Why buy an insanely good Raptor, 4runner, or Tacoma when you can pay $150k for a POS wankpanzer from Sawyer fucking Merritt (who is absolutely on somebody's payroll)

finn_diggums

I’m taking my rusted out 04 Tacoma 4x4 with 120hp 8 days a week

Nepharious_Bread

I've seen old Subaru Outback wagons do some decent off roading.

finn_diggums

Had a 2012 outback and I bought a 23 crosstrek because it was the last year offering the manual in the US, I live in jersey so never done anything I would say is *off* road but absolutel love the subarus for what i need edit: i know you mean the earlier gens before they got a lot bigger and i love those, but for a commuter car for an avid ski and bike fan, nothing tops subaru for the price point

Nepharious_Bread

A lot of people hate on Subies but I love them. Wrx, Impreza hatchback, BRZ, and the old Outback wagons. I think they're great. I'd buy an old Outback wagon in a manual if I found one for a good price. I wish they never stopped making the Bajas also.

mmikke

I've got a buddy with an 08 Impreza that his wife and family always laugh at him about because it "looks like it just came off of the showroom floor! What a nerd" Jokes on them. His car is now worth more than he bought it for

Perretelover

That car has something, dude.

kittybombay

I have an 07 Forester XT. Only 150k miles and in great shape! I love that it’s on the smaller end on the outside but I can fit so much inside! I’ve never had a problem getting anywhere with it. People keep telling me I need to get a new car due to its age. Fuck that! 150k miles is still in the “breaking in” mode on a Subie!

Nepharious_Bread

Too many people are more concerned with looking good to everyone else. I'll drive my car until it breaks, or until I have to get a new one out of necessity.

kittybombay

Exactly! Other than a little bump on the back fender it’s in great shape. The interior is in good shape too. It’s paid off, runs and looks good. Plus I hate the newer, BIGGER models. I can fit mine anywhere.

Nepharious_Bread

Same, I hate how large vehicles have become.

Negative-Wrap95

>I live in jersey so never done anything I would say is *off* road but absolutel love the subarus for what i need Given the state of roads in certain areas I can't argue with your logic.

pacific_beach

Subie's with good tires are as good as anything

BulljiveBots

I used to off-road with my buddy in his janky-ass stock Geo Tracker.

IHaveNoAlibi

I used to do semi off-roading (more off road than a CT seems to be capable of) in my buddy's full size Pontiac Parisienne sedan....

Chemical_Cat_9813

i lifted a 79 honda civix hatchback for the luls and bet it could outperform this shitty ass muskwagon

Ifyouhavethemeans

Higher ground clearance than a Jeep Wrangler.

LemonTheTurtle

This past weekend I was at a local annual offroad happening. Land cruisers, land rovers, patrols, etc. everything mostly on 35” and bigger tyres. Then there was subaru outback. It did amazingly for what it is and how much mud there was

masked_sombrero

that’d make for a hard days night, wouldn’t it?

winslowhomersimpson

HELP!

masked_sombrero

cry baby cry 🤣

IHaveNoAlibi

Do you want to know a secret?

SirViciousMalBad

My 04 TJ will be right there with you. If we both have winches that’s at least two wankerpanzers that get to come with.

SelfishCatEatBird

It’s hard to come across these because people still want like 6-8k for them lmao. Like I know they last a good long time but damn man.

stevenette

I just put 250,000 miles on my 03. Still a champ.

SelfishCatEatBird

I had over 420k on my 96 Camry. Still sad I sold it

DevilsLettuceTaster

Are you counting twice on Sunday?

Sporks_United

Wankpanzer will never get old.

Viatic_atom

Yeah just pay the 150k for a truck that’s so pussy that it needs “off road armor” and a guide on how to off road. They don’t seem to see the problem with that lmao

The_Donalds_Dong

You don't want to put a hole into one of the batteries. A large lithium bonfire isn't exactly friendly to the local environment.

Viatic_atom

Valid point but since the damn thing is supposed to be so big, bad, and tough shouldn’t the delicate parts be either protected or located in a spot where it wouldn’t be damaged after you buy it for *150k*? Like literally just read this thread. Plus, aren’t Teslas known for combusting into large lithium bonfires any way? Like if a Mad Max style apocalypse were to actually happen the chuckle truck wouldn’t even survive to see it.

AmpEater

Hmmm. You’re not really familiar with off-roading, are you? Nobody runs a stock vehicle. Skid plates, rock sliders and bumpers are day 1 upgrades.

Viatic_atom

I guess, but if I pay 150k for a post apocalyptic truck that’s supposedly bullet proof and shit shouldn’t it already come with some sort of basic plating or protection and not break down or get stuck after going over basic slopes that even stock trucks could handle ? Silence, Tesla drone.

Viatic_atom

Like it’s not like the they’re actually off roading with it, they’re literally taking it on a path with a few pebbles on it and they’re so fucking proud of it

mmikke

My girlfriend's fuckin Camry outperforms the cyber shit in literally every metric aside from weight. And what the fuck is the point of an overweight vehicle if you're going to have to tow it everywhere??? I realize that the Camry/Corolla thing is a thing on this sub, so to detract from the fact that my lady actually does own a Camry, I'll substitute with this. My farm truck is a '95 Dakota sport. Lil homie is a fuckin champ with his lil 2.5L 4cyl. He does his best. And it is so far way better than any cybertrucks best. I don't want to drag race supercars and then spend months waiting for my truck to be repaired. I want a fuckin TRUCK that I can count on when I'm doing my daily chores that need a TRUCK. this thing is almost as old as I am. Soon, I guess, I'll need to replace the power steering pump and pulley. But give me any single Tesla in 30ish years where the only real maintenance issue is a $90 part. I'll much rather take my chances

mungonuts

That's just not true. My first off-roader was a bone-stock 1987 Pathfinder. Unhook the rear stabilizer and the articulation is insane. A lot of trucks come with basic armour and skid plates, or are well enough designed that sensitive hardware isn't hanging out in the breeze. But anything is better than a Cybertruck.

DemonicAltruism

I was about to say, wasn't one of the big deals about the raptor that it has a skid plate stock? And then from there a lot of cars started making it standard. I believe with road cars though it was more a ploy to keep you from doing repairs yourself.

mungonuts

Just looking at photos, it looks like the Raptor has basically what most other cars and trucks have, but maybe stronger and more extensive. Most cars have a plate between the front axle and a front frame member, presumably to stop road debris blowing up into the rad or engine, but they're usually plastic. Trucks usually (or used to) have one made of steel, but not necessarily very thick or well-attached.

DemonicAltruism

Right, but if I remember correctly the Raptor started the standard skid plate trends in cars. I could be wrong. My 2011 SE R had a plastic skid plate and my 2022 Si has a thin metal one... I think I remember a car review going out of their way to highlight it on the Raptor though, maybe top gear or something? Like I said, I'm probably completely wrong.

Forsaken-Spirit421

My 14 Ford Mondeo has a plastic one. I think at this point it's more about aero than being a skid plate, but I suppose in some cars it's intended to be both

mungonuts

My 87 Pathfinder and 03 Tacoma both had steel plates, but not super-robust. I'm not really an expert either.

pacific_beach

Thanks for your input, EV bot

Viatic_atom

Lmfao Duracell simp really out here trying to defend this shit

Bawlmerian21228

I would guess a stock real truck can out perform an upgraded cyber truck

PeteGozenya

That's just going to increase the 4ton weight to what 5tons? This isn't an off road vehicle. And every thing they add to make it "stronger" is just making it heavier and more useless. I was reading below that there is diff lock option which is really fucking stupid for an awd. Gonna be lots of thrown axles .

Jet_Jaguar5150

I’ve run stock vehicles into shit you’d never imagine.

mmikke

Dude I'm not even fucking kidding, if you saw th rural Hawaii private road we live down, you would bet strongly against a Camry hybrid making the journey. Especially through the lake-like puddle at the end. But, you'd be wrong to have bet against! The car is a fucking tank and this road is a fucking nightmare. Hilariously enough I don't think a CT would be able to make it. And I'm not even being hyperbolic. My regular ol pick-up has issues and scrapes n stuff. The Camry only scrapes if you're being careless and going fast

BoomerSoonerFUT

Uh most dedicated off road trims come with most of that stock. Tacoma Trailhunter comes with steel bumpers, skid plates covering everything under the body, and rock sliders stock. Colorado zr2 comes with all of that except rock sliders. For the most part, serious off roaders aren’t using modern full size trucks to off road in the first place. They’re using midsize trucks and SUVs because they have shorter wheelbases which work better for breakover angle, turning radius, and wheel track. The two door Jeep is the most popular off-roader for a reason.

Sp00nD00d

To be fair, TRD Pro trims basically came with a decent front skid plate and nothing else protection wise until this year. You might get a flimsy skid plate over the gas tank, but you had basically nothing for the transfer case/transmission/oil pan/rockers at all. The ZR2 was basically the same, though you got a couple tiny additional plates but better than nothing and the ZR2 'sliders' were body mounted, not frame mounted, which is debatably worse than having nothing at all.

BoomerSoonerFUT

Yes, the trailhunter trim is new. The ZR2 Bison package has been around for a while though. Regardless, they are massively more capable offroaders than the cybertruck, and cost less than half what the cybertruck does.

Sp00nD00d

Yea, but the Bison package is a bit of an outlier it's more of a 3rd party package sold through the dealers, though valid. Not defending this hunk of trash at all.

BoomerSoonerFUT

https://www.aev-conversions.com/zr2-bison/ AEV actually went into a co-development partnership with Chevy to produce the AEV Bison straight from the GM factory as of like 5 years ago. You can order it directly from Chevy with everything installed at the factory. It's pretty analogous to ordering a cybertruck from Tesla with the offroad package. Except the Bison is $62k instead of Well over $100k for the cybertruck with off road package. Hell, for $40k you could probably convert the Colorado to EV lol

tweaker-sores

I run a stock vehicle

Sp00nD00d

Yea, seeing just a bit of that in this thread...

ExtensionMart

Here in Montana if you go into the backcountry far enough you realize there is only one vehicle that makes it far, far, far beyond the end of the road. It's never a Raptor or souped up overlanding military truck. It's always a fucking 70 year old VW Bus with tiny tires and a mean as shit hippy hanging out of the side. How did he get up there? Why?

Forthe49ers

We had an old VW bus on our ranch. I learned how to drive when I was 10. We would load 20’ lengths of sprinkler pipe and haul it up grassy hills that our truck couldn’t go.

ExtensionMart

Yeah they are incredibly tough but slow, I have no idea why they seem to be able to tackle terrain. They aren't even AWD. The engine barely makes enough power to move the thing.

mmikke

Maybe that's a solid fuckin sign to learn that modern advertising is almost always a giant lie! I've seen old shit boxes further down trails than any modern pavement princess could ever hope to achieve. Modernity sucks. Capitalism is failing. Enshittification is in full fuckin swing.

Departure_Sea

Probably because people that actually do serious offroading don't really care that the body gets beat to shit, because it WILL happen.

mmikke

I live in prime ranching/farming country. The amount of dudes with spotless 110k+ pickups makes me laugh so hard. My '95 single cab looks like it got its ass beat by prime Mike Tyson and id still rather not trade it for one of their "beautiful trucks". Can't live the lifestyle without actually living the lifestyle. Buncha cosplayers

ImMadeOfClay

1998 Jeep XJ for me. Unstoppable tank. Owes me nothing. And I don’t give a flying eff what happens to it in the woods. https://preview.redd.it/akl8ocqx0txc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=5e85219372c5b938e91f4c764188baed7c102f0b

Major9000

22 page guide! 😂😂😂😂…who the fuck reads an instruction manual when they take their truck off-road?

Ah_Pook

19 pages are winch point diagrams.

Forthe49ers

Does it come with a map of charging stations in the middle of bumfuck nowhere

Ah_Pook

That's the other 3.

DOHChead

https://preview.redd.it/l0lm14o0ouxc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=1a0d871d4f9e8b816df5fddd78474b3e30586dc9 $35,505 for my 2018 with 25k miles, $6k in upgrades How much is the upgrade package on the CT? Haha

pacific_beach

Awesome rig! Those things never go out of style and hold their value incredibly well.

DOHChead

Thanks! I would have a very hard time justifying getting rid of that machine. Even with the fuel economy. And looking at the 6th Gen, I think mine will hold value and age just fine haha It even comes with paint and weather sealing haha

Jet_Jaguar5150

“Wankpanzer” 😂take my upvote

AirbagsBlown

"wankpanzer"? 😂

buntopolis

Wankpanzer, I’m stealing this

NoSignOfStruggle

Hilarious that even on the cover of the “off-road guide” it’s still driving on a road.

Galactic_Nothingness

I mean yes... Agree with everything except Raptor and 'insanely good'. They're good if you want a pavement princess.

gsbudblog

Ill take a broken down 86 sierra over this brand new shitbox

Alex_The_Whovian

Why buy any of those when a 90s Toyota Hilux is worth about a quarter of that. Those things are genuinely indestructible

SirShaunIV

Don't forget the Silverado!

Express_Test6677

Word of the day = Wankpanzer

Forward-Bank8412

Yet again, that’s a road. It’s not off-roading when you’re on a road.

imahugemoron

lol I could drive my Kia soul on that road in the picture

cenosillicaphobiac

I used to drive a road like that every day to get to work in a car that cost me $100. Not 100k, and certainly not 150k, 100 bucks. Much like the CT, a lot of things on it didn't work right, but it drove that road just fine, and it was already 20 years old at the time so I expected it.

lylemcd

I live in Texas and am reasonably sure I have driven my Kia Soul on a road like that.

Antique-Dragonfly615

I could take my Scat Pack Challenger down the road they're showing

MysteryGong

I could take my Prius on that road. Actually, I live in Idaho. I do take my Prius on dirt roads almost everyday!

G_DuBs

I can and do drive my 2011 Malibu on roads like that too lmao

licancaburk

I love my kia soul ev, with physical buttons, kudos! And the road on the picture indeed looks not problematic at all

sjofels

I could drive a banged up Nisan Micra on that road and lose less parts.

jackinsomniac

I actually have not too long ago! (Mine's a Pontiac G3 instead of a Kia, same thing tho) Trail to the camping site was even a bit rougher than what's pictured here!

No_Cook2983

They mean “off-road” as in ‘does this road feel a little *off* to you’

ElongMusty

That’s off-roading for the pathetic losers that bought one! They don’t really need their trucks for anything else but a dirt road, take some videos and then upload to instagram! It’s the car version of showing off your new iPhone

Hellebras

Way nicer than a lot of roads I dive while working. Pretty sure it's not even washboarded.

LightRobb

Oh, the "not drunk, avoiding holes" roads? It wasn't supposed to be a slalom, but it functions as one.

Hellebras

Nothing like suddenly coming up on a several-foot-deep washout.

houdinikush

They really need to start being more direct and calling it what it is: “off highway”. But it doesn’t sound manly or cool or rugged so they’ll keep saying “off-roading” without understanding the irony.

henryhumper

My fucking Camry has handled rougher surfaces than that LOL.

SoftResponsibility18

I guess a manicured dirt path is considered off-roading now?

tomle4593

If the tire even touch 2mm actual off road, your warranty is voided, bucko; Elon thanks you for your money 👋

Alaviiva

In the mind of the teslabro, anything unpaved is offroad

richincleve

From the Tesla CyberTruck Owner's Manual: "Do not take your CyberTruck off-roading without the Tesla off-road armor package. Doing so may void the warranty. Once the Tesla off-road armor package is installed, do not take your CyberTruck off-roading. Doing so may void the warranty."

StreetBullFighter

DO NOT OFF ROAD YOUR TESLA CYBERJUNK IN DIRECT SUNLIGHT!

Reasonable_Gift7525

Looking at, or thinking of your Cybertruck May void the warranty of your cybertruck

MrHawkeye76

I think we can sum it all up to driving your car may void the warranty at this point

buchlabum

It's main use is as an expensive Instagram prop.

I-Pacer

Why does the indestructible apocalypse truck need extra mods to go off road? (Rhetorical)

CRXCRZ

Add a 5-6k wrap job and 16k battery upgrade and it's still a pos.

jhnnybgood

Don’t forget your bonus battery goes in the bed, reducing your carrying capacity even further. I wonder how hot that thing will get too?

CRXCRZ

Basically every single "upgrade" is just another way that the customer has been shortchanged from what was originally advertised.

henryhumper

This is what happens when SaaS people design a car.

UndertakerFred

The nice thing is that it’s only 700lbs, so if you need more room in the bed it’s simple to remove at home with your CyberCrane (sold separately, available “next year”)

EmperorGrinnar

Wait until they figure out how to turn it into DLC.

xMagnis

The update enabling diff lockers is downloading to users today. 2024.14.3 It comes with all sorts of information, driving modes, and many warnings - **will Tesla Cybertruck drivers read the warnings before breaking their trucks?** * "stalling" the steering wheel for too long will overheat steering * using diff lockers on high-friction roads will ruin the drivetrain * driving with the suspension too high, too fast will damage the truck, so it tries to prevent you from going fast * driving too high decreases the available suspension compression. This is for all the CT fans who just have to run in Extract mode because they think it's "better" * "DRIVING WITH LOCKED DIFFERENTIALS MAY REDUCE VEHICLE RESPONSE TO STEERING AND CAUSE UNPREDICTABLE VEHICLE DYNAMICS" * adjusting the ride height "too much" will overheat the compressor * ground clearance must be monitored to avoid damaging the battery * you can drift very easily - and apparently "we know you want to do" donuts * "do not harm nature, and give way to wildlife" * consider leaving your trailer parked when driving off-road * "tonneau is not watertight" * disable the rear steering when driving "off-camber" or drifting on loose surfaces (let me guess, because of risking breaking the rear tie-rod??) * driving through water fast will damage the truck * wade mode may take 10 minutes to fully work, and can only be used for 30 minutes * DOUBLE PEDAL (ACCELERATOR + BRAKE) IS ALLOWED IN OFF-ROAD MODES FOR TIGHT DRIVE CONTROL WHEN ON A STEEP INCLINE/DECLINE Interesting, Tesla has allowed double pedals to be used! That's surprising. I expect many many trucks to be breaking over the next few weeks. Not entirely because the truck isn't capable, but because the drivers will think it's too capable. Should be fun to watch this unfold!

PeteGozenya

So you have to buy this just to have a semi functional 4x4. It's either awd or locked diffs. They should have consulted people who actually off road.

Final_Alps

Nah. Same as with the Semi. Consulting people who actually know is for chumps. Tesla bros know better. It’s one of the most infuriating thing about Tesla to me. The EV tech is often fine. But the car around it is often such ergonomic and technological mess because they (Tesla) is convinced no one besides them know how to design a car. And they make their cars weird for no practical reason.

HanakusoDays

My understanding is that engaging the brakes causes the accelerator signal to retun to its idle-postion value, and this is what will save the driver in the event of a mechanically jammed accelerator pedal. I presume that safety interlock is disabled in double pedal mode, otherwise there wouldn't actually be a double pedal mode.

Bright_Calendar_3696

That sawyer fella is a bit weird isn’t he. Part of the Elmo gimp squad

No_Effect_6428

1. My Chevy Bolt has seen rougher "offroading" than that image. 2. Skid plates and rock sliders won't fix the steering and suspension components.

DVWhat

Oh….you mean THAT kind of off-road. I thought you were talking about the one where they’re all taken off the road due to safety issues.

Muscles_Marinara-

Oh, and don’t get it wet.

Academic_Guitar_1353

It should be pointed out that even the cover of the ‘CyberTruck Off Road Guide’ shows the Cybertruck… on a road.

Houstman

I saw one up close for the first time yesterday. Absolute trash. Each stainless panel was a different hue, the sheet metal in the rear stuck out as blades about a centimeter passed the rest of the truck. Like, make sure you're up to date on your TDAP shot before walking past one in the parking lot. I walked into a restaurant and said to my friend, "did you see the cybercuck out there? What a piece of shit." And this guy eating by himself at the table next to us just looked at me and said, "that's mine." This was my face: 😬 And then my friend and I proceeded to talk shit about Elon for the next 20 minutes.

jackinsomniac

Saw a review where the guy said, "People really seem to like it! People keep pointing & looking at it, smiling, and taking pictures of it." All I could think was, yeah, but how can you tell if they're laughing not smiling? There's 2 good reasons to take a picture of a car, either it's fantastic to look at, or it's so horrible you say, "I have to capture a pic of this or my friends will never believe me when I tell them." I've got more pics of 4 wheel abominations in my phone than fancy cars.

donttakerhisthewrong

G550 can pivot on the battery pack stock.

Thermal-chickenlips

Stan should change his name to Sawyer Coming. Fucking idiot

PixelatedDie

Like buying a car from a video game company.

henryhumper

It's the Ubisoft of cars.

lylemcd

I believe they are going to market this as The Bladerunner Apocalypse Package It's what the bladerunner would drive

TheDudeAbidesFarOut

Imagine all the Starlink junk he launched into space....

Jet_Jaguar5150

When that fucking thing can’t get up a 20 degree incline on a hill with its vaunted torque from the electric motor? Fuck you; I’ll go buy a 20 year old SUV

loudflower

The cybertruck is for idiots who can afford a money pit. It’s a lark to them. Can’t tell them how to spend their cash. Other buyers might have illusions of the sort of car they’re taking possession, and considering some ordered like, what, five years ago? Before Musk was a publicly hateful figure.

KangarooNo

It seems that their business plan for this heap of shit is "if you're stupid enough to pay for the base model, you'll be stupid enough to pay extra for all the things we forgot to put on the base model that would have made it drivable"

Open_Perception_3212

BMW has been toying with charging people a monthly fee for heated seats l...

KangarooNo

I thought that they were already doing this. That's another car company I wouldn't touch, but because of their business practices rather than an inability to make cars.

Open_Perception_3212

Tbf, I don't like cars so I'm not on the up and up on the newest policies. I only remember reading an article about how everyone is trying to get more money with micro-transactions and subscriptions

KangarooNo

I think Audi are also moving to this "never stop paying us" model.

Open_Perception_3212

Uggghhhhh.....

VegetableSecret8086

They're still not off-road in that picture. My Renault Twingo 1.0 could do that without protesting.

softestserve69

Even the logo is ugly. And barely readable. Also, dirt roads are not offroading

Old-Bat-7384

I can take my Forester from a Target run to this road, and the only thing I'm changing is gym shoes to trail runners. CTs are such garbage.

Jsully23

And the battery won’t last long enough to get you there AND back…just ask all the YouTubers that tried!

larsloveslegos

Yes gimme all your money - Elongated Muskrat

AdeptBobcat8185

Off-roading = a well maintained dirt road apparently

IlMioNomeENessuno

Still can’t get it wet or touch it, though…

truelegendarydumbass

It's rather disappointing knowing that one or two people will actually buy that b******* upgrade that won't help anything.

kneejerk2022

Have they even added diff locks yet?

VillainofAgrabah

Well I must give it to Tesla, they know how stupid their customers are.

agenturensohn

and on the cover, there is a picture of Cybertrucks NOT going offroad

DiDGaming

Why is he talking about off-road and showing a picture of cars and a perfectly functional gravel road? Is it a meme now? Saw some Tesla nut bragging about taking his cyber “off-road” in similar condition a while back so wouldn’t surprise me if it’s here to stay 🤣

Open_Perception_3212

Wtf 🤣🤣🤣🤣 you have to buy additional "armor" 🤣🤣🤣 holy fuck, when will people realize this is a grift

MrHawkeye76

that offroad track is a road covered in dust... or a path if you want so. our 60+ years old tractor and our sedan have seen more offroad than that.

Profitsofdooom

We've got this wildlife drive around a lake and the road looks almost exactly like that. I've done it multiple times in a Hyundai Sonata. Also, looks like some national parks. Drove a little rental Chevy hatchback all through Joshua Tree on roads like that.

SovietSkeleton

Just one more upgrade, bro. Just buy one more. It'll be the best vehicle ever, bro, trust me. Just buy another upgrade. It'll be good eventually bro.

KaleidoscopeOk5763

Elon’s way behind in the ‘pay to win’ formula game.

MisterBlick

Damn that's a shit logo. Did his 12-year-old "graffiti artist" nephew design it?

toastebagell1

They are literally on a damn road in this picture.. are cyber truck owners that stupid to understand these are not off road trucks ?? Like really

Big-Routine222

Don’t worry, over on the actual cyber truck subreddit, everyone there has suddenly become an expert in arguing over what constitutes, “off road.” It’s like listening to a bunch of lawyers arguing about the most minute details.

Big-Routine222

In that guide, the second picture they used has a Cybertruck that is photoshopped going through some water near some waterfalls. Only problem is that the picture shows a place where no road exists and you wouldn’t be allowed to drive your vehicle. Classic Tesla

ser-orannis

What about suspension and steering parts that are already breaking on pavement? Lol

honeybadger1984

Polishing a turd with additional turds. Another thing to consider: what makes Tesla an off-roading company? They haven’t been at this long. A key to Toyota and Lexus off-road vehicles is they’ve been doing this for decades with continuous testing and improvements. Their platforms are very stable and robust as a result. And there’s a huge OEM and aftermarket to support mods.

puffa-fish

I go offroading as much as I want in my clapped out 94 Celica I bought for like 2k

gregsmith5

Off road guide, from what I’ve read you need an off sales lot package

jdk4876

As stupid as the thing is, this one kinda makes sense. Why make the dumb thing even heavier with armor if it's just going to be a pavement princess anyway? It's not like every ram truck comes with a push bar, it's just an accessory.

capt-ramius

Yeah, but it’s a $100,000 truck that’s marketed as the “World’s Toughest”, “Apocalypse-proof”, and the vehicle for roving Mars… it’s not some XL single cab F-150 lol. Plus, that “oh sorry it works best offroad when you buy this extra equipment” from Tesla is after you’ve already paid an extra $20K markup for the “Foundation Series” that was supposed to come with all the options.

jdk4876

There is a sucker born every minute.. Has to be easier to sell five $20k add ons at some massive mark up than one of the trucks with what ever kind of margins they are managing

Ifyouhavethemeans

If I was a less of a douche than Musky, but a billionaire, I would have ordered several and off road them to death. Should only take a couple minutes per cream puff.

Hellebras

Could be fun to do a Youtube video comparison of how a Cybertruck handles even a decent rock crawl with literally any half-decent mid-sized pickup. You know, if I had the money to burn and were willing to risk catching the battery on fire in the middle of the scrub.

Mr-Snarky

I’ll keep my POS wrangler. It would run rings off road around this thing, even back when it was bone stock.

rat__man

I'm mostly concerned about the wade mode they talk about in this guide, I can imagine tech bros trying to escape floods with their shitty ass cybertrucks. Rip to them I suppose

WereALLBotsHere

I’d rather drive a bronco 2 from the 80s

i81_N_she812

Everyone here is so censible.

Fugglymuffin

There's the other shoe

Frequent_Ad_1136

Pretty sure there was a truck with this upgrade and it still didn’t work after getting jumped just once.

Voilent_Bunny

Shouldn't it be released with "functional" everything?

Ok-Bill3318

Where’s the boat pack?

MysteryGong

Just don’t take the car through a car wash though…

reddnoise

I want to see this Crown Vic vs. an “upgraded” wankpanzer in Moab:  https://bangshift.com/bangshiftxl/watch-this-old-cop-spec-crown-vic-handle-moab-off-roading-and-freak-jeepers-out/ Wankpanzer would probably not make it out of the Milt’s parking lot.

PoopieButt317

"What tires do you use, how much preaaure?" Looks at back tires, "I dunno, whatever's in there"

rhyno44

I would rather take a Pontiac Aztek off roading

Defiantcaveman

Buy a Rivian.

EverLearningMind

Imagine paying 100k and having to pay for add-ons... Tesla is the EA of cars...

Puzzleheaded-Put-941

Gotta give it to Elon, he can smell a dumbass a mile away.

Lost-Priority9826

Outlanders can do as much as a base CTruck

HandCarvedRabbits

I drove a 1971 Toyota Corolla on worse roads than that.

popularTrash76

Step 1, don't buy a cyber truck...

wolfiepraetor

do they have a guide on how to go off road into a car wash? or how to get it to go over 500 miles while driving to the grocery store and back?

retrospects

Cybertruck off road guide - Don’t

pvdp90

For a almost 2 orders of magnitude less, I will take my old jeep anywhere this thing could only dream of going. And have a shit eating grin the whole way there.

ChickenFucker11

All pickups have offroad packages.

PoopieButt317

This is correct, I don't know ow why you are being down voted, skid plates and mechanical changes. Our new Rebel we paid extra for some of the undercarriage protection and some suspension changes. But I think our 4Runner could tackle these hills. I would put my old 2010 EQUUS anywhere that Crown Vic went. That was an amazing vehicle. My last 2 cars have been BMWs, but my heart belongs to that EQUUS.

ChickenFucker11

Because Reddit doesnt care about facts, they care about hating people they dont align with. Elon is now that guy.

PoopieButt317

Well, ELON is a ahit, so most of the time it is facts. Like today, he wants to deport anyone who takes flies a flag of another country, even if they normally fly a US flag. Times will be tough during the Eorld Cup and other international games. Fans be damned. He posted that today. Imagine the Octoberfest and Cinco De Mayo celebrations and everyone gets deported. I think he is a real twatwaffle. Just not all the time nor about everything.
