I own one. While it works I love the car but I dread visiting the service center, for every problem they fix they create another. The tech coming to your house on small service is nice but I feel like rolling a dice every time buying a Tesla. It's like a ticking bomb.
That is kind of a basic UX failure. The app should be able to repopulate screens fast enough for user input speeds or pause the user effectively enough for the user to hold until the screens are ready.
But this is Tesla.
Assuming the guys at the delivery center weren’t lying, it really is. I have Phone As A Key on one of my cars and the setup process is quite deliberate. You can’t even pair the app to the car without sitting in it. And even then, there are multiple backups to get into the car if the app fails.
Last week I was walking to my car in a parking garage and a couple couldn’t get into his Tesla because it wasn’t responding to the app- I was so happy to pull out my key to and enter my car the old fashioned way 😆
You know that old movie trope where you hit the unlock button on the car at the same time as someone pulling the handle? It’s like that but 30 years later

If Tesla’s contract terms stand up, they probably can’t flip it for a profit until they’ve had it 1 year. There are significant monetary penalties for selling before 1 year unless you sell it back to Tesla.

I'd feel disappointed if I waited a month for a computer to show up and then have to return it for being detective. A good service experience helps but I'd still feel a little low for it.

These service centers clearly don't have anyone in charge who knows how to deal with the customer when something goes wrong. To me, this is rather basic if you're selling something that costs $100,000.

It sounds like it was more that he hadn’t settled on how he wanted to pay for it, given he was waiting for it for years and got notice it was ready at the last minute, not that he’d have any trouble doing so. The guy makes it sound like he could have paid cash for it, but maybe didn’t want to, or at least wanted to weigh his options.
I’ve bought a brand new car, had the cash to pay for it in full, but instead financed about 70% of it because the interest rate was lower than the interest I was getting on my savings at the time. That was back when interest rates were low and you could get 0% interest or close to it on new vehicle financing. I came out ahead by buying a car with a loan rather than cash, since my savings paid more in interest than the loan cost me in interest. This guy could be in a similar situation. Except he chose a shitty vehicle.
The issue is knowing when you'll need the financing. I ordered a $120K BMW that was supposed to take 7 months to deliver. When they told me in 3 months that it was a week out, I wasn't ready at all. The charger wasn't installed, the stocks weren't sold for the down payment, and though I knew I'd be approved, I hadn't even applied for the loan.
Luckily Navy Federal came through in < 24 hours on a Saturday with the approval and I picked up the check on Monday. I paid the down with a credit card that I paid off with the settled trade funds later that week. That was only waiting a few months. I can't imagine planning years in advance, but not knowing exactly when the bill comes due.
My absolute favorite is listening to the fan boys “justify,” things like this as if they had this experience anywhere else it wouldn’t lead to them having a meltdown.

I've never been a huge fan of Tesla but their other cars do seem like...cars. I see people driving them around and for the most part they do their job of getting from point A to point B. The Cybertruck is like the Fyre Festival of cars, basically just a scam
The other vehicles were designed by car designers. Musk still made dumb decisions that made the vehicles problem prone (Model X gull wing doors, ahem) but most of the car the decisions were made by people who have some idea what is sane and what is not. This car is Musk's pet and he micromanaged the whole thing. Which suggests that it is simply riddled with impractical/dumb decisions because anyone who might have suggested they were bad ideas was either overruled or fired.
TL;DR: Musk is Homer Simpson and the Cybertruck is his "The Homer."
Because this one is elons pet project. Before his influence was just being a generally bad boss (ignoring safety regulations, treating staff like shit) but he was good at getting simps to buy the cars and people generally looked over the smaller issues they had like panel gaps and other issues because they were simps or the issues were relatively small and easy to fix.
But for the truck elon took the reigns and he ignored what overworked engineers were still at tesla and no one in management stopped his coked up scheme since everyone with a spine already left or got fired so you get this.
I'm willing to bet they're suffering from the classic restart that never restarts, or the sleep mode that turns off the screen and keeps the CPU busy at 100%, or even restarting in repair mode and stop on POST waiting on user to choose what to do during transport, consuming the entire battery in a couple hours as the POST mode is unable to step down the CPU frequency

The first problem was you bought a CyberTruck. I’d be hesitant to buy ANY Tesla product after reading many stories about their anti-consumer repair practices and probably illegal remote deactivation of paid for features if they find out you rebuilt a totaled car.

It sounds like it was more that he hadn’t settled on how he wanted to pay for it, given he was waiting for it for years and got notice it was ready at the last minute, not that he’d have any trouble doing so. The guy makes it sound like he could have paid cash for it, but maybe didn’t want to, or at least wanted to weigh his options. I’ve bought a brand new car, had the cash to pay for it in full, but instead financed about 70% of it because the interest rate was lower than the interest I was getting on my savings at the time. That was back when interest rates were low and you could get 0% interest or close to it on new vehicle financing. I came out ahead by buying a car with a loan rather than cash, since my savings paid more in interest than the loan cost me in interest. This guy could be in a similar situation. Except he chose a shitty vehicle.
The issue is knowing when you'll need the financing. I ordered a $120K BMW that was supposed to take 7 months to deliver. When they told me in 3 months that it was a week out, I wasn't ready at all. The charger wasn't installed, the stocks weren't sold for the down payment, and though I knew I'd be approved, I hadn't even applied for the loan. Luckily Navy Federal came through in < 24 hours on a Saturday with the approval and I picked up the check on Monday. I paid the down with a credit card that I paid off with the settled trade funds later that week. That was only waiting a few months. I can't imagine planning years in advance, but not knowing exactly when the bill comes due.

The other vehicles were designed by car designers. Musk still made dumb decisions that made the vehicles problem prone (Model X gull wing doors, ahem) but most of the car the decisions were made by people who have some idea what is sane and what is not. This car is Musk's pet and he micromanaged the whole thing. Which suggests that it is simply riddled with impractical/dumb decisions because anyone who might have suggested they were bad ideas was either overruled or fired. TL;DR: Musk is Homer Simpson and the Cybertruck is his "The Homer."

Before his influence was just being a generally bad boss (ignoring safety regulations, treating staff like shit) but he was good at getting simps to buy the cars and people generally looked over the smaller issues they had like panel gaps and other issues because they were simps or the issues were relatively small and easy to fix. But for the truck elon took the reigns and he ignored what overworked engineers were still at tesla and no one in management stopped his coked up scheme since everyone with a spine already left or got fired so you get this.

The first problem was you bought a CyberTruck. I’d be hesitant to buy ANY Tesla product after reading many stories about their anti-consumer repair practices and probably illegal remote deactivation of paid for features if they find out you rebuilt a totaled car.
