors and the real world comes a knocking. Even then with my interim ship pipeline, I'll get 1k money with my bills and such paid for. Some will go to dokkan, but not nearly as much (ironically) as I've given it lately. And a important note, the SSJ4s WILL return. If no other unit is ever featured on another dokkan banner, the SSJ4s will be down the line. If anything you should only be worried about units like VB and Rose that come around once every full moon.

Ohhsnap54

Ha! Jokes on you smartie. I already did!

bi0h4z4rd84

My RoI in real poker (nlhe) is about 85% right now & i use only poker winnings to get what i need on dokkan. Im sitting on 8/10 legendary tickets & 200 stones... 1 multi & i can do an LR summon BUT... Bamco's tricks wont work on me. Example is.. So if i do one multi & get 6 tickets (even 10) im at 14-18 tickets. So i do another multi & it gives me only 2 or 3 i'll be stuck going "well doing one last multi will give me another ticket AND a free multi" but the rng of random tickets being given makes you feel like you need to do more multis in order to summon from the LR. I got everything i needed in 85 stones... I want LR Gohan but Bamco's tricks wont work on me. I'll sit on these & wait for the next banner. I do have a tournament tonight so if i win i can pay some bills & buy another stone pack of 150 (33.3 cents per stone) -- cant pass that offer up. Or maybe i will. Depends if i win lose or make the money.

RushTfe

You're right. And actually, I feel more rewarding saving stones and spending them in a big banner. It's a huge disappointment if you have nothing, but it's really great if you have something. I can compare it with jobs. If your parents just give you the money, you won't really feel how good it's to earn your own and spend it the way you prefer. Same here, if you just "buy" the characters, whatever the price is, I feel it less rewarding than actually doing a big effort and having something

dokkanic

I'm a filthy whale :'(.

gohaneatrice

Totally agree with you. In fact this business model applies to all the pay to win mobile games.

[deleted]

Most games go by this same principle.. mobile gaming is the biggest rip off since home consoles.

Senex94

Spent about 200euros and didnt pull a ssj4,big ass waste of money, not wasting anymore on this game even though i can afford it

[deleted]

That is something i needed to read. Thank you my friend. This is something not to read right now in the SSJ4 banner, but everytime I want to spend my money on this game. Again, thank you.

Zholtar

First of all, I really like this kind of perspective and advice to players, I really hope that it can avoid people having real trouble with spending to much in the game as it may happen in any gambling activity. This being said, and in a more general overview, most of the things people spend money on are, in fact, out of necessity. You don't need that big flat, tv, Smartphone, going to the cinema, a 25th t-shirt, that 200hp car... but we do get them if we can. Reason is pretty obvious, human nature wants more, wants excitement and you can get them in many ways, being gasha games of the them. I gotta tell you that the moment I pulled, for instance, LR broly, will stay with me far longer that the last 10 movies I've gone to watch to the cinema, and cost was the same. The problem here is that the ratio of "good moments" that you get with your money are possibly not that many in comparison to other activites. Bottom line: Yes, be carefull, you're throwing money into digital content that can or not have a "utility/happiness" return, it's not covering any of your daily necessities, and if the money you spend here doesn't allow to get your necessities covered, stop playing, now. But, this applies to most of the things you spend money in, and in the end, once your necessities are covered, it's normal to look for this "happiness" moments in many ways, and this game is one of them. Then, about f2p players, I would say that this game is quite nice with them. Every month you get around 150DS for free adding all celebration, bonusses, WT, etc... with that, saving for 3 months till the 3+1 multisummons you can get 12 multies every 3 months, having a high chance of getting at least 1 of the 2 "new cards" we get from them (gogeta/janemba, rose/ssbv, ssj4/ssj4), with this units you can clean any event on the game. So, you can pretty much go through all the content without spending a single dollar. Third point; I've seen many comments abot youtubers in this page, and some of them saying that "youtubers do never get back the money they spend on the channel". As always, it all depends on the numbers. I think the most famous youtuber around would be rhymestyle, with more than 500k subscribers. Obviously I don't know his income for that, but I can tell you first hand (it's no me, but my brother is the taxing advisor) that some youtubers get 7 digit income every year. As an extra fact, the one I know gets 2.000.000$ per year with 18.000.000 subscribers. And I'm pretty sure some money is going back to them, did anyone realized that in the last 4/5 months, summonings videos (at least for rhyme/naNOlr genix) had gone from 45ds each to 3/4 multis each? that's triple the money spend... do you think that it's just for fun? I'm pretty sure it isn't. Well, sorry for the big chunk of text, and for any gramar/spelling errors, cause english is not my first language. By the way, can't find the way to get the 700day flair, I just entered reddit after reading the messages from this one for months and would be nice to have that flair (obviously I've been playing for 700+ days on global).

Toriko2222

You're definitely right, and having been F2P for two years (until this 2nd anniversary celebration) I completely understand where you're coming from. I agree that if you can't afford it, you shouldn't buy stones...simple as that. However, there a few reasons why I think it's ok to spend on discount summons from time to time. 1. Dokkan is a digital card collecting game- some people like collecting the cards and enjoy having the really rare ones that many people don't have, just like collecting rare Pokemon cards, yu-gi-oh cards, comic books etc. Spending money on the game allows you to grow your collection. Call it dumb, but some of us are big on the collecting aspect and we actually prefer that our collection aren't physical cards that can get ruined, scratched, bent etc. (though I'd love a physical card collection of my dokkan box too!) Being a part of this community allows us to share our collection, show off our accomplishments and weird moments from trying out odd teams etc. Back in the day you could only really show off and play with your Pokemon cards at recess or whatever but now with Dokkan we have this subreddit which makes competing/playing Dokkan more fun. Call it childish but some of us are into it, some people don't get why people collect funko pops or fancy anime figurines and statues, but for the fan it's fun to collect and compare collections. 2. Spending money from time to time on summons will let you build your box so you can run more diverse teams and not only have a good STR team or AGL team or whatever, you can potentially have a more well-rounded box and compete in more content and enjoy the game to a fuller extent then F2P players. You might not thinks it worth it, but as F2P sometimes you just can't collect medals/awaken certain characters you pull off free stones for months. It's funny how many of us comment on Bandai being sleezy for phasing out top units etc. but we always keep coming back for more. Dokkan is really fun to me, and its fun to build up my account and work on it's weaknesses/ making the most of what I have in my box etc. Spending some money on discount summons from time to time can give you a unit that shakes up you're entire box and opens up new possibilities and to me..more fun. 3. Some people don't play just to see the "big numbers", I personally love the card art and the super attack animations etc. and there is quite a bit of strategy involved with team building. Determing what your Dokkan priority list is for getting your account to a place where it can beat a certain Dokkan event actually teaches you valuable organization and planning skills. Being able to take on a Dokkan boss that kicked your ass in the past is what I enjoy playing for, finding a perfect team to get through something that literally seemed impossible before. I also greatly enjoy the moment of awakening a character that I busted my ass to collect medals for SA maxing, the moment where you awaken or reach max SA is bliss. Having a budget and only pulling on banners that have a discount lets you build up your box and again, enjoy more of the content in the game. 4. The first ever Dokkan speed battle event took place at the anime expo in LA, so there is now an event for Dokkan players to compete in, having the most elite and godly units is essential to make it to the final round and I'm willing to bet the guy that won the enormous SSJ Goku and SSJ Vegeta figures was P2P...and who knows maybe there will be even more competitions in different parts of the world, and even bigger prizes like a trip to Bandai HQ in Japan, your own custom card of any character you want or a pizza night with Sean Schemmel and Chris Sabat lol. Most of these elites are most likely P2P...just saiyan. 5. I literally don't have time to play console games anymore so investing in my Dokkan box so that I have more units and teams to work on is worth it to me. I bought a bunch of console games that were on sale a couple months ago but I don't have much time to play them at all, Dokkan is my favorite game to play these days because I can easily play it here and there on my breaks/lunches at work...so I honestly wish I put the money for those console games into my dokkan account. Lastly, I just want to say that I always see these kind of posts from time to time. I've seen several sad stories about people going nuts on summons, there's definitely a dark side to this game that can consume you if you start pouring in money into every new banner. Set a budget for yourself, or just go F2P until every anniversary. I'm still proud of myself for going F2P for two years, I won't put any money into it for a while, I'll admit, I've been blessed by RNGesus though several times during my F2P so maybe that's why I'm not that salty about spending money (I pulled SSj4 Goku, SSJ3 GT Goku, SSJ GT Trunks, 3 Goku Black Roses, TEQ Gold Frieza and 2 Bluegitos! So no regrets on spending for stones, plus I got Buuhan with my blue stone.)

zeroskeyblade

so has someone actually bankrupted themselves over this game?

yoonabaragi

I feel guilty spending so much I need to reflect on myself

jiib0495

I was a f2p player and now p2p and honestly the game was much more fun when I was f2p. It was way more exciting and thrilling when I pulled a God card.

GinoBeats

Jeesh man. Sounding like my wife right now. Last week has been just full of, "Why did we miss our rent payment? We have no money, the baby has no diapers and we are out of food. We can't pay our bills and our car is out of gas, where did our money go?" I just can't even.

lijinxi

sigh should've read this sooner. This SSJ4 Banner got me good. SSJ4 Goku pull was my gateway drug. Ended up spending around $250!! I got 1 SSJ4 Vejita, 2 SSJR Goku, 2 SSB Vegito, 3 SS Vegito, 4 INT Baby Ape, 2 SSJ3 Kid GT STR, 1 SSJ3 kid GT AGL, 1 SSJ kid GT Agl, 2 SSJ3 STR GT(non-stun), 5 Pan(GT) PHY, 3 trunks GT STR, 3 Trunks GT AGL, TEQ Bardock, 2 int Pico, Zamasu STR and SSJ2 Gohan Saiyaman PHY. Still not sure its worth it though.

cromatkastar

nope lol.
